James William Veinot
Mahone Bay, Jan. 31 - The death occurred on Monday evening, of James William Veinot at his home, Clearland, in his 86th year. The deceased was in failing health for the past six months. He is survived by his wife, four sons, William of Somerville, Mass.; Tom of Newton, Mass.; Jessie of Medford, Mass.; and Wallace of Clearland, also three daughters, Cora; Amy (Mrs. Frank Hart), Arlington, Mass; Annie (Mrs. Walter Scott), Cambridge, Mass. The funeral service was held at his late residence on Thursday, conducted by Rev. E.V. Nonamaker, of St. John's Lutheran Church with interment at Hillside cemetery, Clearland. (1941)

HAMILTON, Rosa Marguerite - 79, Litchfield. It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our mother. Rosa passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on June 1, 2006, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Litchfield, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Ruth (McCaul) Sproule. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her entire life to her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Norval Beattie; son, Dana; brothers, Elvin, Aldon and Tillman Sproul. She is survived by sons, Bruce (Melody), Brian (Sharon), Blaine (Wanda), Litchfield; Dale (Monica), Upper Clements; daughter, Karen Lenthall-Ascott (Stuart), West Paradise; grandchildren, Heather (Oliver), Halifax; Aaron (Emma), Vancouver; Alan (Karina), Toronto; Debbie (Mark), Hampton; Danny (Karen), Kentville; Leah (Greg), Clementsvale, and the "light of her life", great-granddaughter, Brooke; stepgrandchildren, Heather (Mike) Hunt, Lorraine, Aaron and Byron Lenthall-Ascott; step great-grandchildren, Ila and Ty Hunt; brother, Malcolm (Doris) Sproul, Greenwood; sisters, Helen Hamilton, Edith (Sandy) Herrick; sisters-in-law, Jeanne, Doris and Phyllis Sproul; many nieces and nephews. Rosa loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and baby great-granddaughter who brought much joy to her in the final months of her earthly journey. Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. today and funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday with Rev. Mark Reece officiating, both in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Interment will be held in Litchfield-Delaps Cove Cemetery. Donations in memory may be sent to Victorian Order of Nurses. Our family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Dill and the staff of Annapolis Community Health Centre, Dr. MacNally, Dr. Woods, staff of the Chemo Unit at Valley Regional Hospital and the staff of the VON for their excellent compassionate care and support during our mother's illness.

RAMEY, Ethel Kathleen - 93, West Northfield, Lunenburg Co., passed away September 3, 2002, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in West Northfield, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Bruhm) Wentzell. She is survived by her daughters, Greta (Robert) Lowe, Bridgewater; Dawn (Jack) Ronayne, West Northfield; grandson, Peter, St. John's, Nfld. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; sister, Helen Cook. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Northfield, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Northfield through the funeral home.

SELIG, Merle Rita - 86, Middle LaHave, Lunenburg Co., passed away July 10, 2005, in the Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Hemford, she was a daughter of the late Judson and Hannah (Veinot) Hirtle. She is survived by her sons, S.J. Wayne (Goldie), Middle LaHave; Brian (Judy), East Chester; granddaughters, Heather, Sarah, and Deborah. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley; sister, Rhoda Conrad. There will be no visitation at the funeral by request. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev. Vivian Moores officiating. Burial will follow in Middle LaHave Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Middle LaHave Cemetery Fund, Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg or a charity of your choice.

MACDONALD (Rafuse), Angeline Irene "Ann" - Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2009, after a valiant battle with cancer. Originally from Parkdale, Lunenburg Co., she was the fourth of 13 children of the late Frank and Sadie (Faulkenham) Rafuse. She is survived by her daughter, Beverley Busson (Phil Fairhead); son, Danny, and daughter, Janice (Rob) Scott, as well as grandchildren, Erin, Brent, Michael, and Adam of whom she was fiercely proud. She is also survived by sisters, Reta Rafuse, Belle Rafuse, Winnie (Bob) Evanson, Betty (Murray) Eisnor, Connie (Jacob) Penney, and brothers, Jerry (Alice) Rafuse, Thomas (Margaret) Sauber, Frank Rafuse (Viola Blackadar), Donnie (Charmaine) Rafuse, and many nieces and nephews, both real and unofficially adopted by "Aunt Ann". She was predeceased by husband, Earl and brothers, Max (Beulah), Roby (Vivian), and Calvin (Joyce) Rafuse. Ann enlisted in the CWAC (Canadian Women's Army Corps) at age 16 and served during the Second World War. She then graduated from the Maritime Business College and spent many years working in the retail industry. She was a very active volunteer for numerous worthy charities and organizations including the C.C.B. (Canadian Council of the Blind) club in Dartmouth. Ann was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch, and proudly represented women in the Armed Forces through her participation in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. Later in life, Ann joined the Corps of Commissionaires, and worked in the security department at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia until she became ill in October. She enjoyed bowling, vacationing with her family, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Burial will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main St. at 1 p.m. Thursday, followed by a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Thursday in South End Baptist Church, 60 Hastings Dr., Dartmouth, Rev. P. Nesbitt officiating, reception to follow in the church hall. Ann actively supported and attended the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Parkdale/Maplewood Cenotaph, and in lieu of flowers she requested that donations be made to the Parkdale/Maplewood Cenotaph Fund c/o Emmanuel United Baptist Church, 3142 Barss Corner Rd., Lunenburg Co. NS B0R 1A0, or to Emmanuel United Baptist Church of the same address, or to South End Baptist Church at 60 Hastings Dr., Dartmouth, NS B2Y 2C6.

LANGILLE, Harold Leon - 83, Bridgewater, died October 22, 1993, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Artemus and Annie (Bullivar) Langille. He was the founder and first president of H & B Langille's Print Ltd., Bridgewater. He was a member of Bridgewater United Baptist Church; an honorary member of Bridgewater Fire Department, serving over 40 years of which 19 were as chief; a band master for many years with the Bridgewater Firemen's Band; past president of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association and the Chief Fire Officers Association. He was also a member of the IOOF LaHave Lodge 60 and Rebekah Lodge of Bridgewater. He was instrumental in helping to form many rural fire departments in Lunenburg County. He is survived by his wife, the former Bernice Fancy; two sons, Ronald, Fancy Lake, Lunenburg County; Glendon, Bridgewater; daughter, Shirley-Ann (Mrs. Donald Sullivan), Halifax; brother, Raymond, Blysteiner Lake, Lunenburg County; sister, Lillian Telfer, Bridgewater; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, William; sister, Buelah; grandson, Craig. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Bridgewater United Baptist Church, Rev. Hugh McNally officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation, Bridgewater United Baptist Church or Bridgewater Fire Department.

WENTZELL, Wesley E. - 87, West Northfield, Lunenburg County, died July 25, 1993, at home. Born in West Northfield, he was a son of the late Robert and Lydia (Conrad) Wentzell. He is survived by his wife, the former Bernice Veinot; two sons, Robert, James, both of West Northfield; eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stellman, Roger; two sisters, Alma Silver, Arlene Veinot; stepson, Gerald Veinot. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's FuneralHome, Bridgewater. Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Northfield, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Donations may be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church or any charity.

LANGILLE, Bernice Viola - 83, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., died July 2, 1995, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper Northfield, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late George and Clara (Seamone) Fancy. She was a founding members of H&B; Langille's Print Ltd., Bridgewater; first president of Bridgewater Fire department ladies auxiliary; member of Bridgewater United Baptist Church; Atlantic Rebekah Lodge 52 and received her 50 year jewel on January 7, 1991. She was past nobel grand and a member of the past nobel grand club. Surviving are her sons, Ronald, Fancy Lake, Lunenburg Co.; Glendon, Bridgewater; daughter, Shirley-Ann (Mrs. Donald Sullivan), Halifax; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; sisters, Beatrice, Florence, Eva, Vera; brothers, Ray, Robert; grandson, Craig. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Rebekah Lodge service 7 p.m. Wednesday, both in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday in Bridgewater United Baptist Church, Pastor Roxanne McGraw officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Donations to Bridgewater United Baptist Church, South Shore Regional Hospital foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Bridgewater Fire Department.

FALKENHAM, Ernest Theodore - 84, Maplewood, Lunenburg County, died April 28, 1993, in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Maplewood, he was a son of the late Thomas and Olive (Jodrey) Falkenham. He worked as a farmer and woodsman. He is survived by three daughters, Eleanor Grace, Bridgewater; Mary (Mrs. William Alexander), Stanley Section; Wilma (Mrs. Cecil Dorey), Mahone Bay; two sons, Gilbert, Maplewood; Myles, Upper LaHave; sister, Lizzie Corkum, Maplewood; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Marie Spidle; second wife, the former Hazel Davison; third wife, the former Jean Robichard; two sisters, Beulah, Sadie. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, New Germany, Mr. Carson Falkenham officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Donations may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, New Germany or Canadian Cancer Society.

RAFUSE, R. Belle — 81, a resident of Drummond Hall, Parkland Estates, Halifax, died April 6, 2010, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Originally from Parkdale, Lunenburg Co., Belle was the fifth child of 13 children born to Frank and Sadie (Faulkenham) Rafuse. Following a short teaching career, she graduated from Maritime Business College, Halifax, and went on to work as a secretary for the Federal Department of Immigra­tion and ended her career in the Treasury Board Department. She retired to Halifax where she became busy quilting, knitting, sewing, cooking and baking. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed being a member of the Hali­fax Walking Club. Belle is survived by her sisters, Reta Rafuse, Schaumburg, Ill.; Winnie (Bob) Evanson, Elgin, Ill.; Betty (Murray) Eisnor, Ches­ter Basin; Connie (Jacob) Penney, New Germany; brothers, Jerry (Alice), Parkdale; Thomas (Margaret) Sauber, Antigonish; Frank (Viola Blackadar), Parkdale and Donnie (Charmaine), Dartmouth; numerous nieces and ne­phews. She was predeceased by her sister, Angeline MacDonald and brothers, Max, Roby and Calvin. A graveside service and committal will take place 2 p.m. today in Parkdale-Maplewoood Cemetery with Rev. Don Dunn officiating. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Belle may be made to the Parkdale-Maple­wood Cemetery Fund, c/o Joan Zwick­er (1-902-644-3295) or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia (902-423-7530). ROBAR, Georgina Lillian - 69, Martin's River, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2007. Born in Springfield, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Estella (Robar) Arenburg. Georgina lived in Martin's River for 35 years and was well loved by everyone. She was an avid bingo and crib player and cards of any kind. She was kind and gentle and will be sadly missed by her family. Surviving are her sons, Ricky (Donna), Calgary, Alta.; Michael Robar, Kelowna, B.C.; daughters, Vicki Veinot (Larry), Calgary, Alta.; Cathy Rafferty, Martin's River; Sharon Robar (Melvin), North River; sister, Grace Hubley, Bridgewater; niece, Darlene Slauenwhite (Lloyd), Lower Northfield; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her companion, Russell Dorey; brothers, Carey, Max and Laurie Arenburg. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A memorial service for Georgina and her companion Russell will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Private family burial will take place following the service. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Diabetes Association.

OXNER, GRACE EVELYN (Strickland), 77, Garden Lots, Lunenburg County, formerly of Blue Rocks, Lunenburg County, died Wednesday in Fisherman's Memorial Hospital. Born in Blue Rocks. She was a daughter of the late Ellison and Evelyn (Frittenburg) Hynick. She was a retired employee of National Sea Products, Lunenburg. She was a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blue Rocks.
She is survived by her companion, Alphonse LeBlanc; two sons Clayton Strickland, Blue Rocks; Charles Strickland, Fauxbourg, Lunenburg County; a sister Melrose Miller, Lunenburg; four grandchildren; a great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Strickland, her second husband Bert Oxner.The body is in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home Lunenburg. Visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blue Rocks, Rev. Robert Coote officiating. Burial will be in Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery. Immediate family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or any charity.

HILTZ, Jennie A. - 90, Martin's River, Lunenburg County, died February 22, 1994, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Northfield, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Ellen (Slauenwhite) Slauenwhite. She was a lifelong member of St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martin's River and an active member of the Indian Oak New Horizons Club, Indian Point and Ocean View Senior Club, Western Shore. She is survived by a daughter, Isabel (Mrs. Charles Mason), Bridgewater; three sons, Aubrey, Blockhouse; Calvin, Percy, both of Martin's River; sister, Mrs. Lillie Aulenback, Western Shore; brother, Reginald, Sweetland; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Nereus Barry; second husband, Percy Hiltz; daughter, Amy (Hiltz) Jardine; three sons, Leland Barry, Warren Barry, Bruce Hiltz; six sisters, Grace, Elva, Ola, Lois, Edna, Daisy; three brothers, Willie, Robbie, Charles. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martin's River, Rev. Carolyn Tomlin officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery, Martin's River. Immediate family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Martin's Foundation Fund or any charity.
