RAMEY, William Clayton - 92, Barss Corner, Lunenburg Co., died April 20, 1996, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Northfield, he was a son of the late Stanley Levi and Zilpha (Ramey) Ramey. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield. He was a retired cook of the bridge and building department of Canadian National Railway, working throughout Nova Scotia. He had an interest in flower gardening and bird wildlife. Surviving are daughter, Barbara Foster, Cleveland, Ohio; son, Ronald, Petawawa, Ont.; brothers, Warren, Barss Corner; Laurie, Scarsdale, Lunenburg Co.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mildred, Alice, Sadie; brothers, Gordon, Horace, Owen, Harry in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, both in New Germany Funeral Home, 4895 Rte 10, New Germany, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial in Barss Corner Community Cemetery, Barss Corner. Family flowers only. Donations to New Germany and Area Medical Centre Association or Barss Corner Community Hall.

DARR, Henry L. - 70, West Northfield, Lunenburg County, died August 29, 1994, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in West Northfield, he was a son of Beatrice (Zinck) (Darr) Ramey, Hillside Pines, Bridgewater and the late H. Wilson Darr. He is survived by a daughter, Judy (Mrs. Bruce Crouse), Timberlea; sister, Barbara (Mrs. Percy Veinot), West Northfield; two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Verna Meisner. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or any charity.

SALSMAN, Alice Hazel - 75, Grafton, Kings Co., died September 8, 1995, at home. Born in Maplewood, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late John Amos and Ida (Beck) Wentzell. She was a member of the Christian Women's Club. Surviving are sons, Stanley, Halifax; Fred, at home; Emery, Upper Clements; daughters, Patricia Salsman, at home; Beatrice Salsman, Moncton; brothers, Gilbert, Mahone Bay; Douglas, Newbourne, Lunenburg Co.; Clyde, Woodstock, Ont.; sister, Sadie Salsman, Waterville; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Sidney; daughter, Beverly; brother, Fred; sister, Carrie Mauger. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday, both in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, Rev. Barbara Cochrane officiating. Burial in Berwick Cemetery. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

GREEK, Wilfred Donald - 83, Centre, Lunenburg Co., died Sunday, August 17, 2008, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Sidney and Sarah (Veinot) Greek. Wilfred worked most of his working life with National Sea Products, Lunenburg, later retiring from Parks Canada. He was a member of Central United Church. Wilfred was actively involved with the Oddfellows Lodge, joining the Lakeview Lodge in Springfield in 1949, the Pinegrove Lodge, New Germany, and later transferring to the Rising Sun Lodge No. 59, Lunenburg, where he received his 30 year jewel in 1996. He joined the Encampment in 1973, where he served all ranks of the lodge and received his Royal Purple Degree. In 1973 he joined the Swastika Canton Lodge No. 6, and went through all levels of the lodge and served as Brig. General Dept. Commander from 1983-1984 and the Major General Military Advisor for Canada from 1986-1987. Over the years, Wilfred was also actively involved with the Alexandra Rebekah Lodge No. 22, Lunenburg. Wilfred is survived by his wife, the former Irene Zinck; sons, George (Shirley), Barss Corner; Wilfred Jr. (Diane), North River; daughter, Paulette Hirtle, Ontario; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by infant daughter, Karen, and sister, Pauline. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. A graveside committal service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre. Flowers from the immediate family only. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Central United Church or Canadian Cancer Society.

EISNOR, Pearlie Lemuel - 88, North River, Lunenburg Co., passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Pinehurst, he was a son of the late John Welton and Rosabel Sarah (Mossman) Eisnor. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruby Mae Robar; children, David (Peggy), Wentzell Lake; Paul (Charlene), Bedford; Pearlie, Dartmouth; Vernon (Irene), Bridgewater; Jeffery, Caledonia; Maryanne (Gerald) Penney, Maitland; stepchildren, Ainsley (Helen) Acker, Springfield; Laverne (Donald) Robar, North River; Hallet Acker, Cheryl Acker, both of Bridgewater; Lindsay (Sherry) Acker, Watford; Carolyn (Lester) Daniels, North River; Braimer (Deborah), Halifax; Junior (Janice), Bedford; Judy (Clifton) Aulenback, Springfield; Wendy Joudrey, Calgary; Charlene (Gary), North River, brothers, Leo Eisnor, New Germany; Fred, Pinehurst; many grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Susan Feener; sister, Carrie Drew; brothers, Harry and Kenny, Clayton in infancy. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev. Joan Conrad officiating. Burial at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Judy Smith Memorial Transplant Fund or a charity of choice.

ROBAR, Harold Vernon - 61, East Torbrook, died February 8, 2004, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Leon and Hattie (Bennett) Robar. He worked for McMaster's Mill and Martyn's Mill. Surviving are his wife, the former Agnes Veinot; stepdaughters, Viola (Bernard) Umlah, Halifax; Sylvia Frank, Dartmouth; Carolyn (Barry) Greg, Edmonton, Alta.; brothers, Henry (Terriann Townsend), East Torbrook; Walter (Joyce Charlton), Ward Road; Charlie (Carrie), Ontario; Kenneth, Greenwood; several step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Leona. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Interment in Nictaux Cemetery. Donations to a charity of choice.

RAFUSE, Calvin Alden -70, Upper Northfield, Lunenburg Co., passed away at home on Monday, November 17, 2008, due to an accident. Born in Parkdale, he was a son of the late Frank and Sadie (Faulkenham) Rafuse. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. Surviving are his wife, Joyce L. Veinot; sisters, Reta Rafuse, Winnie Evanston, both of Chicago; Angeline MacDonald, Dartmouth; Belle Rafuse, Halifax; Betty (Murray) Eisnor, Chester Basin; Connie (Jacob) Penney, New Germany; brothers, Gerald (Alice) Rafuse, Frank Rafuse (Viola Blackadar), both of Parkdale; Donald (Charmaine) Rafuse, Dartmouth; Thomas (Margaret) Sauber, Antigonish; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Maxwell and Roby. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Funeral service 10 a.m. Friday in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield, Rev. William Gustafson officiating with a private family interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Upper Northfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church or charity of choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, New Germany.

ELLIOTT, Kathleen Evelyn - 90, Nictaux, died April 29, 2003, in North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry. Born in Bloomington, she was a daughter of the late Owen and Grace (Vidito) Veinot. She was formerly employed at Canadian Cannery and McKenzie Sales. Surviving are son, Shirley (Jean) Pelton, Dartmouth; stepdaughters, Marion (Tom) Arthurs, Greenwood; Elizabeth (Ross) King, Meadowvale; stepsons, Murray (Carole) Elliott, Cole Harbour; Vaughan (Rosemary) Elliott, Nictaux; Gerald (Noreen) Elliott, Middleton; Ron Elliott, Halifax and Spa Springs; Dale (Patricia) Elliott, Nictaux; sisters, Ella Mae Fredericks, Nictaux; Jennie (Clarence) Smith, Hebb's Cross; Maxine (Bill) Lupton, Devon, Alta; brother, Raymond (Merva) Veinot, Aylesford; grandchildren, Tony Pelton, Kathy Guenette; 16 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Eric; several step great and great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by first husband, Alward "Ollie" Pelton; second husband, Matthew Elliott; sister, Elsie; brothers, Cecil, Reginald, Glendon "Dickie" and infant brother, Stanley. Visiting was Thursday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service 2 p.m. today in Nictaux Baptist Church, Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Burial in Nictaux Cemetery. Veinot, Gary Eugene - 60, passed away on February 1, 2005 at Riverview Health Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his family at his side. Gary was born in New Germany, N.S. on December 13, 1944. He went to Winnipeg as a young man. He was predeceased by his father, Herman and sadly missed by his mother, Minnie (Jodrey) and wife, Mary and family. He is survived by his five children, Laura (Ed), Derrick (Jan), Micheal (Sandra), Steven (Marta), daughter, Lisa and nine grandchildren. Gary will be sadly missed by his brothers, Carol (Jacky), Brian (Penny) and families. He is survived by aunts, Phyllis Meisner (Atwood), Ruby Feindel (George), Dorothy Mosher (Carl) in New Germany, uncle, Philip Jodrey, Watford and many cousins in N.S. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at the Chapel of Voyage Funeral in Winnipeg on February 5, 2005. The family would like to thank everyone who reached out to them in so many caring ways with expressions of sympathy at this sad time. It was all greatly appreciated.

CONRAD, Frank Osborne - 88, Maple Ridge Road, Lower Wolfville, passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on October 3, 1998. Born in Leminster, Hants Co., he was a son of the late Arthur and Ellie (Wile) Conrad. During his life he was one of the first members of Hants County Boys and Girls Heifer Club and was the recipient of the Charter Membership Certificate. He was also involved with Boy Scouts of Canada. Later he owned and operated a farm in Lower Wolfville. He has a great love of Clydesdale horses and had attended agriculture exhibitions in the area for over 80 years. He was an avid card player. He was a past member of various agriculture organizations. He was a member of the Anglican church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Grace Jodrey; son, Gordon and wife Kay, Melanson; grandchildren, Scott, Beth, Trent, Peta and Jill; son, Donald and wife Ruth; grandchildren, Kevin, Arthur, Mary Lou; son, Paul and wife Carol, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Marcia, Kim and Tim; son, Laurie and wife Geneva, Melanson; daughter, Gwen and husband Bill Sweet; grandchildren, Brad and Chris; daughter, Linda and husband Robert MacDonald, Middle River, Victoria Co.; grandchildren, Bruce, Heather, Barry and Jeffrey; brother, Roy, Blockhouse, Lunenburg Co.; sister, Mildred Hake, Nine Mile River; 22 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughters, Shirley and Geraldine, both in infancy; sister, Alena; grandson, Craig Sweet. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Wolfville. There will be no visitation. Burial of ashes in St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, for family only. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, at 2 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Church, Wolfville, Canon Douglas Hergett officiating. Family flowers only. Donations to St. John's Anglican Church; Canadian Diabetes Association, Kings Branch, or Wolfville Lions Club.

Harold W. Veinot, age 71 years, passed away quietly at his residence in Toronto, Ontario, Monday, September 9, 1996. He was formerly of Nova Scotia. Husband of Joyce Olive; father of Judith and Brenda and son-in-law Cameron Young; grandfather of Zachary. He is also survived by brothers Clifford, Gordie and Frankie; and sister Margaret O'Brien. He was predeceased by Mom, Dad and brother, Don. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion. Private family cremation has taken place. Burial at a later date. Donations to charity of your choice.

OUDREY, Gerald Ernest "Jerry" - Wentzell's Lake, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully December 22, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, following an accident at home. Born in Mahone Bay August 17, 1929, he was a son of the late Morton and Amynella (Ernst) Joudrey. A gifted baker, Jerry started his career at Young's Bakery, Mahone Bay, and then took great pride in owning and operating the French Pastry Shop in Bridgewater, and bakeries in Lunenburg and Hebbville. Following his retirement in 1979, gardening became his passion and his vegetable gardens were a sight to behold, much to the enjoyment of his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen "Kaye" Hiltz; children, Dachia, Halifax; Beverly, Nanaimo, B.C.; John, Halifax; Teresa, Bedford; grandson, Shaunessey (Susanne); granddaughter, Ashley (Joe); great-grandson, Liam, all of Halifax; brother, Donald (Gloria); sister, Nita, all of Mahone Bay; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by twin sons, Peter James and Paul David, both in infancy. In accordance with Jerry's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. There will be no visitation in the funeral home. A private family memorial service will be held in Park Cemetery, Mahone Bay, at a later date, Rev. Paul Jensen officiating. A reception for family and friends to honour Jerry's life will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 29, in St. John's Lutheran Church Hall, Mahone Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the QEII Health Sciences Centre Brain Research Fund c/o R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgewater. The family would like to thank Dr. Walling and staff of the IMCU, Unit 7.3 of QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, and the nurses and staff of South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, for all the care Jerry received.

HILCHIE, Shirley Olive - 75, Chester, died peacefully Sunday, January 5, 2003, at home. Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Kingsley and Olive (Cook) Publicover. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, F.E. Butler Branch No. 44, Chester; a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary serving as secretary for many years and spent countless hours as part of the catering committee. Besides enjoying bingo, she was an avid card player and belonged to the 45's Marathon Club for over 40 years. Shirley is survived and sadly missed by her loving husband of 55 years, George; son, Bill (Diana); daughter, Joanne (Bob) LeBlanc, all of Chester; grandchildren, Jeffrey Zinck, Chester; Erin (Troy) Pellerine, Gagetown, N.B.; Adam, Shilo, Man.; great-grandsons, Jesse Zinck, Marriott's Cove; Maxwell Pellerine, Gagetown, N.B.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Norma (Aurel) Savoie, Chester; daughter, Susan Elizabeth in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Davis Funeral Home, Chester with a Ladies Auxiliary tribute at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Father Jim McCorriston officiating. A reception to follow in the Royal Canadian Legion, Chester. Burial in Bayview Cemetery, Chester. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester.
