Felix Bernard Campbell
92, L'Ardoise
Felix Bernard Campbell, 92, died July 4, 2000, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, after a brief illness.
Born in L’Ardoise, he was the son of the late Martin and Justina (Boucher) Campbell.
He worked for many years in the Halifax area and retired after 33 years service with Nova Scotia Light and Power in 1972. On retiring, he moved back to the family home in L’Ardoise with his first wife Mary (James) who predeceased him.
He was also predeceased by his second wife Agnes (Mombourquette) Deveau, an infant son of his first marriage, Joseph, sisters, Cecelia, Bertha, Minnie and Dora and by brothers, Lawrence, Henry, Cornelius, Leonard and James.
Surviving to miss him are sister Theresa Myatt, Florida, daughter, Ruth, Sackville, sons, John and Joseph, in Ontario, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation Wednesday 7-9 p.m., Thursday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the L’Ardoise Funeral Home. Funeral mass 2 p.m. Friday, Holy Guardian Angel Church, L’Ardoise, with Rev. Gregory Sampson officiating.
Donations in his memory to Activity Department Richmond Villa.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s.
Daniel Patrick Gallant
79, Reserve Mines
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, July 8, 2000, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, for Daniel, a resident of 22 Belgium St., Reserve Mines.
He passed away suddenly June 29, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Burial of cremated remains will take place in the parish cemetery, Fr. Francis Cameron officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
As an expression of sympathy for Daniel, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
Heather M. Hazelhurst
Sydney
Heather M. Hazelhurst of Kings Road, Sydney, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family of friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Joseph (Papa Joe) and Honey (Hines) Hazelhurst.
In her early years, Heather worked selling Fuller Brush for a short time and sold Avon for many years. In her later years, she was a devoted care-giver to her parents. She was a devoted Christian and a member of the United Baptist Church of Sydney. Heather was also devoted to the ministry of Dr. Billy Graham.
Heather loved to entertain in the form of singing and dancing. In her early years, she performed in musical shows and had many encores for her rendition of “Second Hand Rose”. She continued her love of singing and dancing through karoke.
Heather was predeceased by her parents and will be sadly missed and always remembered by her dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Monday, July 10, 2 p.m., Rev. Willis Henderson officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the ministry of Dr. Billy Graham, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of one’s choice.
Fred Mills
84, Donkin
Fred Mills, 84, of 38 Middle St., Donkin, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Donkin he was the son of the late Raymond and Mae (Simmons) Mills.
Fred worked as a coal miner all his life in No. 24 and 26 collieries until he retired in 1972. Fred was a member of St. Lukes United Church, Donkin.
Fred is survived by sons, Raymond (Margie), Massachusetts, Robert (Joyce), Donkin, Jim (Margie), Prince Edward Island; daughters, Pat (Mrs. Henry Forward), Ontario, Ruth (Mrs. Brian Simpkins), Ontario and Gail (Mrs. George White), Donkin; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Mae (Vaters) Mills, brothers, Robert and Edgar, also a granddaughter in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. A private family committal service will take place Monday, July 24, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Chisholm officiating. Burial will be in St. Lukes Cemetery, Donkin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Lukes Cemetery Fund.
Marianne (Gelautz) Pintar
88, Sydney
Marianne (Gelautz) Pintar, 88, Sydney, Cape Breton, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Breton Bay Nursing Home.
A 34-year resident of Nova Scotia, she was born in Kreuth, Austria.
She is survived by sons, Hans (Minerva), Windsor, Ont., Kurt (Geraldine), North Sydney; daughter, Anita ‘Nicky’ Gray, Halifax; grandchildren, Braden, Morgan, Keirsten, Damon and Alanna and great-grandchildren, Brett and Ethan.
Marianne was predeceased by her husband, Bert.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 786 Alexandra St., Sydney, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness or a charity of choice.
Fran Teskey
75, Sydney
Frances Mary Teskey, 75, of 30 Logue Dr., Sydney, and formerly of Sarnia, Ont., passed away Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Froomfield, Ont., she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Maude (Bury) Warwick.
She was a volunteer worker with the Anglican Church in Corunna, Ont., before coming to Cape Breton. She worked for a number of years as executive assistant to the director of the computing centre at the University of Western Ontario, retiring in 1982.
Surviving are a son, Jim, Sydney; three grandchildren, James, Douglas and Crystal and one great-granddaughter, Lara. Also survived by a sister, Mrs. Olive Gordon, Chicago.
She was predeceased by her sister, Lorene and brother, Melville.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Teskey. Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at a later date in Froomfield, Ont.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army Parkdale House, Sydney.
