KEDDY, Ralph Russell - 86, Middleton, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, March 4, 2004, with his family by his side in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. He was born March 6, 1917, a son of the late Steven Richard and Ella Maude (Reeves) Keddy (Martins River, Lunenburg Co.). He was a woodsman and was employed at C.E. Section, CFB Greenwood as a carpenter for many years. He loved to hunt and fish. God took him home to be with his beloved wife, the former Clara Boutilier, with whom he was married for 60 years. A most loving father, he leaves behind his son, Russell (Roseann, his loving caregiver), Welton's Corner; daughter, Nancy (Peter) Dion, Nictaux; brother, Frank, Ottawa, Ont.; cherished grandchildren, Steven, Patricia, Alicia, and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, John Keddy, Alexander, Matthew and Emma Keddy, Liam and Erin MacNeil, Nicholas, Nadia and Emily Dion, Page, Payton and William Tallon, who were the light of his life. He was predeceased by brothers, Granville, Earl and Albert; sister, Margaret. Visiting 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, both in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, Rev. Ewen Moase officiating. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations to Victorian Order of Nurses.

VEINOTTE, Jean Madlyn - 84, Blockhouse, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Born in Blockhouse, January 1, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Lawson and Luella (Ernst) Aulenback. A graduate of Normal College, Truro, Jean taught for 36 years at schools in Oakland, Mahone Bay, Western Shore, Chester Basin and Blockhouse. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Mahone Bay, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and elder. Jean enjoyed making quilts and gardening, and was very interested in family history and genealogy. She was a driving force behind the publication of books on the Langille, Ernst and Aulenback families. She was recently presented with a Certificate of Recognition by the Municipality of Lunenburg for her many years of volunteer services to the Blockhouse Fire Department. She is survived by her sister, Mildred (Earl) Dauphinee, Fauxburg; brother, Harry (Evelyn) Aulenbach, Blockhouse; nieces, Doris Ernst, Halifax; Gail Dziuba and Kathy Aulenbach, Calgary, Alta.; Wendy (Ted) Wojewoda, Nanaimo, B.C.; nephews, David (Barbara) Dauphinee, Sterling Heights, Mich.; Derek (Sandra) Purcell, Orleans, Ont.; grandnieces and nephews, Carrie and Cheryl Dauphinee, Jemil, Reyhan and Deyvis Dalman, Donovan and Justin Purcell. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, R. Lester Veinotte, and grandnephew, Christopher. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 29, in Trinity United Church, Rev. Ruth Brown officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Old Blockhouse Cemetery, Blockhouse. Memorial donations may be made to The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada; Victorian Order of Nurses, Lunenburg County Branch; South Shore Palliative Care, or any other charity through Mahone Funeral Home (902) 624-8241.

Owen Lester Ramey
Barss Corner - Family and friends were saddened to learn of the death of Owen Lester Ramey, 67, of Barss Corner, on Wednesday, June 27, 1984 at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Northfield. Born in Upper Northfield, he was a son of the late Stanley and Zilpha (Ramey) Ramey. Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Sylvia DeLong; three daughters Marilyn (Mrs. Sidney Jolley), Wolfville; Diane (Mrs. George Joudrey), Barss Corner; Donna (Mrs. Ronald Were), Lower Sackville; three sons, Richard, California; Gary, Bridgewater; David at home; 10 grandchildren - Michael, Peter and Peggy Jolley, MIchele, George and Corinee Joudrey; Blair and Tara Were; Jason and Matthew Ramey. Also surviving are a sister Alice, Cole Harbor; three brothers, William, Warren and Laurie of Barss Corner. He was predeceased by sisters Mildred and Sadie and brothers Gordon, Horace and Harry. Funeral service was held Friday, June 29, 1984 at Barss Corner Baptist Church with Rev. Malcolm Beckett officiating, assisted by Rev. Richard Weaver. Owne's favorite hymn "Amazing Grace" was beautifully rendered by Laura Beckett. Pallbearers were Moyle Naas, Earlen Eisener, Gerald DeLong, Glenn Rafuse, Ronald Chase and Ross Veinot. Interment was in Barss Corner Community Cemetery.

SILVER, Gyneth Marguerite - 79, Rockland, Kings Co., passed away March 25, 1997, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in South Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth Nathan and Lila Mae (Palmer) Silver. She was a graduate of Nova Scotia Normal College (1959) and taught for many years in Rockland and Somerset elementary schools. She was a charter member of Rockland Women's Institute. She was a member of Berwick United Church and for many years was a member of the choir. She enjoyed gardening and working in the family orchard. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Robert Silver, Rockland; daughter, Sherald and husband Reg Patterson, Berwick; son, Keith and wife Corinne, Rockland; sisters, Phyllis Corkum, Gladys (Mrs. Robert Connors), Rockland; brother, Mylon Silver, Fredericton, N.B.; grandchildren, Gary, Gina and Gwen Patterson, Melanie and John Silver. She was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth in infancy, Alvin Silver; sisters, Joan in infancy, Ollie Silver. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in H.C. Linday Memorial Chapel, 192 Commercial St., Berwick. Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Berwick United Church, Rev. Donald C. MacPherson officiating. Burial in Berwick Cemetery. VEINOT, Raymond Issac - 82, Melvern Square, passed away September 12, 2006, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Bloomington, he was a son of the late Owen and Grace (Vidito) Veinot. Raymond retired from G.N. Reagh & Sons Ltd. and after retirement he worked seasonally picking apples, strawberries, doing odd jobs for people and working on farms. He liked the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He is survived by sisters, Ella Mae Fredericks, Nictaux; Jennie (Clarence) Smith, Hebbs Cross; Maxine Lupton, Devon, Alta.; and very good friend "adopted daughter", Kay Veinot. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Merva Lohnes; twin brother, Reginald; brothers, Cecil, Glendon, and Stanley; sisters, Elsie Pelton and Kathleen Elliott. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 15, in Nictaux Cemetery. Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. By request, family flowers only. DOREY, Lloyd William - 65, Bridgewater, died February 28, 1994, at home. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Simeon and Mae (Joudrey) Dorey. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater. He is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Emino; two sons, Amiel, Oak Hill; Frank, Gravenhurst, Ont.; two daughters, Evelyn Dunlap, Bridgewater; June, Truro; four stepsons, Robert Emino, Western Shore; Kenneth Emino, Pine Grove; Richard Emino, Lunenburg; Jeffery Emino, Auburndale; two brothers, Clarence, Riverview, N.B.; Allen, Hebbville; four sisters, Myrna (Mrs. Lawrence Wile), Midville Branch; Phoebe Fancy, Evelyn (Mrs. Clyde Fancy), both of Middlewood; Daisy (Mrs. Murray Nowe), Cherry Hill; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Eldon, Johnnie; three sisters, Grace, Betty, Hazel. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Wednesday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where a legion service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. OICKLE, Clarence Harold - 86, Lower Northfield, Lunenburg Co., died December 12, 1999, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Lower Northfield, he was a son of the late Paul and Martha (Slauenwhite) Oickle. He was employed as a woodsman and farmer all his life. Cremation has taken place under the direction of R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. No funeral by request. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society.

VEINOT, Florence Gertrude - 84, Torbrook, Annapolis Co., after a brief illness, passed away peacefully with her family May 7, 2005, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. She was born January 3, 1921, in Centreville, Digby Co., a daughter of late Bryon and Susan (Cossaboom) Prime. Florence is survived by her children, Aubrey (Margaret) Prime, Winnipeg; Cecil Jr., Torbrook; Robert (Carol), Levack, Ont.; Joan (Milton) Barkhouse, Nictaux; Sandra (Phil) Bezanson, Kingston; Beverly, Torbrook; Rodney (Karen), Torbrook; Deborah (John) Foster, Mount Hanley; Carroll (Sharon), South Tremont; Washington and Clinton, both of Torbrook; Velvet (Lloyd) Veinot, South Nictaux; Archie (Lori), Fort McMurray, Alta.; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many step-grandgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sisters Violet White, Middleton; Anna (Felix) Doucette, New Edinburgh; brother, Melbourne (Lida), Peterborough, Ont. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil; an infant daughter; grandson, Jody Veinot; daughter-in-law, Joyce; sisters, Ida Dakin, Christina Cann, Edith Prime, Helena Best, and brother, Wendell Prime. Our mother was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a very kind and giving person who got to enjoy her later years traveling and visiting her family and friends across Canada. She enjoyed helping others, especially those involved with the Middleton Train Station Museum and will be sadly missed by her niece, Emilie and her husband Ron Johnson. Visiting 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Torbrook Baptist Church, Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Mosher, Clarence Henry Donald - 94, West Dublin, Lunenburg County, died Sunday in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in West Dublin, he was a son of the late Charles and Theresa (LeGag) Mosher. He was a sea-faring man most of his life, except when he served in the Canadian Army during the First World War. He is survived by a son, Robert, West Dublin; a daughter, Gloria (Mrs. Kendall Ritcey), Stanley Section; two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Effie Veinotte; a son, Bain; three sisters, Florence, Josie, Muriel; a brother Robert in infancy. The body is in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. George Wawin officiating.

VEINOT, Rodney Gerald - 24, West Northfield, Lunenburg County, died July 2, 1994, in Hemford, Lunenburg County. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of Cheryl (Veinot) (Veinot) Grantham, Cookville and the late Gerald E. Veinot. He is survived by his stepfather, Charles Grantham; two brothers, Collin, Dennis; sister, Pamela (Mrs. Troy Russell), all of West Northfield; maternal grandparents, Murray and Shirley Veinot, Waterloo, Lunenburg County; paternal grandmother, Bernice Wentzell, West Northfield; a niece. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Wesley Wentzell. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Hoem, Bridgewater. Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Northfield, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. SIMPSON, Carl Eugene - 71. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carl E. Simpson on the evening of May 6, 2009. He died at home, after his battle with cancer, in the care of his loving partner and sons. He was the youngest of two children, (sister, Brenda), born in Simpsons Corner to Leo and Glennis (Joudrey) Simpson (formerly of Simpsons Corner). Carl worked for the former Maritime Tel and Tel for 43 years, starting his career at the age of 18 in 1955. He worked in Yarmouth, Annapolis and many points in between before building his home in Hebbville. In 1977 after serving the IBEW in numerous capacities he became the business manager and immediately began to build a strong relationship between the company and its workers. In 1984, he led the employees of the phone company to organize their own union and the ACTWU was born. He led this union until his retirement in 1998. Along the way he fought for jobs and better working conditions for all who were part of the labour force. He was a man of strong labour principles and was active in many organizations. He served as both a Scout Master and a Cub Master in both Annapolis and Bridgewater. He was one of the founding members of the Hebbville Fire Department. He was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. He once ran for the NDP, and felt that the rights of many should be respected in life and in politics. He loved cutting wood and often worked the family land in Simpsons Corner. He was an associate member of the Bridgewater Legion and worked with Royal LePage selling real estate after he retired from the union and phone company. Carl enjoyed travelling, especially with his spouse, Darlene Corkum. He loved country music and played both guitar and harmonica. In later years he fell in love with golf and loved to walk the course chasing the elusive perfect game. He rode a motorbike his whole life and drove it on beautiful days with a smile on his face. He was a loving spouse, a great dad and a community leader. Left to mourn his loss and treasure his memory are his life partner, Darlene; children, Rockey and Timmie; grandchildren, Carley, Shanna and Kaida; niece, Shelby; nephew, Reg; numerous cousins, including Carroll and Cheryl. Many thanks to the wonderful people who were part of Carl's life. Thank you for the warm prayers and the many years of friendship. We will always treasure his memory and the lives that he has touched. Visitation for family and friends will be 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service 11 a.m., Saturday in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. Rev. Robert Coote officiating, assisted by Rev. Eric Campbell. Private family interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Alma May Joudrey - 87, Bridgewater, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2009 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late Violet (Taylor) Alves and step father Tony Alves. Alma worked for many years as a legal secretary and was the deputy Registrar for the office of the Registry of Deeds, Bridgewater. She later worked at the V & V Canteen. She was currently a volunteer at Pleasant Rest Home and has been for many years. She was well known for her cherry balls and peanut butter squares. Alma loved to play bingo and eating out, she enjoyed spending quality time with her beloved cat, Snoopy. She will be forever missed by her loving daughters, Marcia (Gerald) Corkum, Midville Branch; Patti Arenburg, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Steven (Tanya) Crouse; Michael (Tanya Joudrey) Crouse; Nikole Arenburg; step grandsons, Andrew Corkum; Michael (Trudy) Corkum; five step great grandsons. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas F. Joudrey, half brother, Billy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater and where funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday. Rev. Sarah Scott officiating. Burial to follow in the Brookside Cemetery. OXNER, OWEN W. - 89, Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, died Wednesday in Harbour View Haven. Born in Lunenburg. He was a son of the late Wallace and Alice Oxner. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frances Swift, Dartmouth; a son, Dorne, Lunenburg; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife the former Maisie Knock; a sister Ruby; a brother Bert. The body is in Dana L. Sweeney Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Visiting 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Flowers from immediate family only.
