Sheldon (Cha) Fitzgerald
58, Glace Bay
Sheldon “Cha” Fitzgerald, 58, of 20 Brookside St., Glace Bay, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Tom and Gertie (MacNeil) Fitzgerald. Cha worked with McKinley Pop Factory in Glace Bay before his employment of twenty years with Cape Breton Beverages. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish and enjoyed bowling and walking.
Survived by brothers, Tom (Irene), New Brunswick, Paul (Patricia), Ontario, Kenny, Glace Bay; sisters, Mora MacIsaac, Cecilia Fitzgerald and Hughena (Elmer) White, all of Glace Bay, and by a number of special nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, with Rev. Hugh MacNeil officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Funeral is under the direction of Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
Dorothy Catherine (Girlie) Glasgow
Halifax
Dorothy Catherine (Girlie) Glasgow, lately of Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse, died courageously after a lengthy illness surrounded by her family on August 4, 2000, at the Q.E.II, Halifax Infirmary Site.
Born in North Sydney on Dec. 19, 1922, she was the daughter of Emil and Margaret (MacNeil) Arac, who later homesteaded in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Dorothy was raised in North Sydney by a loving aunt and uncle, and graduated from St. Martha’s School of Nursing, Antigonish, on Sept. 4, 1944. She worked as a nurse in Antigonish, later at St. Rita’s Hospital in Sydney, and did private duty nursing as well. She devoted her life to the emotional and religious nurturing of her children and grandchildren, who will never forget the abundance of love she had to offer. On her return to Nova Scotia in 1977, after a brief stay in Ottawa, Dorothy worked from her home for the Private Duty Nurses Registry.
Dorothy is survived by Frank Glasgow, Middle River; daughters, Moira Legere, Dartmouth, Laurie (Stephen) Flindall, Wellington, Theresa, Bedford; sons, Daniel Sydney, Ian (Carol Hollet), Shubenacadie, Greg (Colleen), Truro, Michael (Debbie), Tatamagouche; grandchildren, Adam, Jonathon, Ian Robert, Tim, Carmen, Nik, Kris, Neala, James, Laurie, Stewart, Margaret, Michael, Aaron, Jason, Scott, Joanne, Alexander, Kathleen and Elizabeth. Brother, Daniel (Dot), Grande Prairie; sisters, Mary Arac, Halifax, Sr. Theresa Arac, Pakistan, Kay (John) Doucet, Middleton.
She was predeceased by Sara (Sadie) Busher and Dan MacNeil, childhood care givers, brothers, Bertie, Mickey, a sister, Doreen and an infant son Hugh Reginald.
No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service wild be held Thursday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m., Mount St. Vincent Motherhouse Chapel, Halifax, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would appreciate prayers to support the tireless staff of the Q.E.II Dialysis Unit and for the resources they need to care for their patients. Internment will be at a later date . Arrangements have been entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St.
Margaret Ferguson Kohut
55, Dover, New Hampshire
Margaret Ferguson Kohut, 55, of 166A Henry Law Avenue, died on Friday, August 4, 2000, after an 11 year illness with Breast Cancer.
Born September 18, 1944, in Rumford, Maine, she was the daughter of Norman Kenneth and Hazel (Merrill) Ferguson, Sr.
She attended Public Schools in Hanover and Rumford, graduated from Gould Academy in 1962 and the University of Maine in Orono (BA) in 1967. While a student at the University of Maine she was a proud participant in the Powder Puff Derby. Mrs. Kohut was a social worker for more than 20 years in both Connecticut and New Hampshire. She was a trustee of the Wentworth Home, an active member of First Parish Church and the Strafford County Republican Party. Mrs. Kohut was also a member of the Wentworth Douglass Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group and a member of Al-Anon.
She was married in New Haven Conn., January 20, 1968. She will be lovingly remembered by survivors including her husband of 32 years, William T. Kohut, Sr. of Dover; a son William T. Kohut, Jr. and his wife, Christine, of New Providence, N.J.; a daughter, Rebecca (Kohut) Sherburne and her husband, Fred Sherburne of Dover; a brother, Norman K. Ferguson, Jr. of Hanover, Maine; two sisters, Elizabeth (Ferguson) Mottla of Westboro, MA., and Nancy (Ferguson) Linaweaver of Woodstock, VA.; four grandchildren, Kendra Lee Sherburne, John Taylor Sherburne, Alexandra Morrison Kohut, and Katherine Ferguson Kohut.
Friends and relatives may call on today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, N.H.
Funeral services will be officiated by Reverend David L. Slater, Pastor, on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. at First Parish Church, Dover.

Loretta Myers
72, Sydney
On Monday, August 7, 2000, Loretta Myers, 72, of Grand Lake Road, Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late John Angus and Mary Jessie (MacDonald) MacNeil.
Loretta was the former owner of the Ferry Street Convenience Store.
Surviving are her sisters, Kaye Cameron and Peggy (Bill) Fewer, Sydney; brothers, Steve (Amelia), Dartmouth, John Dan (Cappy), Vancouver, British Columbia, and Bernie (Cecilia), Edmonton, Alberta, and several nieces and nephews.
Loretta was predeceased by her husband, Roy, in 1985, a sister, Mary Murphy, and brothers, Ambrose and Albert.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will he held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Helen Roberts
96, Glace Bay
Helen Roberts, 86, guest of the Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, and former resident of 101 Ocean Ave., Glace Bay, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at the Victoria Haven Nursing Home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daugher of the late Thomas and Anne (Greenhill) Baxter. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Knox United Church, Glace Bay, and in her earlier years was very active in church affairs.
She is survived by two daughters, Wilma (Mrs. Henry Ogilvie), Glace Bay, and Linda (Mrs. John Shepard), Fredericton, N.B. and one son Jim (Eleanor), Owen Sound, Ont., two grandchildren, Brenda and Tracey, also two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Roberts was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, a son Cst. John Thomas Roberts (RCMP), and one son Norman Thomas in infancy. Also predeceased by three sisters, Margaret “Peggy”, Catherine “Katie” MacDougall and Annie Hulford.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with Rev. David MacLean officiating. Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and relatives 2 p.m. in the funeral home, prior to the funeral servcie.
Family flowers only, by request of the family. Any memorials in Helen’s memory may be made to Knox United Church, the Victoria Haven Fund for the wheelchair access, the Alzheimer Society, or charity of choice.
Holly Dawn (MacDougall) Simm

Holly Dawn Simm, 41, of 29 Victoria Dr., Sydney Mines, died suddenly at home, Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000.
Born in Sydney Mines, Holly was the daughter of the late Bernie and Blanche (Hurley) MacDougall of Halfway Road, Sydney Mines.
Holly was presently employed by Atlantic Electronics of North Sydney and previously at the Inverary Inn in Baddeck.
Holly is survived by her loving husband Robbie Simm; her special furry buddy Jake; also survived by five sisters, Joyce (Wayne) Walker, Amherst, Diane (Gary) Phillipo, North Sydney, Roxanne (Greg) Benfer, St. Charles, Missouri, Judy MacDougall, North Sydney, Valerie (Fraser) Patterson, Ross Ferry; four brothers, Bernie, North Sydney, Harold (Jan), Fredericton, Russell (Debbie), Leitches Creek, Paul (Valerie), Sydney Mines. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Louise Simm, and most recently by her brother Brian of Frenchvale.
Visitation will take place 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society
