VEINOT, Ralph Dixon — 89, of Lunenburg and formerly of New Germany, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in New Germany, he was a son of the late Owen and Elva Veinot. Ralph worked for many years at Zwicker’s Box Factory in New Germany and in 2006 came to reside in Harbour View Haven where he will be missed by friends and staff at the home. He is survived by his brother, Gilbert (Lila) Veinot of New Germany. He was predeceased by his sister, Flossie Mac-Farlane. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. 3, Lunenburg. A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s in the Wilderness Anglican Cemetery, New Germany. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Charles Drew 1952
The death of Charles Drew, a well known resident of New Germany, occurred at the D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater, on Tuesday, July 29, 1952, where he had been a patient for several months. He was born at Stanburne 79 years ago, a
son of the late William Drew and Elizabeth Beazley Drew, he was the last surviving member of that family. The late Mr.Drew was a successful farmer. He is survived by five daughters, (Rosie) Mrs. Alfred Waller, Halifax; Alpha (Mrs. Harry Carver), (Lila) Mrs. Gilbert Veinot; (Christine) Mrs. Harry Hall, all of New Germany ; two sons, Clifford, New Germany; and Seth,
Bridgewater. His wife and a daughter predeceased him several years ago.
The funeral services were held at St. John's Anglican church, conducted by the restor, Rev. W.R. Martell. Hymns sung were "Now The Labourer's Task is O'er" and "Abide With Me." The pall bearers were J. H. Hamm, Laurie Hamm, Horton Chesley, and Joseph Zwicker.
Burial was made in the family lot in Lakeside Cemetery, New Germany.
DOREY, Hilda Marie - 83, formerly of Wileville and Newburne, Lunenburg Co., died March 25, 1995, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Milton, Queens Co., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Maria (Townsend) Carver. In her earlier years, she had been employed with Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg and Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bridgewater. Surviving are daughters, Irene (Mrs. Donald Beck), Newburne; Kathleen (Mrs. Raymond Beck), Berwick; Joan (Mrs. Dale Zinck), Feltzen South; sons, Stanley, Berwick; Maynard, Bernard, Wileville; Carman, Upper Cornwall; brothers, James, Port Mouton; Maurice, Liverpool; Douglas, Hammonds Plains; sisters, Mrs. Edith Rosetta Penny, Mrs. Dolly Hansen, Dartmouth; Deanie (Mrs. Walter Lowe), Sandy Cove; Kay (Mrs. Arlee Delong), Bridgewater; Beatrice (Mrs. Gerald Gallant), Milton; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Hibbert; daughters, Joyce, Mary; son, Merlyn; grandson, Gregory; sister, Annie; brothers, Henry, Benjamin, Samuel. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bridgewater, Bishop Wayne Hunt officiating. Burial in Upper Cornwall Cemetery. CHARLES RAMEY - New Germany - Charles Dennis Ramey died at his home in Barss Corner, Lunenburg County after a long illness. Born in Newburn, Mr. Ramey was the son of the late Stephen and Sabina (Jodrey) Ramey. Surviving are his wife, the former Lila Wagner, three daughters, Bernice (Mrs. Donald Phinney) of Kentville, Erna (Mrs. Lloyd Stevens) of Ingramport, and Gloria (Mrs. Ervin Dorey) of Mill Cove, and two sons, Donald and Carroll, both of Barss Corner, one half sister Mertie (Mrs. Russell Leslie) of Newburn. The funeral service was conducted from Langille's Funeral Home, Barss Corner, with Rev. Peter MacDonald and Mr. Adams officiating. Interment was in the Indian Brook Cemetery.

MILNER, Richard Byron -65, Princedale, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008, in Annapolis Community Health Centre. Born on March 23, 1943, in Digby he was the son of the late Myres and Marie Jean (Allen) Milner. His best moose hunting buddy Rex Veinotte and his friend Norman Milner were at his side. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy (Veinotte) Milner; daughters, Megan Riley (Joel), Juanita Milner (Marty Aldred), both of Princedale, and Daphne Bassendale, Ontario; stepson, Michael Jones, Berwick; 10 grandchildren; sister, Alice Jacques (Stan). He had a "special friend" which he called his "adopted son", Keith Huston, Princedale. He was predeceased by brother, Joseph Milner. He was a carpenter and a woodsman. He loved hunting and fishing, and spending time with his friends at the camp shooting the crap and drinking beer. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. At Richard's request, there will be no visitation or memorial service. A private burial will take place at a later date. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. We would like to thank Dr. Barkwell and the nurses at Annapolis Community Health Centre for all their care and help with Richard while he was in their care.
Susie Drew
Died 1936
The community of New Germany was shocked to hear on Saturday night of the sudden passing of Susie, wife of Charles Drew, at the age of 47 years. Although Mrs. Drew had not been in the best of health, her condition was not recognized as serious, and she was about her household duties as usual on Saturday, and after finishing her work, walked to the village with her two little daughters to attend a show. On the way she was seized with a heart attack, and proceeded to the office of Dr. A.J. McDonald, for treatment. The latter rushed to her to her home by automobile but she expired just after entering the home. Beside her husband, she is survived by two sons, Clifford and Seth, and by five daughters, Clover, in the United States; Rosie of Halifax, and Alpha, Lila and Christine at home. She was the daughter of Hibbert and the late Mrs. Etta Veinot of Simpson's Corner and of this family surviving members are one sister, Mrs. Reginald Hyson, and four brothers, Clayton, Dimock, Alex and Howard, all of Simpson's Corner. The late Mrs. Drew was a kind and loving mother, and will be greatly missed in her home and community. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon. Service at the house and grave, conducted by the Rev. T.G. Ott, pastor of the Anglican Church, and was largely attended. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.
BEGIN, Margaret L. - Bridgewater, died September 8, 1993, in Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late Ezekiel and Maud (Joudrey) Oickle. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgewater; South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation; the auxiliary of Hillside Pines; Lunenburg West Progressive Conservative Association and a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Ladies Auxiliary. She was an ardent curler from 1940/59 when she resigned as treasurer and vice-president of the Bridgewater Curling Club to manage the Sally Shop for 20 years. She is survived by her son, Jack, Dartmouth; three sisters, Edith Brignell, Audrey Stuart, both of Bridgewater; Evelyn (Mrs. Everett Fancy), New Glasgow; two brothers, Robert, Bridgewater; George, Auburndale; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Avard; five brothers, Harold, Rex, Eric, Avard, St. Clair in infancy; two sisters, Mona, Phyllis. There will be no visitation. Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. STEVENS, Eileen Dorothy - 78, Head of St. Margarets Bay, died May 11, 1998, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, New Infirmary Site. Born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Ezekiel and Radie (Woodworth) Acker. She was employed for 13 years with Halifax County and Bedford District School Board as a caretaker. She was a member of Head of St. Margarets Bay United Baptist Church, and was an avid bingo player. Surviving are daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Donald Dauphinee), Glen Haven; Marion (Mrs. Arlen Crocker), Seabright; Jean (Mrs. Robert Rounds), Bridgetown; Beverley (Mrs. Hal Martin), Tantallon; Sharon Benvie, at home; brother, Leroy, Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co.; sisters, Roxie (Mrs. Joseph Ryan), Betty Deveau, Dartmouth; Gladys Pelton, Mildred Glister, Wolfville; Marion Baker, Digby; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Robert; son, Douglas Alfred; brothers, Bobby, Harry, Billy; sisters, Dorothy, Nellie, Nina, Marjorie, Franny. SCHOFIELD, Walter Freeman - 81, Berwick, Kings County, died December 22, 1992, in Northwood Manor, Halifax. Born in Newtonville, Kings County, he was a son of the late Delbert and Annie (Benjamin) Schofield. He was a veteran of the Second World, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was employed as a foreman at Berwick Bakery from 1945 until retirement in 1976. He was an active member of Berwick Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Nina B. Acker, Northwood Manor; son, Ronald, Trenton, Ont.; daughter, Marie Alexander, Halifax; brother, Albert, Greenwich, Kings County; sister, Florence Parker, Wolfville; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Parker, Kenneth, Frederick; five sisters, Ethel, Mary, Clara, Rachael, Eleanor. The body is in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, visiting 6-9 p.m. tonight, where funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Gordon Walker officiating. Burial will be in Berwick Cemetery. WHITMAN, James Willard - 88, Bridgetown, formerly of Upper Granville, passed away March 21, 2008, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Upper Granville, he was a son of the late Leonard P. and Jennie May (Gilliatt) Whitman. He was a retired stationary engineer, farmed for many years and also worked for Everett & Smith Auto Body Shop. He was a ham radio operator since 1950 with the call sign VE1 AAZ. Jim is survived by daughters, Donna (Richard) Wightman, Alberton, P.E.I.; Barbara (Walter) Thompson, Lawrencetown; stepdaughters, Carol Halliday, Clarence; Marilyn McGraw, Saint John, N.B.: Ann McGraw, Nevada; stepsons, Larry and Harold, both of Grand Manan; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Clarke, and his second wife, Marion Rafuse; brother, Stewart, and two infant sisters. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 28, and funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, both in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, with Rev. George Neily officiating. VEINOTT, Gerald Francis - 73, Brickton, died May 22, 2004, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Lawrencetown, he was the son of the late Francis and Olivia (Oickle) Veinott. He was employed at the Lawrencetown Post Office for 36 and a half years. Surviving are his wife, the former Sadie Thompson; sons, Wayne (Crystal), Bridgetown; Keith (Patricia) and Kevin (Heather), both of Lawrencetown; grandchildren, Grace and Emma, Bridgetown; Brittany and Courtney, Lawrencetown; Leah, Lawrencetown; Ashley and Kristen, Truro. He was predeceased by half-brother, Ivan Patterson. Memorial service 2 p.m. Tuesday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, Rev. Judith Perry officiating. Carroll Percy Wentzell 1978 Bridgewater Bulletin
Carroll Percy Wentzell of Onset, Cape Cod, U.S.A., died on Wednesday, August 30, at the age of 73 years.
He was born in Newburne, Nova Scotia, a son of Ezrom and Ida (Veinotte) Wentzell. Moving to the United States at an early age, he operated his own ice and oil business in the Boston area.
Left to mourn his passing are his daughter, Doris Griffin and son-in-law, Bob of Billerica, Mass.; his son, Walter and daughter-in-law, Janice of Randolph, Mass.; two grandchildren, Lisa and Tara Griffin of Billerica; a sister, Lela, Mrs. Perley Ramey of Maplewood; and two brothers, Russell of Kentville and Gordon of Newburne.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Grace Zinck of Maplewood this past January; and by three brothers, Kenneth, Maurice, and Elwood.
Visiting hours at the Hurly Funeral Home in Randolph, Mass. were on Friday, September 1 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, September 2, at 11 a.m. form Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Talbot Avenue, Dorchester, Mass, by his pastor, Rev. Peterson. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury, Mass.
Mrs. Sophia Brown 1940 Bridgewater Bulletin
The death of Mrs. Sophia Brown of Maplewood occurred very suddenly at her home on Friday last. Although Mrs. Brown had been in poor health for more than a year, her death at this time was entirely unexpected.
Deceased, who was a daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Daniels, was 86 years of age and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Ernst of Walden and Mrs. Alberdina Zwicker of Scarsale, who so tenderly cared for her during her illness. Also surviving is one brother, Benjamin Daniels of Maplewwod. There remain also many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.The funeral took place on Monday, June 24, from the Lutheran Church at New Burne, after a short service at the house, and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. James Dauphinee. Interment was in the Newburne Cemetery.
