RAFUSE, Neil James (Chub) - 68, Chester, died December 2, 1997, at home. Born in Chester, he was a son of the late William Joshua and Elsie Abegail (Rafuse) Rafuse. He was a member of the Merchant Marine Reserve, and member of Royal Canadian Legion, Butler Branch 44, Chester. He was a driver for the Department of National Defence, Mill Cove, and a commissionaire at Canexel, East River. Surviving are his wife, the former Rena Marie Reeves; daughters, Karen and husband Kirk Boutilier, Chester; Teresa and husband Rudolph Stevens, Tancook Island; Sheila Norwood, Chester; Marie and husband Stanley Boutilier, St. Margarets Bay; sons, Billy and wife Leta, Greg and wife Elaine, Forbes and wife Maureen, all of Chester, Harold and wife Lee, Farmington, Lunenburg Co.; sister, Betty (Mrs. David Baker), East Chester; grandchildren, Alana, Shawn, James, Ryan, Shannon, Amy, Gary, Amanda, Sarah and Melissa Rafuse, David, Jonathan and Shayne Boutilier, Jessica Norwood. Isabel Alma Rafuse, 88, Shoreham Village Nursing Home, Chester, formerly of Chester, died December 16, 1993, in the home. Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late John and Vernie (Seaboyer) Schnare. She was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church Choir and Ladies Guild. She is survived by three sons, Leonard, Allan, both of Chester; Clayton, Windsor Road, Lunenburg County; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. John Nauss), East River; Marion (Mrs. James Whitman), Upper Granville; two brothers, Clarence, Chester; Lawrence, Halifax; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Frederick; two sons, Clarence, Frederick; daughter, Brenda; a grandson. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Rev.Kerry Bourke officiating. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. VEINOT, Letitia Naomi - 99, Blockhouse, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 16, 2005, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Letitia was born December 17, 1905, and lived her entire life in Blockhouse, the daughter of the late Enos and Alice (Ernst) Langille. She was a faithful member of St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, where over the years she was a member of the Blockhouse Guild and the Women's Institute. Her love of life, family, friends and the community at large, were so important to her. Letitia's quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humour will be carried forward by those who knew and loved her. She was a golden thread of love spun invisibly through all our hearts and lives. She is survived by her daughter, Viola and her husband Walter Scott, Oviedo, Fla.; brother, Orbin Langille, Blockhouse; grandchildren, Donald Eikle (Joan), Pine Grove; Deborah Thompson (Ron), Lapland; Bonnie Hirtle (Alan), Oviedo, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Brandi, Gregory, Clayton, Eric and Patrick, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; daughter, Beulah and husband Webster Eikle; sisters, Clara, Emily, Effie, Elva, Lottie and Charlotte, and brothers, Ozem, Allen, Orin, Lawrence and Robie. WHITMAN, Marion Marie - 77, Upper Granville, Annapolis Co., passed away December 4, 2004, after a lengthy illness at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Isabelle (Schnare) Rafuse. Marion enjoyed playing cribbage, bingo and knitting. She was very well-known for her pickles and preserves. She is survived by her husband, James "Jim"; daughters, Carol (Rodney) Halliday, Clarence; Ann (Leonard) McGraw, Welland, Ont.; Marilyn McGraw, Saint John, N.B.; sons, Larry and Harold, Grand Manan; stepdaughters, Barbara (Walter) Thompson, Lawrencetown; Donna (Richard) Wightman, Alberton, P.E.I.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brothers, Clayton (Lila), Windsor Road; Allan (Doris), Chester; sister, Maryann (John) Nauss, East River. She was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Marshall; son, Tony; infant son, Raymond; infant daughter, Joan; sister, Brenda Eisner; brothers, Clarence and an infant brother Frederick. OIKLE (Veinotte), Gertrude Lyle - 95, Nesconset, N.Y., died August 2, 1996, in Nesconset. Born at Dalhousie Road, Kings Co., she was the oldest child of the late James and Georgina (Gray) Veinotte. She, with her husband and two children, moved to New York state in 1926, and lived nearly 70 years in Smithtown, N.Y. Surviving are daughter, Edith (Mrs. Charles Buckheit), Smithtown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Lona Henley, Granville Ferry, Annapolis Co.; Elaine Daniels, Cataumet, Mass.; brother, Ronald, Pickering, Ont.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ettney; son, Louis; daughter, Madeline; a grandson; brothers, Everett, Ethan, Harold, Loraine, DeWayne. Funeral was held August 5 in Hawkins and Davis Funeral Home, Smithtown. Burial was in Hauppauge Rural Cemetery.
Enos J. Veinot 1939 Bridgewater Bulletin
The passing away of Enos J. Veinot at his home on Friday, May 19, removes a highly esteemed and eldest resident of our community. Although in failing health for the past few months, his death was not so soon expected. Born at Lower Northfield 85 years ago, he was the son of the late Isaac Veinot, and the last member of that family. Mr. Veinot moved to Watford over fifty years ago, and for several years he lived in Millville, Kings County, coming back home thirteen years ago. He lived with his only son, Sanford, and during his illness he was tenderly
cared for by his granddaughter, Goldie. He will be sadly missed in the home and neighbourhood in which he lived.
He was laid to rest on Sunday inthe cemetery at New Germany. Service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Clinton Veinot, at the house, church, and grave. A large number of friends and relatives followed his remains to the last resting place.
TUPPER, Allison Murray - 67, Factorydale, Kings County, died March 16, 1993, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lake George, Kings County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ella (Joudrey) Tupper. He spent his working years as a woodsman, lumberman and carpenter. He is survived by his wife, the former Daphne Veinotte; two daughters, Wendy (Mrs. Richard Palmer), Susan (Mrs. Gary Hiltz), both of Morristown, Kings County; three brothers, Arthur, Edmonton; Freddie, Roger, both of Aylesford; six sisters, Marjorie (Mrs. Paul Robar), Lake Paul; Ruth (Mrs. Tom Spence), Marilyn (Mrs. John Wilson), Linda (Mrs. David Bowlby), Gail Jones, Joan (Mrs. Dale Thomas), all of Aylesford; two grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Mylon, Lawrence. The body is in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 3 p.m Friday in Morristown Baptist Church, Rev. Lionel Moriah officiating. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery. Family flowers only. G. Cornelius Wentzel 1939
The death of Cornelius Wentzel occurred at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater, on Friday morning, May 19, 1939. The deceased was eighty-four years of age and resided practically all his life at Maplewood. He is survived by his wife; two sons, George and Lloyd; and an aged sister, Zeporah; a son, Martin, predeceased him in 1927. Mr. Wentzel or "Uncle Nealy", as he was called by a host of friends, was a highly respected citizen in the community. Of a generous nature, he was noted for his kind hospitality and friends and strangers were always made welcome at his home. He was a faithful attendant at church and Sunday School and was ever ready to give staunch support to all good causes.An enterprising farmer, he was very active in all his work until a year ago, when he had the misfortune to fall and break his hip. This affliction was borne with great fortitude and courage. He recovered from this injury and was able, with the help of a crutch, to walk about his home and yard. A week ago, he was stricken with a severe illness and rushed to the hospital at Bridgewater, where he underwent a serious operation from which he failed to recover.
The funeral was held on Sunday, May 21, and the large attendance testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. The service was conducted by Rev. C.W. Corey, assisted by Dr. Simeon Spidle of Mahone Bay, who rendered a beautiful and comforting message fro mthe text: "To Die is Gain". The hymns were "Yield Not to Temptation, " "Rock of Ages, " "My Jeus, I Love Thee, " and "Abide With Me."
Louis L. Oikle, 57, of Lake Ronkonkoma, a former Smithtown resident since 1926, died December 16, 1976 at Smithtown General Hospital. He was born in Nova Scotia, May 29, 1919, and was a storekeeper at the Northport Veterans Hospital.
Mr. Oikle served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He received the American Defense Service Medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, the good conduct medal with bronze service arrowhead. He was a member of the James Ely Miller American Legion Post,
Smithtown. His wife, Olga (Bodell) Oikle and his sister, Madeline O. (Mrs. Adam Schubert) predeceased him.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. .and Mrs. Ettney E. Oikle of Hauppauge; a sister, Edith (Mrs. Charles J. ) Buckheit of Smithtown; two nieces and five nephews.
Prayer services were held December 19 at R.B. Hawkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Wilbert T. Bradley, pastor of the Hauppauge United Methodist Church conducted funeral service December 20. Burial took place in Long Island
National Cemetery, Pinelawn.
Mrs. Ada Barbara Joudrey, 92 of 7 Malloy Ave Gorham N.H. passed away Tues, Feb 10, 1976 at the Mercy Hospital in Portland Maine. She was born in New Cornwall Nova Scotia, June 1 1883, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Eisenhauer) Veinotte and had lived in Berlin - Gorham area for the past 64 years; the last five years residing with her daughter, Marna in Gorham N.H. The three months prior to her death she resided with her daughter Myrtle in Gorham Maine. Mrs. Joudrey was a member of the Gorham Methodist Church. Members of the family include two sons, Linnis Joudrey and Alton Joudrey both of Gorham N.H., two daughters Mrs. Clarence (Myrtle) Smith of Gorham Maine and Miss Merna Joudrey of Gorham, N.H. four grandchildren, seven great--grandchildren, neices and nephews and cousins. Funeral service was held Friday at 2 P.M. at the Parker and Holmes Funeral Home 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin with interment in the Lary Cemetery in Gorham, N.H. Rev. Bullens, pastor of Gorham Main Methodist Church officiated. Pallbearers were Kenneth Joudrey, Ronald Viouin, Robert Ross and Harold Andrews. Contributions to be in her name of the charity of their choice.
ZINCK, Donald Clyde - 74, Lake Pleasant, Annapolis Co., passed away in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, December 31, 2004. Born in Lake Pleasant, he was the youngest son of the late Wilbert and Gertrude (Acker) Zinck. He was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae (Oickle); daughters, Katherine (Gordon) Daniels, Cherry Field; Dianne (Arnold) Wessell, Chelsea; son, Gary (Marilyn), North River; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; brother, Oran, New Germany; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Damie Pearl, Audrey Mailman and Violet Veinot; brother, Lamont; half-brother, Perry Acker. Funeral service will be held in Springfield Baptist Church 11 a.m. today, Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery. ACKER, Leroy Harris - 85, Lawrencetown, died October 25, 2003, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Lake Pleasant, he was a son of the late Ezekiel and Radie (Woodworth) Acker. He was wounded while serving with the Canadian Army overseas during the Second World War. Surviving are sisters, Gladys Pelton, Wolfville; Roxie (Joe) Ryan, Dartmouth; Betty Deveau, Lake Echo; Marion Baker, Gulliver's Cove. He was predeceased by brothers, Harry, Bill and Bobby; sisters, Nina, Nellie, Mildred, Eileen, Dorothy, Marjorie and Fannie. Visiting 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lawrencetown Baptist Church, Rev. Tom McGaw officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society.
BEST, Laurence S. — 80, died December 23, 2010, in The Windsor Elms after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body disease. Laurence spent his life as a principal and math teacher for 35 years in various parts of Canada, ending his career with the last 15 years at North River Elementary School near Truro. He graduated from Acadia in 1958 and was an avid Acadia supporter throughout his life. Laurence loved to do crossword puzzles, read, garden and follow his Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the man with the Tilley hat walking wherever he lived at the time. Laurence leaves behind his wife of almost 46 years, Crystal (Smith); and the family he loved, daughter, Jennifer (Dan) Jennings, Lower Sackville; son, Bill (Fay) Best, Fredericton. He will be forever missed by his beloved grandchildren, Gillian, Bryan and Laura Jennings, and Aidan, Maria and Annika Best. Also survived by his sisters, Madelyn Best and Francis O’Connell. He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Ruth Best. The family would like to thank The Windsor Elms staff for the wonderful care Laurence received during the past two and a half years. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Dartmouth Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at 11 a.m. in Knox United Church, 567 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. WYNOT (Whynot) Clarence Murdock - 98, East Falmouth, Mass., formerly of Wellesley Hills, Mass., died November 21, 2000. Born February 23, 1902, in New Albany, Annapolis Co., he was the last surviving member of the family of William James and Bessie Mae (Acker) Whynot (New Albany). He moved to Massachusetts as a young man where he worked in the general Boston area in house construction, at the Boston Navy Yard during the Second World War, and later after the war with the Raytheron Company from which he retired. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Ann MacLean, (Port Hastings); brothers, Atwood Roy Wynot, (Framingham, Mass.); Seymore Morse Whynot, (New Albany); sisters, Elsie May (Whynot) Spurr, (Round Hill); Ruth Marion (Whynot) Best, (Truro). Funeral was held November 26 in St. Mary Episcopal Church, Newton Lower Falls. Burial in church cemetery.
