Dan Graham Crosby
83, Dominion
Dan Graham Crosby, 83, of 399 Kings Rd., Dominion, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Dominion, he was a son of the late Andrew and Bridget (Graham) Crosby.
Graham was a lifetime resident of the Town of Dominion. He was employed with the former Dominion Coal Company and Devco for 46 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, served on the first Board of Directors of Modern Co-op; was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Immaculate Conception Mens’ Club. Graham was also a senior altar server at Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his wife Margaret “Peg” Crosby; daughters, Shirley (Jim) Fogarty, Dominion, Peggy (Roger) Day, Dartmouth, and Bridget “B” (Tim) Spence, Springhill, N.S.; sons, Andrew (Imelda), Waverley, N.S., Raymond, Gananoque, Ont., Paul (Carole), Bramalea, Ont., and Adam (Theresa), Dominion; brothers, John “Jockie” Crosby, Glace Bay and a sister, Annie Stephens, Dominion. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Bobby, and Adam, sisters, Katie, Margie and Eileen.
Visitation will be at Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or charity of choice.
Gerald Adrian Lockman
77, Dominion
Gerald Adrian Lockman, 77, of 295 Neville St., Dominion, passed away, Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Harrington and Dora (Corbet) Lockman.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. He served in the Second World War with the North Novies and was a POW for 18 months. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, dart player and bingo player. He was a member of Branch No. 78 Royal Canadian Legion, Dominion.
He will be sadly missed by daughters, Alvina (Barry) Tesslier, Ontario, Ann Marie (Dave) Wall, Bridgeport, Lorraine (Brian) McNamara, Reserve Mines, Rose (Glen) Knox, Bridgeport, Alice (Troy) Christoff, Glace Bay and Sharon Nearing, Bridgeport; sons, Gerry (Karen), Ontario, Francis (Mary) Reserve, Harry, Bridgeport, Barry (Stacey) Glace Bay and Tommy (Donelda), at home; daughter-in-law, Linda, Bridgeport; sisters, Bertha Prince, Ursela Alberts, Peggy Lockman, of Ontario; two aunts, Bernette Currie, Dominion and Mary Morton, Maine. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, the former Gertrude Doyle, son, John, brothers, Eric, John and sister, Lillian.
Visitation for the late Mr. Lockman will be held Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Gary McNeil
Dominion
Gary McNeil, 47, of 11 Gatto St., Dominion, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John Angus and Caroline (McAdam) McNeil.
He was a former member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines and a member of St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion. Gary was an auto body mechanic and metal fabricator.
He will be sadly missed by wife, the former Kendra Wadden; daughters, Linda, Glace Bay, and Ashley, at home; sons, Brian, Derrick (Terri), both of Dominion, and Shawn, Glace Bay; brothers, Freddie (Phyllis), Glace Bay, Alonzo (Julie), Gardiner Mines, Kenny (Cordella), Rickie (Tammy), Glace Bay, Craig (Bernice) Reserve Mines, Shannon, Glace Bay, Billy, Reserve Mines; sisters, Gail (Charlie), New Waterford, Brenda (Sonny), Reserve Mines; grandchildren, Christina, Steven, Matthew, Alyssa, Devon and Brianna. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and a special godchild, Carri Lynn.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Frances ‘Frankie’ Corbett, daughter, Lisa, sister, Linda.
Visitation for the late Mr. McNeil will be held Thursday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, Fr. Jim Oliver will be officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Arthur (Art) MacDonald
66, Dominion
Arthur (Art) MacDonald, 66, of 269 Mitchell Ave., Dominion, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Alexander and Blanche (MacPhee) MacDonald.
Art was a member of St. Eugene’s Parish in Dominion. He was very active in church affairs, serving on the parish council, lector and Eucharistic minister. He was a coal miner for 30 years retiring in 1988. He was a very loving father and grandfather. Art loved Dominion and was active in various functions as listed.
He was first elected to the Dominion Town Council in 1962 and was elected as Mayor in 1970. He retired in 1982 and was reelected as Mayor in 1991. Art was elected in 1995 to serve as the first councillor to represent District 5 under the newly formed Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Art served on the following committees and boards: Joint Expenditure Board for 15 years, sitting member of C.E.D.A., Dominion Pensioners Club, Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities having served on the Executive of that body for 2 years, served on the Nova Scotia School Boards for 15 years, member of the Canadian Federation of municipalities for 17 years, Chairman of the Dominion School Board for 12 years, District School Board Member for 2 years, Dominion Police Commission Chairman for 10 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Braemore Home for 15 years and served in the capacity of Chairman for 7 years, served on the Cape Breton Hospital Board for 10 years, Chairman of the Jail Commission for 8 years, Chairman of the Metro Planning Commission for 7 years, served on the Transit Commission for a number of years, served on the Seaview Manor Board of Directors for 11 years and was Chairman for 2 years, vice-president for 4 years of #26 Local Union of the UMWA, and Chairman of the Dominion Recreational Center for 2 years.
Art was also a sports enthusiast having been a former member of the Dominion Hawk’s Club, secretary/treasurer of the Cape Breton Baseball Association, director of minor baseball for Cape Breton one year, umpire of the Cape Breton Senior’s Baseball League for 2 years, manager of the Dominion Junior Hawk’s Ball Team for 2 years.
Art was also an honorary member of the Dominion Fire Department, Italian Community Club, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #78, and a recipient of the Town of Dominion Citizen of the year (1976).
He presently sits as a volunteer on the Board of Directors of Brass Tacks in Glace bay, as well as a volunteer member, representing Retired Senior Citizens on the Cape Breton County Economic Development Authority.
Art is survived by his wife the former Betty Higgins, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Sis) Higgins of Mitchell Avenue. Also surviving are two daughters, Paula (Mike) and Brenda (James), both of Dominion; six brothers, Earl and his wife Audrey, Glace Bay, Lewis and his wife Edna, Dominion, Donald and his wife Debbie, Toronto, Harvey, Boston, Joseph, Dominion, and Michael and the late Mary Catherine (MacPherson) MacDonald, Toronto; three sisters, Evelyn (Phonse Jessome), Glace Bay, Mary (Pius MacNeil), Dominion, and Claire (Chesley Way), Toronto; three special aunts, Florence Flynn, Mildred Gouthro, and Marion MacPhee, all of Dominion; four grandchildren, Arthur, Michelle, Elizabeth and Natasha. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Art was predeceased by a sister Florence MacDonald and three siblings in infancy.
Visitation will take place on today and Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. (849-4505). Funeral mass will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Cassidy Janet MacKay

Cassidy Janet MacKay, of 56 Elm St., Dominion, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Robert Lawrence Eisan and Cory Leigh MacKay.
Cassidy is survived by two brothers, Michael and Bailey, Dominion; she is also survived by paternal grandfather, Robert Andrew Eisan and his girlfriend Janice Petrie, Sydney; paternal grandmother, Nancy MacInnis, Halifax; maternal grandfather, Michael MacKay, Glace Bay; paternal great-grandparents, Robert Cyril and Mary Eisan, Sydney and maternal great-grandmother, Olga Gilmet; several aunts and uncles.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Janet Leigh Gilmet and maternal great-grandfather, Sam Gilmet.
Visitation will take place Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Cassidy Janet MacKay

Cassidy Janet MacKay, of 56 Elm St., Dominion, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Cassidy is also survived by paternal great-grandparents, Lawrence and Ann McInnis of Mira.
Mildred "Millie" Gouthro
82, Dominion
Mildred “Millie” Gouthro, 82, of 268 Neville St., Dominion, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Dominion, she was a daughter of the late Michael MacPhee and Sarah MacCormick. At the time of her death she was a resident of Taigh Na Mara and a life long member of Immaculate Conception parish.
Surviving members of Millie’s family are sisters, Marion MacPhee, Taigh Na Mara and Florence Flynn, Dominion.
Besides her parents, Millie was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Gouthro, brothers, Dan, Allen, Murdock, Arthur and Stanley, sisters, Blanche MacDonald and Margaret (Mamie) Boone.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Donations in Millie’s memory may be made to the Arthritis Society or to a charity of choice.
