Jordan Carver Joudrey, 76, Greenfield, Queens County, died November 29, 1997, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Greenfield, he was a son of the late Ernest N. and Leota M. (Carver) Joudrey. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Canadian Army as a gunner overseas in England, Holland, Belgium, Italy, and France. Following the war, he was employed with Hunt Brothers, Harry Freeman's Mill, Greenfield, and Bowater Mersey Paper Co. Ltd., where he worked in the wood room and at the time of his retirement was in the control room. He retired in 1986. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved gardening. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Mersey Branch 38, Liverpool. Surviving are his wife, the former Grace M. Veinot; daughters, Faye, Halifax; Sandra Cardinell, Liverpool; son, Larry, Greenfield; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; sister, Anita (Mrs. Alan Davis), Mersey Point. OICKLE, Alma Lavinia - 98, Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay, formerly of East Dalhousie, died February 10, 1997, in the home. Born in East Dalhousie, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Maria (Oickle) Fancy. WELTON, Gladys Anna - 91, Forest Home, Kings Co., formerl y of Kentville, died June 21, 2000, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Fores t Home, Kings Co., Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (ARENBURG) BUTLER . She was a lifelong resident of the valley area. During the last few months she returned t o Forest Home where she lived under the loving care of her daughter Shirley RUSSELL. She wa s formerly employed with ACA poultry division, New Minas. She was an avid bingo and card play er. She was a member of the Anglican Church of Canada. Alexander Curry Veinot, age 76, of Simpsons Corner passed away February 7, 1973 after a month of failing health, in route to the Dawson Memorial Hospital in Bridgewater. He was born at Hemford, May 26, 1896, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hibbert and Henrietta (Joudrey) Veinot. A veteran of two World Wars and resided at Simpsons Corner until his death. He is survived by a daughter Daisy (Mrs. Claude Simpson) Stanley Section; two sons, Leo of London, Ont. and Noble of Bridgewater; one sister, Olivia (Mrs. Reginald Hyson) Simpsons Corner; two brothers, Howard of Simpsons Corner and Dimock of Aylesford. He was predeceased by two sons, Burlin and Chester, also one brother Clayton. A number of gandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service was held from Langille's Funeral Home, Barss Corner on Friday, February 9th, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Max Spencer officiating. Interment was in the Hemford Cemetery.
Evelyn Beatrice Lohnes, 84, of New Germany formerly of East Dalhousie, Kings County, Nova Scotia, died Sunday, June 27, 1999 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Born in New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Valentine Joudrey and the late Rosella (Acker) Joudrey.
She was a member of St. Cyprians Anglican Church, East Dalhousie.
She is survived by her daughters, Julia and husband Elmer, North River; Carola Acker and husband Kenneth, New Germany; sons Earl and wife Dawn, Vincent and wife Rosemary of East Dalhousie; Bruce and wife Barbara, North River; brother Charles and wife Rhena, Cherryfield; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas; sisters, Annie Robar, Phyllis Foster, half-sister Alice Robar; grandson Lawrence; great-grandson Jeramy.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral service was held in St. Cyprians Anglican Church, East Dalhousie, Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at 2:30 with Rev. Gordon Neish officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Darren Lohnes, Garth Lohnes, Rodney Lohnes, Billy Joe Lohnes, Elmer Whynott and Roland Acker. Honorary bearers were Robert Lohnes, A.J., Jessie and Logan Lohnes.

VEINOT, Murray Stewart - 88, Waterloo Road, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, in the arms of his family. Born in Waterloo, he was the son of the late Albert St. Clair and Sadie Alexandra (Wile) Veinot. He was a Veteran of the Second World War and a retired meat cutter. He was a member of Bridgewater Baptist Church and Liberal Association. He was active in community affairs and instrumental in converting the Little Red School House into the local community hall. His most recent project was collecting data on the history of Waterloo with Blake Wile to be viewed on the internet website "waterloo n.s.com" Murray, known to many as "Boppie", loved being around his family, especially spending time with his "Rug Rats". He loved watching things grow in his gardens, feeding the birds, doing folk art crafts and fixing whatever was broken. He will be missed by his wife of 67 years, the former Shirley Fraser; daughters, Cheryl (Charles) Grantham, Cookville; Ardyth (Ervine) Veinot, Waterloo; sisters, Helen Ramey, Hillside Pines; Grace Joudrey, Greenfield; grandchildren, Pamela (Troy) Russell, Holly (Arthur)Veinotte, Collin (Angela) Veinot, Tom (Tara) Veinot, Maxine (Sid) Bowles, Jay Veinot, Dennis (Amy) Veinot, Michael (Trena) Veinot, and many special foster grandchildren; his great-grandchildren "Rug Rats" include Kayla, Konnor, Jonah, Hunter, Rachel, Logan, Dominique, Jenna and Piper; many nieces and nephews. SPIDLE, Rita May - 93, Clearland, Lunenburg Co., died suddenly February 14, 2002, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Clearland, she was a daughter of the late Seaforth and Effie (Corkum) Hirtle. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church and a long-time supporter of World Vision. Rita is survived by son, Floyd (Jean) Spidle, Clearland; stepdaughter, Grace Heisler, Blockhouse; four grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, sister, Amy Hirtle, Toronto; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Spidle; an infant daughter, Marjorie, brothers, Leslie, Gurney, Laurie, Frank in infancy; sisters, Laura, Lena in infancy. No visitation by request. John Cecil Rafuse, 85, West Inglisville, died Saturday, May 11, 1991 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late John and Ella (Clark) Rafuse. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He was a charter and life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 112, Lawrencetown. He was a member of Annapolis Valley Historical Society and enjoyed a lifelong interest in the arts. He is survived by his wife, the former Celeste Barteaux; three sons, Dean, Red Deer, Alberta; Glenn, Fort St. John, British Columbia; Philip, Annapolis Royal; three sisters, Mrs.Doris Tufts, Yarmouth; Mrs. Jennie Beals, Mrs. Elsie Daniels, both of Middleton; two brothers, Ken Rafuse, Victoria Vale; Fred Rafuse, East Margaretville; eight grandchildren. Ingram J. Wentzell, 87, of Baker Settlement, died Tuesday in Pleasant Rest Home, Bridgewater. Born in Baker Settlement, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Martha Wentzell. Surviving are a son Linnes, Bridgewater; four daughters, Lorna (Mrs. Bert Simpson), Brickton; Gladys (Mrs. Hilton Eisnor), Pinehurst; Ferne (Mrs. Kenneth Sproule), Middleton; and Lillian Meisner, Halifax; two brothers, Maynard, New Germany; and Elvie, Upper Branch; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters Jane and Lyddie; and a brother Amos. The body rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. The funeral service was held October 25 at 2 pm Saturday in Union Church, Upper Branch, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Burial was in family lot, Upper Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lowell Beck, Lester Beck, Calvin Beck, and Mervyn Ritcey.

Lawrence Maurice Hamm, 88, of New Germany, died Saturday, October 26, 1979, in Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Mahone Bay, he was a son of the late Albert and Lucy (Walters) Hamm. He was a retired blacksmith, a charter member of Pinegrove Lodge, No. 111., I.O.O.F. and a 60 year jewel holder from that lodge.Surviving are a son, Beverley, Halifax; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Gladys; a son, Burpee; three brothers, Wesley, Thomas, and Harris; four sisters, Rose, Minnie, Lyll, and Flora. The body was at Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday from St. John's in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Rev. Gordon Rigby officiated. Burial was held at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, Dick Tretheway, Roger Varner, Bruce Veinot, Rufus Robar, Murray Ward, and Cyril Acker. Interment was in the family plot in St. John's in the Wilderness Anglican Church Cemetery.
