James Perley Daniels Halifax Herald
Dated: November 1, 1982.
North River - James Perley Daniels, 93, of North River, died Monday in Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in North River, he was a son of the late John and Alice Daniels.
He is survived by a sister, Delia Robar, North River; two brothers, Wallace and Howard, both of North River.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Laura, Lettie, and Flossie; and three brothers, Charles, Henry, and Abraham.
The body is in Langille's Funeral Home. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in North River Lutheran Church, with burial in North River Cemetery.

OICKLE, Beatrice M. - 85, Lower Northfield, Lunenburg County, died September 9, 1994, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Lower Northfield, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Martha (Slauenwhite) Oickle. She is survived by her husband, Wallace; three daughters, Agnes (Mrs. Harold Veinot), Oakland; Gladys (Mrs. Fred Feener), Maitland; Peggy (Mrs. Rex MacKay), Lower Northfield; son, Elliott, Lower Northfield; brother, Clarence, Lower Northfield; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Douglas; three infant children; granddaughter, Doris Veinotte; twin sister, Beulah; two brothers, Walter, Wesley. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Rev. John Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or Maple Grove Cemetery fund.

VARNER, Ray Edward - 71, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., died June 1, 1995, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in New Germany, he was a son of the late Arleigh and Alda (Emino) Varner. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was a former employee of Canadian National Railways having 25 years service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 102, New Germany and Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany. Surviving are his wife, the former Gerelene C. Woodworth; daughters, Helene (Mrs. John Parnell), New Germany; Michelle (Mrs. Stephen MacDonald), Timberlea; sons, Edward and wife Sheila, Truro; Richard and wife Cheryl, New Germany; sisters, Doris (Mrs. Roland Veinot), New Germany; Mildred (Mrs. Karl MacKay), Upper Northfield; grandchildren, Melanie, Christa, Chad, Bruce, Bobby, Brenda, Michael, Jason, Joshua; several nieces and nephews. Visitation today, legion service 7 p.m. tonight, both in New Germany Funeral Home, 4895 Rt. 10, New Germany. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Burial in church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Lutheran Church building fund.

Hector Murray Kelly, 63, Hebbs Cross, died Friday, April 6, 1990, in Hebbville. Born in Watford, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Stanley and Lilla (Sperry) Kelly. He is survived by his wife, the former Leila Zwicker; two half-brothers, Cedric, Watord; Charles, Cookville; two half-sisters, Irene (Mrs. Roderick Feener), West Northfield; Mary (Mrs. Murray Beck), Watford. He was predeceased by a stepfather, Robert Hirtle. The body has been cremated. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St.James Anglican Church, Conquerall Mills, Canon Emery Harris officiating, assisted by Rev.Sandy Murray. Burial of ashes will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to any charity.

SAULNIER, Verna Maude - 76, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2006, in Dartmouth General Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born May 24, 1930, in North River, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Simon and Adelia Robar. Verna is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ronald; sons, Laurie (Doreen), Bridgewater; Dale (Jessie), Lower Sackville; Clifford (Marion), Donnie (Jean), Gordie (Donalda), Jerry, David; daughters, Betty Saulnier (Daniel Chiasson), Diane (Fred) Corbett, Linda Saulnier (Kevin Brown), Audrey Saulnier (George Smith), Rita and Donna Saulnier, all of Dartmouth; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by granddaughter, Tina in infancy; grandson, D.J. in infancy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where Verna's family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, and where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Flowers welcome or a donation in Verna's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5161 George St., Floor 7, Halifax, NS B3J 1M7, would be appreciated.

ACKER, LeRoy Ellot - 86, Caledonia, Queens Co., died Saturday, April 22, 2006, in the Veteran's Unit of Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Hunter's Lodge, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Frederick and Ida (Goucher) Acker. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Canadian Army Corps. Following the war, he was employed with Bowater Mersey Paper Company as a truck driver and machine operator. He loved to hunt and fish as well as do woodworking in his spare time. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Trimper; daughter, Ruby (Howard) Fraser, British Columbia; sons, Robert (Mary), Townsen, Del., and Claude (Deborah), Norton, N.B.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Hoar, Doaktown, N.B., and Florence Ball, Bridgewater; brother, Mervin (Shirley), Caledonia. He was predeceased by sisters, Olive and Kathleen; brother, Dennis. Visitation will be today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Caledonia United Baptist Church, Rev. John Boddy officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Caledonia United Baptist Church.

WHYNOT, Floyd Burton - 66, Wolfville, died August 20, 1997, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Albany, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Seymour Whynot and Gertrude (Connell) (Whynot) Smith. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are daughter, Zelma Amero, Greenwood; brother, Earl, Inglisville, Annapolis Co.; stepfather, Lawrence Smith, Wolfville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place under the direction of W.C. Hiltz Funeral Parlour, Kentville. Graveside service 11 a.m. Monday in Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville, Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or any charity.

Flossie Blanche Veinotte
The community of West Northfield was saddened to learn of the passing away of its oldest citizen, Mrs. Flossie Blanche Veinotte on Thursday, November 14, 1991, at the South Shore Regional Hospital after a short illness. She was born at Lower Northfield on April 6, 1895, the daughter of Henry and Phoebe (Joudrey) Zinck. Known as "Nana" to many, she lived her entire married life at West Northfield. She was a faithful member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, and a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Guild. At 96 years of age she was very interested in all community affairs. She is survived by one daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Laird Arenburg), Truro; three sons, William, Lester and Ervin, all of West Northfield; one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Ramey, Bridgewater; two brothers, Fred Zinck, Lower Northfield; Percey Zinck, Blockhouse; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Perlie Wilson; two sons, Clarence and Elwood who died in infancy; one granddaughter, Judith, Truro; one sister, Effie Langille; two brothers, Angus and William Zinck. The funeral service, under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, took place at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, West Northfield on Saturday, November 16, 1991, with the Rev. Peter Armstrong officiating, assisted by granddaughter layreader, Mrs. Catherine Robar. The choir was in attendance, while granddaughter-in-law, Mrs. Lana Veinotte, provided the beautiful music as organist. Burial took place at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers were Graham Campbelle, Eugene Veinotte, Gary Veinot. Pallbearers were David Arenburg, Bruce Veinotte, Keith Veinot, Allen Veinotte, Kevin Veinotte and Phillip Veinot - grandchildren of the deceased.

He was involved in forestry until his retirement. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Alden MacGregor), Prince Edward Island; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by five sisters, Lily, Cora, Lettie, Jessie, Laura; five brothers, Abraham, Wallace, Pearlie, Henry, and Charles. The body is in R.A. Corkum Funeral home, Wileville, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Rev.Robert Robb officiating. Burial will be in North River Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Victorian Order of Nurses or South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

ZINCK, Joan Clair - 56, Clearland, Lunenburg Co., died November 19, 1996, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Newburne, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Jennie (Eisnor) Beck. Surviving are her husband, Gordon Robie Zinck; daughters, Christine (Mrs. Dan Covert), St. Thomas, Ont.; Elaine (Mrs. Robin Hubley), Mahone Bay; Marlene (Mrs. Kerry Veinotte), Clearland; sons, Rockey Simpson, Vancouver, B.C.; Timmie Simpson, North Bay, Ont.; sister, Shirley (Mrs. Bernie Durling), Yarmouth; brothers, Donald, Douglas, Harold, all of Newburne; George, Capreol, Ont.; Murray Watford, Lunenburg Co.; six grandchildren. Visitation 2-4, 79 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Friday in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Newburne, Rev. Ted Heinze officiating. Burial in St. Matthew's Cemetery. Donations to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Frederick Arnold Robar
Frederick Arnold Robar, 64, North River, died Thursday at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in North River, he was a son of Adelia (Daniels) Robar and the late Simon Robar. He is survived by two sisters, Flo (Mrs. William Lowe), Dalhousie; Verna (Mrs. Ronald Saulnier), Dartmouth; a half-sister, Evelyn Hirtle, North River. He was predeceased by two sisters, Sadie, Laura; a half-sister, Beulah; two brothers, Amos and Ernest. The body is in Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be held 10 a.m. Sunday from the funeral home, Rev. Andrew Paulsen officiating. Burial to follow at the Old North River Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

LOWE, Florence V. - 74, East Dalhousie, Kings Co., died August 12, 1995, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born at North River, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Simon and Deliah (Daniels) Robar. Surviving are her husband, William Sinclair; daughters, Helen (Mrs. Aubrey Rhyno), Itlay Cross; Audrey, Bridgewater; Lillian Oickle, West Northfield; Thelma, Shirley, New Germany; sons, Douglas, East Dalhousie; Russell, New Germany; sister, Verna (Mrs. Ronald Saulnier), Dartmouth; nine grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sons, Wilfred, Glen; sisters, Sadie, Laura; half-sisters, Beulla, Evelyn; brothers, Amos, Ernest, Freddie; grandchildren, Tina, Lisa. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, both in New Germany Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany, Rev. Ted Heinze officiating. Burial in Garden of Rest Cemetery, North River. Donations to the Lowe family can be made through New Germany Funeral Home.

Mrs. Amanda A. Acker

The death of Amanda A. Acker at the age of 95, widow of the late James Acker, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Daniels, where she had resided for the past five years. Mrs. Acker had been confined to her bed for the past year and seven months.
Surviving are two daughters, (Cora) Mrs. Edward Daniels; (Wattie), widow of the late Emery Robar; three sons, Howar, Gordon, Gilbert; all of North River; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Whiston, Leominster, Mass,; 21 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren.
The funeral was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Chruch on Monday, October 19th, at 2 p.m. with Rev. W.L.Myra officiating. Interment was in North River Cemetery.
