Colin Edward LYON
July 25, 1945 - September 28, 2007
Colin Edward Lyon, age 62, of Halifax, formerly of Avondale, Hants County, passed away Friday, September 28th, 2007, in the Q.E. II Infirmary Site, Halifax, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family & friends.
Born in Windsor on July 25th, 1945, he was a son of Muriel Benedict and the late Robert Lyon.
Colin made his career as a Respiratory Therapist with the V.G. Halifax, and the I.W.K. spanning over 40 years. During this time he made many life long friends.
Surviving besides his mother, Muriel Benedict, are his five siblings, Ida (Edwin) Dimock, Belmont, Hants County; Frederick (Glenda) Lyon, North Bay, Ontario; William (Marg) Lyon, Port Dover, Ontario; Nancy (Gordon) Flynn, Newport Station, Hants County; Katherine (Antonio) Villafuerte, Laval, PQ; sister-in-law, Myrtle Lyon, Dykeland Lodge, Windsor; step-brothers, Clayton Benedict, Windsor; Morris (Ella) Benedict, Sweets Corner; Dale (Sharon) Benedict, Avondale; step-sisters, Joyce Harvey, Gypsum Mines; Faye (Clary) McCarthy, Three Mile Plains; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his long time feline companion, Pebbles.
He was predeceased by his half-brother, Medford Lyon, Falmouth; step-father, Stanfield Benedict.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday, October 1st, 2007, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
A celebration of Colin's life will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007, in Avondale United Church, Avondale, with the Rev. Shelley Pick officiating. Interment will be in the Newport Landing Cemetery, Avondale.

Mrs. Alice Mae Ellis (Collupy, Robertson)
January 4, 1916 - October 2, 2007
ELLIS (Collupy, Robertson), Alice Mae, 91, Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 2, 2007, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born January 4, 1916, in Birchtown, Shelburne Co., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ina (Acker) Collupy. Alice worked for many years as a buyer and manager at Jacobson Brothers, Dartmouth, and then at Dalhousie Purchasing until her retirement. Alice is survived by grandsons, David (Tanya) Jackson, Christopher (Amanda) Jackson, all of Lower Sackville; Michael (Kim) Jackson, Chezzetcook; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Ava and Connor Jackson; son-in-law, David Jackson, Upper Sackville; sister, Verna Robertson, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her first husband, G. Wilbert Robertson; second husband, Geoffrey Ellis; daughters, Gale Roberta Robertson, Shirley Irene Jackson; sister, Winnifred Harrow; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Collupy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Private family interment has taken place in Oakridge Memory Gardens.
Mr. Daniel O'Regan
August 31, 1942 - October 1, 2007
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel “Danny” O’Regan age 65 of Glace Bay. Danny passed on Monday, October 1, 2007.
Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Daniel and Marion (Milley) O’Regan. Danny was an avid fly fisherman and loved drafting. He was a craftsman making solid wood furniture.
He will be sadly missed by his loving sister, Marion Weatherbee, brothers, Robert, Ronald (Charlotte), Terrance (Marilyn), Darrell and Douglas. Danny loved all of his nieces and nephews, but formed a special bond with Robbie.
Besides his parents, Danny was predeceased by his nephew, Robbie.
In honoring Danny’s wishes, cremation will take place. A private family service will be held at a later date under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Donations in Danny’s memory may be made c/o Marion Weatherbee, 112 Shaft Street, Glace Bay, N.S. B1A 1H4.

Mr. Blake Ratchford
November 25, 1957 - October 3, 2007
Blake Ratchford, age 49 of Union Highway, Scotchtown passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday,October 3rd,2007 surrounded by his family.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Joe and Eleanor (Venzon) Ratchford.
Blake was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael's Church in River Ryan. He worked in the sheet metal industry and was a member of Local 56. Blake loved cars; especially his Gold Trans AM he had in the seventies and he also didn't mind racing them. He was also very sports-minded having played in the commercial hockey league as a goaltender as well as playing in many fastball leagues. His favorite was baseball and he excelled in this sport. Blake and his wife Carol shot darts for over 20 years.
A man with a great sense of humour and friendly nature, Blake will always be remembered as a loving and caring son, husband, father, brother and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, the former Carol Selvet,two sons, Matthew (Allison), Dartmouth, Steven at home, his sister Susan, Whitney Pier and two brothers, Kevin (Marlene), Gardiner Mines and Sheldon (Nadine) in New Waterford. Blake is also survived by his nieces, nephews and father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Pauline Selvet.
There will be no visitation. The funeral mass is this Friday, 2 p.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael's Church. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for Blake, donations in his memory may be made to the V.O.N. (New Waterford Chapter), Palliative Care or the Cancer Society, Cape Breton Chapter.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford.
Mr. Albert George Courtney
February 28, 1919 - October 3, 2007
COURTNEY, Albert George, 88, Dartmouth - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Albert "Bert" Courtney, who passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Surviving are his wife of 62 wonderful years, Naomi (Stickland); daughter, Alma (Albert) Symes, Dartmouth; son, Albert Jr. (Judy) Courtney, Truro; grandchildren, Tammy, Tanya, and Danny; great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Spencer, Courtney and Mitchell. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mary (Chapman) Courtney; infant daughter, Leah; brother, Charles, and sisters, Violet, Leah, and Evelyn. Born February 28, 1919, in Recontre West, N.L., he fished in his younger years, sailing at one time on the Bluenose out of Lunenburg. In 1969 he went to work for the Coast Guard (DOT) Dartmouth until his retirement in 1982. Bert enjoyed his retirement, spending time with all of those who loved him. He also enjoyed his time spent with his nephew, David and wife Mildred (Spencer). Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, where funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 6, at 1 p.m., Rev. Canon Carolyn Tomlin officiating. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home. Special thanks to Dr. John Nicholson, the VON, Palliative Care (District 9) QEII Health Sciences Centre and all their friends who gave willingly of their time and quality care to our Bert. FANCY, Dale, 56, Lower Sackville, born in Hantsport. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dale, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He passed away on Friday, October 5, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII. A humble man, Dale never had much to say... he was a doer. Whatever the job... when Dale did it... it didn’t have to be redone. He took pride in his trade and his commitment as a husband and father. Bass fishing and watching hockey were his hobbies and the crib board was never far away. Dale worked at Chase Masonry for 30 years and currently was working for Duron. He is survived by his wife, Thresa (MacDonald); his son, Wayne; his daughters, Diane (Scott), Maryanne (Terry), and Amanda (Bernie); his grandchildren, Tiffany, Jessica, Ryan, Scott, Brittany, Derrick, Dillon, Noah and Christopher; his sisters, Francis, Judy, Linda, Doreen, Elva and dawn; his brothers, Grant and Glenn. Dale was predeceased by his father, Oscan, and mother, Nina (Leopold). Visitation will be Tuesday, October 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. The service will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, Rev. James Haughn officiating. There will be a reception in the funeral home following the service and interment will be in Fernwood Cemetery, 1800 Sackville Drive., following the reception.
