PYE (Nowe), Barbara Louise - 64, Wellington, formerly of Lower Sackville, passed away Monday, August 15, 2005, in Melville Lodge, Halifax. She was a daughter of the late George Murray and Arlean (Baker) Nowe. She is survived by her loving sons, Robert (Paula), Lower Sackville, and Gordon (Beth), Wellington, as well as grandchildren, Kathi and Franklyn, Lower Sackville; Harley and Delaney, Wellington; sisters, Ethel Dearman (Reid), Hubley; Joyce Lohnes, Rhodes Corner; sisters-in-law, Albena Nowe, Bridgewater; Gabrielle Nowe, Ontario; Norma Embree (Bob), Lower Sackville; several nieces and nephews. Barbara moved to Lower Sackville in 1970 from Bedford with her husband and quickly became involved in the community through her participation in the Sackville Winter Carnival, the Boy Scouts and the Sackville Flower Club. Taking the time to care for and support her family was always top on her list of priorities. Barbara was employed by Mount Saint Vincent University Motherhouse prior to her diagnosis of progressive supranuclear palsy in January 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Pye; brothers, Murray and Arnie, and infant daughter, Stephanie. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services have been entrusted to T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, where visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday and memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday. Burial in St. Paul's West Cemetery, Ecum Secum. A very special thank you goes to the staff of Melville Lodge (West Wing), Halifax, for their wonderful care and support of Barbara during her three years with them. VEINOT, Beatrice Ruth — 94, Hemford, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011, in Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, where she had been residing. Born in Hemford, she was a daughter of the late Alden and Samantha (Lohnes) Mailman. She was an active supporter of Emmanuel United Church, Hemford, where she had formerly served as a steward. She was also an avid supporter of all community activities and functions. Surviving are her daughters, Sonia (Dan) Veno, Simpsons Corner; Sandra (Richard Allen) MacQuarrie, Pleasant River; grandchildren, Hector MacQuarrie, Toronto; Jeffrey MacQuarrie, Lake Mush Mush; Mardi (Lloyd) Smith, Nineveh; great-grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Cody Smith, Kailee MacQuarrie; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Oscar Veinot; infant son, Hilton; brother, Donald Mailman; half-sister, Damie (Lohnes) Turner; half-brother, Cecil Lohnes. OICKLE, Richard Weston — 87, Port Hillford, Guysborough Co., died September 18, 2010, in St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke. Born in Moser’s River, he was a son of the late Edgehill and Matilda (Gammon) Oickle. Richard joined the Canadian Army and served overseas during the Second World War with the North Shore Nova, New Brunswick Regiment and after being released with diphtheria and war injuries, he returned home and went to work in the pulpwood industry for Carl Turner. He also worked on the building of apartments in Halifax and Dartmouth after the war. He would later leave and return home to Moser River where he again worked in the pulpwood industry with D. J. Turner Ltd. He later went on to work for Scott Paper as a Contractor. He was known as a 'jack of all trades' from working on cars and building a boat to raising a family. He loved the woods and especially hunting and fishing. In his later years he took up woodworking and making furniture. Richard is survived by his dear friend and companion Gretta Pratt, Truro; daughters, Darlene (Jeff) Jordan, Port Hillford; Shirley (Douglas) Oickle, Antigonish; sisters, Amy Slaunwhite, Dartmouth; Barbara Davies, Arnprior, Ont.; grandchildren, Richard Webber, Brett and Kelsey Jordan and Elizabeth and Michael Guitard; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Vincent and Roland and a sister, Grace. Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Sherbrooke where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday with Pastor David Connolly officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. VEINOTTE, Mary Louise — 82, of Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Bethel, Me., she was a daughter of the late Fred and Grace (Crouse) Oickle. Mary moved to Nova Scotia when she was three years old. When Mary was younger she enjoyed picking blueberries, strawberries, beans and apples. Mary had worked at M.W. Graves Ltd., Berwick and Scotian Gold, Coldbrook for a short time. She mostly enjoyed babysitting in her home and loved children. Mary was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, Kingston. She enjoyed going on trips, travelling and seeing different places. Mary loved animals and playing the piano. She enjoyed getting together with family and playing bingo and going to card parties. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are daughters, Dianne (Eric) McBride, Aylesford; Joanne (Robert Misner) Saulnier, Auburn; grandchildren, Glen and Sherry Saulnier; Vicki and Kimberly McBride; seven great-grandchildren; and many friends whom she held close to her heart. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Murray Veinotte; brothers, Paul and Bobby Oickle; sisters, Pauline McKay, Leola McKean. Visitation for Mary will take place 7-9 p.m., Saturday in H.C. ERNST, Claude Eugene - 70, Blockhouse, Lunenburg Co., died Friday, June 7, 2002, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Blockhouse, he was a son of the late Joseph and Amy (Aulenback) Ernst. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay and past member of the Blockhouse Fire Department. Mrs. Laura May Joudrey, 89, widow of Rupert Joudrey, of Millville, passed away at the WKM Hospital, Berwick, Sunday, Aug 1. Born at Aylesford, she was a daughter of the late William and Ella (Crocker) Lutz. She is survived by six daughters Dora (Mrs. Doran Lutz), Nicholsville; Annie (Mrs. Norman Keddy), Millville; Mrs. Ella Tupper, Nicholsville; Bertha (Mrs. Michael MacDonald), Kentville; Ruby (Mrs. Cecil Rawding), Millville; Nina (Mrs. Cecil Veinotte), Morristown; 47 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Also surviving, two sisters Mrs. Ethel Joudrey, Waterville; Mrs. Norma Joudrey, Waterville; three brothers, Roy, Lake Paul; Mansford, Auburn; Lloyd, Aylesford. She was predeceased by her husband, three sons and two daughters. Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Morristown Baptist Church, Rev. Nelson Metcalfe officiating. Interment in the Morristown Cemetery.
Stuart Lemuel Naas, 83, passed away at Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater, on December 11, 1980, following a lengthy illness.Born in Walden, Lunenburg County, he was the son of the late Charles and Dena (Langille) Naas. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Laura DeMone, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by six sisters and five brothers, some of whom died in infancy.
He was a life-long member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Walden, from where the funeral service was conducted by Pastor Mark Winter and Pastor Rolf Meindl, on Sunday, December 14, at 3:30 p.m.
Hymns sung were "Beautiful Saviour" and "Amazing Grace." Organist was his great-niece, Pam Fancey.
Pallbearers were John Zwicker, Lloyd Griswold, Basil Kaizer, and great-nephews, Richard, Mitchell, and Peter Fancey.
Interment was in the family plot, Walden Cemetery.
VEINOTTE, St. Clair William - 74, Berwick, Kings Co., died July 30, 1997, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Newburne, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Willard James and Winnie Idella (Langille) Veinotte. He moved from Lunenburg to Berwick in 1953 and owned and operated S.W. Veinotte Superette in Berwick, which later became Veinotte's Riteway. In 1966, he opened a second Riteway store in Waterville and retired in 1975. He was formerly a member of the Berwick Lions Club and Berwick Curling Club. Surviving are sons, Sheldon, Berwick; Laurie, Kingston; stepsons, Roy Edward Muise, Halifax; Patrick Arthur Muise, Toronto; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Jean Muise, Victoria, B.C.; Anne Marie Muise-Usher, Greenwood; brother, Cecil Vernon, Second Peninsula; sister, Winnie Idella Falkenham, Northwest, Lunenburg Co.; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Jean (Beardsley) Muise-Veinotte; a daughter in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Friday, both in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, Rev. Newton A. Langille
There passed away at New Germany very suddenly on October 13th, Newton A. Langille at the age of 81. Mr. Langille was the last son of the late Stephen Langille of Northwest, living at that place for a number of years, then moving to Bridgewater, where Mrs. Langille passed away at the home of his son, Artemas; but his last five years of his old age was spent with his eldest daughter, Cevilla, who cared for him, with the help of her family; although she had much sickness and sorrow in her own family she still found a place for him in her home. He leaves to mourn seven children, Cevilla (Mrs. Allie Veinot), New Germany; Artemas and Robert, living in
Bridgewater; Stephen at Fort Frances; Edwin, Saskatchewan; Effie (Mrs. Peter Cantelope), Lunenburg; Alice (Mrs. B.H. Finley), Halifax; also two sisters, Mrs. Annis Faulkenham and Miss Sophia Langille of Northwest. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Rasmussen of Wentzell's Lake. The remains were taken to Bridgewater and placed by his beloved wife.

LOHNES, Shirley 'Joyce' — It is with sadness that we announce the passing of the late Shirley 'Joyce' Lohnes, 72, of Rhodes Corner, on Sunday, January 2, 2011, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late George Murray Nowe and Arlean Gertrude (Baker) Nowe. Joyce’s passion in life was helping others and to share a good laugh. A proud grandmother to five grandchildren, she cherished all her family and loved spending time with them. She is survived by sons, Rockey (Patsy), Rhodes Corner; Richard, Rhodes Corner; Reid (Catherine), Cookville; and sister, Ethel (Reid) Dearmen, Upper Tantallon. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Frederick Allen Lohnes; sister, Barbara Pye; brothers, Murray and Arnold Nowe. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. 3, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Rhodes Corner, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Roy Gilbert Robar
Funeral service for the late Roy Gilbert Robar, aged 79, of North River, was held Sunday, April 30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, Rev. Rolf Meindl officiating. Mr. Robar passed away at Dawson Memorial Hospital, April 28. Born in North River, he was a son of the late Samuel and Amanda Robar. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and for the greater part of his life was employed as a laborer. Prior to his passing he resided with his daughter, Phyllis, (Mrs. Samuel MacDonald), Meisner's Section. The body rested at Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Winnifred (Daniels), three sisters, Mary, Ida and Leila, also two brothers, William and Angus. Left to mourn his passing are five daughters, Ruby (Mrs. Max Acker), North River; Elva (Mrs. Laurie DeMone), New Germany; Violet (Mrs. Lyman Veinot), Kingston; Phyllis (Mrs. Samuel MacDonald), Meisner's Section; and Gloria (Mrs. Cornelius Gabriel) Lake Paul. There are also 30 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were six grandchildren, Ainsley Acker, Max Acker Jr., Michael Gabriel, Dexter Gabriel, Barry DeMone and LeRoy Hearn. Interment was at the New Germany Community Cemetery. Flowers were from the immediate family and donations made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River.

Born in New Germany, he was a son of the late Angus Whitfield and Winnifred Martha (Conrad) Hall. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield, and a member of Lunenburg County Fiddler's Association. He was a retired employee of Bowater Mersey Paper Co. and Canexel. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Goldie Jean Veinot; daughter, Darlene (Mrs. Lloyd Slauenwhite), Tottenham, Ont.; son, Michael Hall; stepson, Ivan Veinot, both of Watford; a grandson; two granddaughters; many nieces and nephews. LANGILLE, Anthony James - 86, formerly of Blockhouse, passed away November 11, 2006, in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born in Newburne, he was a son of the late Winnifred Langille. He was raised by his late grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Langille (Fauxburg). He was retired from National Sea Products, Lunenburg, where he had worked on the scallop processing line. He enjoyed working in his garden and sport fishing. He is survived by sister, Winnie (Armond) Faulkeham, Northwest; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, LaVerna Marguerite (Crossland); brothers, St. Clair Veinotte and Cecil Veinotte.
