Mr. Ronald Sidney Norman "Ron" Amey
December 9, 1934 - November 4, 2007
AMEY, Ronald Sidney Norman "Ron" - Died peacefully in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, on Sunday, November 4, 2007. Ron was the beloved husband to wife Dorothy (Hamilton) and loving father to daughter, Regan. Ron leaves behind grandson, Rohen, and stepsons, Dale and Gary Evans. He was born in Cosham, Portsmouth, England, on December 9, 1934, and came to Nova Scotia around 1965 as a representative with the British Navy, supplying uniforms to Canadian naval personnel. He spent most of his career in sales, representing food services, real estate, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, and finally in advertising. Always priding himself in his dress, he found his dream job with Moore's Clothing for Men. Ron was also well-known for his love of the theatre, playing many leading roles in musicals at Th'Yarc in Yarmouth, and at a large number of talent and variety shows within the International Town Crying Fraternity. Ron was diagnosed with dementia in October 2005. He became a resident at Shoreham Village Nursing Home in Chester from February until July 2007 when he was transferred to Melville Lodge in Halifax. Heartfelt appreciation is extended to all the wonderful staff that cared for Ron at these facilities. Being one of the first to give rebirth to the authentic tradition of town crying in North America in the last century, Ron was probably best-known as the fun loving, outgoing town crier, first for the Town of Yarmouth, and in recent years for the Village of Waverley, traveling the world as their Good Will Ambassador. He loved to sing and play his harmonica, and his sense of fun and good humour will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 8, in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia.
