William (Bill) Marshall King
(May 14, 1949 - September 20, 2011)
It is with sadness that the family of the late William (Bill) Marshall King age 62 of Tidnish announce his passing on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Edward and Mildred (Marshall) King.
Bill was a carpenter by trade and worked for many local contractors.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time at his camp.
Bill is survived by his two sons Jason (Mylinda) and Jeff both of Tidnish and their mother Betty King of Amherst, also three grandchildren Bradley, Jenna and Lauryn.
He is also survived by two sisters Joan Hape of Fort Lawrence and Margaret Fillmore of Scarborough, ON and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by a brother Robert (Bob) and sister in law Gloria King.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906).
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 1 p.m. in Campbell’s Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Bruce officiating.
Interment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge.
Memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Childhood Cancer or the charity of your choice.
Adele E. Osborn
(May 28, 1916 - August 16, 2011)
We are saddened to announce the death on August 16th of Adele Evangeline Osborn (nee Lortie), age 95, of Tatamagouche, NS, and formerly from Montreal, Lachute, QC, and Amherst, NS, occurred on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche, N.S.
Born in Montreal on May 28, 1916, she was a daughter of the late L. Philippe and Rebecca (Lanctot) Lortie.
Adele well be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Beverley (Blois) Hennigar, Amherst; son, Jonathan (Karen), Germantown, IL, U.S.A., sister Loula Gordon of Montreal; brother Dan (Grace Budrys), Chicago, IL, U.S.A.; grandchildren Craig, Susan, Dale, Jonathan, Heather, Patrick, Kate and Stephanie; great grandchildren Lauren, Allie, Jillian, Bridget, Russell, Brooke, Brittany, Spencer, Flash and Lotus, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Her husband, Albert Vaughan and sister Pauline Smith predeceased her.
We are grateful for the skilled and loving staff of Willow Lodge who provided compassionate care for Adele during her lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s.
It was always a joy to visit her and experience the creativity and thoughtfulness of her caregivers.
Our family and friends were always treated with exceptional respect and kindness.
Adele was a graduate of McGill University, earning degrees in Arts and Music.
She was an accomplished athlete, soloist, choir member, and educator, who taught at Elmgrove Elementary, St. Laurent High School, Winston Churchill High School and subsequently was appointed Head of the French Department for the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal.
In this role she was responsible for curriculum development, teacher training, and the introduction of French Immersion and the use of Language Labs.
A devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many, she had a long and rewarding life -- an inspiration to all who knew her.
A celebration of Adele’s life will take place Friday, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church, 1 Ratchford Street, Amherst, with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.
Adele will be laid to rest beside her husband, Vaughan, in the St. Aidan Cemetery in Louisa, QC, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Adele’s memory may be made to Willow Lodge, 100 Blair Road, Tatamagouche, NS, B0K 1V0, or the Alzheimer’s Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home in Amherst.
Bob Mills
(July 21, 1925 - August 22, 2011)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Norman Mills, 86, of Amherst following a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his family.
Born on July 21, 1925 in Baie Verte, NB, he was a son of the late Chandler and Elizabeth (Taggart) Mills.
Bob was a proud veteran of the Second World War, where he served in Italy, France, Sicily and England.
Following the war, Bob was employed in Ontario as a steel worker and assisted in building the CN Tower in Toronto.
After moving back home to Amherst, he worked for Kelly’s Ambulance and Taxi Service and later for D & J Taxi.
Bob’s driving experience lead him to establish his own taxi business in Amherst for several years.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife the former, Erma Lewis; daughters, Vicki (David) Arsenault, Shinimicas, NS, Terry (Ricky) MacKay, Amherst; sons, Gary (Linda), Oshawa, ON, Robert (Tracy) and Shawn, both of Amherst; step son, Richard Lewis, Moncton, NB; as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his son, James; brothers, Les, Bertrum, William, and Hugh; sister, Thelma MacKay.
His remains are resting in Campbell’s Funeral Home; 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) visiting on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m. with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10 tribute service at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from Campbell’s Chapel with Sister Teresa Currie officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fenwick Cemetery. Family flowers only.

Weldon Freeman Hunsley
(May 16, 1916 - September 19, 2011)
It is with sadness that the family of the late Weldon F. Hunsley age 95, of Amherst announce his passing on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in East Leicester, Cumberland County, Weldon was a son of the late Earl and Ethel (Estabrooks) Hunsley.
Weldon enjoyed sports, he played baseball in the Old Church League as well as the junior and senior teams.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the RCAF both in Canada and overseas.
Weldon worked for Irving Oil in Amherst for 36 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a Past Chancellor and Life Member of Chignecto Lodge #11, Knights of Pythias, Amherst.
Weldon will be sadly missed by his wife the former Julia Patterson, two daughters Barbara (Arthur) Chapman of Dartmouth and Kathryn (David) Smith of Amherst, four grandchildren Stacey and Scott Chapman and Shawn and Kelsey Smith, one great grandson Kyle Chapman and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a son Michael Weldon, two brothers Garnet and Ernest and one sister Hazel Myatt.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Weldon’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or the charity of your choice.

Romona Mae Murphy
October 7, 1916 - August 22, 2007
MURPHY, Romona Mae, 90, Halifax, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, August 22, 2007, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
She is survived by her children, Sylvia (Gordon) MacAskill, Patricia Paddock and Larry (Carol) Murphy; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel; her parents and two sisters.
Funeral service for family and close friends 2 p.m. Monday, August 27, in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Mrs. Jane Downey (Way)
August 21, 1965 - August 25, 2007
DOWNEY (Way), Jane, 42, North Preston, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 25, 2007, at home.
Born August 21, 1965 in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of Eileen Meekins, Dartmouth, and David Way, Dartmouth.
She was employed with Atlantic Building Cleaners for several years and The Delta Barrington.
Along with her parents, Jane is survived by her stepfather, Gary Meekins, Dartmouth; husband, Miles Nelson Downey, Dartmouth; children, Antonio (Samantha), Siobhan, Dartmouth; Sophia and Jeremy, both of North Preston; sister, Carol (Glen) Beals, North Preston; brother, David (Tracy) Way, Dartmouth; six grandchildren; godchildren, Joseph, Makala and Cornell; very special friend, Scott Downey, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by sister, Brenda Way; granddaughter, Laneesha Downey.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and funeral service 1 p.m. Wednesday, both in Saint Thomas United Baptist Church, North Preston, Rev. Wallace Smith officiating.
Interment in the church cemetery.
