HILTZ, Reuben Alfred - 76, Chester Basin, died August 7, 1998, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Canaan, he was a son of the late G. Alfred and Elsie (Collicutt) Hiltz. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Chester Basin; Masonic Norwood Lodge 135, New Ross, and the Chester Basin Over 40 Club. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a woodsman, truck driver and had worked for the Department of Transportation for 11 years when he retired. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Pauline Joudrey; daughters, Vera (Mrs. John Reeves), Martins Point; Golda Countway, Calgary; Marcia Bezanson, Bridgewater; son, Roger, Calgary; brothers, Robert (Bob), Canaan; Chester, Russell, both of Chester; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. JOUDREY, Gerald Herbert - 78, 270 Green St., Lunenburg, died June 11, 1995, in Victoria General Hospital. Born in Maitland, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Prescott and Vera (Barry) Joudrey. In his earlier years he worked as a carpenter, and later was employed with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 35 years, and during that time was area supervisor of inspection for Nova Scotia. He served overseas from 19421945 during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Engineers and was mentioned in dispatches for bravery. He was past president of Royal Canadian Legion, Lunenburg branch 23; member and past warden of St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg and very involved in many aspects of church work. He was a worthy patron of Grace chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Lunenburg and master of Masonic Lodge, Chester. He enjoyed his retirement as an avid gardener, hunter and boatman. Surviving are his wife, the former Marion Donaldson; daughters, Janet Currie, Lynn Sorge, Halifax; Brenda McLaughlin, Windsor Road, Lunenburg Co.; son, Gerald Jr., Oakland; sisters, Pauline (Mrs. Ruben Hiltz), Chester Basin; l (Mrs. Roy Campbell), Cape Breton; Evelyn (Mrs. Tom Kelley), Massachusetts; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. VEINOT, Vernon Donald — 77, New Germany, passed away, Thursday, February 11, 2010, in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany. Born in New Albany, he was a son of the late Clyde and Emma (Gates) Veinot. He resided most of his life in New Albany with wife Ruth and their family. In his early years he was employed by E R McMaster & Sons, Kingston. He later owned and operated V&M; Lumber and was a retired bus driver with the Annapolis County School Board. He was a member of the United Baptist Church of New Albany as well as a past caretaker of Pine Grove Cemetery, New Albany. He is survived by sons, Michael (Cathy), Peter, both of Kingston; Mervin, Kempt Shore; daughter, Mary (Kevin) Frank, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Kyla and Matthew Veinot, Drew and Delaney Frank. He was predeceased by wife, Ruth; son, Stanley in infancy; sisters, Agnes, Bessie; brothers, Ronald, Raymond. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 26, in Sweeney's Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. JOUDREY (Donaldson), Marion Bessie - 90, Lunenburg, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Stewiacke on October 31, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lily (Horne) Donaldson. Marion graduated from the Province of Nova Scotia Normal College, Truro, in 1937, and began her 28 year teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Balmoral Mills. She also taught in Belmont, Upper Musquodoboit, Tatamagouche, Truro, Chester Basin, Northwest and Blockhouse, finishing her career teaching Grade 5 and Centre Consolidated School, Lunenburg County. She was a dedicated and caring teacher who had special talents for working with students of all capabilities. Marion was a faithful member of St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, where she acted as a tour guide for many summers. She played an active role in Grace Chapter 8 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She frequently visited the Veterans Unit of Fishermen's Memorial Hospital where she brought comfort to the residents. She was very proud to be a tester for the writing and bird badges for the Girl Guides of Canada. Marion loved to dance and singing was her passion. She was a member of Sea Gals singing group and music played a large part in her life at Harbour View Haven where she was treated like family for the last 12 years. In addition to having a successful career at a time when few mothers worked outside the home, Marion was also a loving and supportive mother and role model. Her life was defined by giving to others, by her empathy, her love of music, and her sense of fun which endured to the end. She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Brian) Richards, Boutiliers Point; Lynn (Bill English) Sorge-English, Halifax; son, Gerald (Jayne Gladwin) Joudrey, Oakland; grandchildren, Beth Shier, Oakville, Ont.; Alyson Currie, Halifax; Naomi Sorge, London, UK; Abe Sorge, Montreal; Isaac Sorge, Halifax; Barbara Mills, Martins Point; Jimmy Rafuse, Middle River, and Michael Rafuse, Alberta; several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; stepdaughter, Brenda McLaughlin; sisters, Marjorie MacRae, Sadie Oake, Carrie Caldwell, and brother, Philip Donaldson. Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Marion's life will be held on Thursday, October 16, at 2 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Michael Mitchell officiating. ERNST, Keith Lorraine -69, Bridgewater, passed away October 28, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was the son of the late Sydney and Effie (Langille) Ernst. Doris Mary (Joudrey) Neily, 75, Northwood Centre, Halifax, formerly of Middleton, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2004 at the New Halifax Infirmary.
Born in Stanburne, Lunenburg County, she was the daughter of the late William and Opal (Carver) Joudrey. She spent her married life in Middleton and area where she was employed as an MTT switchboard operator for a number of years. She was an active member of the Brooklyn United Baptist Church and Brooklyn Women's Missionary Society, and later the Middleton United Baptist Church. In Middleton, she was a Dominion Life member of the Muriel Bent Women's Missionary Society, and an active member and past Noble Grand of the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge #46.
She was a kind and loving mother to surviving son Jerry (Jean), Lewis Lake, Halifax County; and devoted grandmother to Colin and Brendan. Also, surviving are sisters Alma Daurey, Springfield; twin Gladys Wentzell, New Germany; Joyce Oickle, Stanburne; Estella (Otis) Delong, Barss Corner; Phyllis (Mervin) Ritcey, Bakers Settlement; Alice (Charlie) Durling, Barss Corner; brothers Garnet (Viola), Dalhousie; Tracy (Joan), East Dalhousie. She was predeceased by her husband Vernon; brothers Hudson and Oakley; sisters Ruby and Hilda, as well as two sisters in infancy.

Born in Waterloo, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Albert and Sadie (Wile) Veinot. He was a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of Lunenburg County Federation of Agriculture; Bridgewater Farmers Co-op Society; charter member of Lapland and District Fire Department; member of LaHave River Credit Union; Farmer's Co-op Dairy; Progressive Conservative Association of Lunenburg County and Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Growers Association. Pearl Marguerite Falkenham, 96, Conquerall Bank, died July 3, 1997, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Conquerall Bank, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Hattie (Corkum) Rafuse. She taught in several schools in Lunenburg County for 39 years. She is survived by her son, Glenn, Dartmouth; sister, Norma Rafuse, Conquerall Bank; grandson, Matthew and granddaughter, Sarah, both of Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her husband, Selvin; twin sister, Ruby Bollivar; brother, Harold. FEENER, Walter Leo - 73, Wentzells Lake, died July 8, 1995, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in West Northfield, he was a son of the late Harold and Evelyn (Bruhm) Feener. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the First Canadian Division Anti-Tank Regiment. He was employed with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater; Acacia Lodge 39, AF & AM; Mae Chapter 38, Order of the Eastern Star; FSNA, and a former member of Bridgewater Curling Club. He was an adherent of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. JOUDREY, Emery Winslow - It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Emery Winslow Joudrey, age 90, of Blockhouse, Lunenburg Co., in the Veteran's Unit, Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, on May 9, 2009. Born in Maitland, the son of the late Theophilus and Eva Joudrey, Emery was a lifelong resident of Lunenburg Co. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War, stationed in Labrador, N.L. After the war, Emery returned to Lunenburg County where he joined with Stuart Thompson to open and operate South Shore Sales & Service in the Town of Lunenburg, until his retirement in 1983. Emery was a member of St. James' Anglican Church, Mahone Bay and had served on parish council for many years. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 23, Lunenburg. Emery was a long-time member of the Lunenburg Curling Club and Bluenose Golf Club where he indulged in his passions of curling and golf. The highlight of his golfing ambitions was achieved on September 12, 1985, when he made a hole-in-one on the par 3, 13th hole of the Bluenose Golf Course. He was a charter member of South Shore Senior Men's Golf Association. It would take a very sharp player to take him out in a game of cribbage. His home proudly displays his numerous trophies for curling, golf and cribbage. Emery will be remembered for his charisma in developing relationships with family and friends and for his integrity in business. Emery is survived by his loving wife, Lillian (Ernst), Blockhouse; devoted sons, Richard (Brenda), Sackville; Vance, Halifax; grandsons, Brian (Faye), Cornwallis Park; Marc (Jodie Melbourne), Bedford; sister, Hattie Barry, Hillside Pines, Bridgewater; numerous nieces and nephews.
