Born at North River, she was a daughter of the late Edwin James and Anna Belle (Robar) Sarty. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She is survived by her companion, Maurice Robar; two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Wilfred Robar), North River; Vivian (Mrs. Robert Frank), Brickton, Annapolis County; halfsister, Alice Crouse, Cherryfield; two brothers, David, Paul, both of North River. She was predeceased by two sisters, Florence in infancy, Minnie; five half-sisters, Elsie, Gladys, Blanche, Lillian, Sadie; two half-brothers, Mark, Doran. VEINOTTE, R. Lester - 83, Blockhouse, died April 20, 2006, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. Born in West Northfield, he was a son of the late Albert and Juna (Wentzell) Veinotte. He retired in 1982 after working many years with Nova Scotia Power Corporation. He enjoyed traveling, square dancing and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Jean M. Aulenbach; sister, Frances Westhaver, Mahone Bay; brother, Franklyn Veinotte, Dayspring; nieces, Ann Eisnor and June Zwicker; nephews, David Ernst and Andrew Ernst. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Bernice; nephew, Freddie Westhaver. Wagner, Annie Mae - 89 years of New Germany, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, died Monday, 9 August 1999 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Born in New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Austin Harry Whynot and the late Laura Mae (Daniels) Whynot. She was a past member of the Anglican Ladies Guild and a member of St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church in New Germany. She is survived by her sister, Daisy Oickle, Yarmouth; brother, Kerry Whynot, New Germany; one niece; two nephews. McKEAN, Bruce Robert - Pinehurst, Lunenburg Co. It is with great sadness that we, the family of Bruce R. McKean, 85, of Pinehurst, announce his sudden passing on June 30, 2007. Born on May 28, 1922, in West Northfield, he was a son of the late Gertrude (Bruhm) and Ralph McKean, Pinehurst. He was a member and elder of New West Pine United Church, Pinehurst, and the last founding member of the Northfield & District Fire Department, past President of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association and past member of the Lunenburg Balsam Fir Co-op. He was a member of the Rosedale New Horizons Seniors Club, New Germany. He retired in 1985 from his trucking business and continued an active interest in Christmas trees until his passing. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Altena (Varner) McKean; daughter, Sandra (Edward) Walters, Wentzell Lake; son, Brian (Wendy) McKean, Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Karen Walters (Jimmy), Bridgewater, and Trevor (Rhonda) Walters, Upper Northfield; Kye Glenham, Lower Sackville, and four great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene McKean, Pinehurst; sisters, Irene Holdright, Bridgewater; Betty Spicer, Kingston, Ont., and Joanne Chiasson, Wentzell Lake; aunt, Nellie Veinot, New Germany, and special brother-in-law, Lloyd Varner, Sackville, N.B., as well as many nieces and nephews. Sadie Mildred Mossman, 84, died Monday, April 21, 1986, at home. Born in West Northfield, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lottie (Knox) Veinotte. She was a member of the Bridgewater United Church, a past member of Unit 6, Rebekah Lodge, and the Women's Institute. She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Mrs. W.A. Purcell), Orillia, Ontario; three sons, Hector, Bridgewater; Ronald, New Market, Ontario; Robert, Centre; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Maurice; two brothers, Herbert and Avery. The body rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home, where funeral service was Thursday, April 24, 1986, Rev. Alexander MacLean officiating. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.
JOUDREY, Charles Lindburg "Chummie" - 74, New Germany. It is with sad hearts that his children announce the passing of a very "special Dad", Charles Lindburg Joudrey "Chummie" on Saturday, April 15, 2006, in Queen's Manor, Liverpool, with his children by his side. Born August 19, 1931 in Stanley Section, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Robert and Annie Mae (Wilson) Joudrey. Chummie began work at the young age of 14 as a woodsman, later helping by being a cook at both Rossignol and Bowater Sawmills, Tantallon. In 1965, with the opening of Bowater Sawmill in Oakhill, he transferred, where he was night watchman until he retired in 1992. Chummie enjoyed bluegrass music, bingo, cooking, baking and spending time in his garden as well as playing practical jokes and spending time with his grandchildren. Chummie was a member of the St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Surviving are his daughter, Shelley (Jeff) Langille, Barss Corner; son, Avan (Lisa) Joudrey, New Germany; daughter, Mercedis (Paul) MacKinnon, Upper Branch. He was Grampie Joudrey to Rachel Langille (James Uhlman), Dartmouth; Jessica Langille, Barss Corner. GALE, John Charles - 76, 28 High St., North Sydney, died January 26, 1997, in Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Fricker) Gale. He was employed with Marine Atlantic, North Sydney, until his retirement. He served with Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 19. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church and the Men's Club. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, the C.B. radio and woodworking. Foster, David "Clyde" - 89, Crosskill Court, Bridgetown, formerly of Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2001, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Lawrencetown, he was a son of the late Frank and Margaret (MacLeod) Foster. He was a heavy equipment operator most of his working life and was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Lawrencetown. Nathan Haines
New Germany, May 9 - Nathan Haines, a life long resident of New Canada, died at his home there on Wednesday morning, May 7, 1941 following a long period of ill-health, which, however, confined him to his bed for one day only.Son of the late Edmund and Maria (Dorey) Haines, he was born in New Canada 63 years ago. He never married.
Surviving are brothers, Twining of Famington, Lunenburg County; and Allen of Moncton; and a sister, Laura, widow of Caleb Arenburg, Stanburne, who since the death of her husband a few years ago, has resided at the home of the late Nathan Haines. A nephew, Aubrey Crouse, also resided at the same home.
The funeral on Thursday afternoon was conducted by Lic. G.L. Gower, pastor of the United Baptist Church, New Canada.
SLAUENWHITE, Pearlie Cornelius - 88, Stanburne, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2006, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Stanburne, he was a son of the late Clarence and Cora (Veinotte) Slauenwhite. He was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Ella Louise Oickle; daughter, Beulah (Gilbert) Wagner, New Germany; son, Brian (Susan) Slauenwhite, West Northfield; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Evelyn Slauenwhite, Beatrice Taylor; brothers, Joseph and Burpee. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Born in Bridgewater, she was the eldest daughter of the late Clinton and Mavis (Corkum) Veinotte. LaVerne was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. She had a great love for gardening as well as frogs. She was an Avon representative for many years; she also enjoyed camping, attending social teas and Christian Women's Group. Surviving are daughters, Shelley (Jeff) Langille, Barss Corner; Mercedis (Paul) MacKinnon, Upper Branch; son, Avan (Lisa) Joudrey, New Germany; grandchildren, Rachel, Jessica, Michelle, Emma and Alex, and sister, Linda (Art) Brown, Robinsons Corner; a niece and two nephews.
