MALLOY, Carrie B., 66, Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer on October 10, 2007, in the VG Site QEII Palliative Care Unit. Born in Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Ivy (Moulton) Collins. She was a very loving mom, sister, grandmother and aunt. Carrie had a big heart and always put others before herself. She touched many lives with her kindness and generosity, all who knew her loved her very much. She will be remembered with love by her children, Lynn (Chris), Lower Sackville; Marshall (Kelly), Beaver Bank; Jason (Crystal), Lower Sackville; Scott (Natasja), Sackville; former husband and loving father of her children, Don; loving nanny to SherryLynn, Hunter, Jacob and Evan; sisters, Marilyn (David) Storey, Wendy (Wallace) Churchill, Myrtle Kelly; brothers, Tom (Linda), Wayne (Carol), Cecil (Christina); sister-in-law, Carroll; father and mother-in-law, Marshall and Bea Malloy. She was predeceased by brother, Henry Jr. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Knox United Church, Rev. Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Mrs. Isabel ("Belle") Charlotte Barkhouse

BARKHOUSE (Langille), Isabel Charlotte "Belle", 78, Lantz. It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of "Belle" on October 9, 2007, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Isabel was born on March 13, 1929, in Wine Harbour, Guysborough Co., and was the daughter of the late Lester and Lottie (Benight) Langille. In her youthful years Belle worked at Dartmouth Answering Services and Ampitrol. She was a former member of the Dartmouth Policettes, Dartmouth Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Twilight bowling league for many years along with the Dartmouth Curling Club. Belle married Clarence Percy "Bob" Barkhouse on August 18, 1948 and lived in Dartmouth for most of her life. She later moved to the Lantz area in 1990. Belle was a dedicated loving wife, mother and nanny. She loved family get-togethers especially Thanksgiving and always had a smile and a twinkle in her eye. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Belle is survived by her husband, Percy Clarence "Bob", Lantz; daughter, Shelley (Phil) Jones, Grand Lake; grandchildren, Danin Colley, Tyler, Brian and Melissa Jones, Grand Lake; sister, Sadie McBeth, Brandon, Man.; nieces, Linda, Joan and JoAnn. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, October 12, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth where memorial service will take place Saturday, October 13, at 10 a.m., Rev. Arthur Snow officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Family burial will follow in Mount Herman Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Mr. Tom Edward Hubley
July 9, 1945 - October 10, 2007
HUBLEY, Tom E., 62 - It is with great sadness that the family announces his passing on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Aubrey and Dorothy (Brooks) Hubley. Tom has had several accomplishments over his life, from working at J. Albert Walker Ambulance Service and being Fire Chief with Musquodoboit Volunteer Fire Department (92-93/96-2000) being a couple of his most memorable. His success with carpentry and electrical later allowed him to create TH Renovations. CME was a long standing customer of TH Renovations, which then became Tom's most recent employer, where he became divisional manager. His passions were hunting, fishing, debating and spending weekends at his cottage. Tom touched the hearts of many people and passed on great wisdom. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A wonderful and caring husband and father, he is survived by the love of his life, Hermaine Hubley; daughter, Donna; son, Tommy (Susan); stepson, Kenny (Sandy); stepdaughter, Kelly (Mark); sisters, Ann (Jim) Theriault, Paulette (Lou), Edith, Sharon (John) Simpson; seven grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by nephew, Cody Simpson; mother-in-law, Laura Vincent. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Mr. Thomas Graham Devenney

DEVENNEY, Thomas Graham, 79, Northwood Centre, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007. Born in Winnipeg, Man., he was the son of the late Thomas and Ella (Graham) Devenney. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a member of the Canadian Navy for 20 years. After retiring, he was employed with DND for 25 years. Tom was always a quiet man who loved gardening, fishing and woodworking. He was a member of the Musquodoboit Harbour Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years. He enjoyed calling bingo for 30 years for the Eastern Shore Community Centre. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne "Gert" Surette; son, David (Maggie); daughters, Gail (Robert) Crawford and Corrina (Gordon) Dick; granddaughters, Sarah (Mike) Innes, Kristin and Julia; great-grandchildren, Norah and Lachlan. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Memorial service 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. BROOKER, Michael Kenneth William - Born in the IWK Health Centre in Halifax on February 11, 1988, died suddenly on October 11, 2007, in Halifax, due to a cycling accident. Michael is survived by his mother, Tammy Deluney; stepfather, Kenneth Denney; sister, Laurie-Ann; nieces, Natalia and Jordyn; nephew, Samuel; younger sister, Alicia; brothers, J.C. and Kyle; paternal grandmother, Bertha "Toot" Denney, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Michael is now resting in heaven alongside his Nanny (Carol), Poppy (Pat) and cousin, B.J. Love and many thanks to all the staff and nurses at the IWK, Dr. Phillip Davis, Martin Whitzman, foster parents, Bob and Sheila Perlman and all the staff at Children Community Services, Phoenix Shelter, Metro Turning Point, The Salvation Army, Options and Social Services, who worked to give Michael a chance at life. We would also like to thank all his friends who looked out for and cared for him while he was experiencing his street life and also Amanda, a close and dear friend who he talked about all the time. A very special thank you goes out to Scott Baltjes, the gentleman who sat and held Michael until help arrived. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, from where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Berend Willem Sr. Kamperman

KAMPERMAN, Berend Willem Sr., 90, Grand Lake. Our dad passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rotterdam on July 20, 1917, he was the last surviving sibling of nine children of Frederick and Lena (Romijn) Kamperman. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Regina (Chvainauskaite); daughter, Irene Elzinga; sons, John (Paulette), Barend, Robert (Glenna), Paul (Vicki), Frederick (Jozef); grandchildren, Greg, Jeff (Zeljke), Duane (Carolyn), Stephanie (Chris), Ian, Lisa (Dave), Stephen (Janet), Ryan, Tracie (Kristen), Melissa (Avard), Sharon (Scott); great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Savanna, Cassidy, Zachary, Madeline, and Alexander. Our father led a very rich life. He served on the Rotterdam Police Narcotic squad and was also a prize winning sharp shooter. During the German occupation of Holland, 1939-45, he worked as a paramedic in Berlin. In 1944, he married Regina and at the end of the war he walked with his pregnant wife from Berlin to Holland. After the war he followed in his father's footsteps by working on a seagoing crane ship and became skipper. He also worked on the "Hydrofoil". In 1957 he and his family immigrated to Canada, landing at Pier 21 in Halifax and settling in Grand Lake. He worked for 25 years for Colonel and Mrs. Violet Laurie. As a founding member of the Grand Lake - Oakfield Fire Department, he was the first member to receive a 20-year medal for exemplary service for loyalty as a volunteer, an award he was very proud of and which honoured his commitment to his community. He was a devoted member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church and the Grand Lake - Oakfield Community Society. Dad was a quiet man who always led by example. He was an avid gardener, a do-it-yourself handyman. He loved his sports, which included baseball, hockey and swimming. A devoted husband and a loving father to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he will be sadly missed by all. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Oakfield on Monday, October 15, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the Grand Lake - Oakfield Fire Hall, Rev. Marian Conrad officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or St. Margaret's Anglican Church.
Mrs. Elmira Elizabeth Hill
August 24, 1924 - October 11, 2007
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elmira Hill age 83 of Nolan’s Lane, Glace Bay. Elmira passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Merigomish, N.S. she was the daughter of the late Eddie and Ethel (Holmes) MacDonald. Elmira was a former member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. She also was a former member of the True Blue Lodge, LOBA.
She will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Mary Hill, Diane (Francis) O’Reilly – both of Glace Bay, sons, Albert (Kathy), Sydney, Eddie (Thelma), Robert (Hazel), Lloyd (Fran) – all of Glace Bay, Ralph, New Waterford, several half brothers & sisters, 8 cherished grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Frances MacDonald, New Glasgow. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, brother, Allie MacDonald.
Visitation for Mrs. Hill will be held Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. Donations in Elmira’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association.
