Katherine MacLean, RN
70, Glace Bay
Katherine MacLean, RN, 70, of Seaview Manor, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Mary B. (MacAulay) MacLean. Katherine was a member of Knox United Church, Glace Bay. She was a graduate of the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, in 1951.
Katherine is survived by two sisters, Neila (Harold ) Johnston, Glace Bay, Audrey (Jim) Luff, Ottawa, and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by one brother, Lauchlin.
There will be no visitation. Her body has been donated to medical science. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 6, 2000, at 2 p.m. in Knox United Church, Glace Bay, with the Rev. David MacLean officiating.
Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton, the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, or a charity of choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
Jordan Rudolph Wentzell
64, Lunenburg
Jordan Randolph Wentzell, 64, of Pleasant River, Lunenburg Co., died August 2, 2000, at home
Born in Liverpool, he was a son of Jordan S. Wentzell of Queens Manor, Liverpool, and the late Jean (Jollimore) Wentzell.
He was manager of Canadian Tire Store in Liverpool for 17 years. In 1970 he graduated the Ranger School and worked with Parks Canada from 1971 until 1997. He was a member of Scouts Canada for over 10 years and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Canadian Wildlife Association. He was past president of the Pleasant River Community Hall and was very active in his community until his illness. He passed his love of the great outdoors and nature to all his children and many others. Jordan will be sadly missed by his devoted wife and family and his many friends and colleagues.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years the former Mary Anne Dalby; two daughters, Deborah Ingraham and husband Jack of Baddeck, Joan Ross and husband Frank of Strathmore, Alta.; three sons, Randy and wife Nancy of Bridgewater, Tim and wife Christine of Dartmouth, Michael at home, eight grandchildren, Mathew Ingraham, Geoffrey Ingraham, Justin Wentzell, Sarah Wentzell, Shaun Ross, Kelly Ross, Jeremy Wentzell, Jillian Wentzell; a brother Kenneth of Lake Echo.
He was predeceased by a sister Joan in infancy.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers Funeral Home in Liverpool. Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Pleasant River Trinity United Church in Pleasant River, Rev. Natalie Buchanan officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Pleasant River Trinity United Church or to the Pleasant River Community Hall.
Sheldon (Cha) Fitzgerald
58, Glace Bay
Sheldon (Cha) Fitzgerald, 58 of 20 Brookside St., Glace Bay, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Tom and Gertie (MacNeil) Fitzgerald. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish and enjoyed bowling and walking.
Survived by brothers, Tom (Irene), New Brunswick, Paul (Patricia), Ontario, Kenny, Glace Bay; sisters, Mora MacIsaac, Cecilia Fitzgerald and Hughena (Elmer) White, all of Glace Bay.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be planned for next week. Time and date to be published in a future issue. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Mary Theresa (Mary Nellie) MacDonald
71, New Waterford
Mary Theresa MacDonald (Mary Neilie), 71, 579 St. Joseph St., New Waterford, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Colin and Sarah “Sadie” (MacNeil) MacDonald. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish and at one time, was an active member of the Altar Society. She was president of the Ladies Progressive Conservative Association, chairperson of the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital Board, served on the Health Services Commission, N.S.A.H.O. She was very involved with hospitality of the New Waterford Coal Bowl and worked with Dr. Joseph A. Roach of New Waterford for five years. Mary touched the hearts of everyone who knew her; always a smile and a kind word.
Surviving are her husband, Neil Joseph MacDonald; three daughters, Valerie (Barrie) Campbell, Dominion, Robin (Jack) Murphy, Eastern Passage; Bernadette (Robert) Drinovz, Sydney; two sons, Terry (Kathy), Dartmouth; Adam (Joan), New Waterford; four brothers, Dan “Frecks” MacDonald, Dominion, Colin “Frankie” (Marie), Reserve, John “Pinky”, Dominion, Joe MacDonald (Betty), Antigonish; two sisters, Johnena MacDonald and Mary Margaret “Maggie” MacDonald, both of Dominion; eight grandchildren, Scott, Kelley, Christa, Liam, Marilou, Richard, Daniel, Mathew; special cousin, Margie Doucette, and friend, Susan MacDonald.
She was predeceased by two sons in infancy, Richard and Stephen; one daughter at birth; brother Charles and sister Anne.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Saturday, 7-9 p.m., and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Monday, 11 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church, Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association or Mount Carmel Parish.
Rhoda Mae Aucoin
71, Sydney
Rhoda Mae Aucoin, 71, of Sydney, passed away, at home on Saturday, August 5, 2000.
Born in St. Ann’s, Rhoda was the daughter of the late Fraser and Christy Anne (MacDonald) MacLean. Rhoda was a homemaker.
Rhoda is Survived by two daughters, Madonna Ferguson and Helena (Holy) Marie Sheppard (spouse Robert MacKinnon), both of Sydney; two sons, Leonard (Lenny) Bruce (spouse Johanne Harron), Ontario, and Joseph, Sydney; two brothers, Duncan and Kenny MacLean, both of Sydney; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Rhoda was predeceased by her husband, Leonard (Stump) Thomas, two sisters Katherine and Dora, and a son Christopher.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, Aug. 7, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday 11 a.m. with John MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
John Norman Beaver
80, Mira
John Norman Beaver of 220 Brickyard Road, Mira, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Louisbourg, Aug. 20, 1919, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Wilson) Beaver. He was a member of First United Church and a member of the Canadian Legion Branch 62, Louisbourg.
During the Second World War, John served his country as a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders serving the United Kingdom, Italy, and North West Europe. He was employed for 46 years in the coal industry at International Piers, Sydney, retiring August 1, 1984.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Hughie, Thomas, Donald, Melvin, Duncan, and sister Catherine Harris, also infant brother Everett. He was also predeceased by his first wife Effie Anne Maclntyre and infant daughter Effie Anne.
He is survived by their children Duncan (Janette), Charlene (Ronald) Anderson, and Darryl (Geraldine). He is also survived by daughter, Lynette (Hutt), Jason Carter, several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. By brother Everest (Greta) and sisters Haroldine MacKay, and Myrtle (Leonard) King.
At Johnny’s request there will be no visitation. A private family interment at Loch End Cemetery, Catalone, on Monday, Aug. 7, will be conducted by Rev. Neil J. MacLean under the direction of Chant’s Funeral Home, Louisbourg.
