VEINOTTE, Mary Ella - 88, Berwick, formerly of Lake George, Kings Co., passed away January 17, 2005, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Millville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Melbourne and Edna (Tupper) Taylor. Mary was well known for the beautiful rugs she hooked as well as her cooking abilities. She was a member of Morristown United Baptist Church. Mary was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed. Surviving are daughters, Yvonne Conrad and Sheila Wiles, both of Berwick; Phyllis (Allen) Amero and Carrie Veinotte, all of Somerset; Evangeline (Raymond) Wiles, Coldbrook; Darlene (Darrell) Martin, Houston, B.C.; sons, Ainslie (Judy) Veinotte, Berwick; Robert (Jean) Veinotte, Stoney Creek, Ont.; Curry (Audrey) Veinotte, Grand Cache, Alta.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Della Lutz, Aylesford; brother, Paul Taylor, Millville. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Veinotte; daughter, Veronica Skinner; sister, Dona Robar; brother, Vincent Taylor. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, January 22, with the funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 23, both in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, Rev. Brian Wheaton officiating. Burial in Morristown Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Morristown United Baptist Church, Valley Regional Hospital Foundation or any charity.

Bertha Lily Joudrey
West Northfield - Bertha Lily Joudrey, 85, formerly of Upper Northfield, passed away January 6, 1990, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper Northfield, December 23, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Obed and Bertha (MacKay) Veinot. She is survived by two sons, Wilfred, West Northfield and Brenton, Toronto; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred; stepmother Lois; two sisters Ethel and Gertrude. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 9, 1990, from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield, with Pastor William Gustafson officiating. Burial in the Upper Northfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Vernon MacKay, Linwood Lantz, Harris Steadman, Mervin Steadman, Douglas Hubley and Arthur Dauphinee.

SLAUENWHITE, Myrtle Mae - 89, Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay and formerly of Sweetland, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2005, in Mahone Nursing Home. Born November 27, 1915 in Maitland, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Obediah and Laura (Rhodenizer) Joudrey. Myrtle was a faithful member of Christ Church, Maitland and was very thankful of her niece, Goldie Aulenback, who always made sure she had a drive to church. A giving lady, she was a friend to all. She took great interest in her flower and vegetable gardens. Myrtle is survived by daughter, Elaine (Frank) Corkum, Chester; sons, Roger (Ann), Big Lots; Douglas (Vera), Sweetland; sisters, Olive Whynacht, Bridgewater; Gertrude Dauphinee, Maitland; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Emery; brothers, Cecil and Dawson. Visiting will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Christ Church, Maitland, Father Ian Wissler officiating. Burial will be in Sweetland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Christ Church or any other charity through Mahone Funeral Home.

TUFTS, Doris Ferne - 88, of Bridgetown, formerly of Yarmouth, died Saturday July 2, 2005, in Mountain Lee Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late John and Ella (Clarke) Rafuse. She was a very active member in Zion Baptist Church, Yarmouth, and a supporter of the Y.M.C.A. in Yarmouth. She is survived by son, John (Cheryl), Paradise; grandchildren, Andrew (Katherine), Peter, Sarah, and great-grandchild, Madeline. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary, Elsie, Jennie; brothers, Jack, Harley, Harvey, Fred, Ken, and Everett. Memorial service will take place Wednesday, July 6, at 2 p.m. in Middleton Funeral Home (902) 825-3448, Pastor Danny Smith and Rev. John Bears officiating. Private graveside service to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.

CROUSE, Lulu Mae - 92, Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, formerly of Nineveh, Lunenburg Co., died November 10, 1995, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper Branch, she was a daughter of the late Elkanah and Bertha (Winters) Hirtle. Surviving are daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Oren Smith), Pinehurst; Marion Acker, Springfield; Goldie Wagner, North River; son, Burgess, Nineveh; sisters, Margaret Meisner, Nineveh; Greta Wentzell, New Germany; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 13 great-greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Archibald; sister, Nellie. Funeral 2 p.m. today in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Rev. Chess MacKenzie officiating. Burial in Smith Cemetery, Nineveh. Immediate family flowers only. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany.

LANGILLE, Herbert Maxwell - 90. On November 25, 2006, Herbert left his earthly home to be with his Lord. He was born in 1915 to the late Charles and Lillas (Fancy) Langille of Farmington, Lunenburg Co. Herbert moved to the Valley in 1943 and operated a dairy farm in Brooklyn, Annapolis County. He was a member of Middleton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He lived a rich full life. His main interests were his family, making sure they were aware of Salvation through Christ, his church, and lending a helping hand whenever possible. He will be missed by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Cyril (Joy), Lawrencetown; Leon (Brenda), Brooklyn; Eric (Judy), Greenwood; Paul (Margaret), Brooklyn; daughter, Roselie (Jean) Gignac, Halifax; foster son, Donald Rhoddy, Keswick, Ont.; grandchildren, Derek (Toni) Langille, Christy (Mike) O'Neill, Amber (Dana) Archer, Michelle Gignac (Phillip), Camille Gignac (James Weibe), Marc Gignac, Lisa (Alex) Levy, Peter (Rachel) Langille, Pamela Langille, Jacqueline Langille (Dan), Stacey Langille, Nathan (Lisa) Langille, and Noelle (Mark) Messom; foster grandchild, Lisa Paquette, Quebec; six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy; brothers, Ralph and Ellory. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. today in Middleton Funeral Home (902) 825-3448. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, in Middleton Baptist Church, Rev. Danny Smith and Rev. Donald Robertson officiating. Private family interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only. CORKUM, Roland Herbert - 77, Middle Cornwall, Lunenburg Co., died January 1, 1997, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Churches Lake, Upper Cornwall, he was a son of the late Rodney Lawrence and Jenny Pearl (Ritcey) Corkum. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater. Surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Laura Corkum, Bridgewater; his wife, the former Phyllis Marie Wile; daughters, Sheila Maureen (Mrs. Rodger Bolliver), Branch LaHave; Elaine Marie (Mrs. John MacInnis), Bridgewater; Patricia Lynn (Mrs. Randall Whynot), Hebbville; sons, Rev. Roland Herbert Jr., Burnaby, B.C.; Darrell Wayne, Middle Cornwall; Eric Leon, Pine Grove; Rodney Lyndal, Oakhill; Richard John; Western Shore; David Roland, Middle Cornwall; sister, Ethel (Mrs. Claude Veinotte), Berwick; brother, Percy, Bridgewater; half-brothers, Glen, Gerald, Midville Branch; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by half-brothers, Douglas Jefferson; two in infancy; a grandson in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. No visitation by family request. Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday in New Cornwall Baptist Church, Revs. Barbara and Brad Putnam officiating. Burial in church cemetery, Middle Cornwall. VEINOTTE, Mavis Arline - 88, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away Friday, November 5, 2004, in Rosedale Home for Special Care, where she had been residing. Born in Newburne, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Sanford) Corkum. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 12. Mavis was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Union Square and a trusty member of Rosedale New Horizon's Club, New Germany. Her greatest love, after her family, was music and she enjoyed playing the organ, accordion and tambourine. She loved to cook, sew and provide a bounty of food for friends and family, and would often dance her way around the house. Surviving are daughters, LaVerne Joudrey, New Germany; Linda (Arthur) Brown, Robinsons Corner; the pride and joy of her life were grandchildren, Shelly (Jeff) Langille, Barss Corner; Avan (Lisa) Joudrey, New Germany; Mercedis (Paul) MacKinnon, Upper Branch; Dana (Angie) Eagles, North River; Landis Eagles (Alice Daniels), Cherryfield; Angie Eagles (David Burlingame), Bridgewater; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Jessica, Michelle, Jennifer, Kyle, Emma, Alex and Kaitlyn; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved and loyal husband, Clinton, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage; sisters, Sadie and Ada; brothers, Clarence, Alvin, Wallace, Stanley, Naaman, Lawson, Lindsay, Enos and Doran in infancy. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Union Square, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Union Square Cemetery, Union Square. Donations may be made to Canadian Liver Foundation, Halifax Chapter, Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or a charity of choice.

Maxwell James Wile, 65, Wileville, Lunenburg County, died March 28, 1997, at home. Born in Wileville, he was a son of the late Fred and Vera (Oickle) Wile. He was owner of Wile's Electrical until retirement due to ill health. Surviving are his wife, the former Eva Acker; son, James, Laconia, Lunenburg County; daughter, Donna Himmelman, Dartmouth; brothers, Leslie, Cookville; Daniel, Wileville; sisters, Lena Smith, Bridgewater; Linda (Mrs. Ross Publicover), Brampton, Ontario; Betty Northrup, Halifax; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter, Deborah, in infancy; sister, Edith. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Monday in St.Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev. James Slack, Jr., officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Spina Bifida Association of Nova Scotia or to the family.

J. CURTIS RAFUSE DIES AT 102
RAFUSE, John Curtis - 102, Youngs Cove, Annapolis Co., died May 14, 1996, at home. Born at Youngs Cove, he was a son of the late William and Emily (Graham) Rafuse. He was a retired farmer and fisherman and also worked for a time as a carpenter. With the exception of two years, he was a lifelong resident of Youngs Cove. In 1993 he and the Youngs Cove community celebrated his 100th birthday. He was a member of Lake Brook Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are son, Donald, Bridgewater; daughters, Maxine (Mrs. Ronald Whynott), Paris, Ont.; Frances (Mrs. Fred Quigley), Saint John, N.B.; Margaret (Mrs. Wiert Buikema), Calgary, Alta.; 13 grandchildren; 35greatgrandchildren; 32great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Beatrice Sarty; daughter, Emma Robinson; two infant children; brothers, Chester, Harold, Reg, Aubrey, Victor, Joseph, Hilton; sisters, Adney, Nellie. Visitation 7-9 p.m. tonight in Robert L. Hall Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday in Lake Brook Baptist Church, Parkers Cove, Rev. Melvin Jones officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Parkers Cove. Family flowers only. Donations to Lake Brook Baptist Church or Annapolis County branch of VON.

VEINOT, Rex Pearl - 83, Simpsons Corner, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Friday, May 23, 2008, at home. Born in Simpsons Corner, he was a son of the late Clayton and Elvida (Woodworth) Veinot. Rex was a veteran of the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, New Germany. Rex served as a trustee for the Hillside Cemetery, Simpsons Corner. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his friend, Vella Ramey, Simpsons Corner; daughter, Jeannie, Ontario; sons, Michael Veinot, Bridgewater; Scott Veinot, Cookville; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Carey, Cora, Ola, Hope in infancy; brothers, Howard, Frank, Robert. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Public graveside service 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hillside Cemetery, Simpsons Corner, Rev. Anna Hoeg officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Hillside Cemetery Fund or charity of choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, New Germany.

DeMOND, George Rigby — 90, of Upper Cornwall, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Born in Upper Cornwall, he was the son of the late Guy (Genevieve) and stepson of the late Alice DeMond. He was a veteran of the Second World War, stationed in England. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Greta (Corkum), Upper Cornwall; daughters, Dianne(Carol) Oickle, Upper Cornwall; Jaunita (Clyde Seymour) Veinotte, Lower Cornwall; Anice (George Rhuland) DeMond, Blockhouse, and Genevieve(Frank) Eisnor, Maitland. Seven grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; seven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; half-brother, Roger DeMond; half-sister, Susie (Mario) Colicchis, Dartmouth. He was predeceased by sister, Mary Illingsworth; half-brothers, William, John, and Sydney. The body was donated to Dalhousie University, Medical Science at his request. Memorial services at a later date determined by Dalhousie University. Donations to charity of choice. Anyone wishing to express condolences may do so by mail, phone, or visitations.

JOUDREY, Charles Henry - 77, Cherryfield, Annapolis Co., died Wednesday, January 16, 2002, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co. Born in Cherryfield, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Valentine and Rosella (Acker) Joudrey. He worked with wood most of his life, either cutting, hauling or carpentry. He served in the Royal Canadian Army in Canada, during the Second World War. He was a dedicated member of the Springfield Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, the former Rhena Fancy, Cherryfield; daughters, Janice (Arthur Wilson), East Dalhousie; Carla (Dale DeMone), Cherryfield; Sandra (Cordell Durling), Simpson's Corner; sons, Richard (Cathy), New Canada; Francis (Laurel), New Germany; Terry (Darlene), Cherryfield; Alan (Anne), Pinehurst; foster sons, Randy, Ontario; Jason, British Columbia; grandchildren, Ryan, Denise, Melissa, Christopher, Stephen, Hannah, Krista, Mikayla, Kathryn, Jessica, Nicholas; several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by an infant granddaughter; sisters, Phyllis, Annie, Evelyn; several half-sisters and half-brothers. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. No visiting hours by request. A Memorial service will be held in Langille's Funeral Home, 2 p.m., Saturday, January 19, Rev. Brian Wheaton Officiating. The body has been cremated and the ashes will be cared for at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Springfield Fire Department, South Shore Regional Hospital, Springfield United Baptist Church, St. Cyprians Anglican Church, East Dalhousie, Baptist Church, East Dalhousie or any charity of choice. Flowers from the immediate family only.
