VEINOTTE, Ferne A. - 84, Western Shore, Lunenburg Co., died Sunday, January 1, 2006, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, with her daughter by her side. Born in Western Shore, Ferne was the youngest and last surviving daughter of Noah and Alma (Hatt) Mosher. Ferne was a lifetime member of Western Shore Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher. Ferne received her post secondary schooling at the Provincial Normal College, graduating in 1939. She was an exceptionally gifted teacher in various schools in New Glasgow and throughout Lunenburg County. The last 20 years of her 44 year career were spent as a Grade 5 teacher in Bridgewater. Ferne is survived by her only child, Pamela Lynn (John Allard), and her granddaughter, Lynsey, all of Canmore, Alta.; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, D. Brenton; brother, Carroll; sisters, Nellie, Margaret, Blanche, Violet, and Ada. Visiting will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Western Shore Baptist Church, Western Shore, Rev. Dan Green officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Isobel Yvonne Wentzell -78 of Mahone Bay, formerly of Newburne Lunenburg County, passed away Friday 20 February 2009 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Maplewood, Lunenburg County she was the daughter of the late James and Lizzy (Faulkenham) Corkum. Isobel is survived by her daughters Inez (Robert) Dorey, Waldon; Romona (Eugene) Wentzell, Bridgewater; Lorna (Kirk) Meisner, Upper Northfield; Sons Glen (Juanita) Wentzell, Newburne; Alexander (Tammy) Wentzell, Maplewood; sisters Eva Barkhouse, Western Shore; Greta (George) Demone, Cornwall; Daisy Carter, Bridgewater; Olive (Bennett) Sawler, Western Shore; brothers Ellis (Marilyn) Corkum, Ontario; Arlee Corkum (Theresa) Western Shore; Donald Corkum, Bridgewater; grandchildren Virginia, Carman, Miranda, Clifton, Winston, Melanie and Marcella; great-grandchildren Katrina, Jacob, Amelia and William along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Leaman; brothers Carmon, Leon in infancy. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday 28 February 2009 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no services and a private family burial will take place at a later date. WILE, Grace May - 80, Hemford, Lunenburg Co., died October 24, 2005, in Rosedale Home For Special Care, New Germany. Born in Simpson's Corner, she was a daughter of the late Hamilton and Lois (Zwicker) Deamond. Surviving are son, Sheldon (Rosemary), Hemford; sisters, Margaret Leary, Simpson's Corner; Edith MacDonald, New Brunswick; grandson, Chad (Danielle); great-grandchildren, Mattaya and Liam, all of Watford. DeLONG, Ottis Lorraine - 81, Barss Corner, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Barss Corner, he was a son of the late Herman Prescott and Blanche Ethel (Risser) DeLong. Ottis began his education in Barss Corner and completed high school in New Germany. He then studied business at Horton Business Academy, Acadia University, he then studied agriculture at McDonald College, McGill University. Ottis loved farming his entire life, with innovation and hard work he developed a successful egg production, grading and sales business in Barss Corner and was also a Christmas tree producer, shipping his product throughout the United States. He served as National Director of Canadian Egg Producers Council for numerous years. Ottis was a member of Barss Corner United Baptist Church, Barss Corner, where he had been active during his entire life, having served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Ottis is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Estella Marie Joudrey; daughters, Patricia (Greg) Dickie, Truro; Pamela (Allison) McNabb, Red Deer, Alta.; sons, Ralph (Barbara), James (Tina), all of Barss Corner; daughter-in-law, Sue, Peterborough, Ont.; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Jean MacKay, New Germany; Vivian Eisener, Farmington; brothers, Carl (Beatrice), Bridgewater; Harry (Pauline), Springfield; many nieces and nephews. BEALS, Elsie Mae - 76, South Williamston, died February 22, 2004, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Inglisville, she was a daughter of the late Lucy Gaul. She was a very dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her time with the operation of her husband's various businesses. Surviving are her husband, Leslie, South Williamston; daughters, Marilyn (Jack) Shearer, Lawrencetown; Lorraine (Randy) Neily, South Williamston; son, Ted (Patty), South Williamston; sister, Marjorie Wood, Inglisville; brothers, Lloyd (Iris) Gaul, Inglisville; Reg (Deanna) Gaul, Lawrencetown; Ron (Marion) Gaul, Ontario; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mrs. Arthur Robar
The death occurred Monday, September 30, 1968 at Dayspring of Mrs. Arthur Robar (Nellie Zinck) at the age of 57.
Born in Maplewood, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Zinck.
She is survived by her husband; five sons, Harry, Gerald, John, Dayspring; David, Beaver Bank; Wayne, Denver, Colorado; three daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. Mervyn Wagner), Dartmouth; Diane (Mrs. David Fielding), Bridgewater; Elaine, at home.
Also surviving are two brothers, Alvin of Rumford, Maine; Paul, Maplewood; three sisters, Grace (Mrs. Carol Wentzell), North Randolph, Mass.; Ella (Mrs. Sanford Sperry), Farmington, Lunenburg County; Pearl (Mrs. Percy Francis) Upper LaHave; also five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 2, 1968, from Mount Olivet Lutheran Church where service was conducted by Rev. W. Myra.
Interment was in the family plot at Dayspring Cemetery.
KEDDY, Lola Beatrice - 81, Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, died March 29, 1998, in the home. Born in Granville, she was a daughter of the late Forester and Elizabeth (Young) Schaffner. She worked for Nova Scotia Textiles, Bridgetown, then Windsor, retiring in 1981 with over 31 years service. Surviving are her husband, Gordon; daughter, Margaret Taylor, Bridgetown; sons, Ernest Durling, Bridgetown; Frank Durling, Margaretsville; sister, Abigal Taylor, Bridgetown; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. WHITMAN, Bertha Jean —-79, Granville Ferry, formerly of Bridgetown, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Inglisville, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Adelaide (Best) Connell. For 40 years she and her husband managed Chipman Farms in Tupperville, where she was affectionately known as the "Strawberry Lady". Bertha was a member of the Inglisville United Baptist Church and a former treasurer and also taught Sunday school. She was best known for her cooking, baking and decorated cakes. She enjoyed tole painting and loved jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, music and going to variety shows. Bertha loved her family dearly, especially all her grandchildren. Also Bertha and her husband, Lawrence provided a home for many foster children over the years. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence Whitman; daughters, Terry (Gordon) Silver, New Minas; Phyllis (Kevin) McLean, Lequille; Dale Whitman, Dartmouth; sons, Aubrey Whitman (Dianna Schofield), Inglisville; Lawrence Jr. "Sonny" Whitman (Sue Huelin), Herring Cove; sisters, Florence Ruggles, Granville Ferry; Lillian (Al) Foley, Bridgewater; brothers, Floyd (Teresa) Connell, Brantford, Ont.; Loris (Audrey) Connell, Middleton; Vernon (Trinda) Connell, Nictaux; grandchildren, James, Jimmy; Johnny, Carol, Cynthia, Natasha, Tia, Greggory, Kody, Kolin and 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by twin daughters, Jean Stoddart and Joan Connell; granddaughter, Jacqueline; brothers, Walter; Merle; Ivan; Warren and sister, Julia in infancy. VEINOTTE, Shirley Helen - Passed away after a long illness, in Montfort Hospital, Ottawa, Ont., on November 30, 2004, at the age of 69. Beloved wife of Clarence "Clare". Cherished mother of Sandra (Stephen Sowa) and Dave (Kelly Hendricks). Loving grandmother of Brian, Stephanie, Holly, Christopher, Jeffrey and Amber-Lee. She is survived by her sister, Thelma (Jim Brady); her brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. Dennis (Constance) Veinotte, and her sister-in-law, Sandra (Sean) Phillips. She was predeceased by her brother, Ronald, and her sister, Barbara. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and dear friends. WILE (Tufts), Thelma Marie - 67, Wileville, passed away January 31, 2004, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Simpsons Corner, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Tufts and Lillian Tufts (Hyson). She was the wife of the late LeRoy Wile. She was employed at various restaurants in the Bridgewater and surrounding area for 47 years. Her good times were playing cards with her friends, country music shows, and spending time helping and being with her family and friends. She was loved and will be sadly missed by her family, brothers, Stephen Maden and wife Maxine, England; Allan Tufts and wife Ravenna, West Dublin; Albert Tufts and wife Edna, Simpsons Corner; Alden Tufts and wife Sharon, Newcombville; sister, Judy Joudrey and husband Mike, Baker Settlement; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Langille, Daisy Conrad; brother, Alfred Tufts, and four brothers in infancy. No visitation at the funeral home by request.
