HALLIDAY, J. Rodney - 62, Clarence, Annapolis Co., passed away November 5, 2006, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton, after a battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. Born in Hillsburn, he was a son of the late Moreland and Lydia Mae (Milbury) Halliday. Rodney was a fisherman for many years. He is survived by his wife, the former Carol Ann Binning; sons, Tony Scott, Clarence; Aaron, British Columbia; Adam, Greywood; daughter, Darlene (Dewayne) Halliday, Hillsburn; grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas, and Stephanie. He is also survived by a large family of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Cremation has taken place. No visiting by request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, with Rev. George Neily officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Family flowers only. VEINOTTE, Emerson Steven - 81, Factorydale, Kings County, died June 4, 1993, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Dalhousie, he was a son of the late Stephen and Jane (Joudrey) Veinotte. He was a self-employed farmer and woodsman. He worked for the Department of Highways and the Department of Lands and Forests, retiring in 1977. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by two sons, Vincent, Mississauga, Ont.; Naaman, Oakville, Ont.; four daughters, Pauline (Mrs. Russel Beals), Waterville; Hazel (Mrs. John Tupper), Scotts Bay; Joyce Tupper, Velma (Mrs. Wayne McKay), both of Aylesford; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former E. Irene Hiltz; four brothers, Sylvester, Noble, Ellery, Robert. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, where funeral will be 1:30 pm. Sunday, Rev. Eustace Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery. Family flowers only. Ella F. Acker
Funeral service was held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, on Tuesday morning, April 27 for Ella Florence, wife of the late Gilbert Acker, with Rev. Mark Winter officiating. Born in North River, November 2, 1897, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Jane (Acker) Daniels. She passed away on April 25 at her home in North River at the age of 84. Although in ill health her death came as a shock to her family and friends. She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter, Florence (Mrs. Alvin Robar) and a son Harold, both of North River; two brothers, Harold, Middleton and Aseph, Toronto; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a great, great, grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert, son Alvin, four sisters, Lizzie, Sadie, Lydia and Hattie, and two brothers, Archie and Edward.

Mrs. Elnora Elizabeth Acker, age 73, passed away on Monday morning, October 9, at her home in North River. Although in failing health for some time, her death came as a shock to her relatives and friends. Born at North River on May 12, 1899, she was the eldest daughter of the late Henry and Bessie Robar. She is survived by her husband Gordon, one daughter (Lela) Mrs. Stanley Robar; two sons, Aubrey, Bridgewater and Cyril, New Germany. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Two daughters, Audrey and Geneva predeceased her. Funeral service was held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, on Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Rolf Meindl officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery. The pall bearers were her four brothers, Leander, Rufus, Leon and Wilfred Robar, Ellis Robar and Pearlie Demone.

SLAUENWHITE, Joseph Harold - 88, Stanburne, Lunenburg Co., passed away at home, on Friday, November 26, 2004. Born on May 13, 1916, he was a son of the late Clarence and Cora (Veinot) Slauenwhite. Joe spent his life in Stanburne. He was born, baptized, and with his wife, Muriel, raised his own family and has now passed away on the family farm that he purchased from his father in 1946. During his working years, he was a self-employed carpenter and farmer and was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Surviving are his wife the former G. Muriel Lantz; sons, Phillip and Wayne, at home; Royce (Janet), New Germany; brothers, Pearlie (Ella), Burpee (Mae), all of Stanburne; grandchildren, Jeanine Chaisson, Ottawa; Jonathan Chaisson, Halifax; Joey Chaisson, Dartmouth; Alisha, Amanda, Anthony and Alex Slauenwhite, all of New Germany; sisters-in-law, Ruth Lohnes, Dartmouth; Grace Lantz, Liverpool; son-in-law, Edgar Chaisson, Margaree Forks; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Gloria Chaisson; sisters, Beatrice Taylor, Evelyn Slauenwhite; brothers-in-law, Richard Taylor, Bradford Lohnes, and Kenneth Lantz. Visitation for family and friends will be 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Family burial of ashes will follow in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to New Germany Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of choice.
MELANSON, Flora Luella — 83, Middleton, passed away January 7, 2011, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Nictaux South, she was the daughter of the late Gilford and Clara (Woodworth) Spurr. Flora loved to cross stitch, knit, crochet, doing crosswords and writing songs. Flora loved doing things with her family, children, grandchildren and even the neighbours’ children, building forts, coasting, skating and swimming. Flora is survived by sons, George 'Eddie', Whitby, Ont.; Allen (Kim), Lawrencetown; Donald (Theresa), Nictaux; daughters, Phyllis (Joe) Blancher, Ingersoll, Ont.; Sheila Williston, Beachville, Ont.; grandchildren, Melisa (Steve) Phillips, Julie (Shawn) North, Amber (John) Melanson, Joe (Carrie), James, Shaun, Vernon, Nick (Janet), Ron (Juanita); great-grandchildren, Brynn, Leah, Nicole, Kristen, Lauren, Avery, Maddison, Johnny, John and Greg. Besides her parents, Flora was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; son, Bernie. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. today, January 10 in Nictaux Cemetery with Rev. KEDDY, James Illsley MacKenzie "Jim" -82, Forest Home, Kings Co., passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008, at home. Born in North River, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Ambrose and Margaret (Arenburg) Keddy. He had been employed with Standard Paving Ltd. as a heavy equipment operator for 28 years. He also enjoyed farming. He was a dedicated father, a devoted grandfather and spent his life raising his own children, two of his grandsons and many foster children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and going for drives. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Amy Oakley; daughters, Joann (Oran) Starratt, Canard; Janice (Paul) Jollimore, New Minas; sons, Kirk (Glenda), Forest Home; Gary (Laura), Kentville; sisters, Hattie Spencer, Windsor; Rita Llewellyn, Mary (Clifford) Pemberton and Leona Feener, all of New Minas; Alice Urquhart, Toronto; brothers, Frank (Thelma), Kentville; Cecil (Marion), Port Williams; grandchildren, Kyle, Melissa, Jacob, Lacey Rose, Jasmine, Mikhail, Trevor, Melanie, Christopher, MacKenzie-Jo, Jessica, Brandie, Parker and Oakleigh; great-grandchildren, Jaida, Kylie, and Brandon; several nieces and nephews. LOHNES, Lincoln Eugene - It is with sadness that the family of Lincoln Lohnes announces his peaceful passing on December 24, 2007, in the Veteran's Unit, Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Lincoln was born in Upper Northfield on December 12, 1924, to the late Winslow and Nellie (Penney) Lohnes. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 62 years, Hope (Oickle); daughter, Cathy (Fred), Upper Northfield; granddaughter, Michelle (Chris), Berwick; grandson, Chris (Carrie), Illinois, and great-grandson, Braeden. He also leaves to mourn sisters, Helen Silver, Oakhill; Phyllis Joudrey, Hillside Pines, and Margery (Donald) Cook, Bridgewater; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was predeceased by brother, Owen, and infant sister, Marilyn. Lincoln joined the Canadian Army in November 1943 and served overseas with the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment. He was wounded during the course of his service, returning to Canada in April 1945 and discharged in July 1945. Lincoln was known to many as the co-owner and operator of Lohnes & Zwicker Massey Ferguson dealership on the South Shore. Lincoln was a life member of Branch 24 Legion, Bridgewater and held several posts including President and at the time of his death, Honorary President. An avid outdoorsman, Lincoln spent many hours fishing and hunting, enjoyed frequent visits to his camp in Pleasant River and was a life member of Mic Mac Rod & Gun Club, Wentzell Lake. After his retirement, Lincoln honed his curling and golfing skills, becoming an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed the company of fellow campers and bluegrassers during the many rallies he attended. Lincoln was a friend to many and will be missed by all. Visitation will be held in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, from 7-9 p.m. today with a public Legion Tribute at 7 p.m. A public graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Hillside Cemetery, Upper Northfield, Rev. VEINOTTE, Douglas Eric - 83, Oakland, passed away February 4, 2003, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. He was a son of Lee and Gretchen (Albrecht) Veinotte. Douglas enjoyed cottage living on Lake Mush-a-Mush. He was employed with Atlantic Bridge as a plumber/pipefitter. Douglas was a member of West Nova Scotia Regiment, serving during the Second World War in Italy and was a member of the West Nova Scotia Memory Club, Bridgewater. Douglas is survived by sons, Geoffrey and Gerald, both of Chester; sisters, Shirley Russell, Braintree, Mass.; Julia Wentzell, Upper Dyke; brothers, Vincent, Bridgewater; David, Lake Mush-a-Mush; grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Robert "Sonny". There will be no visitation by family request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday in Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay, Rev. Gordon Ernest Snyder
Gordon Ernest Snyder, 92, of Hebbville and Bridgewater, died Wednesday in Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Allison and Sarah (Aulenback) Snyder. For many years, he owned and operated Snyder's Grocery. He was a former treasurer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was an honourary Bridgewater Fire Department chief, a 50 year jewel member of Acacia Lodge 39, a member of IOOF Lodge, a former member of Bridgewater Curling Club and a charter member of Bridgewater Kiwanis Club. He is survived by a daughter, Millie (Mrs.Wes Trenholm), Kentville; a sister, Verna (Mrs. Harry Fulton), Hebbville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Blanche Arenburg; a son, Robert; five sisters, Jennie, Sadie, Lovie, Jewell, Dena; two brothers, Willis, one in infancy. The body is in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, visiting 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Born in New Ross, he was a son of the late Freeman and Ellen (Cleveland) Hiltz. He had been employed at Ross Farms, New Ross for several years. He is survived by his wife, the former S. Jane Bezanson; two daughters, Lydia (Mrs. John Macdonald), Halifax; Margaret (Mrs. Lindsay Gates), Timberlea, Halifax County; sister, Mrs. Hazel Bezanson, Dalhousie; brother, Vincent, Fraxville, Lunenburg County; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. FEINDEL, Donald St. Clair "Donnie" — 89, Bridgewater, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2009, in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where he had been residing. Born in Middleton, he was the son of the late Isaac and Florence (Trethewey) Feindel. He worked for many years as a machinist with Acadia Gas Engines and later as machine shop foreman with Atlantic Bridge. Family meant everything to Donnie and the best memory for all those who knew him would be his friendly smile. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Nellie Barry; daughter, Judy Tanner, Bridgewater; son, Bob (Bonnie), Cole Harbour; Gary (Wendy), Brooklyn, Queens Co.; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, Glen. A private graveside service will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating.
