Donald Michael 'Donnie' Campbell

Donald Michael ‘Donnie’ Campbell passed away on June 15, 2012, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Donnie, born in Sydney and a member of Sacred Heart parish, was a son of the late Archie and Violet (Burns) Campbell. Donnie began working at a very young age and in later years, became a well-known car salesman in Sydney until an accident resulted in early retirement. Donnie thoroughly enjoyed visits from his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish the memory of their ‘Poppy.’ He was a true sports fan and also kept up a lively interest in politics during his retirement years. Donnie is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Blanch (MacDonald); his five sons, Michael, (Rosemarie), Leo (Darlene), Jimmy (Michelle), Blain (Laura) and Karl (Tanya); 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Barry, Alert Bay, B.C.; sisters, Cathy (Roman) Fedurko, Toronto, and Dolores (John) Campbell, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Beryl Burke and Jessie MacDougall, Sydney; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances. Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by brothers, Jimmie and Pat. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Donald Louis Antonello

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our father Donald Louis Antonello at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Friday, June 22, 2012. Born 1928 in Sydney, Donald was the son of the late Louis Antonello and Mary (Rose) Antonello. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Peggy (MacDougall), daughter, Donna (Savoy), son-in-law, (Steve Benoit), sister, Lois Marinelli. Donnie is survived by his daughters, Dana (Jeff Pawluck), Windsor, Ont., and Peggy (Joe MacDougall), Cole Harbour, and son-in-law, Charles Savoy; grandfather to Taylor, Mitchell and Emily Benoit and Charley Savoy. Brothers, Maurice (Snookes), Alden (Lillian), Pius (Flo), all of Sydney; sisters, Doris (Bob), Ontario, and good friend, Glenda Gregory of Sydney. He was a member of Holy Redeemer parish. Donald was employed for 42 years at the Sydney Steel Plant employed as a millwright. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, skating, wine making and loved playing cards with his brothers and many friends. Visitation will be held, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. under the direction of S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St. Sydney. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. There will be a reception to follow after the service. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ALS Society, or a charity of one’s choice.

Mary Christine Beaver

It is with broken hearts and great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Christine Beaver on Sunday, June 17, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family. Born in Louisbourg, Feb. 12,1947, she was the daughter of the late James and Katie (MacIntyre) Hiltz. Mary was a kind and caring person who was always there in a time of need. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a great friend to all. Mary is survived by her husband, Hughie Beaver; son, Jamie (Tammy), Oromocto, N.B.; daughter, Kathy Lynn (Roddie) Wall, Louisbourg; and brother, Jimmy (Theresa) Hiltz, Bateston. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Jarett and Susie. Besides with her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Cathy Rudderham. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Mary will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 21 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Louisbourg. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22 at St. Bartholomew’s with Rev. Laura McCue officiating. There will be a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a charity of your choice.

Roderick Schaller

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Roderick P Schaller on June 22, 2012 at the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Roddie was born in Sydney Forks in 1940, to late Katherine (Hunter) and John Basil Schaller. He joined the army at 17 and served in the engineers as a sapper for three years. He returned to the Sydney and worked for several years here before going to work in Halifax. In 1974, Roddie returned to Sydney area to do drywall installing and finishing and he took great pride in doing this work for more than 30 years. Roddie was a great family man, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours. He served as a Beaver and Cub leader and was Commodore and Property Chairman of the Mira Boat Club for a number of years. Roddie is survived by his wife and best friend, Sharon (Wolfe); son, Steven and his wife Alissa (Pearo); his beloved granddaughter, Olivia of Sydney Forks; and his daughter, Kathleen of Sydney. He is also survived by his sister, Olga (Syd) Morrell of Sydney Forks as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and good friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Paul, George and John Louis (in infancy) of Sydney Forks, and John Basil of Bellville Ont; sisters Marie Pittard of Toronto, and Polly Graham of Edmonton. Roddie and his family lived in Sydney Forks for 29 years, and he moved to the “bungalow” on the Mira in 2005 when Sharon retired. Roddie loved to garden and was well known for his rhubarb and especially his tomatoes. Many people enjoyed baskets of his home grown vegetables come harvest time. In keeping with Roddie’s generous nature, he has donated his body to the Dalhousie Medical Center. A celebration of Roddie’s life will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. There will be a reception to follow after the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, or the Cape Breton Cancer Center, or a charity of one’s choice. We would like to thank Dr. J Archibald, Drs. Pahil and McCormack and the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer center, Dr. Ritter and Dr. Tobin and Laurie Mortimer of Palliative Care and all the wonderful nurses who took such good care of Roddie and his family in the An Cala unit of the Regional Hospital. We would also like to thank our wonderful extended family and friends who made these last few days bearable.

Helen Henrietta Doue

It is with deep regret that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Helen Doue at the Cove Guest Home on Monday, June 25, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Campbellton, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Sarah (Simmons) Kaiser. Helen was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She had a smile for everyone and enjoyed baking, making candies, knitting, singing and spending time with her family and friends. She volunteered with the Salvation Army, the Loaves and Fishes, and was a founding member of the Cape Breton Christian Fellowship Church. Helen is survived by her loving children, Beverly (Owen) Heisler, Edmonton, Alta., Brian (Lea) Doue, Sydney, Joel (Lana) Doue, Bedford, John Doue, Sydney, Diane (Bryan) MacDonald, Sydney, Walter (Jean) Doue, Texas, David Doue, Northwest Territories; Sandra (Trevor) Williams, Uxbridge, Ont.; 12 wonderful grandchildren, Sandra, Christopher, Caleb, Seth, Spencer, Samuel, Sarah, Amanda, Daniel, Rachael, Hannah and Ella; cousin, Brenda Oakley; brother, Sonny (Marilyn) Pryde, Digby; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, son, Barry Roger, and grandson, Cole Williams. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 28 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, June 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bruce DeYoung officiating. Interment to follow in the Alfred E. Smith Cemetery. Donna Marie Barter

It is with heavy hearts and deep regret that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Donna Marie Barter on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Mr. John Moore, Louisbourg, and the late Merna Moore. She was employed at Harbourstone in housekeeping. She will be missed by all who knew her. Besides her father John, Donna is survived by her two sons, John Edward (Juanita) Moore and Cole Barter, Newfoundland; loving grandchildren, Blair, Brandy, Justin and Jerret; sister, Effie (Neil) MacLeod, Louisbourg; as well as nephews, Nicholas, Chase and Cameron; nieces Kayla and Kelsey. Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her brother, John in infancy. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 28 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Louisbourg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m., Friday, June 29 at St. Bartholomew’s Church with Rev. Karen Quirk officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Walter Phillip Crane

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Walter P. Crane at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Friday, June 22, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Phyllis (Ryan) Crane and the late Walter A. Crane. He was employed as an operations supervisor with the Department of Transportation. A master of many trades, he enjoyed repairing, rebuilding, and making perfect anything he put his hand to. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, step dancer and fisherman. Besides his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Fran (Phillippo); daughter, Monica (Darrell) Crane-Spracklin, Calgary; sisters, Barbara (Bob) Cowieson, Ontario, Sharon Crane (Billy MacKinnon), Coxheath, Darlene (Tom) Morris, Coxheath, Rose Crane, Ontario; and brother, Robert (Julia) Crane, Ontario; his three nephews, Riley Morris, Coxheath, Scott and Ryan Cowieson, Ontario; as well as his mother-in-law, Louise Munroe, Coxheath; and sister-in-law, Linda Dacre, Ontario. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his sister, Bonnie Crane, father-in-law, Frank Phillippo, and brother-in-law, Cecil Dacre. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating, reception to follow. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.

Sarah Phillips Morrison

It is with heavy hearts and deep regret that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Sarah Morrison on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late James and Leona (McCarthy) Taylor. As a very young child, she moved to Kempt Head with her parents. A kind and gentle person, she spent most of her married life in Coxheath, where she raised her family. Her love for reading, gardening and the outdoors led her to be an active volunteer in the collection of wildlife data for the life of loons. Sarah is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Lloyd Morrison; her children, William (Connie) Morrison of Riverview, N.B., Marie (Francis) MacLean of Sydney, Stephen (Jennifer) Morrison of Hammonds Plains, Janice (Eric) Campbell of Sydney River, James Morrison of Coxheath, Nadine (Kari) Easthouse of Roberta, Darryl (Heidi) Morrison of Riverview, N.B.; her wonderful grandsons, Courtland, Riley, Jake and granddaughters, Ashley, Gillian, Sidney, Molly and Coco. She is also survived by her siblings, Katherine (Lloyd) Grant, Billy (Barb) Taylor, James Taylor, Barbara (Lorne) Redmond, George (Cathy) Taylor and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dunlop, Muriel Morrison, as well as many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Private family interment to take place at a later date. Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Unit.
