SPENCER, Nellie Idella - 80, Wolfville, died March 29, 1995, in Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born at Lake Pleasant, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Ezakiel and Radie (Woodworth) Acker. She was a lifelong resident of Wolfville and was a member of the Wolfville Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, George; daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Chesley Spencer), Wolfville; Florence (Mrs. Robert Myles), North Grand Pre; Barbara (Mrs. Richard Hubbard), Yarmouth; brothers, LeRoy, Lawrencetown; Harry, Dartmouth; sisters, Nina (Mrs. Walter Schofield), Halifax; Mildred Glister, Lower Wolfville; Eileen Stevens, St. Margarets Bay; Gladys Pelton, Wolfville; Roxie (Mrs. Joseph Ryan), Dartmouth; Marion (Mrs. Frank Baker), Gullivers Cove, Digby Co.; Betty Deveau, Porters Lake; Dorothy Acker, Spryfield; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Robert, William; sisters, Annie, Marjorie. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Saturday in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Wolfville, Rev. Dr. M.R. Cherry officiating. Burial in Willowbank Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or any charity.

CORNELIUS, Earl Thomas (Babe) - 78, Chester, died December 4, 1993, at home. Born in Chester, he was a son of the late Douglas and Winnifred (Hume) Cornelius. He was a gunner in the West Nova Scotia Regiment, serving in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and on Continental Europe. He was employed as second engineer with K. Karlsen & Co., Blandford and as a delivery and store clerk at the Shamrock Grocery Store, Chester for many years. He is survived by his wife, the former Pearl (Leopold) (Crossley); stepdaughter, Avis (Mrs. Cyril Armstrong), Chester; stepson, Wilbert, St. Catharines, Ont.; three sisters, Carolyn (Mrs. Harry Veinotte), Mahone Bay; Louise (Mrs. Stillman MacDonald), Eleanor (Mrs. Ward Tancock), both of Chester; five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Paul, Frank, Roland. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in the United Baptist Church, Chester, Rev. Brian Keezer and Rev. Dr. M. Allen Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the Old United Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association through Davis Funeral Home, Chester.

SALSMAN, Donald Wilson - 86, Waterville, Kings Co., died March 31, 1995, in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Waterville, he was a son of the late Emery and Addie (Rogers) Salsman. He worked as a self-employed carpenter most of his life. He was a member of Waterville Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Viola Lucretia Beck, Kentville; daughter, Eleanor (Mrs. Gordon Morse), Berwick; sisters, Jessie Rafuse, Berwick; Molly Butts, Halifax; Lillian (Mrs. Blake Salsman), Somerset; June (Mrs. Stanley Salsman), Waterville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sons, Rupert, Robert; daughter, Erma in infancy; brothers, David, LeRoy, Nobel, Sidney, William, Laurie. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Sunday in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick. Funeral 3 p.m. Monday in Waterville Baptist Church, Pastor Ralph Lepore and Rev. Gordon Walker officiating. Burial in Berwick Cemetery. Donations to Waterville Baptist Church, The Lung Association or Evergreen Home for Special Care.

COLLICUTT, Steve - 85, Canaan, Lunenburg Co., died April 11, 1996, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Canaan, he was a son of the late Wallace and Albertha (Weisner) Collicutt. He was a retired trucker, woodsman and sawmill owner and operator. He was a former deacon at the United Baptist Church, Canaan. Surviving are his wife, the former Irene L. Veinot; daughters, Connie, at home; Cheryl (Mrs. John Perry), Windsor Road; son, Grant, Canaan; sister, Elsie Hiltz, Shoreham Village, Chester; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Ada Collicutt, Cora Collicutt, Odie Armstrong, Dora Gordon; brothers, Percy, David, Herbert, Freeman, one in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Memorial service was held April 14 in Chester United Baptist Church, Rev. Brian Keezer officiated. Burial at a later date. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Chester United Baptist Church.

DAUPHINEE, Susie Beatrice - 92, Middle Cornwall, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2005, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Maplewood, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nina (Wentzell) Veinot. She retired from a 35 year career as a school teacher. She is survived by daughter, Linda Younis (Allie), Middle Cornwall; son, Collins (Jean), Bedford; sisters, Irene Collicutt, Lois Turner, Jean Webber, Ruby Ferguson, Elsie Maughan; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; son, Dale; sisters, Ruth and Annie; brother, Maynard. Visiting will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in New Cornwall United Baptist Church, New Cornwall, Rev. Lloyd Gillieo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. MacDONALD, Stillman Gilbert - 87, Chester, died May 18, 1994, in Shoreham Village Nursing Home. Born at Harrigan Cove, Halifax County, he was a son of the late George A. and Georgina (Loretta) MacDonald.
He was a first class lineman with Nova Scotia Light and Power for 33 years; associate member of Royal Canadian Legion, Butler Branch 44; life member of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department and 10-year volunteer with Shoreham Village Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Cornelius; three daughters, Joyce (Mrs. Wayne Beaton), Marion (Mrs. Alfred Gill), both of Halifax; Juanita (Mrs. David Grugan), Bedford; two brothers, Eldridge, Ottawa; Charles, Ontario; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Douglas; two brothers, Malcolm, Victor; two sisters, Louisa, Hattie. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday in United Baptist Church, Chester, Rev. B. Keezer officiating. Burial will be in Pinehill Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Chester.

Harold J. Dauphinee, 75, Middle Cornwall, died Thursday in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Middle Cornwall, he was a son of the late Artemus and Annie (Wile) Dauphinee. He was a retired lumberman and farmer and a member of the New Cornwall United Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Susie Veinot; a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Allie Younis), Middle Cornwall; a son, Collins, Bedford; two brothers, Ralph, Middle Cornwall; Frank, Lunenburg; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Dale; a sister, Frances; three brothers, Carl, Uriel, Louis. The body is in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay; visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Funeral service will be held 2 p, m. Sunday at New Cornwall United Baptist Church, Dr. G.G. Harrop officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Donations may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or the New Cornwall United Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dean Barry 1958 Bridgewater Bulletin
One of Maitland's oldest residents, Mr. .Dean William Barry, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, November 15th, after a lengthy illness.
The late Mr. Barry was born at Maitland eighty-one years ago and spent his entire life here. He was the son of the late Eli and Matilda Barry and was the last surviving member of that family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Pearl Greek of Blue Rocks; one daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Walter Knickle), of Maitland; two sons, Murray at Blockhouse; and Harris, at home; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive him. A son, Rounsefell, and a daughter, Lucy, predeceased him.
The funeral was held at Christ Church, Maitland, of which he was a member, on Monday afternoon, November 17th, and was conducted by the Rev. E.L. Parsons of Liverpool. Favourite hymns sung were "Unto The Hills" and "God Be With You." Pall bearers were Messrs. Charles Barry, Kenneth Barry, Glen Ernst, Wilfred Oickle, Francis Langille, and Whidden Ernst. Interment was at Christ Church Cemetery.

MAUGHAN, Elsie Mae - 76, Lower Branch, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, with her family by her side. Born in Maplewood, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nina (Wentzell) Veinot. She was wife and business partner of Walter Maughan of Maughan's Construction, Lower Branch. Surviving are her husband, Walter; daughters, Anna Maughan (Pat Burke), Hebbville; Gail Maughan (Laurie Beck), Lower Branch; sons, Vernon (Monica) Maughan, Dayspring; one of Bridgewater, one of Branch LaHave; sisters, Ruby Ferguson, East Dalhousie; Lois Turner, Forties; Jean Webber, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Tyler Drennan, Nicole Brown (Darren Mulock), Rachel Brown, Colby Maughan, Erin Maughan (Ryan Dobson), Cory Maughan; three other grandsons; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son, Gordon; grandson, Glen; sisters, Annie Joudrey, Ruth Meisner, Irene Collicutt, Susie Dauphinee; brother, Maynard Veinot. Visitation for family and friends, 7-9 p.m., Friday in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, where funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, with special family friend, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. No flowers by request, donations to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or charity of choice.

Mr. Stephen Rafuse 1912 Progress Enterprise
On Sunday, February 25, Mr. .Stephen Rafuse passed away at his home in Parkdale. He had reached the age of seventy-one. He was born at North West in 1840, the youngest of eight brothers of whom only three now survive. At the age of fifteen he came with his parents to Parkdale, then called Foster Settlement. Here he afterward took up a farm on which he spent his remaining years. Mr.Rafuse was twice married, first to Elisabeth Barkhouse by whom he had seven children. Of these two only survive him. His second wife was Mary Cecelia Foster who survives him. Of this union were born six children, five of whom survive. Mr. Rafuse was a devoted member of the New Germany Baptist Church. He was baptized thirty-five years ago by the late Rev. W.E. Hall. He was a man of strong faith, upright character, and blameless life. He was a good citizen, a liberal in politics, and a friend to all. His fuenral was largely attended, and was conducted by his pastor, Rev. D.H. Simpson, who spoke from Rev. 14:18.

John P. Veinotte of Dalhousie died April 27, aged 79 years. The funeral service was held in St. Cyprian's Church by Rev. P.G. Corbin. A large congregation was in attendance. Mr. Veinot was one of the founders of the church in Dalhousie.
He is survived by his widow; two brothers, Enos and William of New Germany; six sons, the youngest living at home: Steward and Dennis of Dalhousie; Colin in the West; Lewis and Asoph in Massahcusetts; four daughters: Mrs. Simon Barkhouse, Tremont; Mrs.Sullivan, Berwick; Mrs. Daniel Lonergan, and Mrs. Chas. Lowe, Aylesford Road.

Mrs. Lamina Elizabeth Veinot
The death of Mrs. Lamina Elizabeth, widow of the late Enos Veinot of Lower Northfield, occurred at the home of her sons, Mr. and Mrs. Enos and Lancelot Veinot, Second Peninsula, on November 26, where she had been confined to her bed for the past nine months. Born at Maitland some 90 years ago, she was a daughter of the late David and Catherine Barry and the last member of a large family. Following her marriage, she moved to Lower Northfield, where together they made a home for their family of 11 children, six of whom predeceased her ;also a grandson, whom she tenderly cared for from childhood and met death sudden death some years ago. Her husband predeceased her ten years ago. The body reposed at Sweeny's Funeral Parlour, Lunenburg, and the funeral was held at 2 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, from Christ Anglican Church, Maitland.The simple but impressive burial service was conducted by Rural Dean Rev.G.A. Arnold, Mahone Bay. The hymns sung were "Peace, Perfect Peace, " "Now the Labourer's Task is O'er, " and "There is no Night in Heaven." Interment took place in the family lot. Pall-bearers were Charles Barry, Roy Barry, Winfred Barry, and Ralph Barry. Surviving are two sons, Enos and Lancelot, Second Peninsula; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Howard, Dunellen, New Jersey; Zipporah (Mrs. Allie Jodrey), Lower Northfield, both of whom helped care for their mother during her illness; Ivy (Mrs. Mansel Barry), Seaconk, Massachusetts; also 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

MEISNER, Myra Ruth - 79, New Germany, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2005, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Maplewood, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nina (Wentzell) Veinot. In her earlier years, she was a school teacher, having taught in Scarsdale. Later, she married Carmon and together they worked in the family business, Meisner Brothers Poultry Farm. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany where she was a past member of the ladies auxiliary. Ruth enjoyed traveling, camping, cooking, gardening, painting, and her special granddaughters. Surviving are her sons, Orval (Julie), South Brookfield; Faron (Lisa), Coldbrook; grandchildren, Chelsea, Emily, Lynsey, Lauren; sisters, Susie Dauphinee, Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown; Irene Collicutt, Canaan; Lois Turner, Forties; Ruby (Sidney) Ferguson, East Dalhousie; Jean (Franklin) Webber, Dartmouth; Elsie (Walter) Maughn, Lower Branch; many nieces and nephews. She was recently predeceased by her husband, Carmon, on May 15; an infant son; sister, Annie Joudrey; brother, Maynard Veinot. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Memorial service 2 p.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany, Rev. Larry Ehrhardt officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Immediate family flowers only. Donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Lung Association of Nova Scotia. We, the family would like to thank the personal caregivers for the comfort, care and dedication shown during Mom's sickness and especially during the past few days, to Karen and Tony for the their loyal and loving dedication shown towards both Mom and Dad, and to a special niece Monica for her love and support during Mom's days in the hospital.

Mrs. Mary Cecelia Rafuse 1946 Bridgewater Bulletin
In the early hours of February 16, there passed to her eternal rest, Mrs. Mary Cecelia Rafuse, widow of the late Stephen Rafuse, at the home of her son, Richmond, at the age of 89 years and 9 months. Mrs. Rafuse had been in poor health for about two years, but the end came quite suddenly.
She was the oldest resident of Parkdale, daughter of the late Avard and Harriet Ann (Millberry) Foster- the Fosters being the first settlers of Foster Settlement, now Parkdale and Maplewood.
The late Mrs. Rafuse was a woman of sterling Christian character, always attending church services as long as health permitted. She was a charter member of the U.B.W.M.U., and a life-long member. For many years she taught a S. class and seldom missed a church service of any kind. She was always ready and willing to help in time of sickness and many benefited from her kindly acts.
Her husband predeceased her 34 years ago. She was the mother of seven children, a daughter, Millie May, died at the age of 18 months, the other surviving children are Alonzo and Ashley, Rumford, Maine; Elgin, Dixfield, Maine; Evan, Somersworth, New Hampshire; and Guy and Richmond, at Parkdale. A brother, Adelbert Foster, Auburndale, Mass., also survives, also 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who mourn the loss of a loving mother and grandmother.
The funeral service was held at the church on Monday afternoon, February 18, conducted by her pastor, Rev.H.S. Hartlin. The text was chosen by the deceased and marked in her Bible many years ago, the Third Epistle of John, verse 4, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." Hymns sung were "The Old Rugged Cross, " "Saved by Grace, " and "God Be With You." Pall-bearers were the sons, Guy and Richmond, grandsons, Hollis, Harvey and Raymond Rafuse, and Frank Rafuse. Interment was in the family lot, beside her husband.
