Rosalie Mary Legere
(August 21, 1916 - September 13, 2011)
The death of Rosalie Mary Legere occurred in Halifax on September 13th, 2011, after a lengthily illness, at the age of 95 years.
Rosalie was born on August 21, 1916 in Sackville, N.B.
She was a daughter of the late Phelicien and Leonie Landry.
She moved to Amherst as a child.
She was married in 1940 to Lionel Legere, who predeceased her 1985.
She was also predeceased by sisters, Anita Landry, Arzalie Thibodeau and Euphimie LeBlanc and by brothers Alphie, Gerald, Earl and Blair.
Also predeceased by a great-grandson, John.
Rosalie is survived by her two daughters, Diana (Ron) Albert of Edmonton; and Margaret Rose (Charles) Brake of Middle Sackville, NS and her two sons, Roderick (Joyce) Legere, Pembroke, Ontario and Peter (Kathy) Legere of Dartmouth.
She was a loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Emma Legere, Alex Legere, Matthew Legere, Andree Legere, Charles Brake, Charlene Fenn, Bruce Cormier, Steven Cormier, Leanne Widenmaier, Michael Legere, Rodney Legere, Nancy Legere, Valerie Legere, and Paula Legere ; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Rosalie is also survived by her two sisters, Margaret Moor, Amherst and Josephine Belanger, Winnipeg as well as several nieces and nephews.
During her younger years Rosalie enjoyed quilting and knitting.
She was a charter member of the St. Charles Ladies Auxilary.
She loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations across Canada.
Her remains are resting at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St. Amherst (667 9906).
There will be visiting from 7-9 PM on Thursday, September 15th.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst at 11 a.m. on Friday September 16, 2011 with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
Family flowers only please.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bridge Workshop, Amherst.

Margaret (Peggy) Jesty
(December 13, 1920 - August 28, 2011)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Margaret (Peggy) Jesty age 90 of Amherst announce her passing on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Gables Lodge in Amherst.
Born in Fox Roost, Newfoundland she was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Rossiter) Walters.
In her younger years she was an avid bowler and won many titles.
She enjoyed curling and playing bridge.
Peg loved gardening and took great pride in her rock garden at the cottage at Amherst Shore where she spent 60 summers.
She was a member of Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church of Amherst.
Mother is survived by her son Fred (Marilyn) of King City, ON and her daughter Beth (Tom) of Oxford, NS, three grandchildren Janet (Hugh) Murphy of Mississauga On, Jacquie (Greg) Ramier of Oakville, ON and James (Paula) Jesty of London ON, six great grandchildren, Jestyn and Hale Murphy, Emily and Nicholas Ramier and Annabelle and Linus Jesty; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George (1986), one brother Wilson and one sister Winifred.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until funeral service at 2:00 p.m. both in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with Rev. Cathy Tait officiating, reception to follow in the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.

Ryan William Sperry
(October 10, 1990 - August 10, 2011)
It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Ryan William Sperry age 20 of Amherst and Tidnish announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at home.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of Robert W. and Janice (White) Sperry.
He attended Amherst Regional High School and was very active in school and local sports.
Ryan was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend.
He will be sadly missed by his parents Bob and Janice, three sisters Sarah, Jessica and Jenny Lynn and niece Alexis Emma all at home, three half sisters Peggy of Amherst, Trudy of Pictou and Linda of Dartmouth, one half brother Bobby of Amherst, his girlfriend of four years Robyn Greeno, his maternal grandparents Joseph and Dorothy White of Amherst and two uncles Gary Sperry and Mike White.
Ryan was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Alvin (Buck) and Hilda Sperry, one uncle Doug and one aunt Betty.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS (667-9906).
Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. from Trinity St Stephens United Church, Amherst with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.
Interment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish.

Bill Riley Jr.
(Died September 27, 2011)
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Bill Riley Jr., 35, of Riverview, NB, and formerly of Amherst on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Moncton City Hospital with his loving family and friends by his side.
Little Bill was born on March 24, 1976 in Amherst; he was a son of James William Riley and Joanne (Gibson) Riley.
Little Bill was an avid sportsman and played for the Amherst Ramblers Jr.
A in 1994, where he received the Rookie of the Year Award.
Later he joined the renamed Amherst Mooseheads and then transferred to the East Hants Penguins, where he played for several seasons.
He was an employee with the Correctional Services of Canada at the Springhill Institution.
In his spare time, Little Bill loved to play the guitar, and also enjoyed fishing and clamming.
He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his parents; sisters, Carla Riley and Tracey Riley; his two sons, Jesse and Dustin; girlfriend, Monica; step-daughter, Emma; paternal grandparents, Jim and Gladys Riley; as well as several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (667-9906).
There will be no visitation.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Donald Miller officiating.
A time of refreshments and fellowship will follow in the church vestry.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Little Bill’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mrs. Charlotte Cecelia Forgeron
April 10, 1912 - August 2, 2007
We the family, are sad to announce that Charlotte (Heuser) Forgeron, age 95 passed away peacefully at The Cove Guest Home, Sydney on Thursday, August 2, 2007. Charlotte was a former resident of Highland Street, Glace Bay.
Born in River Denys Station, where she spent all her childhood years, she was the daughter of the late Gustave and Margaret Ann (MacMaster) Heuser. She attended elementary school at MacLean Bridge School and completed high school at Mount St. Bernard, Antigonish. Later she obtained her teachers license at the Mount and pursued her career as an educator in Eden, Glendale and Little Bras d’ Or.
In 1938, Charlotte married Seymour P. Forgeron of Main A Dieu and then resided in Glace Bay. She later graduated from UCCB in 1986 with her BACS degree and became very active in the “Each One Teach One” program.
Charlotte had a deep commitment to her family and friends. She and Seymour, when possible, attended every Celidh and gathering, taking place on Cape Breton Island. Their home was always open to their many family and friends with music being the highlight of the visits, which she so cherished.
Charlotte is survived by one sister, Rita Farrell of Valley, Truro and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Seymour, her son Hugh, brothers, Louis and Hugh, sisters, Kaye MacNeil, Mary Dunlop, Caroline Fraser and Frances MacNeil.
Visitation for Mrs. Forgeron will be Monday evening from 7-9 pm in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A Funeral mass of resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday August 7, 2007 at 10 am in St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Clifford Bisson officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial in the church foyer.
Mrs. Judy Diane During (Gridley)

DURING (Gridley), Judy Diane - 55, Lower Sackville, died in the VG Site, QEII, on July 29, 2007, after a lengthy illness. She was a daughter of William and Mary Anne Gridley of Yarmouth. Judy served her country for 20 years as an air force administration clerk in the Canadian Forces, including a peacekeeping tour in Egypt. She retired as a sergeant in 1993 due to her medical condition. Judy is sadly missed by her loving husband, Ray; sons, Raymond (Kristi), Greenwood; and Ron (Sherry), Yellowknife; grandchildren, Cody, Jena, and Maggie; goddaughter, Erin; brother, Robert; nephews, Matthew and Billy, Toronto; sister, Marian; nieces, Sarah and Tammy; great-niece, Abigail, Yarmouth; mother-in-law, Rita, and sister-in-law, Wendy, Halifax; special friends, Bev, Sharon, Gert, Donna, Carol, Kim, John Z., and her puppy, Gracie. Judy was an outgoing, loyal and generous soul who maintained a cheerful disposition through much adversity. She enjoyed a game of bingo and speeding around Sackville on her scooter. Mr. John Jeremiah "Myers" Hemlow
January 29, 1932 - July 31, 2007
HEMLOW, John Jeremiah "Myers" - 75, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 31, 2007, in Dartmouth General Hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born January 29, 1932, in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Alexander and Florence (Moffatt) Hemlow. Over the past six years, John had been a faithful and active member of South End Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War with PPCLI. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 27 years as a paratrooper, infantry and completed his career as supply technician. John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gloria (Smith); children, John, Ontario; Sandra (Al) Wilson, Calgary; Robert "R.G." (Deb), Calgary; Bruce (Judy), Winnipeg; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; siblings, Etta Brown, Hamilton, Ont.; Mae Morsh, Yarmouth; Muriel Baker, Hamilton, Ont.; Bruce, Vancouver, B.C.; Brian, Toronto, Ont.; Kay Cockran, Hamilton, Ont. He was predeceased by siblings, Melvin, Joan and Sandy. The family would like to thank the nurses of the 3rd Floor, Dartmouth General Hospital and the pastor and friends at South End Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where John's family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Joyce Stevens
July 1, 1931 - July 30, 2007
Joyce Stevens of Dartmouth passed away on July 30, 2007, in Dartmouth General Hospital. She lived each day to the fullest and loved life. She inspired and touched all who knew her with her strong and loving spirit. Born Joyce Forbes in Barrow, England, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Caroline (Cook) Forbes. She was also predeceased by her husband, Lt. Commander Eric Stevens. She is survived by sister, Jean Bellis, Abbotsford, B.C.; two nieces and a nephew. Also surviving are her sons, Dr. John and Charlotte (Young) Stevens, Indiana, and Paul and Kathy (Schnare) Stevens, Molega Lake; grandchildren, Leslie (Jeremy) Roehm, Indiana; Kent (Alicia), Colin, Catherine, all of Dartmouth; Ryan, Halifax; Jenna (Andrew Ditmar), Port Coquitlam, B.C.; great-grandchildren, Kelsie, Kadence, Indiana; Marley, Jacob, Dartmouth; and extended family, Carolyn, Darren, Jenna and Will Haas, Carol Langille, Patricia Bowers, Flo Kneeshaw, Madeline Kane, Anne and George Wallace, all of Dartmouth. Mrs. Shirley Blanche Knowles (Bell)

KNOWLES (Bell), Shirley Blanche - 79, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 29, 2007, in Melville Gardens, Halifax, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a daughter of the late Harold and Geneva Bell. Born in Halifax, Shirley lived most of her life in the Metro area. She will be fondly remembered as a committed Christian and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Shirley was a faithful member of the Full Gospel Church for 58 years. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Doris (Carrol) Hardaker; a brother and sister in infancy, and her son, James. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Merlin; daughters, Nancy (Clyde) Spindler and Shirley-Ann (Brian) Bodine, both of Columbus, Ohio; and Merlene (Murdock) Martin, Lower Sackville; sons, Donald (Sheryl), Fall River; Robert (Wendy), Bedford; daughter-in-law, Joann Magee, Montana; brothers, Lester (Delores), Niagra Falls; Ralph (Reene), Halifax; and Ronald (Rose), Toronto. She is also survived by her cherished 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Special thanks to her "bestest" friend, Reene, for all her love and support. We are also grateful to the dedicated team of caregivers, providing companionship, care and support to Shirley and our family over the past few months. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 2, at 2 p.m., both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Interment will be in Oakridge Memory Gardens with a reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home.
