Mrs. Dorothy Alma "Dottie" (Haverstock) Anthony
December 19, 1916 - September 6, 2007

ANTHONY (Haverstock), Dorothy Alma "Dottie", 90, Hammonds Plains, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 6, 2007, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born December 19, 1916, in Herring Cove, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius and Alma (Baker) Sullivan. Dottie loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and all kinds of animals. She also enjoyed needlework and many will treasure the many gifts she made for them, including socks, sweaters, scarves and many other things. She liked bowling and was still active on the Pat LeBlanc Bowling League right up until two years ago. Dottie was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by daughter, Dorothy (Owen) Lynch, Hammonds Plains; sons, James "Jim" (Debbie), Hammonds Plains; Kenneth (Maxine), West Bay, Cape Breton; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Fielding Haverstock; second husband, John Lester Anthony; sisters, Geraldine Duggan, Margaret Sullivan; brothers, Everett, Charles and Douglas Sullivan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, where Dottie's family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, and where the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Private family interment will be held. Flowers or donations in Dottie's memory to a charity of one's choice are welcomed.

Mrs. Annie Rita Samuel
March 31, 1936 - September 8, 2007

Annie Rita Samuel, 71, of Wood Ave., New Waterford passed away peacefully September 8, 2007 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Florence (MacPherson) Roach. Annie enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Surviving are brothers, John Roach, New Waterford, Gus Roach, Ont.; several nieces, nephews and her late husband's family. She was predeceased by her husband Bob and a sister Mary. As per Annie's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mrs. Barbara Irene Smith
October 11, 1948 - September 8, 2007

Barbara Irene Smith age 58, of Shinimicas, Cumberland Co., N.S. passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the Moncton Hospital, Moncton, N.B. surrounded by her family.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Myrtle (Doyle) Baxter.
Barb worked as secretary in several Amherst schools and most recently West Highlands School on Hickman Street in Amherst.
She enjoyed a variety of puzzles and arts and crafts, especially cross-stitch.
Barb is survived by her husband Arnold Jr., son Scott of Pinawa, Manitoba and daughter Tricia Smith of Vermilion, Alberta, sisters Linda (Layton) Finley of Truemanville, Charlene Baxter (Ian Swantee) of River John and Gayle (Greg) Gillespie of Halifax County, brother Eugene (Elsie) Baxter of Amherst Head and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Steven Longmoore officiating.
Interment will take place in the Shinimicas Cemetery.
Family flowers only.
Donations in Barb's memory may be made to the Shinimicas Cemetery Fund, the Amherst Head United Church, West Highlands School Library Fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Rose Helena MacDonald
November 22, 1907 - September 10, 2007

It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Rose MacDonald announce her sudden passing on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Margaree in 1907, Rose was a daughter of the late Julia and Medric LeBlanc. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her only daughter, Janette MacDonald, New Waterford; sons, Russell, New Waterford, Alex (Marilyn), Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband Rannie 'Taxi', sisters Bernadette Cormier, Anita Wiseman and brothers Albert and Simon LeBlanc. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church with burial in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the Carmel Center. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mr. Albert Joseph O'Connell
May 18, 1955 - September 9, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Joseph O’Connell age 52 of Morrison Street, Glace Bay. Albert passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of Joseph and Theresa (Poirier) O’Connell. Albert was a member of St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen. He was a former employee of Devco for 27 years retiring from Phalen Colliery. He enjoyed carpentry work. Albert loved to spend time at the beach with his wife, Cathy, going to the gym with his son, Daniel and enjoyed walking with his best friend, Bruce.
Besides his parents he will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Cathy (Kennedy), son, Daniel, step-daughters, Alisha and Angela, sisters, Linda (Charlie) Magliaro, Sydney, Gail (Wally) Jackman, Ontario, Diane (Darrell) McDonald, Reserve Mines, Joan (Freeman) Jenkins, Glace Bay, Ann (Richard) Watkins, Ontario, brothers, Robert (Donna), Glace Bay, Michael (Monica), South Korea, David (Linda), B.C., Gerry (Beverly), Ont.
In honoring Albert’s wishes, cremation will take place. A funeral mass will be celebrated 7 p.m. on Wednesday at St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen. Fr. John MacIntyre will be officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations in Albert’s memory may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Mrs. Elaine Paddock
September 11, 1954 - September 10, 2007

PADDOCK (Gray), Elaine Laura, passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness with multiple sclerosis, on September 10, 2007, in the loving arms of her husband. She was predeceased by her father, Stanley S. Gray. She leaves to mourn her husband, Eric; sons, Aaron and Ernest (Robin), who were the love of her life; mother, Greta Gray; sister, Lorraine; brother, Mark, all whom she loved dearly. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. Funeral service will be held in Knox United Church, 567 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 13. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Flowers graciously accepted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society, Atlantic Division.

Mrs. Phyllis Eileen Graham
December 27, 1934 - September 9, 2007

GRAHAM, Phyllis Eileen, 72, Cole Habour, passed away peacefully September 9, 2007, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born December 27, 1934, in Eastern Passage, she was a daughter of the late Maynard and Doris (Glazebrook) Morash. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Leith; brother, Bill (Carol) Morash; sisters, Thelma (John) Knudsen and Carol A. Morash, all of Eastern Passage; sister-in-law, Marie Morash; several nieces and nephews with whom she shared numerous happy occasions. She is also survived by her uncle, Sherman (Jacquie) Glazebrook, Cole Harbour. She was predeceased by brother, Edison. Phyllis grew up in Eastern Passage and was an active member of St. Peter's Anglican Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the AYPA and founding member of the Junior Auxiliary. After her marriage to Leith, they moved to Cole Harbour where she attended St. Andrew's Anglican Church and taught Sunday school there for many years. Phyllis worked for the Civil Service retiring from Civilian Personnel after 37 years from C.F.B. Shearwater in 1989. Phyllis was an avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching many sports. The Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Mascar and Nascar racing and curling were some of her favourites. She was also actively involved with the Cole Harbour Junior Hockey Team, Scotia Colts for a number of years. She also enjoyed many years of RVing, traveling throughout Canada and the United States, and cherished the many friends she and Leith made over the years. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth where memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Rev. Kirby Walsh officiating. Burial will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in memory of Phyllis to your favourite charity would be appreciated by her family.
