Francis B. O’Regan (Ba Ba)

It saddens us beyond words to tell you that our special brother went to his heavenly rest, on Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Breton Bay Home for special care.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Monica (Bresson) O’Regan.
Ba touched a lot of hearts with his gentle manner and lovable nature. He enjoyed music especially his harmonica and his Tellie books.
Ba will be deeply missed by brothers, Joseph (Maureen), Dominion, Artie (Clare), Glace Bay, Johnnie (Shiela), Grand Prairie, Fred (Isabel), Boston, Terrance (Joan), Reserve, Brian (Mary), Glace Bay, Kenny (Frances), Glace Bay; sisters, Colleen (Edward) Anderson, Dominion, Maureen (Forbes) Harding, Glace Bay, Mary (Darryl) MacMullin, Glace Bay, Paulette (Wayne) Lynk, Dominion, with whom he resided.
He will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Mass of Resurrection will be Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Downs Syndrome Society or a charity of choice.
Anne Prendergast
76, Coxheath
Anne Predergast, 76, of Coxheath Road, Sydney, passed away Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Ling) MacNeil of Glace Bay.
Anne was a member of Our Lady of Fatima CWL and also worked in California with Motion Picture Hospital as a respiratory therapist.
Anne is survived by her husband, Blaise; daughter, Colleen (Ron) Pogue and grandson, James Ingenluyff, Concord, Calif.; son Robert (Jean) Prendergast, Long Beach, Calif.; sisters, Elizabeth and Dolerita (Dot), a brother, Joseph (Mary) MacNeil, all of Glace Bay.
Besides her parents, Anne is predeceased by her sister, Calista Jones, brothers, William and Roddy.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Prendergast will be today (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. on the main level of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be Thursday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney, with Fr. Reg Currie officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Laura Blanchard

Mrs. Laura Blanchard of Prince Street, Sydney, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Duncan and Veronica (Bennett) Young.
She was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney.
She is survived by seven daughters, Frances (Dan) Ginty, New Haven, Conn., Marie (Glen) Bigney, Ottawa, Marguret (Donné) Frison, Marion Bridge, Rose (Todd) Richardson, Deer Lake, Nfld., Brenda (Peter) Chuppa, Sydney, Patricia (Shaun) Lewis), Sydney River, Roberta Blanchard, Sydney; son, Hal (Brita) Blanchard, Mira; sisters, Amy Turrett, Clem Marche, Cecilia Lainey, Mag Cormier, Loretta Seaward; brothers, James and Dennis; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Blanchard, two children in infancy, grandchildren, Tracie Chuppa and Robin Pitts, sisters, Mary Strickland, Alice LeRoy, Eunice Abbott, brothers, Johnnie Young, Walter Young and Arthur Young.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel are incomplete and will be announced Thursday.

Mary (MacIsaac) Layes
88, Natick, Mass.
Mary (MacIsaac) Layes, 88, a resident of Natick, Mass., formerly of 20 Dodd St., Bridgeport, died Wednesday July 5, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Waltham, Mass.
Born in St. Andrews, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Angus and Mary (McInnis) MacIsaac.
She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine O’Neil, Natick, Mass., Lorraine Driver, Waltham, Mass.; one son Francis, Chelmsford, Mass.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis, four brothers, Jack, Neil, Angus and Daniel and three sisters, Agnes Campbell, Elizabeth McMahon and Catherine McIntyre.
Sister Mary Florence MacNeil
86, Antigonish
Sister Mary Florence MacNeil, 86, a Sister of St. Martha of Bethany Motherhouse, Antigonish, died at Bethany on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in the 64th year of her religious life.
Born in Iona, N.S., and baptized Mary Ann, she was the daughter of the late Michael K. and Florence (MacKinnon) MacNeil, both of Iona.
Sister Mary Florence entered the Sisters of St. Martha in 1934. In 1939 she obtained registration as a medical technologist from the Ottawa General Hospital.
Sister served in the health field as lab supervisor for most of her religious life beginning at St. Martha’s Hospital from 1938-65, 1967-71, 1972-82, and at St. Rita Hospital from 1965-67. In 1988 after studies, she entered the pastoral care field and served at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home until 1991, and at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, on a part-time basis, from 1991-96.
In 1965, Sister Mary Florence received the Canadian Society Laboratory Technologists Citation.
Sister was community lead for a total of nine years on two of her missions. She retired to Bethany in 1996.
She is predeceased by one sister, Margaret, and three brothers, Andrew, James and Kenneth.
The remains are resting at Bethany where a Bible Vigil will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Services Ltd.
Loretto MacSween
Glace Bay/Dominion
Loretto MacSween of 371 King Edward St., Glace Bay, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at her home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Bohan) MacSween.
Her working life was spent as a registered dental technician, retiring in 1997. Her greatest pleasure was enjoying time with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by five brothers, Gerry (Wilma), New Waterford, Lionel (Margie), Glace Bay, Bart (Eva), Fredericton, N.B., Mike (Myrna) and Leo (Cheryl), both of Glace Bay; two sisters, Helen (Sonny) Mercer, Glace Bay, and Muriel (Ron) Healey, London, Ont.; brother-in-law, Lloyd Parsons, Blacketts Lake. She is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews and by five grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by twin brother and sister in infancy and sister, Anna Parsons.
At her request there will be no visitation. Family members will meet friends in the foyer of St. Anne’s Church, Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until Mass of Resurrection celebrated 11 a.m. with Rev. P. Clifford Bisson officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
