Mr. Sidney "Tootie" Hope
July 19, 1931 - September 22, 2007
Sidney "Tootie" Hope age 76, of Amherst passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan, N.S.
Born in Amherst he was a son of the late Sidney and Winnie (Carter) Hope.
He was an honorary member of the Amherst Fire Department for over 20 years where he served as Captain on the Rescue and Salvage Corp. Tootie owned and operated his own trucking service in Amherst and later drove taxi cab for various taxi companies in the town of Amherst. He was a member of the Amherst Slow Pitch League until he was 53 years of age. Tootie loved playing darts and was a member of the Good Timers Dart League.
He is survived by one son Ken (Debbie) of Amherst, two daughters Nancy (Paul) Hope and Margaret (Fred) Hope both of Amherst, grandchildren Greg, Stephen, Richard, Elizabeth, Michael, Kelsi and Kennedy, one brother Ronald (June) of Amherst a sister -in-law Jean Hope of Oxford and many nieces and nephews.
Tootie was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, the former Doreen Arsenault, one son Jackie, one daughter Sandra, brothers Sanford, William and Bob, one sister Jean Hunter and one sister-in-law Pauline Hope.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
Donations in Tootie's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Mrs. Annie Wardrope
July 16, 1926 - September 25, 2007
WARDROPE, Annie, 81, Dartmouth, passed away September 23, 2007, at home. Born in Grates Cove, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Leopold and Effie (Avery) Noel. She had many hobbies and interests, including copper art and especially rug hooking. Annie loved nature and the outdoors, she loved to cross-country ski and took great pride in her garden. She will be sadly missed by the many friends she has made over the last 15 years at the morning coffee breaks. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Richard; son, Peter Noel (Karen Morgenroth); daughter, Frances Noel Wardrope; brother, Clive Noel. She was predeceased by brothers, Clyde, Peter, Raftus, Llewellyn, as well as son-in-law, Stephan. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Private family burial will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens at a later date. Donations in Annie's memory may be made to a charity of choice.
Mr. Gary Everett Rix
December 5, 1943 - September 24, 2007
RIX, Gary Everett - 63, Mineville, passed away suddenly Monday, September 24, 2007. Gary was a son of the late Everett and Leone (Arbing) Rix. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda (Brown) Rix, Mineville; children, Natalie (James) Jonasson, Ottawa; Todd (Brandi) Rix, Stratford, P.E.I.; grandchildren, Alyssa and Lauren; siblings, Don, Eric, Ralph, Betty (Ballard) and Bob. As a young man one of his first jobs was as a Purser on the icebreaker "John A. MacDonald". After completing his Bachelor of Commerce and becoming a CMA he went on to work for Nova Scotia Light and Power Company and then for the Department of Natural Resources. He retired as Senior Director of Administration. Throughout his retirement he continued to work for the Province House Credit Union where he was Vice President on the Board of Directors. His passions in life were his family, friends, fishing, hunting, gardening and reading. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St. Dartmouth. Visitation will be Friday, September 28, from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service, with Pastor Frank Kohler officiating, will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, with a reception to follow. Interment at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
Mrs. Nina Minnie Pepper
September 3, 1920 - September 25, 2007
PEPPER, Nina - 87, Dartmouth, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2007, in Carter Senior Care. Born in Moncton, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Mabel Louise (Duffy) and Stanley Rutherford Hunter (Moncton). Nina was an avid reader, loved playing bridge, writing poetry, and spending time with family and friends. She was an employee of Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries in Halifax until her retirement in 1985. Nina was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Victor George Pepper, who was also formerly of Moncton; and brothers, Rudolph and Ronald. She is survived by her children, John, Patricia (Garry) Roberts, Michael (Judie), Brian (Cathy), and Jana (Curtis) Ashley; daughters-in-law: Norma (Walker) Pepper and Michelle (Guimond) Pepper; grandchildren, Gregory, Susan, Jason, Robert, Michael, Adam, Kyle, Christopher, and Thomas; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Emily, Nicholas, Colby, Emryss, Jacob, Drake, Brenden and Tara; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, Rev. David LeBlanc officiating. Reception to follow in the Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Interment will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 29, in Elmwood Cemetery, Elmwood Drive, Moncton, Dr. Richard Jackson of the First Baptist Church, Moncton, officiating. ROGERS, Bertha, 98, Halifax, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007, in Northwood Centre. Born in Lamaline, N.L., she was a daughter of the late John and Deborah (Pike) Crews. Bertha is survived by her daughter, Mildred (Gordon) Lewis, Halifax; grandson, Roger (Katherine) Lewis, Halifax; granddaughter-in-law, Wilhelmina Lewis, Sackville; great-grandchildren, David, Natasha, Nicole, and Corey. She was predeceased by her husband, Luke; grandson, Bill; brothers, Alex, Bill and George, and sister, Lucy. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today and the funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, Captain James and Michelle Mercer officiating. Mrs. Caroline Catherine Hobin
December 8, 1920 - September 27, 2007
HOBIN, Caroline Catherine, 86, East Uniacke, passed away peacefully September 27, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in River Bourgeois, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Alexina (Dugas) DeRoche. She was an avid gardener and knitter. She received the CHNS I Care Award two years in a row for knitting over 450 pairs of mittens the first year and 500 pairs the second year for the Salvation Army Christmas drive. She loved camping and fishing with her husband, Tom. Her favourite activities at Dykeland were bingo, bus trips and Tuesday night music concerts. She is survived by daughters, Theresa (Mrs. Lester Lynch) and Joan (Mrs. Stephen Davies), both of East Uniacke; sons, Lee and his wife Sharon, East Uniacke; John and his wife Dora, Gore; Roy and his wife Charlene, Tantallon; grandchildren, Mark Lynch, Vicki Lynch, Thomas (Kelly) Hobin, Michael Hobin, Angela (Richard) McCormack and Jeffrey Davies, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; sisters, Minnie Brown, Lillian Patterson, and brother, George DeRoche. The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the staff at Dykeland Lodge for the excellent care they gave their mother and also the family during these last days. She always called the Lodge her home. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday in Atlantic Funeral Home. Reception to follow in the funeral home reception room. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Mrs. Gertrude Margaret Kent
December 11, 1917 - September 28, 2007
KENT, Gertrude Margaret, 89, Coldbrook, formerly of Dartmouth, passed away September 28, 2007, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in West Jeddore, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Laura (Blakney) McGregor. Gertrude lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed bingo, knitting and spending time with her family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Gertrude is survived by daughters, Joyce Peters, who Gertrude lived with in Coldbrook; Shirley (Michael) Corbett, Moncton; son, Walter (Mary) Kent, Prince Edward Island; sisters-in-law, Winnie Peterfoy, Sackville; Maddie McGregor, Dartmouth; brother-in-law, Lorne Purdy, Truro; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Gertrude was predeceased by husband, Harold, in 1998; sisters, Helen and Phillis; brothers, Marvin, Kenneth, Russell, and Merlin "Joe". Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with funeral service on Monday at 2 p.m., both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial to follow in Pleasant Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada or charity of choice. Mr. Russell Boutilier
May 3, 1929 - September 30, 2007
Russell Boutilier, age 78, of New Waterford, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 30, 2007.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Charles & Ellen 'Nellie' (Ratchford) Boutilier.
Russell was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael's Church, River Ryan. He retired from Lingan Colliery after 41 years of service in the coal mining industry.
Russell was a very social man with a great sense of humour. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and was also known as a great story teller. But mostly, Russell will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Russell is survived by his wife the former Vicky Matlock, son Brian (Doreen), Ontario, daughter Cecille (Tom) Ferguson, Halifax, sisters Geraldine (Peter) MacKinnon, Anna Abraham and one brother Raymond (Frances) Boutilier all in River Ryan. Also surviving are Russell's three grandchildren, Victoria and Alexander Boutilier and Liam Ferguson.
Russell was predeceased by his sister Leona Burke of River Ryan.
There is no visitation as cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 4th, 2007, 11 a.m. at the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael's Church with interment in the parish cemetery. Fellowship will take place in the Gaul Centre.
