Mrs. Sarah Lohnes 1936 Bridgewater Bulletin
There passed away Mrs.Sarah Lohnes, a highly respected resident of Nineveh, at an early hour on Friday morning, May 1st, 1936, at the advanced age of 83 years.
Mrs. Lohnes was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fabien Veinot of Hemford, where she was born. She married John Lohnes of Nineveh, when quite young and came here to live with her husband about two years after their marriage, where they lived for about sixty years.
She was of a quiet and kindly disposition and was very much loved by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed, especially in the home where she left a grief-stricken grand-daughter with whom Mrs.Lohnes had lived for several years.
She leaves to mourn their loss an only daughter, (Samantha) Mrs. Alden Mailman, of Hemford, three brothers and three sisters, also nine grand-children and three great grand-children.
The funeral took place on Sunday, May 3rd, at 2:30 o'clock from her late home and was conducted by Rev. E.R. MacVicar, of New Germany. Interment took place in the Hemford Cemetery where the deceased was laid to rest beside her husband who predeceased her three years ago.

VARNER, Maurice Obediah - 79, Copland Road, Lunenburg Co., died October 26, 1999, in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, Lunenburg Co. Born in Stanburne, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Kenneth Aaron and the Ida P. (Veinot) Varner. He worked as a farmer most of his life and worked in the woods in the winters. He served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment of the Royal Canadian Army during the Second World War. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruby Pearl Joudrey, Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany; daughters, Margaret Selig, Simpsons Corner; Wilma Veinotte, East Dalhousie; Ivy Varner, Copland Road; sons, Charles, Pleasant River; Kenneth, East Dalhousie; Steven, East LaHave; Carl, Chester; brother, Homer, Stanburne; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughters, Faye; one in infancy; sister, Cora, Lydia. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Friday, both in Langille's Funeral Home, 5267 Main St., New Germany, Lunenburg Co., Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Burial in Epworth Cemetery, New Germany, Lunenburg Co. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

SARTY, Geraldine Marguerite -87, Granville Beach, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Greywood, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Laura (Hubley) Orde. She was a member of the Granville Beach Baptist Church Sewing Circle. She is survived by sons, Lawrence (Barbara), Granville Beach, and Donald, Granville Beach; foster children, Lovett Chetwynd and Wayne Potter, both of Kitchener, Ont.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis; son, Ronald; daughter, Lorraine; one grandchild; brothers, Ralph, Ward, and Darrell; sisters, Grace, Doris, and Marg. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Granville Beach Baptist Church with Rev. Elizabeth Waugh officiating, assisted by Rev. Dr. George Allen. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations in memory may be sent to Granville Beach Baptist Church Sewing Circle.

VEINOT, Laura Emmiline - 98, New Germany, formerly of Stanley Section, Lunenburg Co., died Sunday, August 4, 2002, in Rosedale Home For Special Care, New Germany. Born in Lake Pleasant, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Dimmock and Mary (O'Hara) Tufts. She was a member of New Canada Baptist Church. She loved farming, growing flowers, hooking mats, making pickles and Christmas wreaths. She went cutting Christmas trees with her daughter at the age of 70. She loved her special dog, Sheba. The New Germany Medical Centre was conceived in her kitchen and at her suggestion that one be built. She is survived by daughter, Daisy Simpson, Stanley Section; sons, Leo (Edna) Veinot, Kingston; Nobel (Isabel) Veinot, Bridgewater; Glenwood (Rose) Veinot, Stanley Section; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 30 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her lifelong companion, Beverly Smith; sons, Burlin, Chester; sisters, Freelove, Cynthia, Maimie; brothers, George, Churchill, Ernest, Wilson; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one great great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany, with visiting at 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, in New Canada Baptist Church, Rev. Pearly Tidd officiating. Burial in New Canada Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Rosedale Home For Special Care, New Canada Baptist Church or Canadian Cancer Society.

Laura Mabel Robar (Waitie) - Laura Robar, wife of the late Emery Robar passed away October 30, 1977 at Fahie's Nursing Home in Liverpool. She was born in North River April 30, 1891 and was the daughter of the late James and Amada Acker. Laura is survived by one daughter Elreta (Mrs. Guilford Daniels), North River; two sons, Elwood, North River and Caleb, Meisner's Section; also one brother Gilbert Acker, North River. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. Laura was predeceased by her husband 44 years ago. She then kept house for Roy Robar for 36 years until she became ill and was hospitalized. Laura was also predeceased by one daughter, Stella (Mrs. Harry Arenburg); three brothers, Gordon, Howard and Caleb; also one sister Cora (Mrs. Edward Daniels). The funeral of the late Laura Robar was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 1, 1977 with Pastor Keith officiating. The burial was at North River Cemetery. The pallbearers were Rufus Robar, Lorne Robar, Ellis Robar, Wilford Robar, Edwin Robar and Witford Oickle.

ZWICKER, Evelyn Annetta - 71, New Germany, Lunenburg County, died February 20, 1993, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in New Germany, she was a daughter of Edna (Veinot) Lantz, New Germany and the late Avery Lantz. She was a long-term member and organist of Epworth United Church, New Germany, and their UCW. She was a piano teacher for many years. She is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Gail (Mrs. Barry Crozier), Wileville; three sons, David, at home; Barry, Stillwater Lake; Kenneth, Strathmore, Alta.; brother, Chester, Pinehurst; eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene (Bub), Mervyn. The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Epworth United Church, Rev. Grant Walls officiating, assisted by Rev. James Dauphinee. Burial will be in Epworth Cemetery, New Germany. Donations may be made to Epworth Church Organ Fund or Canadian Cancer Society through Langilles Funeral Home, New Germany.

EISNER, Raleigh Millett - 91, Lawrencetown, passed away April 22, 2007, with his loving family at his side. Born December 26, 1915, in Bear River, he was the youngest son of the late O.A. and Ethel (Emeno) Eisner. Raleigh was of a very gentle, kind nature always thinking of others before himself. He was the loving, devoted husband of Etta Eisner for 68 years and they lived in Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., all of their married life and were blessed with three wonderful daughters. Raleigh was a very faithful and devoted member of Lawrencetown United Baptist Church for over 70 years and served on many committees including the honour of serving as a deacon to the glory of God for many years. He loved his Lord dearly and put his trust in Him completely. He was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for 70 years and upheld their principles of Friendship, Love and Truth. He was the Past District Deputy for a number of years and he visited many lodges in Canada and the United States on behalf of the I.O.O.F. cause. He received a citation for many years of volunteer service from the National Red Cross. He loved music, especially gospel hymns. His favorite sports were tennis and curling and playing 45s with dear family and friends, enjoying the treats that followed. He is survived by his wife, the former Etta Sarty; daughters, Marilyn (Lyman) Huskins, Milton, Queens Co.; Lois (Garry) Lupkoski, Comox, B.C.; and Joan (John) Clarke, Pictou Landing; grandchildren, Patricia Isnor, Larry Huskins, Tracy Kerr, Christa Clarke, Selena and Rebecca Lupkoski; great-grandchild, Nathaniel Isnor, and step great-grandchild, Kael Kerr, who made his world a more joyful place because they were part of it. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Shirley and Kenneth. Valley Lodge No. 153 I.O.O.F. service will be held 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448, with visitation to follow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, Rev. Barbara Bishop and Rev. John Beers officiating with the Lawrencetown Male Choir (of which he was a long-time member) participating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Lawrencetown United Baptist Church Baptismal Fund or a charity of choice.

CHESLEY, Merna Lillian - 82, New Germany, died January 25, 1994, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. Born in New Germany, she was a daughter of the late Raswell and Sadie (Conrad) Feindel. After graduating from Normal College, Truro, she taught in various schools in the New Germany area until her marriage, when she and her husband operated a meat store and cement business in New Germany. After her husband's death she again taught in New Germany for a few years. After her second marriage, they resided in Clark's Harbour and Bear River until their retirement, returning to New Germany. She was a member of Epworth United Church; the UCW and Barss Corner Women's Institute. She is survived by a brother, Ronald, New Germany; three nieces and a nephew; two stepdaughters, Pamela Coleman, Clarence; Margaret Langley, Toronto. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arol Freeman; second husband, Seldon Chesley; half-sister, Mabel Powers. The body has been donated to Dalhousie Medical School.

COLEMAN, George Clifford - 90, Steam Mill, Kings Co., died June 7, 1998, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Chipmans Corner, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Joseph Henry and Annie (Green) Coleman. He worked for the Department of Highways for 19 years, retiring in 1973. He lived in the Valley area all of his life. Surviving are his wife, the former Glenna Cogswell; sons, Blake, Steam Mill; Richard, Kingston; George, Oromocto, N.B.; Reginald, Parksville, B.C.; Amos, Cottage Cove, Annapolis Co.; daughter, Clarice (Mrs. John Slattery), Lower Sackville; sister, Olive Strob, Wilmington, Mass.; five stepchildren; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Laura Veinot; brothers, Carl, Joseph Earl, Hugh, Milford, Joseph Henry, Edward, Leroy; sisters, Lulu, Effie, Vera, Naomi; great-grandchild, Ashley Dawn Power. Visitation 3:30-5, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, both in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Kentville, Rev. Brian Hamilton officiating. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only. Donations to Annapolis Valley Regional Hospital Foundation or VON, Kings Branch.

ARENBURG, Grace Gertrude - 81, Kingston, formerly of Cambridge, Kings County, died November 13, 1994, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in New Germany, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Jennie (Fiendel) Snyder. She was a member of Cambridge Baptist Church. She is survived by sons, David, Bruce, both of Kingston; brother, Milton, Hemford, Lunenburg County; a grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Raymond; brothers, Ira, Obie, Richard, Carrol, Oran, Doran; sisters, Irene Hatfield, Elreta Woodworth, Dorothy Woodworth, Phyllis Snyder, Doris. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cambridge Baptist Church, Rev. Leo Fletcher and Rev. John Bartol officiating. Burial will be in Cambridge Cemetery. Following burial a reception will be held in the church hall. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

DEMONE, Frederick Ronald "Freddie" - 83, Meisner's Section, Lunenburg Co., died May 25, 2000, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co. Born in North River, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Garfield Emino and the late Jenny (Daniels) Demone. In
the early years he worked in the woods and later as a road foreman. He joined the Royal Canadian Army during the war but was discharged for medical reasons. For at least 40 years he ran a store and was fondly known by a great many people. Surviving are daughters, Pam Demone, Meisner's Section; Lucy Doucette, Bridgewater; one granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife, Minnie and step-father, Carey Demone. Arrangements are under the direction of Langille's Funeral Home New Germany, Lunenburg Co. Visitation was Saturday. Funeral 4 p.m. today in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, Lunenburg Co., Rev. Ted Heinze officiating. Burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, North River. Donations to Canadian Diabetes Association, or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River.

Mrs. Jessie Lego July,
Mrs. Jessie Lego, 99, of North West Harbour, Shelburne County, died Saturday at Roseway Manor.
She was born in New Germany. She was a daughter of the late Obediah and Dena (Snyder) Feindel.
She is survived by a son, Eugene, Shutesbury, Mass.; a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Ronald Shay), North West Harbour; a sister, Mrs. Lena Converse, Worcestr, Mass; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert.
Funeral service was held at Trinity United Church, North East Harbour, Rev.Derek Shelly officiating, with burial at Pleasant Plain Cemetery, North West Harbour.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity.

SLAUENWHITE, Reginald Harris - 94, Sweetland, Lunenburg Co., passed away on July 24, 2007, at home. Born in Lower Northfield, he was a son of the late Wallace and Mary (Slauenwhite) Slauenwhite. He is survived by his sons, Sterling (Anne), Dartmouth; Phillip, Calgary; daughter, Thelma Ernst, Dartmouth; foster daughter, Linda Beck, Marriots Cove; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; devoted caregiver, Lois Wile, Wileville; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lena (Veinotte); brothers, Robbie and William; sisters, Mildred Silver, Jennie Hiltz, Elva Veinotte, Lillie Aulenback, Daisy Veinotte, Lois Fancy; two sisters and one brother in infancy. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater and from where funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Paul Jensen officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetland Cemetery. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Farmville or the charity of your choice.
