BARRY, Richard Albert - 59, 69 Flamingo Cres., Bramalea, Ont., L6T 2G6, formerly of Maitland, Lunenburg Co., passed away at his home on Monday, August 28, 2000. Born in Bridgewater, he was the only son of the late Albert and Verlie (Veinotte) Barry. He was the beloved husband of Ada; loving father of Steven and Wayne, all of Bramalea; dear brother of Diane and husband Len Zwicker, Wileville. Funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Scott Funeral Chapel, 289 Main St., N., Brampton, Ont. Interment will follow in Brampton Memorial Gardens. In loving memory of Richard, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, through Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater.

VEINOTTE, Gilbert Lee - 83, Upper Cornwall, Lunenburg Co., died February 25, 1997, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Newburne, he was a son of the late Judson and Princetta (Veinotte) Veinotte. He was a member of New Cornwall United Baptist Church, Cornwall. He was a past employee of Bowater Mersey Paper Co., and Clarence Heisler & Son Boat builders, Indian Point. Surviving are his wife, the former Laura Grace Frank; son, Oran, Toronto, Ont.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by half-brother, George. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Thursday in New Cornwall United Baptist Church, Rev. Brad Putnam and Rev. Barbara Putnam officiating. Burial in Cornwall Memorial Gardens, Cornwall. Family flowers only. Donations to any charity.

WAGNER, Freda Mae - 84, Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay, formerly of Oakland, Lunenburg Co., died August 26, 2000, in the home. Born in Bakers Settlement, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Janie (Knox) Bolivar. Surviving are daughters, Helen Veinot, Beulah Veinot, Oakland; son, Aubrey Wagner, California; sisters, Hazel Bolivar, Bakers Settlement; brothers, Randolph Bolivar, Bakers Settlement; Leo Bolivar, Branch LaHave; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Harris; an infant sister; brothers, Aubrey, Donald, Clyde, Byron. No visitation. Funeral 11 a.m. Friday in Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay, Rev. Robert Rock officiating. Burial in Park Cemetery, Mahone Bay. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or any charity.

SLAUENWHITE, Carl Everette - 96, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay, on November 15, 2007. Born in Lower Northfield, Lunenburg Co., he was the fourth of 12 children born to Norman and Laura (Slauenwhite) Slauenwhite. Everette was dedicated to his family and friends, and loved his village of New Germany. His unwavering faith, humble spirit, and generous nature sustained him in life and made him a source of inspiration to all who knew him. A man of great integrity, he touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His sense of humour and ability to recount stories of life in the early 20th century will continue to be passed on and remain in our memories forever. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Everette will be sadly missed but never forgotten by those who will now become his memory keepers. He is survived by his children, Everette (Helen), New Germany; Gerald (Ernestine), Halifax; Harry (Geraldine), Lower Sackville; Betty Lou (Lindsay Jenkins), Watford, Lunenburg Co.; Donna (Stanley Veinot), Dartmouth; brother, Kendall, Stanley Section, Lunenburg Co.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Everette was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Vivian Lorine (Dixon) Slauenwhite; infant daughter, Geraldine; brothers, Douglas, Joseph, John, Murray, and Eric; sisters, Elmore, Margaret, Helen, Phyllis, Beatrice; daughter-in-law, Paulette. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, New Germany. A memorial service in celebration of Everette's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, in Epworth United Church, Rev. Joan Conrad officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the church hall. A private interment will take place in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, New Germany. Donations in Everette's memory may be made to the New Germany Medical Centre, Epworth United Church, or a charity of one's choice. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the very caring and supportive staff at Mahone Nursing Home and to the nurses and doctors who cared for him, so lovingly, while he was a patient at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Enos R. Veinot - Marriott's Cove - Enos R Veinot, 64, of Marriott's Cove, died Sunday at his home. Born at West Dublin, Lunenburg County, he was the son of the late James and Janet (Bushen) Veinot. He was employed for forty years with the Nova Scotia Power Commission and was a member of Empire Lodge IOOF #109, Petite Riviere. He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Lantz; one daughter Janet (Mrs. Leslie Ayer), Victoria, BC; two step daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Wallace Zwicker), Halifax; and Shella (Mrs. David McVay), Toronto; two sisters, Vida (Mrs. Herbert Manthorne), Liverpool; and Myra (Mrs. Evard Corkum), Mount Pleasant; two step grandchildren. The body is at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 pm, Rev. James Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant United Church cemetery. Mrs. Amy (Thomas Norwood (no year) Bridgewater Bulletin
In the early hours of March 20, at the Civic Hospital, Halifax, there passed peacefully to rest, Mrs. Amy Norwood at the age of 89 years and 8 month She was the daughter of the late Amos and Agnes (Corkum) Veinot of New Ross and lived all her married life in Baker Settlement, except for the past three years spent with her daughter, Mrs. Hazen Veno, at Halifax, who, with her family, tenderly cared for her mother during several months illness, prior to her death.
As long as health permitted, she was active in church and community affairs.
Being of a loving and sunny nature, she will be missed, not only by her family and relatives, but by a host of friends, to whom she was lovingly referred to as "Nanna Norwood."
Left to mourn the loss of a good mother are four daughters, Flo (Mrs. Ernest Wentzell) of Watertown, Mass.; Daisy (Mrs. Harry Kells) of Webster, Mass.; Sadie (Mrs. Harry Goudey) of Yarmouth; and Marian (Mrs.Hazen Veno) of Halifax; five sons, Clement and Robert of Dartmouth; Warren of West Clifford; and Donald and Guy of Baker Settlement; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Elsie (Mrs. Fred Horton) of Reading, Mass.; Roxie (Mrs. Austin Brown) of New Ross; four brothers, Wesley of Kingston; Frank of Lawrencetown; Laurence of Sweet's Corner; and Howard of Westo Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Cora; one sister, and seven brothers.
Funeral service was held on Sunday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Baker Settlement, of which she was a member. Rev. Scharf of Halifax spoke comforting words to the bereaved, taking as his text Psalm 23, verses 1 and 4, a favourite passage of the deceased. Hymns sung were "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Nearer My God to Thee."
Pallbearers were six of Nanna's young friends, Steven Penney, Malcolm Veinot, Philip Seamone, Brian Crouse, and Wayne and Garry Meisner. Interment was in the family plot in the Baker Settlement Cemetery.

OIKLE, Mary Edna - 85, Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg Co., died November 21, 1999, in the home. Born in Windermere (near Berwick), she was the youngest daughter of the late John and Ella (Borden) Powers. Married to Emerson Earl Oikle on June 10, 1937, she lived in Hantsport where she made strawberry boxes for Hantsport Fruit Basket Co. (Murray's Mill). The summer cottage at Green Bay (Petite Riviere Bridge) became her last residence. Edna graduated from Mario's School of Hair Design and set up a summer hairdressing service in her living room for visitors and tourists. During the winter months, Edna traveled to Miami, Fla. and was employed as a switchboard operator for two hotels, including the Fountanblue. Upon retirement, Edna devoted her life to her grandchildren, the flower and vegetable gardens enjoyed by many of the community. Crochet afghans and handcrafts occupied many winter hours. She is survived by her only child, Marilyn (Sydney) Furzeland, Newport Station; sisters, Nina Boyd, Deland, Florida; Angie Patterson, Dartmouth; Elsie Chase, Kingston; seven nieces; six nephews; five grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Emerson Oikle; sister, Mildred Burbidge; brother, Vernon Powers; niece, Marjorie Auchteronie; nephews, Ivan Patterson, Elmer Oikle. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by family request. Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Rev. Hugh McNally officiating. Celebration of life to be held April 2000, in Petite Riviere, Lunenburg Co. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Mary Joudrey 1945 Bridgewater Bulletin
After a prolonged illness, the death of Mary Jane Joudrey, widow of Thomas Joudrey, occurred Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Francis S. Durga, 450 Main Street, Norwich, Mass.
Born in Nova Scotia in 1867, the daughter of William and Eleanor Whynott Oickle, she has lived in this country for the past several years, moving to Norwich about twelve years ago. She held membership in Christ Episcopal Church.
A devoted mother, Mrs. Joudrey is survived by the following children: Mrs. Caulder Freeman of Somerville, Mass.; Mrs. James Fenna of Plainfield, N.J.; Mrs. Frank F. Walsh of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia; Mrs. Robert Whynott of Liverpool, Nova Scotia; Mrs. Oscar Walker, Halifax, Nova Scotia; Mrs. Perkins Harding, Milton, Nova Scotia; Stewart Whynott, Halifax; Miss Mona Joudrey, Halifax; Mrs. Francis S. Durga, Norwich. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Joudrey were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Douglas H.L. Weth of Christ Episcopal Church. Burial was made in Maplewood Cemetery with Rev. Mr. Loweth conducting the committal. The bearers were John Collins, Fred Freeman, Frank S. Durga, and Joseph W. Hourigan. The services were largely attended and there were many beautiful floral tributes. Included in the attendance were relatives and friends from Somerville, Gloucester, and Natick, Mass., Montville and other places.

OXNER, MRS. MAISIE ELLEN - 91, Harbor View Nursing Home, Lunenburg, died Friday in Harbor View Haven. Born in Lunenburg. She was a daughter of the late Nathan and Ellen (Young) Knock. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg. She is survived by her husband Owen; a daughter, Mrs. Francis Swift, Dartmouth; a son, Dorne, Lunenburg; a brother Ivan, Mader's Cove; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger, Ray. The body is in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Visiting 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Lawrence Mawhinney officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church or any charity.

Gertrude M. Veinotte 1981 Bridgewater Bulletin
Gertrude M. Veinotte, widow of the late Wilbert S.Veinotte, of Middle Cornwall, passed away at home on Saturday, August 8, 1981. Born in Upper Cornwall in 1895, she was the daughter of the late Austin Veinotte and Alice (Daniels)Veinotte.
Surviving are four daughters, Daisy Gray of Memphis, Tenn.; Evelyn Whynot of Liverpool;Phyllis Wentzell of Parkdale; Lola Zinck of Maplewood; and four sons, Percy, at home; Claude of Berwick; Perry of Clearland; and Merlin of Edmonton; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Surviving besides her children are three sisters, Lola Hawley of Cape Cod, Mass.; Bessie Chandler of Liverpool; and Lillian Joudrey of Upper Cornwall; three brothers, Laurie of Middle Cornwall; Lloyd of Upper Cornwall, and Ervin of Blockhouse.
She was predeceased by a sister, Hazel, and two brothers, Lester and Vernon.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 11, at 3 p.m. from the United Baptist Church, New Cornwall with Rev. John Boyd officiating.
Interment was in the Baptist Church Cemetery in New Cornwall.

Mrs. Henry Oickle 1929 Bridgewater Bulletin
The death of Catherine Louisa, wife of Mr. Henry Oickle, occurred at her home in Dayspring on Saturday, July 6th, after being confined to her bed for about three weeks.
Mrs. Oickle, who was formerly Miss Robar, was born on December 8th, 1856, and was the eldest daughter of David and Catherine Louisa Robar. Her father passed away many years ago, but her mother at well over ninety years of age still survives and there are four brothers: Oliver, Frederick, Simeon, and Bamford, residing in Dayspring. Another brother, William, resides in Halifax. One sister, Mrs. E. Rodenhiser, resides in Dayspring; one Mrs. U.(?)Rodenhiser, resides in Halifax; and another, Mrs. Charles Silver, resides in Bridgewater. Mrs. Oickle was married at Bridgewater in April, 1886, and immediately went to her husband's home at Springfield, Annapolis County, where she resided for about fifteen years. In 1902 they sold out at Springfield and purchased a farm at Dayspring where they have since resided. For several years Mrs. Oickle has been in failing health, but continued to attend to her household duties up to a short time before her death.
The funeral was held on Monday, July 8th, from the house that had been her home for about twenty-seven years. Before leaving, hymns were sung and prayer offered, and a sermon preached from II Corinthians 5, 1, after which the burial took place in the Dayspring Cemetery. The services were conducted by the Rev. W. J. Bridgman of St. Matthew's Church, of which Mrs. Robar was a member and in which she took great interest. Of her it may be said that she was a friend of all and the enemy of none.

Mrs. James Mader 1941
The death of Mrs. James Mader occurred at an early hour on Sunday morning, August 31, at the home of her son, Fred Oickle, of New Germany, following a brief illness of a few weeks duration. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Barkhouse, Dalhousie, and was born 72 years ago. She was twice married, her first husband was the late Stephen Oickle of Stanburne who passed away in 1916 and from that marriage there survive two sons, Percey of Stanburne and Fred of New Germany, with whom she resided; also four grandchildren. A daughter, Miss Zepporah Oickle, R.N. of New York, passed away three years ago. Her second husband was the late James Mader of Pine Grove, who died seven years ago.The late Mrs. Mader was of a quiet and kind disposition and had many friends who will regret to learn of her passing. She was a member of the Anglican Church. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, the services at the home and church were conducted by the Rev. C.C. Veinot, who spoke from Hebrews 11:16. The hymns sung were "Abide With Me, " "Lead Kindly Light, " "O Happy Band of Pilgrims, " and "Son of My Soul." The pall bearers were Clarence Slauenwhite, Harris Holland, Clarence Mosher, and Daniel Morton. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held.
