Jean Delores MacNeil

Mrs. Jean Delores MacNeil, 78, Sydney, N.S., died peacefully at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Nov. 28, 2012. Daughter of Hughie R. and Christina MacDonald, wife of the late James MacNeil (Jim Angus). Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother (Nanny) and friend to so many. She was a pillar of strength, kindness and selfless love. A force of unity and a master link that kept many distant friends and relatives connected. She valued and fostered personal human connections. To know her was to love her. She will be dearly missed by sons, Colin (Diana), Owen Sound, and Mark (Laurie), Sault St. Marie; grandchildren, Alexander, Mae, Alicia and Ryan James; brothers, Danny and Jack and sister, Sr. Peggy. She was predeceased by brothers, Rannie, Charlie, Hughie and sisters, Sr.Marie, Norma and Beverly. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m, and again Sunday, Dec. 2 from 6-9 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, St. Margaret’s Village. Funeral mass to take place Monday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church with Fr. Ajit officiating. Interment to follow in parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Virginia Jane (Doucette) Bernard

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden death of Virginia Jane ‘Jenny’ (Doucette) Bernard. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Georgina (Denny) Doucette and the late Noel Doucette. She was a member of the Holy Family parish, Eskasoni, and she was was presently a student at TEC pursuing her grade 12. Jenny was also known as a dancer and a poet of the family. Jenny lived for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John Joseph Bernard; her children, Theresa (David), Caroline (Lowell), Jenny Rose (Vincent), Allister (Delena), and stepdaughter, Olivia Julian; grandchildren, John David, Jorja Rayne, Christopher, Wyatt, Kaylynn, Marshall Jr., John Andrew, Precious and Richard. She is also survived by her siblings, Vaughen (Shirley), Mike (Karen), Noel Jr., Daniel, Donald, Bernice, Ruby and John. Visitation will take place at her home Saturday, Dec. 1 at 88 Anslum Rd., Eskasoni, after 5 p.m. and continue Sunday, Dec 2. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 3 at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni, with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment to follow in church cemetery.

Terry MacAskill

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry MacAskill on November 22, 2012 after a long courageous battle, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Terry was a hard working man who was the owner/operator of A R Affordable Roofing for 10 years up until his illness took him out of the work force. Terry was very well respected by those who worked for him and with him. Terry is survived by his loving and devoted wife Heather (Compton); daughter Jennifer MacAskill; mother Rachel; and sister Darlene Burbine. He is also survived by his cousin Richie, who was like a brother to Terry, grandchildren Jaden and Gabriella. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law Marie Compton; sister-in-law Sharon Chamberlain (Ottawa) and his special dog Winnie. He was predeceased by his father Ralph Burbine; and his son, Cory. As per Terry’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and by request there will be no visitation, a private family service will take place at a later date Donations in Terry’s memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, or to a charity of ones choice. Special thanks to Dr. John Ritter, and to the nursing staff of 4B for their wonderful care.

Malcolm Norman Noseworthy

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Malcolm Noseworthy on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Chester and Kay (Morrison) Noseworthy. He was a wonderful person, who cared for everyone around him. He had a great sense of humour, he touched all who knew him. He was an avid dart player. He enjoyed cooking and baking. Malcolm is survived by his children, Kenneth (Annemarie), Karen Renee (Mark), Crystal (Jason) and Christopher; 11 grandchildren with special mention from poppy to Austin Raine and Amber Dawn. He is also survived by his brother, George (Nickie); aunt, Jessie Fraser; best friend, Valerie, sisters-in-law, Carol, Gail, Darlene and Karen; brother-in-law, Brian and their families; father-in-law and best friend, John A. MacNeil; good friends, Paula and Stevie O’Leary, Margie Sullivan and Brenda Curry; daughter-in-law, Melissa (Steven); as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Jim, Donald, Ricky, Kenny, one sister in infancy. Visitation will be held today (Thursday, Nov. 22) at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow.

Lovett Edwin Everett

It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lovett Edwin Everett, 82, of Sydney. Lovett lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was born to the late Horace and Gladys Everett on Aug. 6, 1930, in Bridgetown, N.S. Lovett made his living as a painter, crack filler and vinyl hanger. His work is prominent in many establishments throughout Sydney. He was a great lover of the written word and could always be found sitting, reading a book chosen from his private home library. Other than books, his favourite pastime was stamp collecting which gave him many hours of enjoyment over the years. He loved to play tarabish, cribbage and various other parlor games. On cold winter nights during a power failure he often played Battleship with his children by oil lamp. Lovett is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth (Betty); his six children, Lynn (Richard) McNamara, Riverview, N.B., Debby Everett, Sydney, Kevin (Anne) Everett, Sydney River, Jill (Bill) Hickey, East Bay, Dale Everett, Sydney, and Robin (Kathie) Everett, Edmonton, Alta. He is also survived by his older sister, Viola Stevens who resides at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney River. He was predeceased by his brother, Deblois, Bridgetown, N.S. Papa, will be dearly missed by his 13 grandchildren, Logann, Liam, Kaleen, Adam, Melissa, Lori, Kimberly, Zachary, Justine, Brayden, Drake, Keegan and Jadyn. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and special friends, Frank and Laurel Buckingham and Dannie Hanson. His family would like to thank Dr. Estelle Cameron, Dr. Susan Rawal and the staff and doctors of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Palliative Care. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow. Interment to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Unit. “You may be gone But your memories live on We love and miss you. Rest in Peace.”

Pauline Diane (Campbell) Denis

Pauline was called home on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at the age of 63 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Main-a-Dieu, she was the daughter of the late Colin and Isabel (Locke) Campbell. Besides her husband, Armand, she is survived by her two sons, Robert (Sylvie), Ottawa, James (Caroline), Montreal; daughter, Isabelle (Sandy) Spencer, Dartmouth; grandchildren, who were her pride and joy of her life, Neala, Zachery, Jordan, Hailey, Jaime Hope and Colin. Pauline is survived by her 12 brothers, Joey (Yvonne), Robert (Loretta), Peter (Anita), Andrew (Anna Mae), Victor (Donna), Tommy (Gwen), Frank (Peggy), Selby (Melba), Raymond (Joanne), John Hugh (Colleen), Keith (Roseanne), Garfield (Tammy); one sister, Alice, Lloydminister, three stepsisters, Theresa Spencer, Margaret Campbell, Georgine MacNamara; stepbrother, Jim as well as Armand's immediate family. Pauline was predeceased by brother, Stephen Campbell, sister, Ada Bussey, stepbrother, Gregory Campbell. Pauline's greatest achievement was her role as a mother and wife. She shared with her husband the love of God which seen her through the most difficult time in her life. Pauline will always be remembered for her commitment to her family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at the S.W.Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow. Donations may be sent to the Cape Breton Cancer Society.

Lucretia 'Teresa' Damude

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Teresa Damude, 87, on Nov. 16, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Belleoram, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Gertude (Munden) Cluett. After the tragic SS Caribou sinking in 1942, which took the lives of her mother and two youngest sisters, Abigail and Vera, she lived in North Sydney and Glace Bay, then moved to St. Catharines, Ont., where she raised her family and worked as a nurse’s aide for many years until her retirement. Teresa and her husband Gordon retired in Boisdale. She enjoyed doing fancywork, collecting antiques and visiting historic sites and museums during family outings. She was a great cook and baker, and loved family and friends coming to visit. Teresa is survived by her daughter, Mary (Dave) Mackie; son, Robert, Ontario; her devoted son and caregiver, Tim, Boisdale; three grandsons, Ben, Chris and James; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Catherine ‘Beanie’ Burt, Glace Bay, and Hattie Francis, Halifax; along with several nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held today (Monday, Nov. 19) at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Donations may be sent to a charity of choice.

Marilyn Anne (Richardson) Fuller

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Marilyn Fuller at the An Cala Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Nov. 13, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of, Mrs. Elizabeth (Colborne) Richardson, Sydney, and the late Calvin Richardson. She graduated from Mount St. Vincent in 1973 with her BSc. in nutrition. Marilyn was employed as a dietitian for the Cape Breton Health Authority until her retirement. She was a member of the United Baptist Church, the Breton Song Birds, the Ella Reeves Memorial Handbell Choir for 25 years, and the church choir. She was a board member of the Loaves and Fishes, and volunteered delivering for Meals and Wheels. She was leader for CGIT, Brownies and Girl Guides. Marilyn is survived by her beloved children, Stephen (Tanya), Shannon and Shelley all of Sydney. She shared a special bond with her grandchildren, Alicia, Logan, Nathaniel and Rebecca. She is also survived by her siblings, Brian (Anne Marie) Richardson, New Waterford, Jean Borden, South Bar, Joyce Richardson, Sydney, Alan (Denise) Richardson, Bangor. She is survived by nieces, nephews and many cousins including Carol Richardson who Marilyn thought of as her sister as well as many close friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the Baptist United Church, the corner of Townsend and Charlotte streets, with Rev. Bob Hussey officiating. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breastoners Dragon Boat Team.

Allan Martin Lemoine

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Cape St. George, Newfoundland he was the son of the late Joseph and Philemina (Madore) Lemoine. As a young boy, he directed planes in Newfoundland, he moved to Cape Breton in 1984. He was a pulp cutter by trade and worked with many companies, Harry Huntington, Kenneth Phillips and his sons, Donnie MacLeod and Gordon MacVicar. He was a quiet man and enjoyed the outdoors, ice fishing, hunting and checking his snares. Allan is survived by his loving daughter, Cathy Briand (Lorne Bonnar); his precious granddaughters, Alyssa, Jenna and Chloe, Lorne’s daughters, Hailey and Samantha Bonnar. He is also survived by his companion, Elaine Clyke; sister, Muriel Chaisson, Mainland, Newfoundland; his good friends, Ray, Curtis and Danny Barter and Ann Lamson. Allan will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, especially niece, Joni Lamson. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by several siblings, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with reception to follow. Interment will be held Monday, Nov.12, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Bernard 'Kerry' Barrie

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bernard Kerry Barrie, 71, at the AnCala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Nov. 5, 2012, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Kerry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Phyllis (MacRae); sons, Bernard, Michael (Liana); daughter, Tanya (Karl) and eight grandchildren, Karalyn, Cheryl, Ryan, Lauren, Bradley, Kyle, Brianna and Sean, all of whom were the lights of his life. Kerry was a devoted family man who enjoyed taking nature walks with his grandchildren, teaching them how to fish, and he loved spending quality time with them. He was known to be a loyal friend to one and all and spent a lifetime giving to more than just his family and friends. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces for 22 years and served overseas in Germany and Cyprus. Kerry was very involved in his community and devoted thirty five years of his life with the Coxheath Volunteer Fire Department, retiring with the rank of Captain. Kerry enjoyed many amazing friendships with his fire department family and was especially close to Laurie, Curley, Henry, Rannie, Tommy, Bob and Brian. Kerry also enjoyed a large circle of friends in Ben Eoin Beach and loved spending time with the ‘fireflies’ around the campfire. Kerry was a kind and devoted friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand or a tool whenever needed. He also shared a special bond with Riley, Ashley, AJ and Shaun. Kerry was known to have a very quick wit and maintained his sense of humour, even throughout his illness. Kerry will be deeply missed by his sisters, Karen (Bill), Arlene (Kenny), Bernice (Jack) and a brother, David. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he adored. He especially enjoyed his visits with his nephew Steven, who often caught fresh fish for Kerry to enjoy. Kerry loved all of his extended family and will be profoundly missed by Greg, Donna, Wanda, Shirley, Lloyd, Joanie, Colleen, Dave and Mae, and he shared a beautiful bond with his mother-in-law Winnifred MacRae. Kerry was affectionately known to some as ‘Duck’ and will be deeply missed by his lifelong friends, George, Duke and Heckie. Kerry was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Bernetta Barrie, a sister, Helen (in infancy), his beloved daughter-in-law, Donna, his father-in-law, Harry MacRae Senior, brother-in-law, Harry MacRae Junior, brother-in-law, Sonny Ingraham, brother-in-law, Buddy Andrea, and his grandmother, affectionately known as Mossy. Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, from 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will be held at Chants Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. A reception celebrating Kerry’s life will be held at the Coxheath Volunteer Fire Department immediately following the funeral service. Special thanks to Jackie, Palliative Care Coordinator; the staff of the Victorian Order of Nurses; Continuing Care Services; Linda palliative care RN, and Dr. Cheryl Tobin for their amazing care and compassion for Kerry and his family. Memorial donations in Kerry’s memory may be made to the Coxheath Volunteer Fire Departments Truck Fund, the IWK Children’s Hospital, or a charity of one’s choice.
