Bruce MacKay
1954-2009
Bruce Mackay, 56, of Nappan, passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center Friday, October 2, 2009.
Born in Nappan, he was a son of the late Gordon MacKay and Mary "Carrie" (MacDonald) MacKay, Nappan, NS.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter Jessica (Lawson Rains), Moncton; brothers Norman (Christine), Mississauga, ON, Bobby (Bonnie), Ontario, Billy (Becky), Amherst, Murray, Amherst, Ricky (Terri), Nappan; sisters Betty (Perley) Clark, Woodstock, Linda (Doug) Milner, Prince George BC, Mary (Larry) Brodie, Hamilton, ON. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother James.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 68 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 2 until the time of the service. Funeral service will take place at 3 pm. Burial will follow in the Fenwick Cemetery.
Alfred "Bib" Breau
1920-2009
AMHERST, NS - With great sadness, we announce the death of our father and husband, Alfred "Bib" Breau, age 89, of Amherst, which occurred at the Gables Lodge on Saturday, October 17, 2009.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Andre and Philomene (Mallet) Breau.
A veteran of WW II, he served in the RCAF in Canada. Throughout his early life he worked in various factories in Toronto, returning to Amherst to become Chief Steward at the Royal Canadian Legion, until his retirement at age 64. He was a life member of the Amherst Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed all sports and held trophies in Darts, Bowling and Cribbage. He was an avid Montreal Canadians fan. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish.
"Bib" will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Helen (Hayes (MacLeod)); daughters, Marilyn (Larry) (MacLeod) Brander, NY, Mary Ann (MacLeod) Megeney and Meredith MacLeod, both of Amherst and Philomene (Michael) Breau-O'Connor, Springhill; 4 grandchildren, Jason (Tara), Jeptha (Lisa), Jennifer (Dan) and Jesse (Laura); 3 great grandchildren, Kelly, twins, Megan and Nicole; a sister, Ann Stewart, Truro; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Jean Goring, Catherine Feeley, Helen Smith, infant Mary and Yvonne Merritt and brother James Breau.
"Bib's" remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst. No visitation by request. A private family mass will be celebrated at the Holy Family Parish Church, Amherst. In lieu of flowers donations to the Holy Family Parish, Amherst, St. John the Baptist Church, Springhill or a charity of the donor's choice gratefully appreciated.
Kevin Mattatall
1966-2009
Kevin Mattatall, age 43, of Amherst, passed away at the Moncton City Hospital after a short battle with Lung Cancer.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of Kathy (Blanchard) Mattatall and the late Rod Mattatall.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister Kellie Mattatall, her son Julian, numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Keeping with Kevin's wishes, there will be no public services. Internment to take place at a later date.
Ann Lorene (nee Lowerison) Chapman
1937-2009
Ann Lorene (nee Lowerison) Chapman, 72, of Baie Verte, passed away peacefully at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Monday, October 26, 2009. Born in Mt. Whatley, she was a daughter of the late Roy & Sara (Palmer) Lowerison.
Ann was a lifetime member of the Amherst Lioness Club, spent most of her working life in Amherst as a secretary in the insurance industry and for the Department of Housing until her retirement in 2002.
She will be sadly missed by her spouse, Tony Smith of Baie Verte; sons, Leslie (Susan), Portsmouth, England and Kevin (Carlene), Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan; grandsons, George and Brayde; and Tony's children, Bill of Amherst, Wayne, Lake Echo, NS, Winston (Judith), Saint John, NB, Wendy (Alan), Amherst and Willis, Saint John; and numerous relatives and friends across Canada.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one son, George; a brother, Leland and a sister Meda.
Ann's remains have been cremated under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777). A memorial service will be held at 11 am from St. Mark's Anglican Church, Mt. Whatley, on Friday, October 30, 2009. Interment will be in the family lot immediately following the service.
As per the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lung Association.
Harold Angus
1918-2009
Harold Angus, age 91, of Enfield, passed away at the Serenity Lodge, Enfield on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.
Born in Shinimicas, he was a son of the late Maynard and Mary (Atkinson) Angus.
Harold grew up and raised his son in Linden, later moving to Alma, Pictou County where he worked for Hawker Siddeley, spending his final years in Enfield. He was a past member of the Pugwash Legion. He attended the local United Church wherever he resided.
Harold will be sadly missed by his son David (Carolyn), Elmsdale; granddaughters Shelley (Trevor) Harvie, Elmsdale and Lori (Steve) Corkum, Bedford; great granddaughter Jaden Paige Harvie; brothers Albert (Mildred), Linden, James, Linden; sisters Della McNeil, Northbay, ON, Millie Hall, Gatineau, PQ, Grace (Russell) MacDonald, Dartmouth, and Helen Bryson, Linden, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife Anna Campbell, his second wife Gladys Brown and his third wife Mabel Spicer, sisters Marion Smith and Hazel Prescott.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 2 pm. Burial will follow in the Northport Hillside Cemetery.

Burnell "Bernie" Brine
1933-2009
With sadness, we announce the death of Burnell Robert Brine, age 76, of Joggins, NS, on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Joggins, he was a son of the late Stanley and Margaret (Brine) Brine.
Bernie worked for the Dept of Highways and Dept of Lands and Forest for many years. He was a member of the Joggins Legion and the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He assisted his brother with Lobster fishing.
Bernie will be sadly missed by his wife, Patricia (Foster); a daughter, Laura Lee (Donnie) VanSnick; 3 sons, Stanley (Mary Ann), Terry and Robert (Jane Smith); 6 grandchildren, Donald Jr. VanSnick, Rebecca (Matthew) Graham, Kimberley and Brandon VanSnick, Timothy and Amber Lines; a brother Donald Brine; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Douglas, Ronald and George and a sister Laura.
Bernie's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert from where visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11 am from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Muriel Clages
1925-2009
The death of Muriel Clages, age 84, of Amherst formerly of Kitchener, occurred peacefully at the Gables Lodge, Amherst on Sunday, November 22, 2009.
Born in Southampton, NS, she was a daughter of the late James and Leona (Ripley) McLellan.
Muriel is survived by her daughters Lorraine (Courtney) of Oxford, NS, Susanne (Michael) of Missouri, Texas; brothers Clarence (Anna) of Maccan, NS and Gary of Waterloo, ON. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Gunter Clages, sister Dorothy, brothers James and Robert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Muriel's ashes will be placed in the Cremation Wall in the Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo, ON.
Jean Kathleen Mosley
1918-2009
The death of Jean Kathleen Mosley, age 91, of Tidnish, NS, occurred on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Northport, NS, she was a daughter of the late Allison and Anna (Olson) Brownell.
During the war years, Jean worked at Canada Car. Following the war she clerked at Douglas Hardware. She was a member of the Baie Verte United Church. A long time member of the Tidnish Community she was active in many of the community activities and fund raisers. She was an avid card player, even to recent days, having assisted in the Tidnish Bridge Card Parties for 50 years. As a wife and mother, she assisted her husband in the running of their farm, and took pride in her homemaking.
Jean will be sadly missed by her son, Philip (Gail), Tidnish Bridge; step-son Roland (Pat), Halifax; daughter-in-law, Ghita (Jarmo), Finland; 3 beloved grandchildren, Pamela, Christopher and Kate; 5 great grandchildren, all residing in Finland; special niece, Christy; 2 brothers-in-law, Prim Annis and John (Ruth) Mosley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Jim Shaffner will officiate at the funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2 pm. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish. Helen Della Mason
1918-2009
Helen Della Mason, age 91, of Tidnish Bridge, NS, passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge, Amherst on Monday, November 30, 2009.
Born in Tidnish Bridge, NS in 1918, she was a daughter of the late Renwick and Minnie (Brownell) Bugley.
Helen was a member of the Lorneville United Church and a former member of the U.C.W. Helen was a fabulous piano player, and enjoyed entertaining anyone who would listen, even until her final weeks at Gables Lodge.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Vicki (Allen) Hardy, Tidnish Bridge, NS; son Rennie, Grande Cashe, AB; step-son Bev (Beverley) Mason, Amherst Head, NS; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sisters Avis (Lennie) Lowther, Tidnish Bridge, and Margaret Stultz, Amherst.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Norman MacPhee in 1967 and her second husband Floyd Mason in 1989, a grandaughter Tammy MacPhee, a step-son Clifford MacPhee, brothers Alvah, Ernie and Eddie, sister Eunice Kirby.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 10 am until the time of the funeral at 11 am. Internment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge, NS.

Percy Lawrence
1930-2009
The death of Percy Lawrence, age 79, of Nappan, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.
Born in Nappan, he was a son of the late Hibbert Pipes and Emily Maud (Grant) Lawrence.
An educationalist, he graduated from Normal School in 1950, Mount Allison in 1968 with BA and received his MEd from Dalhousie in 1970. He enjoyed 30 years in his chosen field, having been teacher, principal and consultant, both in northern Canada and Nova Scotia. Following retirement he returned to his homestead in Nappan, pursuing his sheep farming hobby for 27 years.
Percy is survived by his sister, Joan (Ken) Turner of Nappan, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Amos, Marjorie, Ruth and Hibbert.
At Percy's request his remains have been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst. There will be no visitation or memorial service. A private graveside service will be held in the Amherst Cemetery, Archdeacon Glenn Eason officiating.
