Janet Marie Lewis
65, Big Pond Center
Janet Marie Lewis, 65, of 7587 Big Pond Center, formerly of Hay Cove, passed away Monday, July 17, 2000, at home.
Born in French Cove, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Julian and Cisly (Arsenault) Fougere.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Big Pond. She was actively involved with the Big Pond Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Benjamin Arthur Lewis; two daughters, Bernadette Marie (Mrs. Doug Dupuis), Big Pond, and Beverly Anne (Remy Charreyron) Lewis, Gatineau, Que.; three sons, Herbert Arthur (Cathy), Ottawa, Donald Alexander (Sabine), Petawawa, and James Roderick, Toronto; two sisters, Genora (Mrs. Jamie MacDonald), Mount Auburn, and Celena (Mrs. John MacDonald), Hay Cove; three brothers, Kenneth (Marilyn) Fougere, Hay Cove, Nicholas (Peggy) Fougere, Petawawa, and Alex (Arabelle) Fougere, Big Pond, and eight grandchildren.
Predeceased by a brother, Maxium and a grandson, Jason.
The late Mrs. Lewis will have visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond, with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Big Pond.

James Marcellus Meagher
87, Mulgrave
James Marcellus Meagher, 87, of Mulgrave, Guysborough County, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at home.
Born in Pirate Harbour, Guysborough County, he was a son of the late Maurice and Clara Ellen (Marr) Meagher.
He was a veteran of the RCAF during the Second World War. He completed two tours of operation with Bomber Command. His second tour was with the 405 Squadron in the Pathfinder Force. He achieved the rank of Flying Officer and was presented with the Distinguished Flying Medal by King George VI.
Upon discharge he was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, followed by a 32-year career with the federal Department of Fisheries.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Mulgrave. He was a well respected member of the community and active in the parish and many other organizations. During his retirement he enjoyed family times, travel, camping and gardening.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Margaret (MacDougall) Meagher; nine children, 21 grandchildren, Joan Elaine Rivers, husband Gary and daughter, Erin, Victoria, B.C.; Jim Meagher, wife Betty and children, Jeffrey and Beth, Denver, Col.; Tom Meagher, wife Marie and daughters, Adelle, Jennifer, Kathleen and Brenna, all of Sydney; Lorraine Hope, husband Peter and sons, Sean and Stephen, South Brookfield, Queens County, Monica Murphy, husband Michael and sons, Ian and Chris, Windsor, Ont.; Gerard Meagher, Ottawa; Jacinta Harvey, husband Dan and sons, John, Andrew and James, Berwick; Maurice, wife Susan and children, Jimmy, Kelly, Katie, Amanda and Stephen, Mulgrave; Lucia MacIsaac, husband, Donnie and children, Donald, Maureen, Clare and Neil, Sydney; brother, Harold Meagher, Pirate Harbour; sister, Theresa MacDonell and husband, Bernard, Halifax.
He was predeceased by his infant son, Harold Joseph, brothers, Edward, Bernard and Tom.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Hughie MacNeil officiating, con-celebrated with Rev. Bernie MacAdam. Burial in the parish cemetery.

John Gordon Vallee
43, Glace Bay
John Gordon Vallee, 43, of 60 Highland St., Glace Bay, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Centre, after a brief illness at home.
Born in St. Catharines Ont., he was the son of the late Edna MacDonald who passed away in 1994.
He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his aunt, Joan Boutilier and husband Sid, Glace Bay; aunts, Meagan McDougall, Coxheath, Helen MacDonald, Glace Bay, Joyce Marsden and husband Clarence, Thorold, Ont., and many cousins.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 21 at 2 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Burial to take place in Forest Haven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay.
Howard James Young
73, Sydney
Howard James Young, 73, Victoria Road, Sydney, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Victoria, he was a son of the late James and Theresa (Tanner) Young.
Howard was a veteran of the Second World War with the Army and Air Force. He was retired from the Rail Finish Mill of Sydney Steel and at one time was employed with Burns Security. Howard was also a member of Holy Redeemer Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Kathleen (Meagher); a son, Howard (Bonnie), Sydney; sisters, Mary Hinks, Toronto, and Eunice Power, Sydney, and a grandson, Stephen J.
Howard was predeceased by his brothers, Gordon, Dougie and William, and a sister, Berenetta Chivari.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held in Holy Redeemer Church, Wednesday 11 a.m., Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
John Bell Clark
78, North Sydney
John Bell Clark, 78, a resident of Center Street, North Sydney, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
The late Mr. Clark is also survived by a sister, Sadie Wong, North Sydney, and was predeceased by a sister, Mary Yorke and a granddaughter, Shirley.

Beloved wife of Ambrose Desbarbieux of Levack. Loving mother of Steven, at home.
Dear daughter of the late Gerard (predeceased) and Helen Ryan, New Waterford, N.S. Dear sister of Mary (Robert Head), London, Marion (Dave Gallant), New Waterford, N.S., Paul (Lucy), Naltham, Mass. and Arthur (Mary), New Waterford. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews.
Loretta was born in Cape Breton, N.S. She married Ambrose in Levack in 1973. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, the CWL and was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 503, Onaping Falls.
Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St. Funeral mass in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Levack, Thursday at 11 a.m.
Interment in the Maplecrest Cemetery, Dowling.
A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 503, Onaping Falls. Friends may call 2-5, 7-9 p.m.
