Mrs. Laurie Veinotte Bridgewater Bulletin
The community of New Cornwall and surrounding districts were shocked and saddened early Sunday, April 7th, to hear of the sudden passing of Mrs. Laurie Veinotte. She was the youngest daughter (Clover Ruth) of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hallamore, and had she lived until April 22nd, she would have been 64 years of age. Born at New Cornwall, she lived there all her life and was a member of the United Baptist Church. Left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother are her husband; sons, Douglas, Port Williams; George, Berwick; Leeland, Berwick; Lawrence, Clarence, Margeson, and Brenton, all of New Cornwall; daughters, Mrs. Arthur Taylor (Hattie), Rockland; Mrs. Elmer Wentzell(Leola), Berwick; Mrs. Oswald Frank (Frances), Naughton, Ontario; Mrs. Stanley Dorey (Geneva), Berwick; Mrs. Milton Fan (Melba), at home. Four infants predeceased her. There are two brothers, Sanford, California; and Sidney, New Cornwall; three sisters, Margaret, Reading, Mass.; Alice, Harbourville; Phoebe, Elmwood, left to mourn the loss of a sister. The funeral service, which was largely attended by relatives and friends, was conducted from the United Baptist Church Thursday afternoon, April 11th, by her pastor, Rev. Eric Miner, who spoke words of comfort fromthe passage in St. John, "In My Father's House are Many Mansions." The hymns were "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say, " "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere, " and "Peace, Perfect Peace." The New Cornwall Church Choir was assisted by members of Mahone By Baptist Choir. Pall bearers were six sons, George, Leeland, Lawrence, Clarence, Margeson, and Brenton. Interment was in the family plot of the Baptist Cemetery.
VEINOTTE, Leeland Harlow - 82, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away Saturday October 14, 2006, in Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Lunenburg County on October 11, 1924, he was a son of the late Laurie and Clover (Hallamore) Veinotte. Leeland had worked on his uncle's farm in Colchester County for many years, worked for Howard Margeson, Berwick, owned and operated his own farm and heavy equipment business and later was a foreman for Standard Paving Ltd. He was well- known for his love of bulldozers and interest in snowmobiles. Leeland had a great interest in music, reading, people and loved his pets, Misty, Midnight and Sinders. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Ann Shaw; son, Randy (Sheila) Veinotte; daughter, Karen Veinotte, all of Berwick; grandchildren, Nakia Bedry, Calgary, Alta; Lee and Jeffrey Veinotte, Berwick; great-grandchildren, Grace and Jackson Bedry, Calgary; brothers, Lawrence (Mable), Clarence, Margeson (Beatrice) and Brenton (Shirley) Veinotte, all of Cornwall, Lunenburg Co.; sisters, Leola (Rev. Russell) Sturgeon, Berwick; Frances (Oswald) Frank, Cornwall; Geneva (Stanley) Dorey, Somerset, Kings Co.; Melba Fancy, Cornwall; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Douglas and George Veinotte; sister, Hattie Taylor. Visitation for Leeland will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, (902-538-9900), where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday October 18, Rev. Murray Shaw officiating. Burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
FRANK, Oswald Lealand - 87, of Newburne, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was a son of the late John Glenmore Frank and Leila Gertrude (Mader) Frank of Newburne. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances (Veinotte); sons, James, Alan, Edward and Hal; daughters, Merna, Minnie and Alice; his sister, Ora; brothers, Wilbur, David and Vincent. Oswald was predeceased by brothers, Oscar, Omer, John, Robert and Paul. Born on April 1, 1922 in Newburne, Lunenburg Co., he was baptized, confirmed in and attended the Church of the Transfiguration (Church of England) and studied at the school in Newburne. Oswald served Canada in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during The Second World War, after which he worked for over 35 years for Inco in Sudbury, Ont. He retired to Newburne where he spent much of his time working his wood lands and enticing the deer to feed from his hand. His body was cremated. A requiem eucharist was held for him on Friday, April 10, by his nephew, Rev. David Collins Carter, Liberal Catholic Church, at the residence of the deceased's sister in Bridgewater.
Marion Elaine Veinotte, 65, Hillside Pines Nursing Home, Bridgewater, and Middle Cornwall, Lunenburg County, died May 1, 1999, at home. Born in Walden, she was a daughter of the late William and Lydia (Zinck) Joudrey. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay. Surviving are her husband, Clarence Veinotte;daughter, Christine Veinotte, Cornwall; sons, Keith Veinotte and companion Anne, London, Ontario; Lee Veinotte and wife Shelly, Sackville;sister, Shirley Fralic, Lower Sackville; half-sister, Diane Morton, Bridgewater;brothers, George Joudrey, Barss Corner; Pearlie Joudrey, London, Ontario; half-brothers, David Joudrey, Bridgewater;Bernard Morton, Mahone Bay; grandchildren, Joey, Jill, Jamie, Kristy and Sarah Veinotte; Kent and Laurie Zwicker; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Lawrence, Stuart; half-brothers, William and Harold. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish Street, Mahone Bay. Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday in St.Mark's Lutheran Church, Cornwall, Rev. Robert Rock officiating. Burial in Cornwall Baptist Cemetery. Donations to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Wentzell: Gordon, Eldred - 93, of Newburne, Lunenburg County, died Thursday, December 26, 2002 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was the son of the late Esrom and Ida (Veinot) Wentzell. He is survived by daughters, Shirley Veinotte (Brenton) and Marilyn Moore, sons, Eldred (June) and Arol (Marilyn); 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, the former Hazel Beatrice Beck, 3 grandchildren, Wayne, Terry, Beulah; sister Lela; 5 brothers, Kenneth, Russel, Maurice, Carroll, Elwood.
Funeral services were held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Newburne at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2002. Rev. James Slack Jr. officiated. Burial was in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Newburne. Funeral directions were under Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany.
VEINOT, Pauline M. - 86, Blockhouse, Lunenburg County, died June 28, 1994, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Blockhouse, she was a daughter of the late Hibbert and Minetta (Silver) Veinot. She was a member of St. James' Anglican Church, where she was a choir member for over 65 years and was presented a plaque to commemorate this by Rt. Rev. George Arnold. She was past member of St. James vestry; past church treasurer and former Sunday school superintendent for 34 years and had been heavily involved in many aspects of church service. She had been a school teacher for 40 years, teaching at Indian Point, Blandford, Martins River, Windsor Road, Chester and the last 23 years at Lunenburg Elementary before retiring in 1969. Her 17 years of service to Anglican Young People was rewarded by life membership in AYPA. She was an executive member of Diocesan Council of Anglican Youth Camps for 20 years and director of the camps for much of this time. Her knowledge of the camp program shows in the history she wrote at the conclusion of her service. Studying painting under Mary Goodell and June Olsen, she won a proficiency certificate and for 10 years, headed the South Shore Art Group. For 10 years, she was Blockhouse correspondent for the Bridgewater Bulletin, which resulted in the column Those Were The Days. She was a member of Princess Louise Rebekah Lodge, serving as noble grand and in almost all other offices over the span of 60 years; past president of Blockhouse Women's Institute and past director of devotion for Anglican Church Women. She was affiliated with 4-H Garment Club; chaplain of Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary, Branch 49, Mahone Bay; member of Mahone Bay and Area Cancer Society and Fishermen's Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Edith, Gertrude, Ida; five brothers, Robert, Harry, George, James, John. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Mahone Funeral Home, where a lodge service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Carolyn Tomlin officiating. Burial will be in Old Blockhouse Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. James Anglican Church or any charity.

Lela Lucretia Ramey, 62, of Maplewood, died Wednesday, February 23, in Dawson Memorial Hospital. Born in Newburne, she was a daughter of the late Esrom and Ida (Veinotte) Wentzell.
She was a member of New Germany Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and belonged to the Ladies Aid. She was a past member of Rebekah Lodge, Maplewood.Surviving are her husband, Perley; a daughter, Dianne, Ottawa; a son, Nelson, Dartmouth; two brothers, Gordon, Newburne; Russell, Kentville; four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry Ramey; four brothers, Kenneth, Maurice, Carol, and Elwood.
The body is in Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St.Matthew's Lutheran Church, Newburne, Rev. Gus Gustafson officiating, with burial in Newburne Cemetery.

Sidney N. Carver, 92, New Germany, passed away Sunday, March 30, at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg.
Surviving are two daughters, Rita (Mrs. Burpee Meisner), Dartmouth; Bernice (Mrs. Bertram Milbury), Newburne; three sons, Paul of Vancouver; John of Ottawa; James of LaHave; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; also three half-brothers. He was predeceased by his wife; one daughter; and four half-brothers.
Funeral service was held at St.Matthew's Lutheran Church, Newburne on April 3. Rev.James Anderson officiated.
Interment was at the Newburne Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon Wentzell, Dick Tretheway, Arnold DeMone, and Harry Carver.
SALSMAN, Viola Lucretia - 86, Waterville, Kings Co., died December 6, 1997, in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Newburne, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late James Albert and Georgina (Veinotte) Beck. She had been employed at Waterville Can Factory for many years and was a member of Waterville United Baptist Church and the Sharon Club. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are daughter, Eleanor (Mrs. Gordon Morse), Berwick; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; sons, Rupert, Robert; daughter, Erma in infancy; brothers, Howard, Emery, Lee; sisters, Idella Carver, Millie Corkum; grandson, Tony Salsman. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday in Waterville United Baptist Church, Rev. Robert Billings officiating. Burial in Berwick Cemetery. Donations to Waterville United Baptist Church or Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville.

Walden, Lunenburg County - Funeral services for Stephen Arthemus Carver, 76, was held in St. Mark's Church, Rev. James H. Purchase officiating. Interment was in Walden Cemetery. Mr. Carver died at his home after a long illness. He was the son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (David) Carver. Surviving are his wife: 10 children: five brothers and one half-sister.
Mrs. Nina Hattie Veinot, 88, passed away at the home of her son, Richard, in New Germany, on August 10th, 1970, following a stroke of the previous week.
Born at The Ovens, Lunenburg County, she was the daughter of Josiah and Letitia Zinck. She was a member of New Germany United Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Grace (Mrs. Gordon Hampton), Winnipeg; Evelyn (Mrs.Donald Nauss), New Germany; three sons, Albert and Richard, New Germany; Joseph, Lawrencetown; and a step-sister, Mabel (Mrs. Allister Hubley), New Germany.
Funeral service was held Thursday, August 13th, at Langille's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Crooks of New Germany United Church officiating. Hymns sung were "Peace, Perfect Peace" and "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me."
The pall bearers were Crosfield Bell, Harold Veinot, Edwin Fancy, Douglas Morton, Waldo Morton, and Robert Silver. Interment was in Indian Brook Cemetery.
