ROBAR, Esther Loretta — 80, of Bridgewater, formerly of Cookville, passed away peacefully in Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater, Saturday, March 13, 2010. Born in Fauxburg, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Beatrice (Keddy) Vei­not. Esther loved her family, adored children and animals. She is survived by daughters, Heather Wagner-Brine (Colin Brine), Bridgewater; Sandy (Michael) Conrad, Wileville; sons, Sheldon (Debbie), Mill Village; Ge­orge, Scarborough, Ont.; L. William, Hallendale, Fla.; David (Nancy) Bridgetown; daughter-in-law, Lor­raine Robar, Toronto; 24 grandchil­dren; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; brother, Perry (Evelyn) Veinot, Northwest; sister-in-law, Lois Veinot, Fauxburg; many nieces and nephews. Prede­ceased by her husband, Clyde Robar; brothers, Earl and Sydney; sons, Law­rence, Charles, Merle and one in in­fancy; sisters, Mildred, Hazel, Franc­es, Susie and Maude; son-in-law, Lloyd 'Snooky' Wagner; daughter-in-law, Norma Robar. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home Bridge­water with visitation 7-9 p.m. today and where service will be 2 p.m. Tues­day, March 16. Rev. Willis Ott officiating. SARTY, Annie Myrtle - 98, Annapolis Royal, passed away January 9, 2006, in Annapolis Community Health Centre. Born in Youngs Cove, August 19, 1907, she was the oldest daughter of the late Charles and Stella (Hudson) Kearnes. She was a member of St. George and St. Andrew United Church, a lifetime member of the Women's Missionary Society and a charter member of Granville Ferry United Church Women. She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Smith (Byron), Brantford, Ont.; Marguerite Gauthier (Donald Smith), Annapolis Royal; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great great-grandsons; brother, George, Kingston, Ont.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter; brothers, Otto in infancy, James Clifton, Lealand, Randolph, Clarence, and Charles; sisters, Adeline and Alice. She is also survived by her extended family at Saunders Rest Home, all of whom she came to love dearly. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal, Rev. Alfred Woodworth officiating. Private family interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Annie's memory may be sent to Annapolis Community Health Centre or a charity of one's choice.

KNICKLE, Ferne Diane - 54, Northwest, Lunenburg Co., passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2001, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Lower Northfield, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Kathleen (Veinot) Oickle. Ferne was very active over the years and in her earlier life was employed at Lockie's Cottages, Mahone Bay; Kinley's Drug Store, Lunenburg and later worked at Tingle Bridge Tea Room, Mader's Cove. She then went on to deliver the local mail and later worked for 12 years at the Wet Fish Department of National Sea Products Ltd., Lunenburg. During her life, Ferne was a representative for Tupperware and Avon. She had a great passion in her spare time for flea markets and yard sales. She enjoyed line dancing and spending time at home with her family and friends. Ferne is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Pam, Northwest; son, Ricky and his wife Michelle, Bridgewater; grandson, Tyler; sister, Sally and her husband George Hirtle, Lapland; brother, Leslie and his wife Dawn Oickle, Northfield; stepsisters, Marlene Swinemar, Western Shore; Susan and her husband Elliott Oickle, Lower Northfield. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Michael Hawkins and Rev. Willis Otts officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Flowers from immediate family only, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to any other charity.

Leslie N. Veinotte
The community of Wileville was saddened on Wednesday, July 7, 1976 by the passing of Leslie N. Veinotte, 53, at Millers Hospital, Kentville.
Born in Newcombville, he was the son of the late Hugh and Hilda (Hebb) Veinotte.
He was a barber in Wileville for many years, also chief of the Fire Department the past few years.
He is survived by three sisters, Jewll (Mrs.Murray Veinotte), Midville Branch; Mrs. Joyce Baker, Newcombville; Thelma (Mrs. Clement Leslie), Oakville, Ontario; two brothers, Ronald, Midville Branch and Eric of Bridgewater.
Funeral service was held from Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater on Friday with Rev. Rolfe Meindl officiating. Interment was in Newcombville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clarence Bell, Harold Wile, Bobby Hebb, Billy Hebb, Martin Hebb, and Bill Corkum.

RAMEY, Mary Elizabeth - 63, Maplewood, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Sylvia (Trethewey) Waterman. Mary was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Newburne, associate member of the Bridgewater Curling Club and former member of the Shelburne Kinette's Club. Surviving are her husband, Nelson; sons, Scott (Cathy), Hammonds Plains; Kevin (Tanya), Dartmouth; sister, Bonnie (Ken) Oickle, New Germany; brothers, Royce Waterman (Maxine), Pleasant River; Earl (Dawn) Trethewey, Halifax; grandchildren, Kyle, Lauren, Ryan, and Jake; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by infant daughter, Christina; stepfather, Roderick "Dick" Trethewey. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Monday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Newburne, Rev. Larry Ehrhardt officiating. Private family interment in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Newburne. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

BUTLER, Perry Archibald, Sr. — 86, Granville Ferry, passed away suddenly in Northhills Nursing Home, on Friday, October 9, 2009. Born November 24, 1922, in Forest Home, he was the ninth child in a family of 15 of the late Henry and Sarah (Arenburg) Butler. Perry worked for Nova Scotia Power; on the Annapolis bridge; building HMCS Cornwallis; as a woodsman; mechanic; carpenter and finished his working career with the Dept. of Highways. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He and Leah especially enjoyed being with their RVing friends who attended the many music weekends and jam sessions. Perry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leah (Turbitt); children, Perry (Joyce Spurr), Charlie (Dorothy Spurr), Bill (Donna Lee Henderson), Donna Lou (Gordon) Spurr, Sarah (Larry) Hudson; grandchildren, Pam (Ross), Chris (Amanda), Lloyd (Lois), Beverly (John-Paul), April, Kim (Bruce), Patti, Lee and Terry (Randy); nine great-grandchildren; foster sons, Jackie Crouse and family, and Brian (Stacy) Sibbons and family. He is also survived by sister, Hilda, Trenton, Ont.; Sadie, White Rock; brother, Donald (Sybil), North Alton, and many nieces and nephews. Perry was predeceased by sons, Edward and Gordon; sisters, Gladys Welton, Hattie Dodge, Nellie Ward, Jennie McKinnie, Susie Ells, Leah Jess and Mamie Hudson; brothers, George, Fred, Avard and Edgar. The family wishes to thank the staff of Northhills Nursing Home for all their care and friendship for Perry over the past 18 months. Visitation will be held this evening from 7-9 p.m. with a funeral service to take place Tuesday at 3 p.m., all in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Rev. Canon Ken Vaughan officiating. Interment in Stoney Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, or Northhills Nursing Home.

LANTZ, Bessie Edna - 97, New Germany, died December 1, 1994, in South Shore Regional Hospital. Born in Brookfield Mines, Queens County, she was a daughter of the late John and Annetta (Wentzell) Veinot. She was an organist and Sunday school teacher for Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years and chairperson for Canadian Red Cross Society for 15 years. She was a member of the Bible Society; New Horizon's Club; past member of the Rebekahs and storekeeper for Lantz's General Store for most of her life. She is survived by a son, Chester, Pinehurst; 11 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Avery; daughter, Evelyn; sons, Eugene (Bub), Mervyn in infancy; brothers, Harris, Arthur, Ellard, Randolph, John (Jack). Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany, Rev. Rolf Meindl officiating. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Canadian Red Cross Society.

VEINOT, Harry Emmerson - 85, Auburndale, Lunenburg Co., died January 4, 1997, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Waterloo, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late St. Clair and Sadie (Wile) Veinot. He was a member of Bridgewater United Church; past noble grand of LaHave Lodge 60 IOOF; member of Atlantic Rebekah Lodge 52; honorary member of Midville and District Fire Department and former member of BPO Elk's Lodge 367, Bridgewater. He was a retired auto mechanic. Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Emeno; son, Malcolm, Auburndale; brothers, Wilbert, Lapland; Murray, Waterloo; sisters, Helen Ramey, Bridgewater; Grace (Mrs. Jordon Joudrey), Greenfield; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Ernest, Maurice, Hazen, Lawrence. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, LaHave Lodge service 7 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, all in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Rev. Alexander MacLean officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Immediate family flowers only. SPIDLE, Gordon Beecher — 85, of Mader’s Cove, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010, in Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Northwest, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Manson Guy and Annie Alegra (Ramey) Spidle. Beecher was a member of Northwest United Baptist Church and has served as Deacon, Trustee, Sun­day School Superintendant, volun­teered on various church committees, and was a member and past president of the Baptist Men’s Brotherhood. He will be remembered for the beautiful woodwork he did in the church, the roll top desk donated to Acadia Uni­versity, and the beautiful furniture made for each member of his family. In the life of his community, Beecher served as Fire Chief and Commission­er of the Mader’s Cove Fire Depart­ment He was employed with the Mar­itime Manufactures for 35 years and Design Wood Products Nova Wood Craft for 17 years. Beecher is sur­vived by his loving wife, Jean Eliza­beth (Lantz); daughters, Cindy (John) Donovan, Dartmouth; Kathy (Kevin) Swimm, Upper Kingsburg; son, Tim­my (Cathy Mills) Spidle, Jersey City/ Lunenburg; grandchildren, Nicholas and Naomi Swimm, Jason and Cory Spidle; brother, Olin, Lunenburg. He was predeceased by sisters, Winnie, Dorothy, Grace, Beatrice and Jean; brothers, Duncan and Lloyd; infant sons, Richard and Terry; son, Dwight (five and a half years) and grandson, Kristian Swimm. Funeral arrange­ments are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy No. 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Beecher’s life will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. from Northwest United Baptist Church, Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Interment will be in Northwest Cemetery. Mrs. Beatrice Muriel Lohnes, 64, of Colpton, wife of Henry Lohnes, died Tuesday evening, February 24, 1987, at home after a lengthy illness.Born in Nineveh, Lunenburg County, Febraury 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (Smith) Crouse. She was highly respected and will long be remembered as a kind neighbour and friend to all who knew her.She is survived by her husband, Henry; one daughter, Rena (Mrs. Allen G. Crouse), Colpton; two grandchildren, Chad and Nancy Crouse; four sisters, Bernice (Mrs. Garrett Stockman); Susie (Mrs. Charles H. Jodrey), both of New Germany; Jennie Stockman and Freda Mailman, both of Bridgewater; one brother, Lester, New Germany.She was predeceased by three brothers, Leon, Harold, and Ancle.The body rested at the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. The largely attended funeral was held Friday, February 27, 1987 at 1 p.m. in the Emmanuel Union Church, Hemfod with the Reverend Gary Patterson officiating. Interment was in the Hemford Cemetery.

KAIZER, Clarence Alister - 82, Gold River, Lunenburg Co., died June 17, 1999, in Gold River. Born in Gold River, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Elijah and Lottie (Veinot) Kaizer. He was a retired labourer and prospector for Gold. Surviving are step daughter, Phyllis (Mrs. Alphonse Deveau), Herring Cove; brothers, Robert, Ontario; Basil, Walden; Clements, Gold River; sisters, Merle, Pleasantville; Mary Peters, Calgary, Alberta; Laliah Johnston, Chester Grant; Myrtle Wilneff, Queensland; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former May Charlotte Boudreau; brothers, Melbourne, Maynard, Ensley and James; sisters, Stella, Hazel and two in infancy. Cremation has taken place under direction of Davis Funeral Home. A graveside committal of ashes will be held on Saturday, June 26, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church Cemetery, Chester. Rev. Brian Murphy officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of choice.

SPIDELL, Duncan D. - 81, Northwest, Lunenburg County, died September 17, 1994, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Scarsdale, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Manson Guy and Annie Alegra (Ramey) Spidle. He was a member of Northwest United Baptist Church where he was a deacon; choir member for 58 years; past Sunday school superintendent and member of the Baptist Men's Brotherhood. He had been employed with Maritime Manufacturers for 32 years and also with Design Wood Products, Northwest. At the time of his death he was a sales consultant with Heritage Memorials Ltd. He was an avid woodworker, making violins, wooden clocks and wooden chains. He is survived by his second wife, the former Alice Hunsley; daughter, Frances (Mrs. David Ernst), Dartmouth; three stepdaughters, Bertha (Mrs. Junior Boliver), Branch LaHave; Beatrice DesRoche, Brookdale, Cumberland County; Darlene (Mrs. Robert Black- adar), New Canada; two stepsons, Douglas Kirkpatrick, East Leicester, Cumberland County; William Kirkpatrick, Amherst; four sisters, Winnie Luce, West Boylston, Mass.; Dorothy (Mrs. Millage Gates), The Forties; Jean (Mrs. John Whynot), Halifax; Beatrice (Mrs. Frank Clarkson), Arva, Ont.; two brothers, Olin, Lunenburg; Beecher, Maders Cove; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; numerous stepgreat-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Agnes Berringer; stepdaughter, Lillian; infant brother, Lloyd; sister, Grace. MEDICRAFT, William (Marcel) - 70, Springfield, Annapolis Co., died May 3, 1995, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Albany, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late William Archibald and Vida (Veinot) Medicraft. He worked 50 years as a sawyer, mainly for three mills, Bowaters, Lou Naugler and Kingston Lumber. Surviving are his wife, the former Rossie Arenburg; daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Blair Varner), Bridgewater; sons, Larry, David, Springfield; sisters, Viola (Mrs. Donald Gow), Bridgewater; Elva (Mrs. Everett Bagnell), Sydney; brother, Gordon, Middleton; two grandchildren.
