Janet Pitcher
(November 29, 1921 - November 5, 2012)

Janet Pitcher 90, Louisbourg

It was with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of my loving wife of 65 years, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister on Monday, Nov., 5,2012.

Born in Grand Le Pierre, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Cecelia (Miles) and James Bolt and was raised by her aunt, the late Polly Clark.

Her greatest joy in life was her love of family, her home and her beautiful gardens. She is survived by her husband, Joseph, four sons, Harry (Donna), Halifax, Wayne (Nora), Louisbourg, Joe (Ann), Bateston, Calvin (Caroline), Louisbourg, three daughters, Yvonne, Sydney, Bonnie (Stewart Whynott), Peggy (Bernard Mahon), both of Louisbourg, grandchildren, Trevor, Matthew, Jody, Michelle, Melanie, Amy, Daniel, Adam, David, Justin, Kevin, Jennifer and Joseph; great grandchildren, Hillary, Chloe, Stephen, Aiden, Nora, Liam, Kinnon, Owen, Ben, Chace, Tanner, Jack, Jaxon, as well as her sister, Ellen Scott.

Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by a son in infancy, brothers, Mark and Charles, Bolt and sister Carrie Manning.

Visitation for the late Janet Pitcher will be held at the First United Church, Louisbourg on Thursday November 9,2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will take place Friday November 9,012 at 2:00 pm at First United Church with Nancy Whitney Latham DLM officiating.

Donations in Janets’s memory may be made to Palliative Care, CBRH or a charity of one’s choice.

Delano Peach

It is with heavy hearts the we announce the passing of Delano Peach at the Glace Bay Hospital on Nov. 2, 2012. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Martell) Peach. Delano is survived by his wife, Florence (Corbett) and her son, Jason Corbett; sister, Elizabeth (Henry) MacDonald; brother, Gerald (May) Peach. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. In keeping with Delano’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at 11 a.m.

Catherine Ley

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Catherine Ley at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Catherine was the daughter of the late Micheal W. and Jane (Burke) Kennedy. Born in Glace Bay, she lived most of her life in Little Lorraine. Catherine’s mother passed away when she was 14, leaving her to raise her siblings while her father fished. She also worked various jobs: the Main-a-Dieu Lobster Canning Plant, The Maple Leaf Restaurant and did housekeeping in various homes in Louisbourg and Glace Bay, which she often spoke of fondly. Catherine was a member of the Catholic Womens League, Club 55 of Sydney, and the Louisbourg Senior’s Club. She is survived by children, Jane (Ashley) MacLeod, Port Hastings, Susan (Grant) MacDonald, Sydney Forks, Mary MacEachern, Kay Cuddihy, Sydney, Michael (Ann), Louisbourg, James (Donna) Port Hardy, B.C., Sandy, Joey, Little Lorraine, Vincent (Kathleen), Howie Center, Gloria (Sandy) Spencer, Main-a-Dieu; and “adopted” children, Lillian (Hawco) Corbett and Johnny MacDonald; brother, Joseph (Mary), Tower Road; sisters, Susan (Sylvester) Burke, Catalone, and Vera MacIsaac, Ontario; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Bryden, brothers, Vincent, Fraser, Jim and Charlie, sisters, Cleo, Bridget, Helen and Mary. Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Main-a-Dieu, on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, with Fr. Raj. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Vera Florence Bonnell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Vera Bonnell on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Port Lorne, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Earl and Theresa (Lewis) Sabean. She enjoyed walking, and spending time with her family and collecting jewelry. She would spend hours watching the shopping network and collecting clocks. Vera is survived by her children, Linda (Brian) Sabean,Port Lorne, Dennis Bonnell (Darlene Letournal), Michael Bonnell (Diane Bradbury), both of Sydney; her wonderful grandchildren, Christine (Michel), Shaun (Nadine), Justin, Virjillia (T.J.), Devin and Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Alexis; brother, Watson Sabean (Doreen), Calgary; as well as her cat, Snuggle. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Dennis Shawn Bonnell and brother, Earl Dennis Sabean. Cremation has taken place. There is no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the Westmount United Church, Westmount, with Rev. Bob Biggar officiating. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at the CBRH and to the VON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Unit.

Joseph E. Lovett

Our father’s favourite saying, “Time waits for no one”. With great sadness our father’s time with us has ended. He left peacefully on Oct. 8, 2012, with great courage and dignity as he lived his life. It comforts us to know that he is now re-united with his loving wife of 62 years Maude who predeceased him in 2003. Dad was born in Dartmouth in 1918, and was the last surviving member of his family. He lived the majority of his life in Louisbourg where he made his home and raised his family. Joe was a veteran of the Second World War and a proud member of the Merchant Marines. He was a past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62, Louisbourg. He worked many years for Devco and also enjoyed many years of retirement. He is survived by his three daughters, and two sons, Betty, at home, Joe (Theresa) Texas, Anne (John) Alberta, David (Caroline) Mira, Marie (Jeff) Saskatchewan. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren, J.D., Josey, Jacalynn (Jim) and Chris (Candice) and great-grandchildren, Chole and Carter, Alberta, and Kayla and Kelsey, Louisbourg. Dad will also be missed by many nieces and nephews in Dartmouth and New York. Visitation will be held at Stella Maris Church, Main Street, Louisbourg, on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday Oct. 11, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Stella Maris Church with Fr. Raj Officiating, and participation from the members of the Royal Canadian Branch 62, Louisbourg. Interment to follow in parish cemetery. Donations to the building fund, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62, Louisbourg, or a charity of ones choice would be greatly appreciated.

Gerald 'Gerry' Kevin Voutier

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family have to announce the death of Gerald ‘Gerry’ Kevin Voutier, 48, of North Sydney, after a hard fought bout with cancer. Gerald was a loving father and an all around good guy. Gerald loved playing and watching sports, cards, the guitar, fishing, pool, darts, drawing and cooking. Gerald was a graduate of Memorial High School, as well as a graduate from Patrick’s Beauty College. During his younger years he was a carnival worker, cashier, a construction worker, as well as a cook. Gerald was a strong and hard-working man and instilled that a long to his children who he loved dearly. Gerald took his passion for cooking and turned it into a career working at a few restaurants in Sydney where he lived with his son, Kevin. In the winter he loved snow shovelling and going for coffee. Gerald spent much of his time doing the things he loved to do which included working. He was employed at Fuzzy’s Fries for the last seven years and he loved every day he worked and the employees he served. Gerald was surrounded by his family and friends when he passed and he did not suffer. Gerald is survived by his sons, Kevin MacPherson and Gerald MacPherson, both of Sydney; cousins, Ken Steele (Janet), Jan Voutier (Sharon); nieces and nephews; and predeceased by his parents, Gerald Maxwell Voutier, Sarah Theresa Voutier and aunt Irene Steele. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

Shawn Joseph MacLeod

We, the saddened family of Shawn MacLeod, regret to announce the untimely yet peaceful passing of our youngest family member Shawn. Born in 1951 to Mary Theresa (Martell) and the late Duncan MacLeod. Shawn lived most of his life in Toronto where he worked for many years with North York School Board. During the past years Shawn lived fully and happily playing his drums and loving his family. We will always remember his ever present smile and his unconditional love. Surviving Shawn is Stacy Turrittin and her son Quincey. Besides his adoring mother left to mourn are Brian (Judi), Susan (Roger), Duncan (Michelle) Linda, Mary Theresa (Martin) Ross, (Anna), Barbara (Allan) MacPherson,Hugh (Heather); and many nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Duncan he was predeceased by his brother, Hughie Victor. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Henry William 'Harry' Woodcock

It is with broken hearts and great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Harry on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by family. Born in Stanley, N.B., he was the son of the late Bruce and Mabelle (Rodgers) Woodcock. Harry was a kind and caring person who was always there. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and a great friend to all. He enjoyed golfing, walking, basketball, kayaking, hockey, travelling, camping and music, especially the guitar. Harry is survived by loving wife, Wanda (McComb); two daughters, Sarah and Emily (Bernard), at home. He is also survived by brother, Brent (Brenda) and their son Chris; and sister, Heather (Russell) Randall and their daughters, Jessica (Justin and girls Alyssa and Keirsten) and Kara (Colby). Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 26 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Sydney, from 4-7 p.m. We would like to thank Drs. P. Murphy and D. White Halifax), J. Ritter and C. Tobin and Laurie Mortimer, Claudette Taylor and the wonderful nurses of 4B and An Cala Palliative Care who gave comfort and care to Harry and his family. We would also like to thank our wonderful extended family and friends who are alongside us during this journey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the An Cala Palative Care Unit, Patient Care Fund and The Lodge That Gives, 5826 South St., Halifax.
