Mrs. Sue Rudolph
February 4, 1940 - August 7, 2007

RUDOLPH, Sue, 67, Harrietsfield, passed away quietly on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Arthur "Chris" and Dorothy (Perrier) Beaman. She is survived by husband, Calvin Misener; daughter, Sharon (Terry) Mombourquette; son, Charles (Jill); granddaughters, Amanda and Stephanie Mombourquette; brothers, William Beaman, Chris (Alexis) Beaman, all of Halifax; Roland (Cindy) Beaman, Canning; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Sharon Beaman; brother, Gordon Beaman. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. All are invited to attend a graveside service at 2 p.m. Friday in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5161 George St., Floor 7, Halifax, NS B3J 1M7, are welcomed.

Mr. Roy Sewell
March 23, 1921 - August 7, 2007

SEWELL, Roy, 86, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home with his family present on August 7, 2007. He was born in Hamilton, Ont., on March 23, 1921. Roy was a very gentle, patient, compassionate, generous, courageous, fun loving and devoted family man, who was loved and respected by all. He was especially a wonderful husband, dad and "paba". He had a razor sharp and quick wit; enjoyed hearing and telling jokes and was often involved in many a good prank during his navy days. He always enjoyed a good wager or bet and was a skilled coupon and discount specialist. He loved animals and children and even kept treats for passing dogs in the trunk of his car (they knew it). Volunteering was an integral part of his life. Some of the organizations included The Maritime Paraplegic Association, The Canadian Bible Society and The Nova Scotia Square and Round Dance Federation. He left school early to help support two families during depression years. He worked at Canadian Westinghouse for a couple of years before he volunteered for the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) serving on the HMCS St. Laurent, HMCS Annapolis and then Magnetic Mine Sweeping in Dartmouth. Following the war, he completed high school (in seven months) and then went on to earn his B.Comm. in 1951 (Dalhousie) and Chartered Accountancy (1953). He worked for Lee and Martin, Chartered Accountants, for about six years and then joined the Federal Public Service with Revenue Canada Taxation in 1957. In 1962, he became an auditor with the Auditor General of Canada. He concluded his career in March 1978 as the Regional Audit Manager for the Atlantic Provinces. During retirement, he was strongly encouraged by Jean to take up square and round dancing, which they thoroughly enjoyed many times a week for 21 years. They also enjoyed traveling, golfing, camping and their trailer in Sherwood Forest Trailer Park (Coldbrook) for almost 20 years. They were so active that they were hard to find at home (check the restaurants). He is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Jean (Black); daughter, Jan (Weisenburger) and husband Bill, Pine Lake, Alta., and son, Ron and wife Anne, Ottawa, Ont.; son-in-law, Marvin Butlin. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marilyn (Butlin). He is also survived by his sister, Norma (Stoneman) and husband Gordon, Newmarket, Ont.; cousin, Edna and husband Pete Gurney, Burlington, Ont.; grandchildren, Keri Butlin (Bruce) and Jeff Butlin, Robert and David Sewell, and Chris and Cory Weisenburger; great-grandchildren, Kristina Sewell and Leigh Bruce; nieces, Valerie, Elizabeth, Heather and Bonnie, and nephews, John and Bill. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, in Stairs Memorial United Church, 44 Hester St., Dartmouth, followed by a reception in the hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, a charity of your choice or the QEII Palliative Care Program (Foundation Office, 1278 South Park St., Halifax, NS B3H 2Y9).

Mrs. Anthoula Veletas (Zervobeakos)
December 6, 1931 - August 8, 2007

VELETAS (Zervobeakos), Anthoula - 75, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Karvela, Greece, Anthoula was a daughter of the late Alexandros and Ourania (Poulimenakou) Zervobeakos. Anthoula immigrated to Canada in 1962, and it was in Canada where she met her husband Nick. For many years Anthoula and Nick were the owners of White Rose Dry Cleaners. She was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church and Community. Anthoula enjoyed gardening in her backyard, but was happiest spending late nights cooking for, and being surrounded by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Nick, of 40 years; her children, Mata (Haralampos) Panagiotidis and Bill (Marina) Veletas. She was a loving Yiayia to Anthi, Nick and Efrosini. She is also survived by her brothers, Leonidas, Kostas, Dennis, and Vasili, as well as several nieces and nephews. Anthoula was predeceased by her sisters, Antonia and Maria (Doukakou), and her brother, Panagioti. Arrangements are entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., where visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday. The funeral mass will take place in St. George's Greek Orthodox Church with Father Panagiotis Maropoulos presiding at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 13. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George's Greek Orthodox Church. A special thank you to Dr. Vitale and the staff of QEII Health Sciences Centre.

Mrs. Doreen Grace MacDonald
February 27, 1931 - August 5, 2007

MACDONALD, Doreen Grace - 76, Dartmouth, passed away suddenly Sunday, August 5, 2007 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born February 27, 1931 in Toronto, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Locke) Riley. In 1952, she married George Fraser Macdonald, who predeceased her in 1957. She worked for many years as a loans officer with the Royal Bank, mostly in Toronto. She relocated to 47 Beaufort St., Dartmouth, in 1989, with longtime friend and companion, Mae Purdy, and continued with Royal Bank for a short time until her retirement. In 2003 she moved to Melville Heights and then to Parker Street, Dartmouth, in 2005. During her youth, Doreen loved to play baseball and hockey with the boys and was sometimes accused of being a tomboy. As she got older she became a skillful golfer and enjoyed the sport. She even raced stock cars in the Powder Puff category, a pastime shared with her husband. Doreen had a soft spot in her heart for animals, especially her cats, Tuna and Buttons, and her dog, Cindy-Rose. She was an avid reader and exchanged books constantly with her many friends and family. Doreen and Mae loved to travel, and visited Florida numerous times, as well as Dominican Republic and Hawaii. Doreen is survived by sister, Barbara (Dunc) Tippell, Ontario; nephew, Scott (Jackie) Tippell, Ontario; niece, Deborah (Doug) Yake, Ontario; grandnephews, Robert Tippell and Philip Yake; grandnieces, Kathryn Tippell and Danielle Yake; extended family, Stephen and June Rigden, Sandra Britten and Joanne Urdang and families; many close friends, especially Evelyn Burris and Gloria Martin. She was predeceased by her husband, George Macdonald; special sister, Mae Purdy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where Doreen's family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday and where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow. Family flowers only. Mr. Anne Levangie
February 26, 1934 - August 10, 2007

LEVANGIE, Anne - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest mother and grandmother, Anne Levangie, 73, on August 10, 2007. She was a daughter of the late Ernest Haley and Annie Haley (McGrath). She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ambrose, the love of her life, who she will now join to finish their journey together in heaven. She is survived by her children, Geraldine Crawley (Edward), Lake Echo; Carolyn Reeves (Marques), Middle Sackville; Helen Evans, Ontario; Sharon Evans, Dartmouth; Darlene Evans, Ontario; Stephen Evans, Ontario; Mary Evans-Ash (Brad), Ontario; Christine Evans (Keith Rose), Lower Sackville; Annette D'Ambrosio, Ontario; Janice Shortall (Gerry), Dartmouth. She is also survived by her sisters, Emily White (Thomas), Florence Bowser, Dartmouth; Helen Flumerfelt, Ontario; Evelyn Deagle (Michael Buck), East Gore; brothers, Ernest Haley (Mary), Halifax, and Gary Haley, Ontario. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her, especially her friends at Northwood Manor. Visitation will be Monday, August 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., where the memorial service will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lower Sackville. Donations made be made to the Dialysis Unit of the VG Site, QEII.

Mrs. Willena Mary (Tighe) Hinchey
August 10, 1936 - August 12, 2007

Willena Mary Hinchey, 71, of St. Joseph St., New Waterford passed away peacefully in New Waterford Hospital on August 12, 2007. Born in New Victoria, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Willena Mary (Turnbull) Tighe. Willena was a member of the former Mount Carmel parish and the church choir. A proud homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and baking for her family who truly were her life. She was a gentle,genuine, and beautiful lady with a big heart which in turn made her a very special wife,mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,sister, and friend to all. Willena was an avid tarabish player who also enjoyed club with her sisters, going to Margaree, gardening, watching golf and singing. Music was one of her true passions and played a significant role during her last days. Surviving are her husband, William Joseph "Billy"; daughters Clara Frances (Steve) McVarish, Bedford, Willena Mary (Wally) Jardine, New Victoria, Joan- Anne (Wayne) Morrison, New Waterford, Veronica Mary (Ian) Jollimore, Williamswood, N.S.; sons Billy-B (Colleen), Oakville, Ont., John James (Patricia), Reserve, Troy (Jennifer), Edmonton, Derrick (Ashley), New Waterford; sisters Verna (Horace) Lovell, Lingan, Anna Currie, New Waterford, Catherine "Lucille" McRury, New Victoria, Lovie (John) Murphy, Sydney, Agnes "Agatha" Kelly, Anita "Nita" (Winston) MacKenzie, both of New Victoria; brothers Jackie Tighe, New Waterford, Eddie (Colleen) Tighe, Lingan, Harry (Stella) Tighe, Port Hawkesbury, Vince (Lorraine) Tighe, Boston, Tony (Elaine) Tighe, New Victoria, Francis (Colleen) Tighe, Lingan; 18 grandchildren; three great -grandchildren; special sister- in- law, Mary "Moo Moo" MacNeil. Willena was predeceased by a special grandson Curtis Hinchey, special brothers Tommy and James, and a special sister Victoria Corbett. As per Willena's wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Wednesday, August 15 at 11 a.m. in the parish of St. Leonard/Mount Carmel Church with burial in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the Carmel Centre. Donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or Foster Parent Plan. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.

Mrs. Agnes "Nan" "Annie" Graham
June 15, 1941 - August 13, 2007

GRAHAM, Agnes "Nan" "Annie" - 66, Eastern Passage, passed away suddenly at home Monday, August 13, 2007. Born in Grangemouth, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Campbell) McKellar. She recently retired after 27 years from Northwood Care Inc. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Graham; daughters, Susan (Brian) Chiasson, Sharon (Michael) Keddy; brother, Ian (Margaret) McKellar; grandchildren, Nathan, Kayleigh, Brianna, Ethan, and Dakota. Nan will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, including her family pets, Bill and Marley. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Abilities Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Mrs. Jocelyn Kay Raymond-Read (Motyer)
March 30, 1930 - August 13, 2007

RAYMOND-READ (Motyer), Jocelyn Kay - Born March 30, 1930, in Paget, Bermuda, departed this life August 13, 2007, in Halifax. Jocelyn was a journalist, artist, author, educator and devoted parent, who leaves behind a multitude of friends. Among them are her grieving husband, Robert Read; children, Michele (Russell MacKinnon) and Jacques (Tara Joules); sister, Jacqueline Blagrave, Rothesay, N.B.; brother, Arthur, Sackville, N.B., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Lattin Raymond. Jocelyn came to Canada to attend university in 1946, graduating from McMaster University. She returned to Bermuda and worked as a print and broadcast journalist with ZBM and the MidOcean News, but moved to Toronto in 1952 for postgraduate work in social work and child study. She taught at the University of Toronto's Institute of Child Study, and wrote a weekly column for the Globe and Mail on "Living with Children" from 1954 to 1964. Jocelyn and Richard moved to Nova Scotia in 1964, where she was instrumental in bringing human rights and childcare legislation to the province. She taught in the education department at Mount Saint Vincent University, as well as starting the university's Early Childhood Education program. Jocelyn served on numerous boards of directors in Halifax over the years, but she will be most remembered for her mischievous wit, infectious laughter and a deep concern for others which did not desert her even in her final days. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Saint Augustine's Church, 290 Purcells Cove Rd., Halifax, Father John O. Scott presiding. No flowers by request, but donations in Jocelyn's memory may be made to the Single Parent Centre in Spryfield or Bermuda Aquarium.
