Robert Douglas Naugler, 72, passed away July 26, 2002 at the F.M. Hospital, Lunenburg. Born January 1, 1930 in Lower Northfield, he was the son of the late Oran and Lorena (Oickle) Naugler. He enjoyed driving trucks which he did for 51 years while employed with Rafuse & Eisenhauer, Bluenose Fruit, and Riverport Seafoods (F.P.I.). His love of music was evident in the years spent playing in his own band (The Homesteaders), providing sound for benefits and variety shows, and the many jams held at his home. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma (Taylor); sons Lawrence, Whynotts Settlement; Ted (Melanie), Lower Cornwall; David (Cindy), Stanburne; daughters Sandra (Melvin) Beck, Whynotts Settlement; Susan (John) Sabean, Midville Branch; step-daughter Rosalle (Luther) Tanner, North River; sisters Gladys (Bernie) MacDonald, Whynotts Settlement; Helen (Ronald) Haines, Prince George, B.C.; Linda (Keith) Eisner, Bridgewater; brothers Ronald (Lynn), Charles (Judy), all of Whynotts Settlement; grandchildren Crystal, Jamie, Lindsey and Shawn; great-granddaughter Allyssa; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Phelma (Lowe), daughter Sharon, son Robert Jr., sister Phillis, brother Glenwood, and grandson Dwayne Beck. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Sunny Side Cemetery, Whynotts Settlement. Floral tributes were given by family members. Memorial donations were made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lung Association, and other charities.
GIFFIN, Evangeline Winnifred - 87 of Victoria Vale, died Sunday in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Leason and Nettie (McNair) Baker. She was a member of the Victoria Vale Baptist Church, active in church life and church clerk-treasurer for over 30 years. She was a provincial life member of the United Baptist Womens Missionary Union and a life member of the Spa Springs Women's Institute. She is survived by her husband, Lester; one daughter, Audrey (Mrs. Cecil Bateman), Kingston; seven sons, Randolph, Saint John, N.B.; Wilfred, Halifax; John, Port George; Ronald, Kentville; Edwin, Shubenacadie; James, Amherst; Frederick, Liverpool; three sisters, Elma (Mrs. Stanley Plaistowe), Natick, Mass.; Viola (Mrs. Ken Rafuse), Victoria Vale; Edith (Mrs. Major Spencer), Middleton; one brother, Fred, Margaretsville; 29 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Hazel, four brothers, Wildred, Roy, Leslie, and Harold. The body is in the Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, visiting 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Victoria Vale Baptist Church, Rev. Roger Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Family flowers only. RAFUSE, Kenneth LeRoy - 92, Middleton, formerly of Victoria Vale, Annapolis Co., died peacefully on March 24, 1998, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Lawrencetown, he was the son of the late John M. and Ella M. (Clarke) Rafuse. He was a retired carpenter and a former employee of Bruce's Esso Service Station. He was an honorary deacon of the Victoria Vale United Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Perley Bent), Lawrencetown; Betty (Mrs. Charles Woodworth), Kentville; Donna (Mrs. William Underwood), Trout Lake; sisters, Mrs. Elsie Daniels, Crosskill Court, Bridgetown; Mrs. Jennie Beals, Lawrencetown; Mrs. Doris Tufts, Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Viola Baker; brothers, Everett, Fred, John, Harley and Harvey; sister Mary. Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. today in Warren T. MADER, Mildred Maxine "Mil" - 83, Chester, passed away peacefully March 16, 2005, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, with all of her children and grandchildren by her side. Born in Simpson's Corner, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late John and Samantha (Ernst) Lowe.
A graduate of Maritime Beauty Academy, Halifax, Mil operated her own hair salon from her family residence until 1960. She was an active and long-time member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church Chancel and Ladies Guild, Sunday school teacher and also a Brownie Leader for many years; life member of Chester Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary; life member of Royal Canadian Legion Butler Branch 44, Ladies Auxiliary, Chester. From October 1960 to October 2004, she acted as Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages for the area. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, reading and her favourite places were at home and cottage with her loving family around her.
Mildred is survived by her loving family, Dana (Sally) Chester; John (Sharon) Chester Grant; Christopher (Sharon), Chester Basin; daughters, Angela (Michael) Webber, Chester; and Tanya (Terry) Rafuse, Middle River; grandchildren, Carla and Vanessa and their mother Joan; Lisa, Matthew and Andrew, Lesek, Megan and Samantha; great-grandson Jesse; sister, Eileen Snyder, New Minas. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene; sisters, Linda, Ina, Goldie, Alvina and LaVerne; brothers, Elwin, Fred, Lawton, Murray, Glen, infant brother, Carmen, and grandson, Charlie in infancy.

KEDDY, Cecil David — 78, of Port Williams, Kings Co., passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, in Blomidon Court, Greenwich. Born in Forest Home, he was a son of the late Ambrose and Margaret (Arenburg) Keddy. A very skilled self-taught carpenter, he was a retired contractor, having built many homes in Kings County, service stations for Irving Oil, a fish plant in Newfoundland and the original buildings in Sherwood Forest Camp Ground, Coldbrook and the Kings County Municipal Airport, Waterville. He was involved in the construction of the Municipality of Kings Administrative Building, Kentville. He was Public Works Superintendant in Port Williams for over 30 years and also held the position of Harbour Master. Cecil had a very strong work ethic, was a people person, loved children and was extremely proud of his family. Always interested in oxen, he was a member of the Kings County Ox Pull Association and participated in many competitions throughout the province. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Marion Avery; daughters, Glenda (Eric) Clark and their daughter, Maggie, Port Williams; Gayle, Port Williams; son, Bev (fiancée, Patricia), Halifax; sisters, Hattie Spencer, Windsor; Rita Llewellyn, New Minas; Mary (Clifford) Pemberton, New Minas; Leona Feener, New Minas; Alice Urquhart, Ontario; brother, Frank (Thelma Gillis), Kentville; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Ernest Cecil Keddy; sisters, Frances, Violet and Margaret; brothers, Melbourne, Harry, James and Robert, and an infant brother, Oliver. Cremation has taken place. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a secretary for Cunrad Junior High School and later for a number of years with Parks Canada. Surviving are her husband, Wilfred D.; sons, Donald, Tantallon; Alan, Mount Uniacke; sister, Annie Lively, Enfield; five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Jean. LANGILLE, Selwyn Robert - Family and friends were saddened to learn of the passing, Monday, January 26, 2004, of Selwyn Robert Langille, 92, formerly of Blockhouse, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg, where he had resided for the past three and one-half years. Born in Maitland, September 6, 1911, he was a son of the late Demas and Eseline Langille and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member of St. James' Anglican Church, Mahone Bay where he had served on the Vestry and as a church warden. In earlier years he operated Selwyn R. Langille General Store, Blockhouse, for 35 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Edna (Spidell); daughters, Linda Langille, Bridgewater; Margot Lutes, Blockhouse, and her husband, Michael. He was predeceased by brothers, Harris and Maurice; sisters, Elsie (Moyle) Mader, Winnie (Arthur) Ernst, Ivy (Zenas) Nauss and Susie Langille. Visiting will be 7-9 p.m. this evening in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 29, in St. James' Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. She was a retired school teacher working mostly with the Chester school system. She was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Butler Branch 44; Chester Curling Club; St. Augustine's Church, Chester. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen (Mrs. David Lonergan), Berwick; five sons, Vernon, Enfield; David, Lower Sackville, Douglas, Toronto; Joseph, Campobello Isle, N.B.; Anthony, Chester; two sisters, Annie Lively, Enfield; Mary Cameron, Wellington Station; eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James D.
