Mary Belle Ferguson
82, Glace Bay
Mary Belle Ferguson, 82, of 23 Duke St., Glace Bay, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 17, 2000, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Murphy) Peddle.
She was a member of St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, a lifetime member of the Glace Bay Pensioners, an auxiliary member of the Army and Navy Club and a member of the Sergeant’s Mess, Glace Bay and was involved in much volunteer work for many years.
Mary Belle was an avid dart player and loved dancing. She will be remembered by all as a loving and caring mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was kind and caring to everyone she met.
She is survived by four daughters, Josephine ‘Sis’ (Mrs. Paul Comeau), Glenna Gilmet, Catherine ‘Kitty’ (Mrs. Murray Ross), Grace (Mrs. Peter Groom) and three sons, James (wife Lorraine), Kevin and Greg (wife Eileen); a very special grandson, Forbes Harding (wife Maureen). Her special stepbrother, Freddy Dakin and her loving companion, Gerald Fukala; also 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Ferguson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, three sons, Roy, Little Johnny and Eddie, one daughter, Mary, also six children and five grandchildren in infancy.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Ferguson will be held today (Wednesday), 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Anne’s Church with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Devon William Fudge
26, Louisbourg
Devon William Fudge, 26, of Louisbourg, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000, in a tragic motor vehicle accident on Catalone Road.
Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of Tom and Sheila (Skinner) Fudge.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, Louisbourg. He was previously employed in the internship program at the Fortress of Louisbourg, he was also employed as a fisherman in Louisbourg. He was an active member in the community being part of the baseball league as a member of the Clips.
He is survived by his fiancee, Rolanda and daughter, Jahyd. Also by his brother, Barry, Louisbourg, and his nephew, Taylor.
He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Job and Blanche Fudge and his maternal grandparents, William and Alice Skinner.
Visitation will take place today (Wednesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Chant’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Louisbourg. Funeral service will be held Thursday 2 p.m. from St. Bartholomew’s Church, Main Street, Louisbourg, with Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of W.A. Chant’s Funeral Home, Louisbourg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations for Devon’s daughter Jahyd at the Royal Bank, Louisbourg.
Duncan Hugh (Dicko) MacDougall Jr.
67, Sydney
Duncan MacDougall, 67, of 51 Main St., Custom Trailer Park, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Duncan was the son of the late Duncan Hugh and Margaret Elizabeth (Morrison) MacDougall.
He was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney. Duncan was an employee of Canada Packers in Sydney for 28 years and was an avid harness racing fan.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Jessie MacDonald; two daughters, Elizabeth (Liz) (Mrs. Fred Devison), Grand Lake Road, Sydney, Karen (Mrs. Ron Whalen), Fatima Drive, Sydney River; two sons, Hugh James and Duncan Karl, both of Grand Lake Road, Sydney; two brothers, Wilfred (Elizabeth) and Lawrence, both of Sydney; seven grandchildren, Fred and Chris Devison, Lindsay Whalen, Candace, Jessie, James and Alexis MacDougall, one great-granddaughter, Emma Whalen, all of Sydney.
Predeceased by eight sisters, Jessie Martell, Christine Baker, Phemie Gale, Alice Dariou, Agnes Ballah, Rita MacDougall, twins, Mary Durant and Martha Murphy, three brothers, Archibald in infancy, John (Doots) and Joseph.
The late Mr. MacDougall will have visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Theresa’s Church with Fr. A. MacDougall officiating. Cremation to follow with burial at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society or the Epilepsy Society of Nova Scotia.
Thomas (Jones) Marshall
63, Chapel Island
Thomas (Jones) Marshall, 63, of Chapel Island, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Chapel Island, he was the foster son of the late Alexander and Mary Rose (Googoo) Marshall. Natural parents, Mary Julia (Marshall) Christmas and the late Stephen P. Francis.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Barra Head.
He is survived by foster brothers, Valerian (Cecilia) Marshall and Murray (Mary Ann) Marshall, Chapel Island and nephew, Clifford Dennis Nevin and several nieces and nephews; little companion, William (Little Willie) Marshall; six sisters, Jean (Edward) Labobe, Maine, Nancy (John H.) Paul, Membertou, Julie Christmas, Membertou, Catherine Arnessan, Boston, Mass., Caroline, Presque Isle, Me. and Josephine, Eskasoni; 10 brothers, Mike Christmas, Kitimat, B.C., Stephen (Elisabeth) Christmas, Membertou, Tom Christmas, Membertou, John Alexander Christmas, Membertou, Roderick Francis, Eskasoni, Alexander B. (Mary Julia) Francis, Eskasoni, Norman Francis, Eskasoni, Daniel Francis, Eskasoni, David Francis, Eskasoni and Joseph (Dorothy) Francis, Eskasoni.
He was predeceased by foster brothers, Thomas Alexander and Peter Marshall, both of Chapel Island and Bernard and Noel Christmas, both of Membertou, Angus Francis, Chapel Island and Ryan Joseph Francis, Eskasoni; foster sisters, Anita (George) Grindle and Elizabeth Marshall, Rose Marie Francis and Marian Clair Francis, all of Eskasoni; Aunt Susan Basque, Uncle John Marshall and Uncle Noel Marshall, all of Chapel Island.
The late Thomas Jones Marshall will be resting at his family residence after 7 p.m. today (Thursday). Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Barra Head.

Mary Agnes (Mae) MacLeod
83, Baddeck
Mary Agnes (Mae) MacLeod, 83, of Baddeck, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at home.
Born in Breton Cove, Victoria County, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Norman R. and Mary (Matheson) MacLeod.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church in Needham, Mass. Mae was raised in Breton Cove but spent most of her adult life working in Massachusetts until she retired to Baddeck in 1997.
She is survived by one sister, Grace MacLeod, Baddeck; sister-in-law, Grace MacLeod, Breton Cove, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Sadie Matheson, Mary Jane (Tain) MacDonald, Katha Jose, Peggy Keyho, brother, Roderick MacLeod and a sister and brother in infancy.
No visitation by request. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at Calvin Presbyterian Church, French River, Victoria County, with Mrs. Shirley Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Birch Plain.
Donations may be made to the Victoria County Hospice Society.

Delores Madeline MacInnis
68, Sydney
Delores Madeline MacInnis, 68, of 1639 Alexandra St., Prime Brook, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Madeline Fanning.
She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney, as well as a member of the parish CWL.
Surviving are her husband, Cameron; two sons, Stephen (Janet), Grand Mira, and Michael (Mary), Prime Brook; a sister, Ann (Mrs. Lawrence MacInnis), Hillside Mira; five grandchildren, Shawn, Morgan, Melissa, Jillian and Patrick.
She was predeceased by one son, Edward.
The late Mrs. MacInnis will have no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony Daniel Church, Rev. Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
