Levi Acker
19 Feb 1873 - 27 Aug 1960
After less than three weeks illness, there passed away at his home at Lake Pleasant, a respected citizen in the person of Levi Acker, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Acker, of that place. Mr. Acker, who had never married, lived with a relative, Perry Acker, and his wife, who have faithfully cared for him for many years. He was 87 when he died, and shortly before the end he became totally blind.
Surviving are three brothers, Austin of Kentville; Ezekiel of Lawrencetown; and Caleb, Lake Pleasant; also four sisters, Louisa (Mrs. Fletcher Tufts Bessie (Mrs. Wilbur Zinck); Bertha (Mrs. Joseph Emino) and Mrs. G. Acker Zinck, all of Lake Pleasant.
Predeceasing Mr. Acker were two brothers: Irving, who was killed in the Hastings mill; and Wilfred of North River; also two sisters, Mrs. Edward Robar of Nictaux and Mrs. Mrs. Michael Emino (Ellen) of Lake Pleasant.
Funeral services on Monday were conducted by Lic. Gerald Mosher, supply pastor of Springfield Baptist Church for a short time. He spoke words of comfort to the family, taking as his text the words of Jesus, "Let not your hearts be troubled."
Pall bearers were Burpee Mailman, Primrose Tufts, Asaph Varner and Hamilton Demond. Hymns by the choir were "Abide with Me" and "Rock of Ages." There were many floral tokens of respect. Burial took place in the cemetery adjoining the church.

TUFTS, Parker Nepean - 82, Lake Pleasant, Annapolis Co., passed away on Friday, December 14, 2007, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Lake Pleasant, he was a son of the late Primrose and Minnie (Whynot) Tufts. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Lois Oickle; sons, Eugene, Lake Pleasant; Kenneth, Falkland Ridge; granddaughter, Tiffany McLeod, New Germany; great-grandson, Damian John Kenneth Robar; nephews, Reggie and Brian Villeneuve, Digby. He was predeceased by his sister, Iona Oakley. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Monday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Springfield United Baptist Church, Springfield, Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Family interment will follow in the church cemetery. Donations may be made to Springfield United Baptist Church or Cemetery, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.

Lawrence Leslie Veinot, 86, of Sweets Corner died Thursday in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.Born in New Ross, he was a son of the late Enos and Agnes (Corkum) Veinot.
He is survived by two daughters, Jean (Mrs. Bert Galley), Windsor; Nita (Mrs. Murvell Gates), Sweets Corner; two sons, Murray, Sweets Corner; Beacher, Three Mile Plains; a sister, Elsie (Mrs. Fred Horton), Reading, Mass.; a brother, Howard, Stewiacke; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Jessie Leopold; a son, Ray; three sisters, Roxey, Amy and Ella; nine brothers, Wes, Frank, Beacher, Clarence, Joseph, Otis, Edward, Harold, and Guy.The body is in R.D. Lindsay's Funeral Home, Windsor, where the funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. E.E. Hill officiating, with burial in Ste. Croix Cemetery, Ste. Croix.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or any charity.

PUBLICOVER (Fancy), Daisy Bell - 88, Ocean View Manor, formerly of Gaetz Brook, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005, in the manor. Born in Marie Joseph, December 17, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Ambrose and Florence (Bezanson) Fancy. Daisy is survived by daughters, Anita (Merle) Riggs, Dartmouth; Audrey (Eugene) Bezanson, Eastern Passage; Sheila (Robert) Mason, Porter's Lake; sons, Seymour (Linda), Pictou; Frederick, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; Larry (Charlotte), Conrod's Settlement; sister, Nina Carroll, Halifax; brother, Farley, Waterdown, Ont.; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Daisy was predeceased by her husband, Parker; sisters, Leone, Alice, Dora, and brother, Joseph. Visitation will be today from 2-4 p.m. in Ecum Secum Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Church, Necum Teuch, with burial in the spring, Rev. Marilyn Lamb officiating. Family flowers only please. STODDART, Harold Myron — 68, of Inglisville, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Inglisville, he was a son of the late Lindsay and Elizabeth (Burns) Stoddart. Harold retired in 1986 from the construction industry. He loved hunting, fishing, bingo and enjoyed his scrap metal "junk" business. His last wish was to be baptized and his baptism was held on January 19, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Leona Whynot; daughters, Donna (Roger) Durling, Inglisville; Dale Whynot, Mount Hanley; Doreen (Ivan) Veinot, Inglisville; Beverley (Richard) Deveau, Greenwood; sons, Bruce (Ivy) Stoddart, Queen Charlotte Islands, B.C.; Michael (Melanie) Stoddart, Brickton; sisters, Dorothy Veinot, Canning; Alice (Dennis) Dahr, New Minas; Carolyn King, Clarence; half-sister, Stella Brewer, Halifax; brothers, Ronald (Wilma) Stoddart, South Williamston; James (Clarice) Stoddart, Greenwood; Wayne Stoddart, Inglisville; half-brother, Leslie Beals, Bridgetown; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great- grandchildren and will be sadly missed by his dog "Pebbles". VEINOTTE, Gloria Mae - 59, Verdun, Que., formerly of Clearland, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully in her sleep in Montreal General Hospital on Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Born in Clearland, Gloria was a daughter of the late George (Eddy) and Viola (Tanner) Veinotte of Clearland. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Donna Veinotte (husband Michael De Montigny, and children Jack, Jimmy, Phillip and Patrick) of Verdun, Que.; son, Dalton Letendre (wife Georgina and children Jessica and Tayler) of Calgary, Alta.; and son, Rene Letendre (wife Rachel Milett and children Kirk, Cory, Lance and Benjamin) of Verdun, Que.; and in Nova Scotia, sisters, Verlene (Mrs. Richard Veinotte), Clearland; Leolia (Mrs. Clifford Emino), Springfield; Elizabeth (Mrs. Darrell Corkum), Middle Cornwall; Heather (Mrs. Roger Robar), Chelsea; Veronica (Mrs. Murray Pierce), Blockhouse; and Janine (Mrs. Wayne Levy), Windsor; brothers, Bernard, Martin's Point; Rodney (wife Cheryl), Rose Bay; and Kevin (wife Sylvia), Martin's Point; 17 great-nieces and nephews. VEINOT, Violet Guelda - 79, Aylesford, died June 14, 2000, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Springfield, she was a daughter of the late Wilbert and Gertrude (Acker) Zinck. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters, Ruth (Mrs. Ronald Aalders), Coldbrook; Geneva (Mrs. Lewis Naugler), Nictaux Falls; sons, David, Aylesford; Dale (Kay), Kingston; Hartley (Myrna) and Wade (Faye), both of Aylesford; brothers, Oran, New Germany; Donald, Springfield; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces, especially Moreen. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; grandson, Eugene Veinot; sisters, Audrey, Damie; brother, Lamont; half-brother, Perry Acker. Visiting 7-9 p.m. today in Warren T. ROBAR, Roger Delbert — 71, loving husband and father, passed away early morning on December 30, 2010, while in intensive care with family by his side. He was born in Bridgewater, in the old Dawson Memorial Hospital on December 28, 1939. He was the eldest son of Marjorie Robar (Mail­man), of Chelsea, and the late Del­bert Robar. He is survived by wife, Heather (Veinotte) of Chel­sea; daughters, Amanda (Ian), of Bridgewater; and Ashley, of St. John’s, N.L.; brothers, Charles (Yvonne), Garry, Jeffery (Krista); and sisters, Gloria (Byron) Winters, Linda (Rodger) Demond, Heather (Wayne) Weagle, and Patricia (Warren) Sarty. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Viola Veinotte (Tanner), of Clearland; several brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles and many cousins. Pre­deceased by his brother, Gerald. He was heavily involved in Chelsea Unit­ed Baptist Church attending services, prayer meetings, and bible studies weekly. He also once held the posi­tions of Superintendent and teacher. Roger attended the Chelsea one-room schoolhouse, receiving his Grade 10, and furthering his education at New Germany Rural High School where he graduated in 1958. He went on to grad­uate from Truro Normal Collage in 1960, receiving a Class 2 teaching li­cense. He did teach for awhile, but soon realized it was not suited for him. Roger did enjoy travelling, telling sto­ries of his trips to Expo 67 in Montreal, Que., and England in 1976. Over his years, he worked for several grocery chains, including Loblaws in Bramp­ton, Ont. From 1976-1993 he was em­ployed by National Sea Products, Lu­nenburg, where he met his charming chick-a-dee (Heather) whom he mar­ried in 1981. The following year they moved into their Chelsea home, rais­ing two beautiful daughters. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, in­cluding his four kitties (Tiger, MissT, Cheech and Chong). Roger had the special gift of touching the hearts of everyone he met. Unfortunately, Rog­er battled with Bipolar Disorder for many long hard years. May he rest in peace now. Visitation will be held to­day, January 2, from 2-4 p.m. The fu­neral will be held at 11 a.m. on Mon­day, January 3, in Chelsea United Bap­tist Church. Burial will follow in Chel­sea Maple Grove Cemetery. Donations in his name may be made to Chelsea United Baptist Church to fulfill Rog­er’s wish of supplying seat cushions for all pews.

Lester Eugene Veinotte 79, of West Northfield, passed away November 24, 2001 in the QE II Health Sciences Center, Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born in West Northfield on July 9, 1922, he was a son of the late Perlie Wilson and Flossie Blanche (Zinck) Veinotte. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 24 in Bridgewater. He was the founder and past owner of Veinotte’s Chainsaw Sales and Service; L.E. Veinotte and Sons Ltd, Well Drilling and Victoria Ridge, formerly Trailer City in Wileville. He was the first chief of the Northfield District Fire Department, which began in 1947. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, West Northfield, and served as warden and on Parish Councils; member and past president of Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Association; Nova Scotia Well Drillers Association and past executive; NS Manufacturers Housing Association Executive; Progressive Conservative Party of Lunenburg County and past executive; Antiquity Preceptory; Scottish Rite; Philae Shrine, Treasurer and Past President; Acacia Lodge, Bridgewater; and Norwood Lodge, New Ross; Royal Arch Masons; Royal Order of Jesters Court 155. He is survived by his wife Pauline Vivian (Langille); sons, Eugene (Lana); Bruce (Heather), all of West Northfield; daughter Rev. Catherine (Foard) Robar, Meisner’s Section; grandchildren, Andy, Anne, Angela, Bryce, Robyne, Mark, Sarah, John; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Bronson, Jay, Timothy, Haley and Kelsey; a sister, Margaret (Laird) Arenburg, Truro. He was predeceased by his brothers, William, Clarence, Ervin and Elwood in infancy. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge Service being held at 6:15 p.m., followed by a Legion Tribute Service at 7 p.m. all in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in St, Andrew’s Anglican Church, West Northfield, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Family flowers by request. TAYLOR, Douglas Murray - 77, Bridgetown, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in West Arlington, he was a son of the late John and Susan (Sabean) Taylor. He was a woodsman all his life. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching hockey, baseball, wrestling and TV game shows. He had a deep love for his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Vera Isabelle Wilkins; children, Wade (Carolyn), Parkers Cove; Susan (Carl) Langille, Centrelea; Carson (Peggy), Alberta; Elgie (Jill), Port Lorne; Randy (Mary), Alberta; Rosemary (Rick) Milner, Upper Clements; Danny (Susan), Bridgetown; Dale Taylor, Middleton; Dane (Candy Bent), Centrelea; Adam (Shelley), North Williamston; Brenda (Carl) Bezanson, Lawrencetown; Krista (Eugene)Cress, Bridgetown;Ron(Shelley), Clarence; John (Consuelo), Kingston; 48 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Durling, Bridgetown; Pearl (Angus) Clayton, Wilmot; brothers, Lyle (May), Bridgetown; Gerald (Helen) and George (Margie), all of Belleisle. He was predeceased by daughter, Diane Halliday; three grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie, Adeline, Shirley, Frances, Esther; brothers, Leveret, Frank, Bob, Ansel, Ralph and two brothers in infancy.
Visitation will be 7-9 today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Robert L. Hall Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Bridgetown Baptist Church, Rev. George Neily officiating.

OICKLE, Aubrey Wesley - 84, Maitland, Lunenburg Co., died January 19, 2002, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Ozem and Lena (Lohnes) Oickle. Surviving are sons, Keith, Maitland; Clifford, Pine Grove; daughters, Rosalie (Walter) Nauss, Mahone Bay; Margaret (Donald) Crouse, Baker Settlement; Joyce (Charles) Eagle, Rhodes Corner; Wilma (Fred) Frank, Maitland; Florence (Bruce) Selig, Baker Settlement; sister, Olive (Clayton) Oickle, Maitland; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Phyllis Westhaver; brothers, Dawson, Basil, Arnold and Earling. There will be no visitation in the funeral home. Graveside memorial service will be 2 p.m. today in Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse, Rev. Linda MacDonald officiating. Family flowers only. Phyllis P. Oickle, 80, Maitland, Lunenburg County, died July 25, 1998, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Fox Point, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Noble and Prudence (Miller) Westhaver. She was a member of Christ Church and Guild, Maitland. Surviving are her husband, Aubrey; daughters, Rosella(Mrs. Walter Nauss), Mahone Bay; Margaret (Mrs. Donald Crouse), Florence (Mrs. Bruce Selig), Baker Settlement; Joyce (Mrs. Charles Eagle), Upper LaHave; Wilma(Mrs. Fred Frank), Maitland; sons, Keith, Maitland; Clifford, Pine Grove; sister, Beulah Clinton, Chester Basin; brother, Earl, Mill Lake; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by several sisters and brothers; a grandson. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish Street, Mahone Bay. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday in Christ Church, Maitland, Rev. Linda Macdonald officiating. Burial in Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse. Donations to Garden of Rest Cemetery.
