Earl Carlton Veinot passed away at his home in New Germany on September 1st, 1962, at the age of 57 years. He was born at Livermore Falls, Maine, but spent the greater part of his life in the New Germany district.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Nina Veinot; also two sisters and three brothers, namely: Albert and Richard of New Germany; Evelyn (Mrs. Clifford Moore), of Stanburne; Joseph of Lawrencetown; and Grace (Mrs. Gordon Hampton), of Winnipeg; one sister and one brothere predeceased him.
The funeral service was held at Langille's Funeral Home, Barss Corner, on September 3rd, with Rev. MacDonald of New Germany United Church officiating. Hymns sung were "Nearer, My God, To Thee" and "O God, Our Help in Ages Past" rendered by the choir of the United Church of Barss Corner.
He was laid to rest in Indian Brook Cemetery. Pall bearers were Roderick Wentzell, Crosfield Bell, Edwin Fancy, Stanley Silver, Robert Silver, and Lawrence Silver.

GATES, Bradley Paul - 19, South Milford, Annapolis Co., died August 7, 2005, in Maitland Bridge. An avid sportsman, Bradley loved to play basketball and baseball, go fishing, and most other sports. His love for his friends and family was indescribable. He is survived by his parents, Paul (Jeanie Wear), South Milford; Heather Hartling (Wayne Robichaud), Digby; brother, Rikki (Sue Hudson), Annapolis Royal; sister, Justine (Shawn Morgan), South Milford; girlfriend, Diana Nickerson, Greenland; maternal grandmother, Marguerite Waters, Virginia East; paternal grandparents, Bruce and Glendean Gates, South Milford; great-grandmother, Gertrude Potter, Virginia East; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by maternal grandfather, Albert Hartling. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, both in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal, with Rev. Eugene Foster officiating. Interment will be in Milford Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. WHYNOT, Basil Sebastian - 70, North River, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2006 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Cherryfield, he was a son of the late Martin and Florence (Oickle) Whynot. Surviving are daughter, Janet (David) Cunningham, New Germany; sons, Gregory (Judy), Springfield; David, Sackville; Basil Jr., North River; sisters, Beatrice Drew, Eva Daniels, Eleanor Robar, Lona Burgoyne, all of North River; June Clooney, McAdam, N.B.; brother, Foster, North River; grandsons, Michael, Kyle, Gavin; granddaughters, Jolene, Alissa; great-grandchildren, Liam, Hallie, Hannah, Jaime-Georgia; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ella Marie Inness; daughter, Rose Marie; sisters, Shirley, Marjorie, Audrey, Rose; brothers, Berlyn, Eugene, Russell, Medford, Bernard. There will be no visitation in the funeral home by request. A public funeral service will be 11 a.m. today in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, Rev. Larry Ehrhardt officiating, with private family interment in the church cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church or South Shore Regional Hospital Ambulatory Care.

DARES, Christine Frances - 51, Back Centre, Lunenburg Co., died Saturday, June 8, 1996, in Fishermens Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Shelburne, she was a daughter of the late William and Madeline (Williams) Conrad. She was employed with Centre Consolidated School, managing the cafeteria for over 18 years. She was also quite involved with volunteer work at the school for many years. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, and leader of the Tops group in Lunenburg. She is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Wendy (Mrs. Charles Jackson), Cornwall, Ont.; son, Derrick, Bridgewater; sisters, Shirley (Mrs. Beaumont Nowe), Conquerall Mills; Marie (Mrs. Winnfred Daurie), Betty (Mrs. Lorraine Knickle), North West, Ann (Mrs. Donald Wamboldt, Sr.), New Cumberland; Rosalind (Mrs. Robert Joudrey), Conquerall Bank; brothers, George, Bridgewater, Bernard, Conquerall Mills, Edwin, West LaHave; granddaughters, Tanya Croft, Jessica and Jennifer Jackson; grandson, Brandon Dares; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Alma Slauenwhite; granddaughter, Miranda Dares. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday from St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Archdeacon Reginald MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre Valley. Immediate family flowers only. Memorial donations to St. John's Anglican Church, Canadian Cancer Society or any charity.

FEINDEL, Glendon (Glen) I.K. - 82, Bridgewater, died October 13, 1992, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Middleton, Annapolis County, he was a son of the late Isaac and Florence (Trethewey) Feindel. He was vice president and superintendent of Acadia Gas Engine Company, Bridgewater for 25 years and curator of the Des Brisay, Bridgewater, for 14 years. He was a member of Bridgewater United Church; former member of Bridgewater Curling Club and active in many community affairs. He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Ritcey; son, John, Edmonton; daughter, Susan Feindel-Barton, Ottawa; brother, Donald, Bridgewater; five grandchildren. The body has been cremated under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Bridgewater United Church, Rev. Alexander MacLean officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation, Bridgewater United Church or any charity.

DREW, M.E. Eileen - 84, passed away November 22, 2004, in Grand View Manor, Berwick, where she had been a resident since August. She was the only daughter of the late Layton and Laverta (Acker) Conrad of Stanburne, Lunenburg Co. In 1941, she married Clifford Drew and they lived in New Germany until his death in 1998. She then made her home with her eldest son, Roland and wife Linda, Berwick, where she was lovingly cared for. Since June, she had a lengthy stay at Valley Regional Hospital and in August moved to Grand View Manor. Her family and many friends, new and old, will miss her. She will also be greatly missed by the family pet "Muffin". She is survived by sons, Roland (Linda), Berwick; Raymond (Gloria), London, Ont.; grandchildren, Shelley (Sidney), Lower Sackville; Darren (Marianne), Morden; Shawn (Laurie), Bedford; Michael, London, Ont.; great-grandchildren, Melody, Lexie, Justin, Devon and Kira. She was predeceased by husband, Clifford; infant daughter, Wilma; grandson, Richard; brothers, Clinton, Buril, Denton, and Paul. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany, Rev. Larry Ehrhardt officiating. RAMEY, Jessie Elizabeth - 84, Union Square, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2006, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on August 31, 1921, in Elmwood, she was a daughter of the late John Howard and Phoebe Amanda (Hallamore) Beeler. She was a school teacher for several years. She was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Elmwood. Surviving are her daughter, Veronica (Willard) Wagner, Barss Corner; son, Russell (Marilyn), Union Square; twin sisters, Agnes Whynot, Halifax, and Carole Caldwell, British Columbia; grandchildren, Krista (Troy) Conrad, Lynn Wagner (Trent Hubley), Mandi, Nick, Luke; great-grandson, Chandler Conrad; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl; daughter, Agnes Dorey; sisters, Lyle, Violet, Pearl, Susie, Annie; brothers, James Clifford "Dick", John Howard. Visitation today from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Funeral mass 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Msgr. Mrs. Garret Veinot
The remains of the late Mrs. Garret Veinot, formerly of this town, came from Boston on Saturday and were buried in Brookside Cemetery. Mrs. Veinot was Caroline, daughter of the late Jacob Silver. She died on Wednesday, March 2 nd, in the ninety-third year of her age. She leaves four sons, James of New Germany, William of Northfield, Stephen of Boston, and Alfred of Bridgewater; and three daughters, Mrs. Henry Taylor, Mrs. Lee Thomas, of Boston, and Mrs. Sarah Atkins of Roxbury, Mass. Mrs. Veinot left Bridgewater fifteen years ago, and has since resided with her son, Stephen, in Boston. She had 7 children, 28 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

VEINOTTE, Cecil Vernon - 75, Martins Brook, died February 14, 2000, in the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Snairs Crossing, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Willard and Winnie (Langille) Veinotte. Surviving are his wife, Rosie; stepdaughters, Joan Silver, West Northfield; Kathleen Pentony, Calgary, Alta.; Diane Whynot, Dayspring; Betty Jane Abbott, Newcombville; stepsons, Terry Feener, Big Lots; Robert Feener, Upper Branch; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; sister, Winnie Falkenham, Northwest; half-brother, Anthony Langille, Blockhouse. He was predeceased by brother, St. Clair; stepsons, Rendell Feener, Allen Feener. Graveside service 11 a.m. Thursday, in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield, Rev. Gloria McClure Fraser officiating. WHYNOT, Eugene Beverly- 51, Aylesford, formerly of North River, Lunenburg County, died Friday, December 1, 1989 in Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick. Born in North River, he was a son of Florenece (Oickle) Whynot and the late Martin Whynot. He served in the Canadian Army for nine years. He worked for a steel company in Welland, Ont. He is survived by five sisters, , Eleanor (Mrs. Gordon Robar), Eva Robar, Beatrice Drew, all of North River; Lona (Mrs. Donald Burgoyne) Cherryfield; June (Mrs. Fred Cloney ), McAdam, N.B.; four brothers, Foster, Russell, both of North River; Basil, Bridgewater; Berlyn, Springfield, Annapolis County. He was predeceased by four sisters, Rose, Audrey, Marjorie, Shirley; two brothers, Bernard, Medford. The body is in Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River. Rev. Robert Robb officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Ella Mae Nauss, 102, Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg, formerly of Chester, died April 12, 2001, in the home. Born in Chester, January 30, 1899, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Mary (Weisner) Rafuse. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Mrs. Winton Zinck), Chester; Dora (Mrs. Edward Lenihan), Halifax; son, Albert, Chester; sister, Annie (Mrs. Edward Randall), Kentville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, A. Gordon Nauss; daughters, Edna Morash, Helen Morash, and Ann Mary, in infancy; sons, Murray and Walter Gordon, in infancy; sisters, Bertha, Gertie, Lalia, and Lillian; brothers, Edward, John and George; grandson, Aubrey. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester, Rev. Sean Taylor officiating.

ROBAR, Marjorie Alexandra - 81, North River, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2006, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in North River, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Idella (Daniels) Ernst. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River. She was the community correspondent for the Family and Friends newspaper column of the Bridgewater Bulletin. She enjoyed rug hooking, quilting, playing bingo and traveling. Marjorie had a magnetic personality and was loved by all who knew her. Surviving are her daughters, Erna (Beverly) Sarty, North River; Audrey (Willis) Sarty, Bridgewater; Janet (Eric) Russell, North River; Elaine (Jessen) Langille, Bridgewater; son, Jerry (Bonnie), Cherryfield; daughter-in-law, Shirley Robar, Stanburne; sister, Arlene Robar, North River; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; companion, Joe Tzagarakis; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest H. Robar; son, Arnold; infant son, Merle; brother, Murray Ernst. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Service 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, Rev. Larry Ehrhardt officiating. Private family interment in Epworth Cemetery, New Germany. KEDDY, Grant Allison (Buss) - 82, 1692 River Rd., Wallbrook, Kings Co., died October 27, 1997, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in West Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Norman and Evelyn (Pinch) Keddy. He was employed as a carpenter in the Valley area for most of his working life. Wolfville - Gertrude Amelia Smith, 71, of Wolfville, died Wednesday at home. Born in Inglisville, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Edna (Hinds) Connell. She was employed with Acadia University dining hall and later with M.W. Graves processing plant, Kentville. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; two sons, Floyd, Wolfville; Earl, Inglisville; three brothers, Ralph, Blomidon; Leland, Woodville; Jack, Inglisville; two sisters, Dora (Mrs. Vernon Beals), Inglisville; Irene (Mrs. Lionel Spears), Halifax; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Seymour Whynott; two brothers, Sydney and Murray; two grandchildren. The body is in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Wolfville, where funeral will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family flowers only. TOMPKINS, Gordon Charles - 61, Hampton, Annapolis Co., passed away Thursday, February 22, 2007, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Arthur and Sadie (Caldwell) (Hawksworth) Tompkins. Gordon had an innate sense of nature. He understood the weather, tides, animals and hunting. He loved the shore life, fishing and beach walking. He will be sorely missed by everyone. He is survived by his wife, Doreen; daughter, Lisa McDonald (Chris), Greenwood; son, Robert Tompkins, Round Hill; grandchildren, Chris and Ashley; stepgrandchildren, Devin and Angie; sisters, Mary Lea, Berwick; Grace Bruhm, Dartmouth; brother, Edward Tompkins, Vancouver, B.C.; many nieces and nephews, and his stepfather, Parker Hawksworth. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ronnie, Earl, James, and half-brother, Robert Hawksworth. Visitation will take place Sunday, February 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Hampton Baptist Church, Hampton, Pastor Bill Patterson officiating. Interment in Hampton Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of choice.
