Mrs. Devilla Barry 1942 Bridgewater Bulletin
The funeral service for Mrs. Devilla Barry, 59 years, wife of the late Joseph Barry, who died Friday, October 16 th., in the Winnipeg General Hospital, was held Tuesday afternoon, October 20th., at 2:00 o'clock in the Clark-Leatherdale Funeral Home with burial in St.Vital Cemetery. Canon G.R. Calvert of St. Matthew's Anglican Church officiated. Her husband predeceased her five years ago. Born in Maitland, Nova Scotia, she came west thirty-four years ago, first residing in Toronto. With her husband they farmed at Waskada and Malinak, Manitoba, finally settling at Grande Pointe.
Surviving are two children, a daughter, Joyce; and a son, Donald; two sisters, Mrs. William Ernst, Blockhouse, Nova Scotia; and Mrs. Compton of Toronto.

Mrs. William A. S. Ernst - The community of Blockhouse was saddened when learning of the call to higher service of Mrs. William Ernst, 89. Death came on Friday, May 2 1975, in the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, where she had been a patient for several weeks. Born in Maitland, Lunenburg County, November 1885, Effie Florence Veinot was the daughter of Hibbert and Louisa Veinot, by whom she was predeceased.
Following her marriage more than seventy-one years ago, she came to live at the Ernst home and remained on their Century Farm where she and Mr. Ernst celebrated their seventy- first wedding anniversary on December 31, 1974. Mrs. Ernst was a devout member of St. James Anglican Church which she attended regularly until uncertain health curtailed her activities.
She will be sorely missed by her husband to whom she was devoted, as well as her sons and daughters who will treasure the memory of a mother whose strong personality helped them over their character forming years. Surviving, besides her husband, are Evan, Lexington, Mass; Arnold, Mahone Bay; Edward, Wenham, Mass; Henry, Calgary, Alberta; Wendell, Halifax; Homer, Blockhouse; Myrtle (Mrs. Don Purdy), Liverpool; Isabelle (Mrs. Lloyd Lohnes), Blockhouse; and a sister Lilla Veinot, Maitland. There are also 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ernst was predeceased by her parents; also sons Harry and Fenwick; sisters Ellen and Divilla; a brother Jason; and a granddaughter Beryl.
The deceased rested at the Mahone Funeral Home until Monday morning when she was taken to St. James Church where the funeral service was held at 11 o'clock. The officiating clergyman was the Rector Rev. W E Dye, assisted by Ven C R Elliott, Liverpool. The church organist, Gertie Smeltzer, and choir led in the singing of "The King of Love" and "The Strife is O'er". Serving as pall bearers were five sons and a son-in-law, Arnold Ernst, Edward Ernst, Henry Ernst, Wendell Ernst, Homer Ernst, and Don Purdy.

WARD, Lawrence Elwood (Larry) - 35, Red Deer, Alta., died October 11, 1993, in Red Deer Regional Hospital. Born in Berwick, Kings County, he was a son of Thelma (Hines) Ward, Berwick and the late Elwood Ward. He was employed with Flint Engineering and Construction Ltd., Stettler, Alta. since 1988. He is survived by two sisters, Patricia (Mrs. Rodney Richie), Auburn; Carol Wambolt, Berwick; two nieces; two nephews; a grandniece. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald, Wendell in infancy. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, where funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Eustace Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Aylesford Union Cemetery. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

GRAFTON - Alfred Veinotte 72, West Stedman Road Grafton died Sunday 02 Dec, 1973 at home. Born in Waterville, he was a son of the late Arthur and Ada (Veinotte) Veinotte. He was predeceased by his first wife the former Blanche Murphy and two daughters. He is survived by three sons Arthur, Harborville, George, Shaw Road, John, West Stedman Road five stepsons, Beverly Acker, New Ross, Carroll and Albert Bezanson Dalhousie, Nelson and James Bezanson, Lake Paul five daughters, Jean (Mrs. Kenneth Pelton) and Beatrice (Mrs. Chester Pelton), both of Waterville, Joyce (Mrs. Charles Rawding) Ontario, Mary (Mrs. Donald Sproule) Aylesford, Irene (Mrs. Blaze McPherson) Gagetown, six stepdaughters, Louise (Mrs. Donald Parent) Ontario, Bertha (Mrs. Otis Veinot). Lunenburg, Etta Bezanson, Waterville, Elizabeth (Mrs. Clayton Joudrey) Lake Paul, Beatrice (Mrs. Howard Arenburg) South Waterville; Elsie (Mrs. Ross Hutchinson) Ontario, one brother Wilbert, Nictaux; two sisters Irene (Mrs. Eddie Cofflin) and Leona, Mrs. Charles Cinnamon) both in U.S.A. 22 grandchildren and 17 step-grandchildren. The body is at H.C.Lindsay Funeral Home, Berwick where funeral service will be held Thursday at 2.30 p.m. Rev. Max Clattenburg will officiate. Interment will be in Berwick Cemetery..

PELTON, Jean Isabelle - 69, Waterville, Kings Co., died August 5, 1998, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Grafton, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Blanche (Murphy) Veinotte. She worked at M.W. Graves for many years. She enjoyed yard sales and flea markets. Surviving are sons, Donald, Sterling, Waterville; daughters, Louise (Mrs. Sam Dalton), Brampton, Ont.; Linda Haggerty, Berwick; Sharon (Mrs. Russell Bent), Waterville; Shirley (Mrs. David Ritchie), Auburn; brothers, Arthur, Garland; John, Saw Road; sisters, Joyce (Mrs. Charlie Rawding), Huntsville, Ont.; Irene (Mrs. Blaise McPherson), Oromocto, N.B.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Albert; son, Albert; brother, George; sisters, Beatrice Pelton; Mary Sproule; grandson, Bruce Pelton. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday, funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, both in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, Rev. Ralph Lepore officiating. Burial in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Kings County VON.

BAKER, David Lloyd George - 75, East Chester, formerly of Dartmouth and Lower Clarence, Bridgetown, passed away peacefully September 12, 1998, at home. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Harold O'C and Edith (Barss) Baker, Dartmouth. David served in the Canadian Merchant Navy from 1939-1946. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1984 after serving 26 years as an engineer. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Dartmouth. David was the beloved husband of Betty Rafuse. Loving father to daughter, Ann, East Chester; sons, David and wife Lynda, Richard and wife Sandra, James and wife Annette, all of Lower Clarence, Bridgetown; grandchildren, David, Dean, Richard, Paul, Jennifer, Lisa, Kimberley and Gillian; great-grandchildren, Julia and Kaleb; step-grandchildren, Dwayne and Sean. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara J. White. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, funeral service 1 p.m. Thursday, both in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. MASS. WOMAN DIES AT THE AGE OF 109
WOLLASTON, Mass., April 3 - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lohnes died last night at the age of 109.
She was born in New Germany, Nova Scotia, of old Plymouth Pilgrim stock.
She was married to Elkanah Lohnes at 17 in 1857 and lived in Nova Scotia until his death in 1904.
Her health was good until four years ago when she suffered a shock. She had said she lived a long life because:
"I've always worked hard and I don't smoke, drink, or go to dances."
Only two of her eight children are still living.
She also leaves 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

HENLEY, Lona Madeline - 84, Lake May, Annapolis Co., died February 18, 1999, in Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. Born in East Dalhousie, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late James and Georgia Veinotte. She was a retired school teacher having taught in various communities in Nova Scotia. She was a member of Northfield United Baptist Church. Surviving are daughter, Glendean (Mrs. Bruce Gates), South Milford; son, Kenneth, Lawrencetown; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Daniels, Cape Cod, Mass.; brother, Ronald, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; son, Ronald; sister, Gertie; brothers, Dwayne, Ethan, Everett, Lorraine. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, both in Robert L. Hall Funeral Home and chapel, Annapolis Royal, Rev. Mark Shaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or any charity.

Lydia Varner
New Germany, Nov. 5 - There passed away at an early hour this morning at her home here, one of the oldest residents of the place in the person of Lydia, widow of Elias Varner, at the age of eighty-three years. Deceased was the daughter of the late Henry and Mrs. Feindel, New Germany, the former being brother to George Feindel, the first white child born in this place. In her immediate family, she is survived by brothers, Hezekiah, United States, and William and Obediah Feindel of New Germany, and by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Lohnes, Worcester, Mass. There are left also sons - Uriah, Dochester, Mass.; Charles, Kenneth, Henry, Obediah and Joshua, New Germany; and two daughters; Mrs. John Stuart, Milton, Mass.; and Mrs. Alvin Gates Stanburne. Her husband died in 1894, and as a widow, with nine children, she had given a life of service to the family, the community and the public at large. For many years she conducted a boarding house, open at all hours to accommodate all who came. No one was ever turned away on account of not possessing the price necessary to pay for a meal or a night's lodging. She was ever active in the affairs of the Anglican Church and in everything that pertained to the welfare of the community.

Hezekiah Feindel 1941
New Germany, November 12- Word has been received here by relatives of the death of Hezekiah Feindel who died recently in Milton, Mass. The deceased was born here 87 years ago, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Feindel.
He spent the first forty years of his life here. He comes from a long lived family. His sister, Mrs. Elkanah Lohnes, who is over one hundred years of age is living in Milton, Mass., and Obed Feindel, an aged resident of New Germany, is a brother. His widow was formerly Miss Ellen Leary of Dayspring. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Leary. A daughter, Ida, also survives and resides in Milton, Mass. Mrs. Ford Feindel of New Germany is a niece of the deceased, and Obed Varner, a nephew.
Interment was made at Milton.
