Winnie May Veinot
The death of Winnie May Veinot occurred at her home in Nineveh on February 11, 1973. She was 86 years old and in failing health for the past six months. Born in Hemford, she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Hirtle) Zinck.Her passing leaves to mourn, a husband, Henry; one daughter, (Joyce) Mrs. Bruce Wentzell, New Germany; two sons, Boyd, Bathurst, New Brunswick; and General, Albany, Annapolis County; also a foster son, Guilford Veinot at Nineveh. There are eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Evangelistic Assembly at Nineveh and will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. Mr. L.K. McIllwaine, Mr. John McCracken officiated at the funeral service held at Langille's Funeral Home, Barss Corner on Thursday at 2 in the afternoon. Hymns sung were "Jehovah Tsidkenu, " and "There is a Fountain Filled With Blood." The interment was at Nineveh Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce and George Barkhouse, Wayne MacKay, and Joseph Beck.
OLIVER, Harold Sidney - 69, Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, formerly of Parkers Cove, passed away April 13, 2007. Born October 14, 1937, in Parkers Cove, he was a son of the late Elwood Fletcher and Kathleen (Guest) Oliver. Harold scallop fished out of Digby during his younger years. He then worked for Standard Paving and following that, commenced working at CFB Cornwallis where he held positions as cleaner, laborer, storesman, and the last few years as firefighter. He worked at CFB Cornwallis for 25 years, retiring in 1993 when the base closed. He enjoyed collecting hockey cards, comic books and model cars and trucks until his sight became such that he could no longer pursue these hobbies. He spent considerable time with his dogs, Brandi, Koko and Kuddles. He is survived by his wife, the former Ina Marshall; daughters, Barbara Goreham and Krista, Bridgetown; son, Hal (Jane), Digby; grandchildren, Jesse, Tim, Shea, Brett, Samantha, Craig, Nickolas, and Lucas; brother, Floyd (Ruby); sisters, Ella (Scottie) McGilchrist, Viola (Glen) Potter, Maxine (Ronald) Hudson, Joan Corkum, Marie (Kenneth) Atwell, Lorraine (Clayton) Ells; sisters-in-law, Rae Oliver, Ardith Oliver, and Pauline Oliver; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Garnet, Elwood "Bud", Kenneth, and a brother in infancy. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in Parkers Cove United Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Kaizer officiating. Interment will be in Parkers Cove Cemetery. Family flowers only. A special thank you is extended to the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge for the wonderful care Harold received. Donations in memory may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to a charity of one's choice.
Darrell R. Veinot - Caledonia - Darrell R Veinot, 75, of Caledonia, died Monday at North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia. Born in Ninevah, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Manson and Melissa (Silver) Veinot. He retired in 1968 as an operator with the Nova Scotia Power Corporation after 26 years service. Surviving are two daughters, Althea (Mrs. Raymond Hanley), Mersey Point; Mrs. Brenda Lewis, Halifax; three sons, Richard, Caledonia; Vernon and Fred, both of Ottawa; 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Lulu D Veinot; a son Harold; and two brothers, Grafton and Harold. The body is at Chandler's Funeral home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be today at 2 pm in Caledonia United Church, Boyce Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Harmony cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Queens Nursing Home or Caledonia United Church.

SABEAN, Irene Louise - 57, Mount Rose, died October 1, 2005, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of William and Janetta (Hawkesworth) Dexter. She loved reading, family, very close friends, annual trips with her best friends and Wednesday night cribbage parties. Irene was active in the community, and a member of the Port Lorne Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was always willing to help someone or to lend a hand. She was a devoted wife, mother and an especially loving grandmother to her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Ernest; daughter, Janice (Irving) Wade, Mount Rose; sons, Shawn, Mount Rose; Tony (Jennifer), Middleton; brothers, Boyd Dexter, Hampton; Cecil (Carol) Dexter, Great Village, Colchester Co.; grandchildren, Andrew, Megan, and Tyler. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today in Middleton Funeral Home, Middleton (902) 825-3448, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, Pastor Bill Patterson officiating. Interment in Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne. Reception to follow in Port Lorne Fire Hall. CHESLEY, Merna Lillian - 82, New Germany, died January 25, 1994, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. Born in New Germany, she was a daughter of the late Raswell and Sadie (Conrad) Feindel. After graduating from Normal College, Truro, she taught in various schools in the New Germany area until her marriage, when she and her husband operated a meat store and cement business in New Germany. After her husband's death she again taught in New Germany for a few years. After her second marriage, they resided in Clark's Harbour and Bear River until their retirement, returning to New Germany. She was a member of Epworth United Church; the UCW and Barss Corner Women's Institute. She is survived by a brother, Ronald, New Germany; three nieces and a nephew; two stepdaughters, Pamela Coleman, Clarence; Margaret Langley, Toronto. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arol Freeman; second husband, Seldon Chesley; half-sister, Mabel Powers. The body has been donated to Dalhousie Medical School.
KEDDY, Frances Rebecca - 83, formerly of New Minas, passed away Friday, February 17, 2006 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Forest Home, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Ambrose and Margaret (Arenburg) Keddy. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant, retiring from the Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital, Wolfville, after 27 years. She is survived by sisters, Hattie Spencer, Windsor; Rita (Melbourne) Llewellyn, Mary (Clifford) Pemberton, Leona Feener, all of New Minas; Alice Urquhart, Ontario; brothers, Frank (Thelma), Aldershot; James (Amy), Forest Home; Cecil (Marion), Port Williams; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Rose Bezanson and Violet Silver; brothers, Melbourne, Robert, Harry and George (in infancy). There will be no visitation by family request. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings Co., Rev. Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. DeMONE, Elva Jean - 76, New Germany, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in North River, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Winnifred (Daniels) Robar. In her younger years, she worked for Graves in Bridgetown. She then settled into married life in Cherryfield and raised seven children. She enjoyed card games and visits from family and friends and taking part in a variety of life's activities. She spent her last year in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany where she received the care and attention of the staff, whom she was so fond. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River. Surviving are her children, Theresa Simms, Cherryfield; Marsha DeMone, Barry DeMone, Ginny (Bruce) Penney, all of New Germany; Janis (Maurice) Hétu, Barrie, Ont; Glenn (Joanne) DeMone, Scarsdale; Joel (Debbie) DeMone, Crousetown; "adopted daughter", Coline MacDonald, New Germany; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Violet Veinot, Kingston; Ruby Eisnor, North River. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurie; sisters, Phyllis MacDonald, Gloria Crossland. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday in New Germany Funeral Home, 4895 Route 10, New Germany. Mrs. Merna Caroline Hirtle, 45, wife of Lester A Hirtle, Wyleville, died Sunday at Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Waterloo, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Gladys (Zwicker) Wile. She is survived by her husband; four sons, David, Patrick, Brian, at home, Elijah, California; two daughters, Martha and Brenda at home; three sisters, Pauline (Mrs. Basil Veinotte), Newburne, Kathleen (Mrs. Eldridge Milbury), Newburne, Muriel (Mrs. Laurie MacKay), Stanley Section; one brother Lyman, Waterloo. The body is at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral will be tomorrow at 2 pm at the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, conducted by District President Aubrey A Fielden. Interment will be in the family plot, Lapland.

CROUSE, Doran Llewellyn - 97, Cherryfield, Annapolis County, died October 15, 2000, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, Annapolis County. Born in Cherryfield, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Dean and Sarah (Zwicker) Crouse. He worked in the woods and as a mason, farmer, carpenter, butcher and blacksmith. He invented a number of items to assist him in his work. He had a wonderful sense of humor and showed it when he acted as a performer on many occasions for variety shows and functions for his community and charities alike. He sang and played accordion and mouth organ. He was also a hunter and fisherman and often acted as a guide. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River, a past member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a past member of New Horizons Seniors Club, New Germany. Surviving are his son, Carrol, Cherryfield; daughter, Julia Wright, Coldbrook, Kins Co.; three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Sadie Agnes Sarty; sisters, Edna, Lois, Sadie; twin sister, Dorothy Crouse; brother, Ernest; half-brothers, Twining and Audrey Crouse. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, funeral 10:30 a.m. Thursday, both in Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., Rev. Don McFadden LT officiating, assisted by Rev. Wayne Mitten. Alfred B. Eldridge, 81, Scarsdale, formerly of Nineveh, Lunenburg County, died February 12, 1995, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Hemford, Lunenburg County, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by a brother, Nelson; sister, Grace. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A graveside service will be at a later date in Hemford Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations to Lohnes Rest Home or Barss Corner Baptist Church.
Clarence (Ted) Lawrence Veinot passed away December 26, 1993, at York County Hospital, Newmarket, Ontario, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Hemford, Lunenburg County, 74 years ago, he was the son of the late James and Agnes (Silver) Veinot.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Chester and Charlie.
Left to mourn his loss are two sisters, Marguerite Boon, Newmarket, Ontario; Arlene Daudlin, Riverview, New Brunswick; and brother, Roger, Lindsay, Ontario; nieces, Carolyn Morrill and Soni-Ann Daudlin; nephews, Allen Boon, and Jaymie, Tracy, and Shelby Daudlin.
Interment was at Briar Hill Veterans Cemetery, Sutton, Ontario.
CROUSE, Alice Marjorie - 93, Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, formerly of Cherryfield, Annapolis Co., died September 2, 1996, in the home. Born in North River, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late James E. and Sarah (McGrath) Sarty. She was a member of Seventh day Adventist Church, Bridgewater. She was a school teacher for a year in North River. Surviving are daughters, Elsie Conrad, Voglers Cove; Helen Crouse, Beulah (Mrs. Robert Hendrick), Cedar Lake, Mich.; Florence Crouse, Cherryfield; five grandsons; two great-grandchildren; half-sisters, Mary Robar, North River; Vivian (Mrs. Robert Frank), Brickton, Annapolis Co.; half-brothers, David and Paul Sarty, North River. She was predeceased by her husband, Twining; sisters, Elsie, Gladys, Blanche, Lillian, Sadie; brothers, Mark, Doran; half-sisters, Elva, Minnie, infants, Florence, Meda; half-brother, Fred.
