JODREY, Clarence Selvyn Sr. - 76, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., died June 12, 1997, at home. Born in Watford, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Theophilus Jonathan and Edna Victoria (Whynot) Jodrey. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Army based in Halifax. He was a past employee of Zwicker's Box Factory, New Germany, and was later a commissionaire with Riverport Seafood's. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102 and St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Surviving are son, Kent, Branch LaHave; sisters, Minnie (Mrs. Herman Veinot), Winnipeg, Man.; Phylis (Mrs. Atwood Meisner), New Germany; brother, Philip, Watford; a granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Thelma Marie Oickle; sons, Derek, Clarence Jr.; brothers, Lorraine, Russell, Bruce. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, legion service 7 p.m. today, both in New Germany Funeral Home, 4895 Rte. 10, New Germany. Funeral 3:30 p.m. Monday in St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, Rev. Alvin James Robar, 76, of North River, Lunenburg County, died Saturday, April 20, 1985, in the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in North River, he was the son of the late Howard and Mary (Veinot) Robar. He was a woodsman and worked for the Mersey Paper Company most of the time, until twelve years before he retired he worked for Turner's Mill, West Northfield. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. for thirty years and was a member of Lakeview Lodge, Springfield, until it closed. He then became a member of Pinegrove Lodge, New Germany. He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Acker; one daughter, Shirley Robar, North River; one son, Basil, New Germany; one sister, Verna Robar, North River; two brothers, Maurice, North River and Oscar, Watford; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Ada; and two infant sisters. Funeral service was held at St.Paul's Lutheran Church on Monday, April 22, 1985, Pastor Richard Weaver officiated with interment in the church cemetery. Hymns sung were "Amazing Grace, " "Beautiful Saviour, " and "Now Thank We All Our God, "with organist David Zwicker. Pallbearers were Charles Jodrey, Lemuel Lohnes, Ronald McQuarrie, Cyril Acker, Bruce Veinot, and Kerry Whynot.
VEINOT, Ruth Annabelle - 71, New Germany, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany. Born in North River, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary (Sarty) Robar. She resided most of her life in New Albany with husband Vernon and their family. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of New Albany as well as a past choir member. She is survived by husband Vernon, New Germany; sons, Michael (Cathy), Peter, all of Kingston; Mervin Veinot, Halifax; daughter, Mary (Kevin) Frank, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Kyla and Matthew Veinot, Drew and Delaney Frank; sisters, Esther Robar, North River; Florence (Merlin) Acker, Bridgewater; Janet (Donald) Doucette, North River; brothers, Marcus Robar, Paul (Judy) Robar, all of North River; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son, Stanley in infancy. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Epworth United Church, New Germany, Rev. Joan Conrad officiating. Interment will be at a later date in New Albany Cemetery. KAULBACK, Glennie E. - 73, Oakland, Lunenburg Co., died March 6, 1996, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Maitland, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Ida (Ernst) Demone. EVA JANE VEINOTTE - 92, Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of Nicholsville, died June 10, 2004, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Factorydale, Kings, Co. she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Nora (Banks) Hiltz. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Born in North River, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Ella (Daniels) Acker. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley, Watford; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alvin James; son, Basil; brother, Alvin; half-brother, Harold. SPROUL, Tillman Burton - 68, Litchfield, Annapolis Co., passed away July 15, 2005, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Litchfield, he was the youngest son of the late Edwin R. and A. Ruth (McCaul) Sproul. He had an abiding love of family and was always a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Together with his sons, he operated the lobster vessel Sproul Boys II out of Delaps Cove. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne (the former Mary Jeanne Bertrand of Halifax); sons, David Tillman (Joy) and Colin Elvin (Shauna), both of Litchfield; cherished grandsons, Brandon and Justice. He is also survived by brother, Malcolm (Doris), Tremont; sisters, Helen Hamilton and Rosa Hamilton, both of Litchfield, and Edith Herrick (Sandy), Meadowvale; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sproul, Doris Sproul, Kathleen Neves and Bonita Mercer (Gerald), and brother-in-law, Paul (Carol) Bertrand, Toronto, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Elvin and Aldon; brothers-in-law, Arthur Hamilton, Norval Hamilton and Garnet Neves; nephews, Dana Hamilton and Steven Mercer. NOWE, Leo Owen - 68, Parkdale, Lunenburg Co., passed away January 5, 2000, at home. Born in Blockhouse, he was a son of the late Milbreane and Hilda Nowe. He was a woodsman and mill worker with Murray Reeves, The Forties, Lunenburg Co., prior to retirement. Surviving are his sons, Jerry and wife Sharon, Conquerall Mills; Steven and companion Noreen Moser, Halifax; Andy and wife Barbara, Parkdale; his grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica, Kaitlin and Steven Jr.; several brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews. DeMONE, Laurie Reginald - Cherryfield, Lunenburg Co., died Wednesday, September 13, 2000, in the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in North River, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Pearlie and Lettie (Robar) DeMone. He worked at Bowater, Mersey as a chef for many years later becoming Chief Chef at the Mersey Lodge. He was past president, chartered member and life member of New Germany and Area Lion's Club. He was well known for the ham suppers he organized for the Lion's Club. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, where in his early years he was very active. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, New Germany Branch 102. Surviving are his wife, the former Elva Robar; daughters, Theresa Simms, Cherryfield, Marsha DeMone, Ginny Penney, New Germany; Janice Hetu, Barrie, Ont.; sons, Barry, New Germany; Glenn, Scarsdale; Joey, Crousetown; brothers, Everett, Carol, North River; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. JODREY Clarence S. Jr., - 47, Upper Northfield, Lunenburg County, died June 17, 1994, in Victoria General Hospital. Born in New Germany, he was a son of Clarence Sr. and Thelma (Oickle) Jodrey. He is survived by his wife, the former Donna Arenburg; daughter, Alissa Marie, at home; brother, Kent, Branch LaHave. He was predeceased by a brother, Derick. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. No flowers by request. Theophilus Jonathan Jodrey passed peacefully away at Watford on Sunday March 18th. Age 78 years. March 18, at the age of 67 years. He was born at Watford, April 9, 1883, where he spent his entire life and carried on extensive farming operations until about a year before his illness. The deceased was confined to his bed for three months and was tenderly cared for by his wife and children. His sudden death came as a shock to his many relatives and friends. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. Left to mourn their loss are his wife, the former Miss Edna Whynot, of Whynott's Settlement; two daughters, Minnie, Mrs. Herman Veinot; Phyllis, Mrs. Atwood Meisner, both of New Germany; five sons, Russell and Bruce of Pleasantville; Clarence, New Germany; Lorraine at Pinehurst, and Philip at home; one sister, Lida, Mrs. Leigh Veinot, New Germany, 13 grandchildren, and two step grandchildren. The late Mr. Jodrey was a faithful member of St. John's Anglican church, New Germany, where he served as vestryman for some years. The funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon at St. John's Anglican church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. R. Martell. Interment was in the Anglican cemetery. (1951)
