ACKER, Annie Laura - 90, Wilmot, passed away peacefully November 26, 1999, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born May 2, 1909, in Hunter Lodge, Annapolis Co., she was the youngest daughter of the late Norman and Cedilla (Woodworth) Goucher. Annie and Lloyd were married October 1, 1930, in Lawrencetown and moved to Wilmot where their home was always open to everyone especially children of the community. The Young People Group met at their home week after week to plan activities, have sing songs and enjoy Annie's wonderful molasses cookies. Annie loved music and could she ever play the organ and whistle. Annie was a very caring person who always put family before herself. She cared for her in-laws, who lived with them, until we said good bye to Grammy Acker in 1958. We wonder how Annie found the time and the energy to accomplish so many things: hooked rugs, made and quilted quilts, crocheted beautiful doilies, embroidered, knit mittens. All of these items she gave away or sold in the little white canteen which became a landmark in Wilmot. In later years, Annie's passion was yard sales. Annie was a gutsy lady who loved a challenge and kept up with the times. She learned to drive in her 50's and went out and found herself a job. In recent years, Annie had more leisure time, she spent it wisely - knitting puppets by the 100's for the hospital, mitts and slippers for the mitten tree at Christmas and kept up an active correspondence with family and friends. Annie was a member of the United Church of Canada which she attended faithfully until her stroke in January, 1999. She was a life member of UCW, Women's Institute, Ladies Sewing Circle, Red Cross, and taught Sunday school for many, many years. Annie (Mom, Nanny, Nan, Grannan) leaves to celebrate her life; daughter, Phyllis (George) Gard, Springdale, Nfld; son, Basil (Jean), Wilmot; grandsons, Rod (Sheila) Gard, Oak Bay, N.B.; David Gard, Key West, Florida; Scott (Sherry) Acker, Fredericton, N.B.; Randall (Maureen) Acker, Bridgewater; Joel Acker, Wilmot; foster grandson, Ross (Shannon) Connell, Middleton; granddaughters, Kelly (Stewart) Roy and Tracey (Michael) Bower, both of Wilmot; great-grandchildren, Logan and Dustin Acker, Fredericton; Lindsay and Spencer Roy, Wilmot; Hannah and Laura Bower, Wilmot; Madison and Rylan Acker, Bridgewater; several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by beloved husband, Lloyd O'Dell (1982); infant daughter (1931); brothers, Cecil and Charlie; sisters, Ida Acker, May Fancy, Gladys Smith. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday, in the Kingston United Church, Rev. Lisa Potter officiating.
