Daniel Allan MacLean
Daniel Allan MacLean, 89, passed away, Thursday, 25 July 2002, at his residence, 400 Kings Rd, Sydney. Born in Florence, he was a son of the late Angus and Naomi (Stubbert) MacLean. Mr. MacLean served in the Second World War for five years with the Canadian Army and served three years in Europe. He was employed with the federal government in Ottawa until his retirement. He was a member of St. John's United Church, Port Morien, Thistle Lodge No. 36 and Rose Croix, Cape Breton Lodge of Perfection. Mr. MacLean is survived by his wife, Georgie Nicholson; sons, Brian (Beverly), Port Morien,, David (Diane), Winchester, Ont; daughter, Melba (Mark) Gellner, Poplar Hill, Ont; five grandchildren, Dale and Wendy, Ottawa, Victoria, Bridgewater, Jennifer (Charles) Major, Vancouver, and Scott, Halifax; two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Justin; sister, Christine MacLeod, Brantford, Ont. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Angus, Kenneth and George, sister, Annie, Mary Ellen and Lucy. Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel 2-4, 7-9 p.m.Saturday with funeral service in the chapel 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating. Interment in Black Brook Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held in Sydney Memorial Chaepl at 6:45 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Church.

Albert J. MOMBOURQUETTE
MOMBOURQUETTE, Albert J. - Passed away July 12, 2002, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in L'Ardoise, Albert was a son of the late Edward and Annie (Barrett) Mombourquette. He lived all his life in L'Ardoise and for many years was steady and devoted to the daily chores around Holy Guardian Angel Church. He was a trusted mail carrier for many priests who served in L'Ardoise Parish. He is survived by brother, Dan (Gertrude), Bedford; sisters, Theresa (Harry) Johnson, Halifax; Laura (Basil) Fogarty, British Columbia; many nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by brothers, Felix and Paul; sisters, Elizabeth Roy, Margaret MacAvoy, Agnes Campbell, Lillian Ellis, Annie Mae LeRue; sisters in infancy, Anita and Genevieve. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in L'Ardoise Funeral Home. Service to be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in Holy Guardian Angel Roman Catholic Church, L'Ardoise, Rev. Frank Morley officiating. Burial will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery, L'Ardoise. Reception to follow in the community centre. Donations may be made to the Cemetery Fund or Dr. W. Kingston Clinic. Arrangements entrusted to Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home.

Mary Jane O'CONNELL
O'CONNELL, Mary Jane - 87, River Bourgeois, passed away July 13, 2002, in Richmond Villa, St. Peter's. Born July 28, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Racheal (Sampson) Bourke. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are son, Donald (Margaret), Porters Lake; granddaughters, Patricia and Maureen O'Connell; great-grandsons, Eoin and Jamie. She was predeceased by her husband, Stewart. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Funeral 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, in St. John The Baptist Church, River Bourgeois. Burial in the parish cemetery. Reception to follow in Tera Lynn Community Hall. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral is under the direction of Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter's.

Gerard Alexander SAMPSON
SAMPSON, Gerard Alexander - 67, Halifax, died July 15, 2002, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Abraham and Julia (Perry) Sampson. He was the beloved father figure of Shelley, Tammy, Darlene and Bruce. He loved children, animals and Elvis. His time was spent making care packages for those he loved, going out of his way to be helpful. His unique personality and wonderful, eccentric sense of humour will light the days to come for those he left behind, who will miss him with all their hearts. Surviving are daughter, Sandra, Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co.; brothers, Lawrence, Charles, Clifford; sisters, Kay, Betty, Doreen, Jean, Rita, Lily, Bunny; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Edward, Clarence. His remains have been cremated. Memorial mass 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, in St. Mary's Basilica, Father John Williams officiating. Burial at a later date. Family flowers only, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Bide-a-While Shelter.

Stanley Garfield Parker
Stanley Garfield Parker, 94, a resident of Peppett Street, North Sydney, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in the Veterans Wing at the Harbourview Hospital in Sydney Mines, where he had been a patient for some time. Born in Arichat, N.S., he was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Parker. Stanley was employed as a serviceman with Atlantic Speedy Propane Ltd. and later with the Construction Industry until his retirement. He was a member of local No. 682 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Merchant Marine and was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the fomer Margaret (Campbell) Parker; two sons Norman (Jean) and Lloyd (Linda), both of North Sydney; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Russell. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to follow in Calvin United Church Cemetery in Upper Leitche's Creek. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.

Mary "Martha" POTTIE
POTTIE, Mary "Martha" - 80, Halifax, passed away very suddenly July 24, 2002, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in West L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Agnes (MacDonald) Pottie. Martha was a long-time employee of Canada Packers Ltd. and St. Mary's University until her retirement. Martha was an active parishioner at St. Joseph's Church. She is survived by sisters, Gertie Landry, Loretta Peters, Agnes Wainman, all of Halifax; Hattie (Harold) O'Rourke, Kentville; brothers, Angus, Edward (Evelyn), Gerard (Lorraine), Lawrence (Sharon), all of Halifax; Hector (Joan), Coldbrook. Visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Snow's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral mass 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church, Russell Street, Halifax, Rev. Albert Cosgrove officiating. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations to IWK Health Centre Foundation or a charity of choice.
