HINES, Leah Esther - 87, Brooklyn, Hants Co., passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with her family at her side. Born on April 14, 1918, in New Ross, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Bessie (Turner) Keddy. Leah had a zest for life, and lived every day to the fullest. She was a strong and independent woman, and touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of meeting her. She spent her childhood growing up with sisters in Kings County and eventually met the love of her life, Otis, her husband of 60 years. Leah and Otis made the move to Hants County in 1940. In 1953, they bought what is known to many as the "Hines Family Farm" in Brooklyn, where Leah resided until her passing. Leah was a very avid gardener, winning many awards for her beautiful flowers and bountiful gladiolas at the Hants County Exhibition. She enjoyed cooking for others and provided wonderful meals for all who arrived at the family farm at mealtime. There were many people who came for visits at the farm around mealtime, knowing that Leah would prepare many delectable wonders. She enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband Otis, spending many winters together in Florida, traveling across Canada and the United States by car, making many stops and visits to family and friends along the way. In the past few years, she traveled with her children around the Maritimes, stopping in little tourist towns to chat and eat in restaurants, enjoying the scenic beauty, always taking in all that life had to offer. Last year, Leah took her first airplane ride to British Columbia to visit family and would talk about her "plane ride" often. Leah also enjoyed knitting and could be found with a book or a magazine in hand, as she loved to read. Leah is survived by her son, Richard (Miriam), River John; daughters, Sandra (Keith) Zwicker, Brooklyn; Marie (Gerald) Harvey, Gypsum Mines; grandchildren, Ricky Hines, Sherri (Craig) Greenough, Cindy (Darrell) Hyson, Timmy Hines, Heather (Steve) Hines-Clark, Gregory Hines, Holly Hines, C.
