Mr. Thomas Francis Ford
January 23, 1916 - October 31, 2007
Thomas “Tom” passed away in the Windsor Elms, Windsor, N.S. in the Alzheimer’s unit, at age 91, October 31, 2007 surrounded by the love of his life, Teresa and family and devoted staff at the Windsor Elm’s. Tom was born in Glace Bay in l916 to the late James and Catherine (Walsh) Ford. He was a renowned piano player having played with ‘Malcie Lynk Band” in his early years and for many family functions and gatherings. He and his wife celebrated 65 years of marriage (2006) and were very proud of their ten children. He and Teresa made their home in Glace Bay up until his illness and move in 2005.
Tom worked over 43 years in the Glace Bay mines (1B, 20, 26) starting as a general miner and working his way up to Mine Deputy. He was an active member of CBRT and GW union and served as recording secretary. He was ‘a mining guide’ at the Miner’s Museum in Glace Bay for several years following retirement. He was an active member of St. Anne’s Church for over 75 years and served as President of Parish Council and worked many hours with the Men’s Club to run St. Anne’s Camp. He was a ‘Third Degree”- life member of KOC council l953. Past member of the Glace Bay Pensioner’s Club; and he and his wife enjoyed skating at the Glace Bay Forum and dancing. He had a great love of music and books. Due to lack of beds in Cape Breton, Tom was moved to the Grandview Manor in Berwick (2005) and then transferred to the Windsor Elms (2006) to be near family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa (Currie) now of Windsor, NS. Sons : Robert (Jill) Falmouth, NS; James (Bonnie) Kingston, Ontario; Richard (Sylvia) Lethbridge, Alberta; Kevin (Connie) Charlottetown, PEI; Brendon (Dianne) Hammonds Plains, NS. Daughters: Dolena (Keith AuCoin), Windsor, NS; Karen (Hopkins) Saint John, NB; Mary Lou (Louis d’Entremont) Pubnico, NS. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grand children, sister-in-law, Bessie Currie, brothers-in-law, Ronnie and Ally Currie. Many special nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John (Anne Harrietha) and Patrick (Edna Raferty) and sisters Marie (Alf MacPherson) and Jeannie (Alex White) and wonderful in-laws, Joe and Catherine Currie, two sons, Gregory Joseph and John Glenn. Many in-laws and nieces and nephews. Tom was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Visitation will be in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass for Mr. Ford will be celebrated in St. Anne’s Church at 10 am. Monday, November 5th, 2007 with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. James Henry "Hank" HOUSTON
April 9, 1934 - October 21, 2007
James Henry “Hank” Houston, age 73, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, October 21st, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Born on April 9th, 1934, in Truro, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Alexander and Annie (McAloney) Houston.
Hank moved at the age of 8, to South Porcupine, Ontario, where he spent his youth. He joined the RCN and served on the HMCS Micmac and at the Newport Naval Radio Station, Newport Corner. On April 9, 1961, he started working for the Sobeys Group and retired on April 9, 1999, from TRA/Sobeys, after 38 years. Hank was a member of the Windsor United Church, the Men's Club and a former member of the Windsor Fire Department.
Hank is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Eleanor Dorman, whom he married on April 7, 1955. Surviving also are daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" and Vivian "Vee", of Windsor. His chosen family Helen and Dewar Lindsay; granddaughter, Margaret "Maggie" Sangster and husband Paul, and their children, Anthony, Mark and Lindsay; granddaughter Amy Elizabeth Lindsay; grandson, Rob Lindsay and wife Melanie, and their children, Kathleen, Steven & Ryleigh. He is also survived by maternal aunts, Sally (Earle) Jackson and Vivian McAloney; sister-in-law, Isobel (Bill) Houston; special sister-in-law, Katherine Dorman and her family; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Guy LeRoy; his twin, William Arthur; sister, Ann Small and her husband, Matthew; also brother-in-law, and best friend, Dale Dorman.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 23rd, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 24th, 2007, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Interment in the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.

Mr. Robert Edwin Garet Finch
May 16, 1920 - November 2, 2007
FINCH, Robert Edwin Garrett "Garry" - 87, Halifax, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Montreal, Que., he was a son of the late Edwin and Annie (Savage) Finch. Garry was a brother to Judith (Berrouane), Montreal, and was predeceased by his younger brother, Brian. He will be missed by his loving wife, Noreen; son, Kevin, Halifax; his eight nieces and nephews and their families, and his friends. After high school, Garry worked at Consolidated Bathurst in mill towns and the Montréal head office for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1983. He served in the 14th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, during the Second World War, seeing action in North Africa and western Europe. After cremation, Garry will be interred in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. Mr. Cecil W. Nickerson
April 1, 1933 - October 30, 2007
NICKERSON, Cecil W. "Nick" - Middle Sackville, passed away October 30, 2007, at home. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Austin and Harriett Nickerson. Nick served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1952-1956, fondly remembering sea duty on Cruiser HMCS Quebec. Furthering his education with Canadian Vocational Training, he joined the staff at the Nova Scotia Technical College "Dal Tech", retiring in 1991 after 35 years, mostly as machine shop supervisor. Nick liked to be involved in his community and was a founding member and Past President of Springfield Lake Recreation Centre, Past President of Bedford Branch 95, Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of the Sackville Lions Club. Nick enjoyed sports, organizing, coaching, playing ball and badminton in his younger years, playing golf with friends, and darts at the Legion. His favourite spectator sport was being at his grandsons hockey games. He is survived by his son, Blair (Sue), Middle Sackville; grandsons, Ryan and Alex; sisters, Laura, Stellarton; Stella, New Glasgow, and his friend, Rita Crouse. He was predeceased by his wife, Doreen (Brown); sisters, Mae, Florence, Ethel, and brothers, Percy, William and Harold. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday in Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, Lower Sackville. Private family burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Reception to follow in the Bedford Legion. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Mrs. Ferne L. Humphreys
July 21, 1937 - November 4, 2007
HUMPHREYS, Ferne L., 70, Porters Lake, passed away November 4, 2007, in St. Vincent's Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Hunter) Totten. Ferne had been a member of The Salvation Army for several years and enjoyed knitting and gardening. She is survived by her husband, Arthur W. "Donnie" Humphreys; daughter, Kathleen (Jim) Lavery, Yarmouth; son, Kenneth Humphreys, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by brother, Dawson Totten. Cremation has taken place. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens at a later date. Donations in Ferne's name may be made to The Salvation Army or any Girl Guide related charity.
Mrs. Ellen Cameron (MacDougall)
November 10, 1910 - November 1, 2007
CAMERON (MacDougall), Ellen - The death of Mrs. Ellen Cameron, wife of the late Murdock J. Cameron of Halifax, occurred on Thursday, November 1, 2007, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 96. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Laurie and Mabel (Lawson) MacDougall. Ellen attended Nova Scotia Normal College, and in 1932 received the Governor General's medal for her high scholastic achievement. She began teaching in 1933 at the age of 23 in Wallace Bay South. Her teaching career spanned 40 years, touching many lives in the process. She held teaching positions in Truro at Willow Street School and in Halifax at St. Patrick's Boys School. She was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church in Halifax. Ellen in survived by her sister, Mary MacDougall, Truro; nephews, John MacDougall, Miramachi, N.B.; Paul MacDougall, Calgary, Alta.; Barry Rawlinson, Albrighton, England; numerous grandnieces and nephews. She is also survived by Armand Bedard (the loving son she never had) and special friend, Garland Hackett. Ellen was predeceased by brother, Adams MacDougall (Miramachi, N.B.), and sister, Hazel Rawlinson (Albrighton, England). No visitation by request, a funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, November 8, in St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Bayers Road, Halifax. Interment will be Thursday, November 8, at 3:30 p.m. in St. Ninian's Parish Cemetery, Antigonish. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
