Mary Gouthro
81, Reserve Mines
Mary Gouthro, a longtime resident of 134 Main St., Reserve Mines, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Breton Bay Nursing Home in Sydney.
She was born in Reserve Mines and was the daughter of the late Henry and Annie (Pembroke) Chiasson.
She was a longtime valued member of St. Joseph’s Parish and was recognized by the Catholic Women’s League for her many years of outstanding service.
She is survived by one son, Wendell, Reserve; sister, Mildred Boudreau, Sydney; four grandchildren, Wendy, Joyce, Joanna and Jocelyn; three great-grandchildren, Kyla, Amanda and Somer.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel; son, Myron; brother, Dr. Russell Chiasson and sister, Edna Chiasson.
Visitation was held in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Loretta (Lollie) Chiasson
86, Reserve Mines
Loretta (Lollie) Chiasson, age 86, of 172 Main St., Reserve Mines, died Friday, April 13, 2001, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Loretta (Boutilier) MacLean.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital and was well known as part of the kitchen staff. She was a valued member of St. Joseph’s Parish and the community new her for her famous homemade bread.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Lollie is survived by her children, daughter, Shirley Murray (Joe), sons, Russell (Marcy), Bryan (Jane), all in Reserve; brother, Ed MacLean (Anne), Ontario; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph, a son, Simon, grandchildren, Bradley Murray and Fabian Chiasson, brothers, Hec, Simon, Gussy, sisters, Mary, Sue, Edith.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral mass will be in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Francis Cameron officiating.
No flowers by request. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Mary Boutilier
83, Reserve Mines
Mary Catherine Boutilier, 83, of 508 Neville St., Reserve Mines, and a longtime resident of 14 Holland St., Reserve, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, South Street, Glace Bay.
Born at Reserve Mines, she was a daughter of the late Angus P. and Mary Catherine (Gallant) MacNeil.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Reserve Mines.
She is survived by daughters, Mary (Joseph) MacNeil, Dominion, Catherine ‘Girlie’ (John) Hart, Reserve Mines, Marie (Colin) MacDonald, Reserve Mines, and Annie (James) Doucette, Reserve Mines; sons, John Francis ‘Nonnie’ (Loretta) Boutilier, Gardiner Mines, and Bernard (Cathy) MacDonald, Reserve Mines; sisters, Nisha Mullins, Reserve Mines, Bernadette MacGillivary, Glace Bay, and Josie Butts, Glace Bay; brothers, Reggie, Reserve Mines, William, Reserve Mines and Freddie, Glace Bay; 28 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Baptiste, in 1973; a son, Daniel; a grandson, Terry Hart; granddaughter, Roseanne; brothers, John Angus, Roni, Danny; sisters, Annie Florence and Carmella Young.
Visitation for the late Mary Catherine Boutilier will be today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. Rev. Francis Cameron officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Eugene ‘Gene’ MacDonald

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Eugene ‘Gene’ MacDonald, 33 of Sunnyside Street, Reserve Mines, Sunday, August 17, 2003, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Gordon and the late Gervase MacDonald. Gene was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Gene loved to drive tractor-trailers and all heavy equipment. He also enjoyed ski-doos, ATVs (anything associated with road sports). At the time of his death, Gene was employed with Capstick Towing. He will be sadly missed by his live-in companion and best friend, Cathie King; children, Timothy, Denise, Mason, Courtney and Kirsten; sister, Denise (Phil), Texas; brothers, Gordy (Lisa), Glace Bay, Todd (Amanda), Glace Bay; paternal grandfather, Francis MacDonald, Glace Bay. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews, who will greatly miss his love and kindness. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Henry and Pearl Poirier and paternal grandmother, Catherine MacDonald. Visitation for Mr. MacDonald will be held Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Fr. Jim Oliver will be officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Gene’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.

Thomas Patrick Ellsworth
81, Reserve Mines
Thomas Patrick Ellsworth, 81, of Reserve Mines, passed away Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at home.
Born in Skinners Pond, P.E.I., he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Knox) Ellsworth.
Pat served with the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and was stationed at the Sydney Airport. It was here he met his wife the late Lillian (AuCoin) Ellsworth who preceded him in 1974. He was a resident of Reserve Mines for over 50 years. Pat was an honourary life-member of the Glace Bay Council Knights of Columbus and a member of the William B. MacLeod Fourth Degree Council. He retired from the Electrical Department of the Sydney Steel Plant.
He is survived by his children, Harvey (Anne) Ellsworth, Glace Bay, Sylvia (Terry) Churney, Lower Sackville, N.S., Cheryl (Angus) MacIntosh, St. John’s, Nfld., Wallace (Karen) Ellsworth, Leamington, Ont.; his grandchildren, Harvey (Kelly) Ellsworth Jr., John (Kim) Ellsworth, Darren (Dawn) Ellsworth, all of Glace Bay, Brendon Ellsworth, Summerside, P.E.I., Patrick Churney, Halifax, Sheryl (Pete) Churney, Lower Sackville, April MacIntosh, Ottawa, Sara and Courtney MacIntosh, St. John’s, Nfld., Cameron and Patricia Ellsworth, Leamington, Ont. He is also survived by his precious great-grandchildren, Jessica Churney, Lower Sackville, Marissa and Kyle Ellsworth, Glace Bay. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Pius (Shirley), Wilbert (Rita), Albert (Chris), P.E.I., Colletta Kennedy and Winifred Gould, both of P.E.I., Florence Belliveau, Rita Connick, Amherst, N.S., Vene Luttrell, Lavac, Ont.; and his sister-in-law, Edna Ellsworth, P.E.I.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (AuCoin) Ellsworth; his brothers, Preston, Joseph; and sister Mary.
Patrick will be resting at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Visitation will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Glace Bay Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for prayer service. Funeral will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, Rev. Francis Cameron officiating.
