Mrs. Eileen Brown
June 1, 1945 - August 14, 2007
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen Brown age 62 of New Aberdeen, Glace Bay. Eileen passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Boone) Martin. Eileen was a member of St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen. She was very active in the community. She was a member of Ring 73 Ladies Auxiliary.
Eileen enjoyed a wonderful week at the family reunion with over 150 Martin relatives and family last week. Eileen was truly at her best when in the company of her family and friends sharing a laugh and a good time.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Urban, son, Rob (Linda), daughters, Tammy, Stephanie, cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Kenzie, sisters, Rita, Cecilia, Kay, brothers, Ronnie (Anne), Leo (Gail), Fabian “Fay” (Diane), Bill, Paul (Eliz). Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Eileen was predeceased by sisters, Mary, Mel, brothers, Harry and Robert.
Visitation for Eileen Martin will be held Thursday 7-9 p.m. only at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Friday at St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen with Fr. John MacIntyre officiating.
Mrs. Mary Elsie Bond
September 9, 1913 - August 15, 2007
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Elsie Bond age 93 at her residence on Wednesday, August 15, 2007.
Born in New Glasgow she was the daughter of the late John and Emily (Myers) Durant. Elsie was one of nine children.
She will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Theresa Roberts, Dartmouth, Doreen Woodland. Donna (Roy) MacLellan, Yvonne Doyle – Glace Bay, sons, Michael Doyle, Halifax, Wayne (Linda) Doyle, Seabrook, NH, siblings, Eric, Glace Bay, Hilda and Clifford – Ontario, twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Leo Doyle and her second husband, Robert Bond, daughter, Leona Morrison, son, Patrick Doyle, grandchildren, Leo & Blair Morrison, siblings, Mike, Vera, Muriel, Francis and Dorothy.
A private family visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Cremation will follow.
Mrs. Susan Charlene Slaunwhite
February 18, 1964 - August 15, 2007
SLAUNWHITE, Susan Charlene, 43, Halifax. It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear Susan Charlene on August 15, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII, surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born February 18, 1964, a daughter of Robert Earl and Shirley (Smith) Slaunwhite of Terence Bay. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. A beautiful lady, she had a smile for all who knew her and was a friend to all she met. She will never be forgotten and will be in our hearts forever. She worked for Cambridge Suites Hotel, Halifax, for five years. Susan is survived by her loving husband, Gregory; daughters, Nicole and Justine, Halifax; sister, Marlene (Shannon Spencer) Slaunwhite, and nephew, Ryan Spencer, all of Terence Bay; also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial service will take place 2 p.m. Monday, August 20, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Interment will take place in St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery, Terence Bay, at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Paul's Anglican Church, Terence Bay, in memory of our Susan Charlene.
Miss Megan Rebecca Van Amburg-Parsons

VAN AMBURG-PARSONS, Megan Rebecca - 18, Middle Sackville, passed away suddenly August 15, 2007, in Sackville. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Carl Parsons and Deborah Van Amburg. Megan was employed with Shoppers Drug Mart. She is survived by sisters, Amanda Van Amburg, Dartmouth; Emily, at home. She will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Megan loved animals and enjoyed swimming and "chillin'" with her friends. She was very loving and compassionate with a great sense of humour. She was predeceased by sister, Amy. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday with funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. Reception to follow in the funeral home reception lounge. Mr. Thomas M. Tagg

TAGG, Thomas M., 84, Halifax, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2007, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Tipperary, Ireland, he was the son of the late William and Winnifred (Kett) Tagg. He served during the Second World War in the Canadian Grenadier Guards. Beloved husband of 62 years to Doreen Joan (Blackman) Tagg. Loving father of daughter, Janet (Michael) Sweeney, Halifax; sons, John (Emma), Toronto; Brian (Susan), Toronto; Barry (Brenda), Montreal. He was predeceased by brother, John, and daughter-in-law, Elaine. "Grandpa" will be sadly missed by Todd, Mark, Deirdre, Jasmine, Justin, Jemma, Troy, Caitlin, Jade and Nathan. A gentle and giving man who will remembered fondly for his love for his wife and family. The family would like to thank the staff of 5 West and 6 West of the Veterans' Memorial Hopsital for their excellent care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Private family interment will take place in the Veteran's Columbarium in Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Paul Cleveland Dodge
February 13, 1913 - August 17, 2007
DODGE, Paul Cleveland, 94, Dartmouth, passed away August 17, 2007, in Oceanview Manor. Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Fredrick and Winnifred (Cleveland) Dodge. He had worked in Flin Flon, Man., for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company for several years. Paul also worked for 31 years at the HMCS Dockyard in Halifax, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Dartmouth Curling Club and a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church. He is survived by his sister, Marion (Milledge) Cameron, Liverpool; brother, Herbert (Barbara) Dodge, Bathurst, N.B.; nieces, Elizabeth "Bette" (Al) Breti, Regina, Sask.; Elizabeth Vienneau, Bathurst, N.B., and her son Christopher; Ann (Danny) Frenette, Oklahoma, and their children, Bryan and Bradley; nephew, Andrew (Sandra) Cameron, Dartmouth, their children Blair and Kristen. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Relindis J.; brother, Ronald (Ann) Dodge, and nephew, John Dodge. Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Mr. Nicholas Franklin Merrill
November 4, 1986 - August 19, 2007
Nicholas Franklin Merrill age 20, of Amherst passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 19, 2007.
Born in Amherst, he was the beloved son of Ian and Brenda (Lee) Merrill.
He was a graduate of Amherst Regional High School and had attended Compu College in Moncton. Nick loved sports, especially hockey and played for the Parrsboro Junior C. He played baseball and was a member of the Bunch of Guys slow pitch team in Amherst. Nick was very athletic and spent much of his time working out, playing tennis, jogging and was a coach for a local soccer team. He worked with his Dad in the family business. Nick was a good person who loved life and had many friends and was loved by all who knew him. He was very proud of his new nephew and loved being uncle Nick.
Nick is survived by one sister Cherie at home, nephew Evan Nicholas, maternal grandfather Norman Lee and his wife Betty of Amherst, two aunts Sherri (Gilles) Quesnel of Moncton and Jean (David) Harrison of Amherst, five uncles Timmy and Jonathan Lee of Moncton and David Lee of Amherst, Steve (Maureen) Merrill of Moncton and Jeff (Joyce) Merrill of Shubenacadie and many cousins.
He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Frank and Irene Merrill his maternal grandmother Geraldine Lee.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst. (902-667-9906)
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. from First Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Byron Corkum and Rev. Charlie and Karen Cross officiating.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
Donations in Nick's memory may be made to the Cumberland YMCA or charity your choice.
