He was a truck driver and later a rural mail driver. He was a member of St. Augustine's Anglican Church, The Forties, and Norwood Lodge 135, New Ross. Surviving are his wife, the former Lois Veinot; daughter, Joy (Mrs. Robert Meister), The Forties; three grandsons; brother, Norward, Aylesford; sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Edward Hiltz), Fraxville; Leitha (Mrs. George Jones), South Alton. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth; brothers, Wallace, Walter, Lester. Visitation 7-9 p.m. tonight, lodge meeting 8 p.m. tonight, both in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Augustine's Anglican Church, The Forties, Rev. Gordon Neish officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. VEINOTTE, Ervin O. - 85, Maitland, Lunenburg County, died August 5, 1993, in Armview Estates, Halifax. Born in Upper Cornwall, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Austin and Alice (Daniels) Veinotte. He is survived by two daughters, Rosalie (Mrs. Aubrey Spidle), Mahone Bay; Ferne Marlene (Mrs. Horst Leimbach), Halifax; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Chandler, Milton, Queens County; Mrs. Lillian Joudrey, Upper Cornwall; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lola, Gertie, Hazel; four brothers, Lester, Vernon, Laurie, Lloyd. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in the United Baptist Church, New Cornwall, Dr. M. Allen Gibson officiating. Burial will be in New Cornwall Memorial Garden Cemetery. Family flowers only by request. JOUDREY, Lillian Marguerite - 98, Upper New Cornwall, passed away July 28, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper New Cornwall, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Alice (Daniels) Veinotte. The door to her home was always open, providing a hearty meal whenever company arrived. She dearly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed sharing stories with them about her youth. She also enjoyed hearing a funny story and having a good laugh. Even with declining health she remained faithful to her church and will be missed by her many friends. She is survived by daughters, Isabel (Noble) Veinot, Bridgewater; Cheryl (Dwight) Wyman, Hubley; son, Donald (Bonnie) Joudrey, Upper New Cornwall; her sister, at 103 years of age, Bessie Chandler, Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay; grandchildren, Glenwood Veinot, Allan Veinot, Debra Pond; Kathy Maughan, Shelley Ivany, Natalie Wyman, Alex Joudrey; 14 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; son, Lloyd; sisters, Lola, Gertrude and Hazel; brothers, Lester, Vernon, Laurie, Lloyd, and Ervin. Visiting will be 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in New Cornwall United Baptist Church, Middle New Cornwall, Rev. Douglas Porter officiating, assisted by Rev. Lloyd Gillieo. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family flowers only please. RAFUSE, Gertrude Christena - 83, Chester, died January 5, 2008, in Shoreham Village Home, Chester. Born in South West Margaree, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Hugh John and Margaret (Coady) Gillis. She had been a faithful member of Saint Augustine's Catholic Church, Chester, for all her married life and a resident at Shoreham Village Home for over the past five years. Gertrude is survived by her son, Leonard, Chester; daughter, Margaret (Wayne) Nauss, Hubbards; granddaughters, Angela (Kerstin) DeLong, Bridgewater; Lori (Dave) Worrell, Tantallon; Wendy Rafuse (Steve), Beechville; great-grandson, Jacob, and great-granddaughter, Jordan DeLong; sisters, Alice Callahan, Antigonish; Isabelle Cruickshank, Dartmouth; brother, Frank (Rose) Gillis, Smithers, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband, John Leonard Rafuse Sr.; daughter-in-law, Daphne Rafuse; brothers, John, Loyola, Peter, Moses, Alex, and Bernard; sisters, Annie Mae and Anne. Visitation will be 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday in Saint Augustine's Catholic Church with Father Eric Theriault officiating. Burial in Bayview Cemetery. Following the interment a reception will be held in Saint Anthony's Parish Hall, Hubbards. Family flowers only. VEINOTTE, Percy Vernon - 86, Middle Cornwall, Lunenburg Co., died April 3, 2000, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Cornwall, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Wilbert and Gertrude (Veinotte) Veinotte. He was a member of the Cornwall United Baptist Church and past Deacon and choir member. He was a former 4-H leader for many years. Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Aulenback; son, Elwood and wife Cindy, Middle Cornwall; brothers, Claude, Berwick; Billy, Edmonton; sisters, Daisy Gray, Memphis, Tenn.; Evelyn Whynot, Liverpool; Phyllis Wentzell, Parkdale; Lola (Mrs. Earl Zinck), Maplewood; grandsons, James and Matthew; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Elwood and Perry. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, in Cornwall United Baptist Church, Rev. ZINCK, Paul John Samuel - 81, Maplewood, Lunenburg Co., passed away Monday, March 18, 2002, at home. Born in Maplewood, he was a son of the late John and Mary Ellen (Slaunewhite) Zinck. In his earlier years he was a woodsman and also worked as a mechanic for Lohnes and Zwicker Massey Ferguson Tractors, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed working on his home farm and was an active snowmobile enthusiast during the earlier years of its introduction. He was a member of Parkdale Maplewood Emmanuel Baptist Church and was also a member of the IOOF, Parkdale Maplewood. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Lola Veinotte; daughter, Donna (Gary) Penney, Upper Northfield; sons, Chester, at home; Richard (Patricia), Maplewood; five grandsons; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Ella Sperry, Pearl Francis, Nellie Robar, Grace Wentzell; brothers, Alvin, Perley. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. this evening in New Germany Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany, where an IOOF tribute service will be at 7 p.m. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday in Parkdale Maplewood Emmanuel Baptist Church, Rev. Vaughn Henshaw and Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Interment will follow in Parkdale Community Cemetery. Mrs. John Conrad - Mount Pleasant - Mrs. John Conrad, 70, died Saturday at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper LaHave, the former Ella Beck, she was a daughter of the late Israel and Amelia (Veniot) Beck. She is survived by one daughter Phyllis (Mrs. Clifford Rafuse), Bridgewater; one foster son Maurice Tanner, Mount Pleasant; one foster daughter Wendy (Mrs. David Corkum), Lake Centre; one brother Lawrence, Whynot Settlement; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John, one sister and two brothers. The body is resting at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, Rev. James Hicks officiating. Interment at Mount Pleasant family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart Foundation or any charitable organization. Daisy (Veinotte) Gray, 89, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home in Memphis, January 18, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Born in Upper New Cornwall, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Gertrude Veinotte. Surviving are her sisters Phyllis Wentzell, Parkdale; Lola Zinck, Maplewood, N.S.; also brothers Claude (Ethel) Veinotte, Berwick, N.S. and Merlyn (Doreen) Veinotte, Edmonton, Alberta; also, sisters-in-law Connie Veinotte, Clearland and Grace Veinotte, Mahone Bay, N.S. Also surviving are two aged aunts, Bessie Chandler, Milton, N.S. and Lillian Joudrey, Upper Cornwall, also many nieces, nephews and cousins in Nova Scotia and Cape Cod, Mass. Daisy was predeceased by her husband, Everette Scott Gray, Memphis; sister Evelyn Whynot, Liverpool; brothers Percy Veinotte, Upper Cornwall and Perry Veinotte, Clearland. Burial of her ashes will be in Rhode Island, Mass. beside those of her husband.

VEINOTTE, Claude Russell — It is with great sadness in our hearts that the family of Claude Russell Veinotte announces his passing on Sunday, August 9, 2009, in his 91st. year in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax, formerly of Berwick, Kings Co. He leaves his wife of 61 years and long-time love and best friend, Ethel (Corkum) Veinotte, Hammonds Plains, formerly of Berwick. Claude was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in Canada and overseas in England for a total of six years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick, and the Berwick United Church. Claude was very proud of his children, daughters, Mona (Robert) Wallace, Berwick; Marilyn (Bradley) Wagner, Harmony; Darlene (Tom Gill) Veinotte, Hammonds Plains; son, Phillip (Ann Broughm) Veinotte, Halifax. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Heather Harris; Cristopher and Michel Shirritt; Erin, Alyson and Robert Veinotte; Krista Leavitt; Reid, Mitchell and Jacob Wagner. His eight great-grandchildren were also fortunate to share in his love, Mackenzie and Kamryn Bennett; Ashley and Ryan Harris; Andrew and Ava Shirritt; Isaac and Tatum Leavitt. Also surviving are sisters, Lola Zinck, Barss Corner; Phyllis Wentzell, Parkdale; brother, Merlin "Billy" Veinotte, Edmonton, Alta.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Claude was predeceased by his parents, Wilbert and Gertrude (Veinot) Veinotte, (of Middle Cornwall, Lunenburg Co.); brothers, Elwood in infancy, Percy and Perry Veinotte; sisters, Daisy Gray; Evelyn Whynott; brothers-in-law, Paul Zinck; Earl Wentzell; Hank Whynott; Scotty Gray; sister-in-law, Grace Veinotte. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, by family request. Royal Canadian Legion Service and funeral service will take place 11 a.m., Thursday, August 13, in Berwick United Church, 240 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Linda Winton officiating, with burial in Berwick Cemetery. Donations in Claude's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to Lung Association of Nova Scotia. VEINOT, Maynard William - 78, Maplewood, Lunenburg Co., died January 2, 1998, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Maplewood, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Nina B. (Wentzell) Veinot. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkdale. He was a farmer for most of his life. He was a member of Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association. He was an animal control officer for the Municipality of Lunenburg for many years, and was a special ranger for the Department of Lands and Forest. He was a past member of IOOF, Parkdale Maplewood. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude Miriam Webber; daughters, June (Mrs. Mervin Rhodenizer), Miriam (Mrs. Merle Rhodenizer), Parkdale; Sharon (Mrs. Wade Carver), Union Square; Sheila (Mrs. Paul Uhlman), Italy Cross; sons, Ralph, Upper Northfield; Ivan, Scarsdale; Rex, Maplewood; sisters, Irene Collicut, Canaan; Susie Dauphinee, Middle Cornwall; Lois Turner, Forties; Ruth (Mrs. Carmen Meisner), Jean (Mrs. Franklyn Webber), New Germany; Ruby (Mrs. Sid Ferguson), East Dalhousie; Elsie (Mrs. Walter Maughan), Lower Branch; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Faye in infancy; sister, Annie Joudrey; three grandchildren. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in New Germany Funeral Home, 4895 Rte.10, New Germany. WENTZELL, Earle LeRoy - 77, Parkdale, Lunenburg Co., died April 10, 1997, at home. Born in Parkdale, he was a son of the late Clifton Willie and Susie Mae (Foster) Wentzell. He was a member of Parkdale Maplewood Emmanuel United Baptist Church, Parkdale, past deacon and choir member. He was past member of IOOF Maple Lodge 155, Parkdale Maplewood. During his working years, he was employed as a sawyer for local mills. Surviving are his wife, the former Phyllis Amelia Veinotte; daughters, Carol (Mrs. Rodger Penney), Barss Corner; Ferne (Mrs. Jerome Fancy), Parkdale; son, Vernon, Maders Cove; brother, Royce, Scarsdale; four grandsons; a great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. Surviving are his companion, Hope Dimmell, Lower Cornwall; daughters, Joanie (Mrs. Brady Fogg), Lower Cornwall; Tina (Mrs. Danny Wile) Bridgewater; Trina Lewis, Ontario; sons Malcolm, George, at home; Leslie, Yarmouth; stepson. Claude Dimmell, Bridgewater; sisters Connie Veinotte, Clearland; Shirley (Mrs. Sidney Demone), Winnipeg; brothers, Ronald, Winnipeg; Linwood, Springfield, Annapolis Co.; Wayne, Oakhill; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was a member of United Baptist Church, Mahone; high priestess of Cairo Court Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Zephyrhills, Fla.; member of Daughters of the Nile, Halifax and Order of the Eastern Star, Bedford Branch. She is survived by a son, Bill, Fredericton; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Mitchell, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Rhodenizer, Bridgewater; Mrs. Grace Linton, Surrey, B.C.; Mrs. Myrtle Hebb, Worcester, Mass.; brother, Charles, Martins River; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harding Angus; four sisters, Shirley, Edith, Lola, Stella; four brothers, Gordon, Ernest, Perry, Stuart.
